Great spot for seafood forward Thai food. Came here on a Sunday for lunch with a reservation - they open at 12p so everyone was already waiting outside for doors to open. People were seated quickly with a few walk ins waiting outside but the space is big. We got the wings, coconut crab curry, crab fried rice, and whiting fish summer seasonal item. Everything comes out when it's ready and is shared family style. The wings were crispy and zesty, curry had a good kick to it although a small serving and the crab fried rice was delicious. The fish was also very fresh. Highly recommend this spot!
It's shameful it's taken me so long to eat at Fish Cheeks. Thai is one of my favorite cuisines, and Fish Cheeks is one of those restaurants that reminds you why. I'd be pressed to find better Thai food in Thailand. As the name implies, this menu is seafood centric with a few pork options. We ordered the pork jowls, larb, mussels, crab fried rice, crab glass noodles, crab curry (sorry, we love crab). Larb, so good. Loved the crispy pork and sausage with cabbage wrap. The bbqed mussels had incredible flavor with a tasty curry dipping sauce. Jowl was tender, fatty, with a fresh fish sauce. Crab fried rice, excellent. Crab curry, very tasty. Crab glass noodles, sooooo good - must order! Overall Fish Cheeks is everything and more. I can see why this restaurant has remained so popular since opening years ago. Five stars!
Came here during their dinner service and thought that it was great. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and the space is pretty contemporary with inspiration from the sea and ocean. Although the host was a bit rude, our server, Griffin, was absolutely amazing and the sweetest. Their menu draws inspiration from lots of seafood and has fewer options in comparison to many other Thai spots in the city. We got their crispy rice salad with pork and their coconut crab curry to share. I would say that they do not hold back on their spice here. Plenty of flavors and so fresh. Portions are a bit on the smaller side, and it's definitely a bit on the pricier side. Although it was nice to try and pretty good, I think there are other Thai spots in the city that I prefer.
Came here on a saturday at noon with a reservation for 3, and still needed to wait in line for a little while. However, once we were seated, the staff were very timely and attentive. The restaurant was very bright and colorful with lots of natural lighting, and wasn't too loud. We decided to order the selection for two, selection 1. Despite the name, it was a lot of food even for three of us. Our favorite was definitely the whole steamed fish. The fish was delicately cooked, and I really enjoyed the herbs and lime in the broth. I also really enjoyed the zaab wings, which had great spice and crunch. The crab fried rice paired very well with the sauces too. I found the other two dishes less memorable. The duck curry was a little oily and sweet, and the duck was a bit tough, so that was our least favorite dish.
I remember when Manhattan's Thai food scene was as bad as it's Mexican food scene. But Fish Cheeks was incredible, aside from having to ask for a bowl of rice three times. TONGUE & CHEEK: 5/5. The soft egg white, the sweet lychee, the nutty toasted sesame. Yes. SOM TUM CORN SALAD: 5/5. Sweet, tangy, spicy, crunchy, fresh. This dish made me understand corn. RAAWAENG DUCK CURRY: 5/5. Name a duo more iconic than lemongrass and coconut. I'll wait. The duck was perfectly pink, juicy, and tender. 30 DAY DRY AGED BEEF KRAPOW: 5/5. I could taste the char. Smoky, savory, salty. The fried duck egg on top is obviously not optional. STEAMED BRANZINO: 5/5. When I tell you every. Single. Table. Had this. The fish was silky. The broth was zesty. It fixed problems I didn't know I had. I have high standards and bad memory (which is why I write these reviews), but I will remember the late lunch I had with my besties here forever.
More of a 4.5 than a true 5 but the food was excellent so giving it a 5 here. Spice level is no joke, we had runny noses and the sweats from the two-chili-pepper dishes that we ordered, haha. I'm a little sad all the whole fish dishes were too cilantro-forward for me (a cilantro hater) to try, but the pad kra pao and the crab curry were excellent. Morning glory side was also delicious. Our favorite of the night was definitely the pork cheek starter though, so tender, juicy, and flavorful - a must order for sure. Complementary shrimp chips were pretty stale unfortunately, so that's something that could be improved upon. Portions are quite big! We took leftovers home for lunch during the week. Service was attentive, would love to come back with a larger group some time to try more things on the menu.
Dropped by for a quick lunch with my friend upon their recommendation since we were In the area and fish cheeks did not disappoint. We ordered the somtum corn salad, grilled pork cheeks, and the coconut crab curry. The latter of the two stuck out most to me not only for the cook but also the flavor. The pork was tender and paired with their sauce and the coconut crab curry was rich and buttery and came with a good portion of crab. I'd definitely recommend if you're in the area and even more so during their happy hour
I learned about this restaurant when I attended the Complex food fest. They have some of the most delicious Thai food options. My favorite dish is their crab fried rice - it's amazing! The staff were friendly and the restaurant decor was nice. The food is pricy compared to other Thai restaurants but it's definitely worth it.

