Was super excited to try this place with how many 5 star reviews there are. I had a reservation booked for dinner, but the hostess didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. I let her know I was there, and 15 mins after my booking, I was still not called. I had to go up to her again and it seemed like she forgot about my rsvp. It also seemed like everyone that came late was getting a table besides us. So that was very confusing and annoying. Inside the place is cute. Definitely busy and tables are pretty close together. On the plus side, our server was really sweet. We ordered the wings, raw crab, coconut crab curry, and fried fish. The complimentary shrimp chimps were pretty tasty (the sauce was yum), wings were the best item on the table, raw crab had good flavor and fresh, fried fish was not bad, however the coconut crab curry was really nothing to rave about. I feel like almost every review was gassing up this curry and was it a decent curry? Sure. But there are definitely better curries for half the price. We also got the pandan lemongrass tea which was refreshing. Unfortunately they ran out of Thai iced tea. Would I come back? Probably not. Every dish I had hit the spot! - The squid ink calamari was refreshing, packed with flavor, and I like how the squid is not deep-fried. - The grilled whole branzino is great if you're coming with a group of three to four people. The flavor is great, and it's quite tender. - The coconut crab curry is also a must-have. It packs great flavor, although I do wish there was a little more crab meat. - I'd say my favorite dish tonight was the grilled pork cheeks. I learned about this restaurant when I attended the Complex food fest. They have some of the most delicious Thai food options. My favorite dish is their crab fried rice - it's amazing! Finally tried Fish Cheeks after having been on my list for so long. I will preface this by saying I am typically disappointed by Manhattan Thai food. I find it oftentimes to be overpriced, coming with a lot of bells and whistles and lacking in flavor compared to Little Thailand in Queens where I grew up. This place is an exception! From beginning to end everything was excellent. The pork belly was the perfect temperature of warm, tender, a bit acidic/sour (YUM), and so delightful. I can see why many reviews recommend it. The crab curry was so nice and clean and fresh. The crab was so tender, and the curry strong, and went beautifully with the rice. It's actually such a sleeper hit, and we added it onto our order last minute. The steamed branzino was delicious, too - tender, limey, sour, sweet, a little heat - it's got everything!! Second visit was at the Brooklyn location with my homegirl and we got seated immediately. Service was quick, waiter was attentive. That location is smaller than the Noho one but still a great vibe. We shared the oysters (literally the only place that can get me to eat oysters), some white wine maybe one too many lol and the Choo Chee Scallops. I never knew I needed scallops in a curry paste sauce until now... omg SO good. The sauce alone deserves its own review. Omg this place was fantastic. I tried this place at my friend's suggestion and I would absolutely come back here again. We came here as a walk-in and were able to get seated with a limitation of our dining. The service was quick though the bathroom situation wasn't the best. There's really nice decor throughout and a lot of seating options on both sides. I love the little fish scale details as well. We came here unexpectedly with friends. They booked an extremely last minute reservation just 15 mins before arriving, found on Beli. They just told us we had to leave the table by a certain time for the next reservation, and it was at least 1.5 hours time, completely fine with us. I love when restaurant hosts give us that option. Favorites were the Punch Drunk Love, Panang Negroni, and the Ya Dong Party Shot. The shot was good, came with this pandan chaser, mango bites, and totally worth it in my opinion for $10. For the record, they have daily happy hour from 12-5pm which we unfortunately missed. Dishes shared were the: Crab fried rice - this was incredible. The rice was nice and greasy, full of crab flavor and had this side fish sauce with chilis. I would highly recommend you spooning that sauce all over the rice to enhance the flavor. Steamed fish with Thai Herbs - wow! Huge wow!!!! The favorite dish of the night. The steamed branzino was good perfectly, very soft. The fish was also served over heat, so it kept warm the entire time we ate it. Prawn Karee - tiger prawn with curry powder - delicious! Coconut Crab curry - pretty good, probably my least favorite but just because everything else was so stellar. This dish is quite spicy though, probably like an 8/10 with a late heat. This was my first time in New York and with food allergies it's always hard traveling and foodie things. My boyfriend wanted to take me to a really good Thai restaurant so we found this one in their downtown area. Perhaps I'm wrong. We went to so many places during the day, I kind of got lost.... So please excuse me if the location is wrong. Never done less we were able to get a table without a reservation, but it took about two hours on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated around 8p.- 1 hour timed dinner. I was really worried our server wasn't going to come back with a menu that I could eat in time because she had to go ask her executive chef what I could eat since some of their dishes contained MSG in the marinade. About 10 minutes later we had our drinks and the menu I could order from. I was sad that three of the main dishes I wanted to get all had mono sodium glycinate/MSG pre-