Food wise, I was pescatarian at the time, so only tried a few items. The oysters were standard, tho I find it weird they charge you for hot sauce. I'm guessing that was the $1.50 charge listed above since they gave us peppers instead. The prawns were crispy and had good flavor. Service was fine. Our server was attentive and friendly. It was earlier on a weekday and rainy, so the vibe was very chill. The space is very colorful as well. Going to the restroom is like playing roulette. Finally tried Fish Cheeks after having been on my list for so long. I will preface this by saying I am typically disappointed by Manhattan Thai food. I find it oftentimes to be overpriced, coming with a lot of bells and whistles and lacking in flavor compared to Little Thailand in Queens where I grew up. This place is an exception! From beginning to end everything was excellent. The pork belly was the perfect temperature of warm, tender, a bit acidic/sour (YUM), and so delightful. I can see why many reviews recommend it. The crab curry was so nice and clean and fresh. The crab was so tender, and the curry strong, and went beautifully with the rice. It's actually such a sleeper hit, and we added it onto our order last minute. The steamed branzino was delicious, too - tender, limey, sour, sweet, a little heat - it's got everything!! And it tasted so so clean. Beware! There are tiny fish bones, so be careful as you're eating it. The dessert was good too, and very authentic.
Hiked through the cold to Fish Cheeks at 4:30 PM on a Saturday without a reservation and got a table, conditioned on leaving by 5:15 PM. Seating is cozy, and booth tables are pretty snug. We ordered the corn salad, crispy rice salad with pork, and chicken wings. The corn salad came out fast and was great. The wings were amazingly crispy with a sweet umami dusting. The crispy rice salad was good, though a bit salty, so we added jasmine rice. Overall, it was a great meal, and I can't wait to return when we're not in a rush to try more of the menu!
Fish Cheeks is, without question, the absolute best Thai restaurant in NYC. Every single dish feels like you're experiencing a completely new flavor for the very first time and the staff and service are top notch! I've been back several times now and have tried at least eight different dishes, and somehow each one has been just as incredible as the last. The menu is adventurous, bold, and perfectly balanced. I honestly don't think it's possible to take a bite here without doing a little happy food dance. If you're looking for a restaurant that constantly surprises and impresses you, Fish Cheeks is it. This is one of those rare places where every visit somehow tops the last. An absolute must-visit for anyone who loves amazing food.

The food was delicious but not in the mindblowing way that other reviews seem to rave about. My party of 3 ordered the shrimp in 3 crab sauce (raw marinated shrimp), grilled pork cheeks, crab coconut curry, crab vermicelli noodles, and steamed whole fish. The server highly recommended we order another appetizer, since they suggest 1 app and 1 entree per person given their smaller portion sizes, but we had just come from afternoon tea so we didn't need the full size meal. The two crab dishes we ordered, sadly, did not taste much like crab. The texture was fresh and all good there, but I could only taste the curry and the noodle sauce in both dishes. Granted, the flavors were good, just not crabby. The grilled pork cheek was delectable and possibly my favorite dish there, in competition with the raw shrimp which had a sauce so good I was scooping it off the plate with my spoon. The steamed fish was deboned(!) and perfectly tender, bathed in a super savory herby sauce. Surprisingly, despite being a huge crab fan, the two crab dishes were my least favorite. The restaurant itself was adorable! Bright colors everywhere, with accompanying brightly colored dishes. It was huge inside so you could easily bring a larger party, but beware the wait time because this place is popular. Definitely make a reservation if possible. Here you can find unique menu items that specialize in seafood, so if you're looking for thai food beyond your usual pad thai order, come try Fish Cheeks. read more

Fish cheeks is a great modern take on authentic Thai food. Every dish I had hit the spot! - The squid ink calamari was refreshing, packed with flavor, and I like how the squid is not deep-fried. - The grilled whole branzino is great if you're coming with a group of three to four people. The flavor is great, and it's quite tender. - The coconut crab curry is also a must-have. It packs great flavor, although I do wish there was a little more crab meat. - I'd say my favorite dish tonight was the grilled pork cheeks. They are cooked very well, super tender, and when paired with the sauce on the side, can be quite refreshing. While the lines can be long, the servers are super friendly and the atmosphere inside is bright and welcoming. I definitely recommend read more

The food was very flavorful. The seafood tower was an unexpected surprise with raw seasoned crab meet. I was planning on skipping that. Huge mistake!!!! I definitely saved that for last. The clams, oysters, and condiments to dress them were perfectly planned! The corn salad was also very tasty. It is very important to order everything early on some dishes take longer than others. Including the fried whiting, but definitely worth the wait. The service was good. The waiter was on top of it clearing our plates and adding fresh ones through the courses. The ambiance was very casual. Family welcomed. I saw dates as well as small children. The more the merrier. read more

Food: 5/5 We got the Market Oysters ($22/dozen HH), Zabb Wings ($18), Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs ($40), and Crab Fried Rice ($28). The steamed fish was the star. It was incredibly tender and comes on a heated tray so the Thai herbs and sauce stay hot. I've never had anything like this at any Thai restaurant. Service: 3/5 The service was inconsistent. The front door was open and it was cold. We asked a waiter to close the door and he said they had to leave it open. We saw the manager constantly closing it when customers would swing it open so we ended up asking him and he said no problem and closed it right away. There were so many waiters and waitresses crowded behind us just standing around, it was a bit awkward because they were right there 2 inches away. We also saw people get shrimp chips? We never got ours. Ambiance: 5/5 The ambiance is lively, trendy, and full of energy without feeling overly chaotic. The space has a modern downtown NYC vibe with colorful touches and a buzzing atmosphere that makes it great for group dinners or date nights. Of course I had to come back, I've been craving this place at least once a week. Every time I return, I bring a new friend so they can experience the magic too. Second visit was at the Brooklyn location with my homegirl and we got seated immediately. Service was quick, waiter was attentive. That location is smaller than the Noho one but still a great vibe. We shared the oysters (literally the only place that can get me to eat oysters), some white wine maybe one too many lol and the Choo Chee Scallops. I never knew I needed scallops in a curry paste sauce until now... omg SO good. The sauce alone deserves its own review. Third visit was date night and we shared the crab fried rice (obviously a must), the coconut crab curry, okay I totally get the hype now because it was DELICIOUSSSSS and the pork belly chili garlic. The flavors were amazing, super bold and savory, but we personally didn't care for the pork itself. Still definitely worth trying if you're a pork lover. At this point Fish Cheeks is becoming one of my favorite spots in the city. The food is flavorful, fun to share, and every visit somehow tops the last. read more

Omg this place was fantastic. I tried this place at my friend's suggestion and I would absolutely come back here again. We came here as a walk-in and were able to get seated with a limitation of our dining. The service was quick though the bathroom situation wasn't the best. They only had two bathrooms for bigger place. The food was great. We got the coconut crab curry, crab fried rice, calamari and duck curry. My favorite was the coconut crab curry, which is what their known for cause it's so good but also spicy. I would absolutely come back here again! read more

Fun, bright experience. Staff were friendly and knowledgable. We got the steamed whole fish which was fully de-boned; it has traditional Thai flavors and was herbacious. We also got the crab curry which had a strong crab flavor but was a bit spicier than we had anticipated-- still delicious! Their ice cream dessert is to die for; a must try! read more

Fish Cheeks, I miss you! Truly enjoyed my time at Fish Cheeks-especially on a super rainy day! We made reservations early bc they get packed fast! Because it was a rainy day in SoHo we asked if they could seat us earlier and they made it happen!! Lovee the vibe, the bright colors, traditional yet modern decor, and the extremely friendly staff! 5 stars to the chef because every dish satisfied every flavor profile, perfect balance of heat, sweetness, saltiness, and acidty- so much flavor!! I drank all the sauce with the Branzino! I will definitely come back with a group to enjoy the seafood tower during happy hour! read more
Service was lovely, the place can def get packed but still felt roomy enough to sit. Can get a little loud sometimes. We got the happy hour oysters which we loved, especially the little shallot crisps. The chili garlic pork belly was nice and crispy, goooood amount of spice level. The prawn karee was the star, such good flavor and fresh prawns. We also got the signature coconut crab curry which had a nice coconut flavor, felt like it was lacking a bit in the crab flavor and meat. I wanted to be spontaneous and try a restaurant in Williamsburg. We were greeted by Amanda and Che who were the friendliest host I have met in a long time. We didn't have reservations but a table opened up quickly. I love the esthetics of the restaurant and all the murals on the walls. Their spicy mango cocktail seems to be their top seller because almost every table had a glass, just be warned it comes with a whole chili pepper inside. I also tried non alcoholic Coco bah which was simple and refreshing. Food was all unique Thai food and flavorful. I told them I have a shrimp allergy on our lovely server Emma wrote on the menu what had shrimp or shrimp ingredients on the menu. For appetizers my friend tried the squid ink calamari and Grilled Pork Cheeks both incredible starters. My friend had the crab fried rice which is also popular in the restaurant and 30 day dry aged beef Kaprow. The dish looks like ground beef but the flavors were amazing with garlic, basil and hot chili. I will definitely want to go back and try other items on their menu. read more
I was traveling solo for work, and heard about this place. Amazing traveling alone, walked up and got a seat at the bar right away. Cute decor and totally approachable space. The food at Fish Cheeks does not miss!! Everything is super flavorful and memorable. My favorites are the coconut crab curry and the pork cheeks. The curry is rich and so good, and the pork cheeks are insanely tender. I'd skip the corn salad, which is good but in my opinion not as special compared to their other apps like the wings. Wow wow wow was this place fantastic. Highly recommended by a friend and a quick 15 minute train ride from our hotel in midtown. The way to go here is family style so you can order a bunch of dishes. The restaurant is a welcoming space of high energy and delicious Thai aromas. We were taken by our friendly host to our table on the second floor where our attentive server explained the menu. Get everything. But seriously, we enjoyed the fried chicken wings, pork cheeks, crab fried rice, coconut crab curry, steamed fish, and tofu.everything was so flavorful and delicious. Fish Cheeks has been on my restaurant list for a while so very excited to have finally tried it. The restaurant itself is super cute. There's really nice decor throughout and a lot of seating options on both sides. I love the little fish scale details as well. Me and my friend both enjoyed our cocktails, and I believe mine was called tongue and cheek. We started with the zabb wings which came highly recommended and they did not disappoint. The dry rub is delicious. We also had the corn salad which was a good side and some oysters of course. For the main course we shared the steamed fish and fried pork belly. Both were big portions and enough to share. The steamed branzino came literally steaming to the table and it was really good. The friend pork belly might've been my favorite and had a nice spicy kick to it with that crunch that I love for pork belly. Overall, will come back for sure. read more

Every dish was excellent. Crab curry was probably the best thing to highlight here. Crab fried rice was also great. Good wok aroma. Chinese people would know what that means. Fried fish was good but it was a 190+ LDL score waiting to happen. Zabb wings were a delicious as expected. Corn salad was a surprise. Very good. read more
Expensive but VERY good, my favorite was the crab coconut curry. The steamed fish is a classic, sooo tender. The inside feels very elevated and elegant, with beautiful, large windows. The staff are very kind, and the food arrived very quickly. read more

How long should I plan for dinner?
1.5 hours max... not really a lingering type of place. It will take that long to get a drink & your food
Is it realistic to eat outside in their dinning shed in January?
Greetings! Our outdoor seating is heated and covered, and we are able to provide blankets as needed. However, it all depends on the weather and temperature outdoors. Most days are quite comfortable in the outdoor booths.
Is the bar on a first come basis or reservations required?
Greetings. Bar seating is first come. However, if you are interested in bar seating as a reservation, you can include it in your notes and we will do our best to accommodate that request.

Is the lunch menu the same as the dinner menu?
Yes, at the moment the menu is the same for both lunch and dinner.
Is the outdoor seating covered?
When we were there over the winter, there was covered seating against the facade plus also a covered structure along the sidewalk.
Is it super busy on Saturday evenings? Should I/do I need to make a reservation?
First time i went was on a Saturday. It was packed. Reservations were made upon arrival.
Why are reservations only possible on the weekends and not the weekdays on Resy?
That's not true. It's for everyday of the week

They don't take reservations by phone but keep an eye out about two weeks out for them. They have indoor and outdoor dining. Outdoor dining has heaters and indoor dining is at 25% capacity with dividers between diners. All in all, felt safe eating…
Do they have alot of vegetarian options?
Yes, I recall they had a Vegetable Green curry that is made with eggplants and cauliflower.
Is there long wait time without rsvp?
Yes the wait time can be significant. The restaurant is fairly small so tables get taken fast. The food is delicious and well worth the wait if you have time. But i highly highly recommend making a reservation.
Do they have high chair?
I have never encountered babies or children under 2 in my 3 visits. Maybe because some things to eat are slightly spicy
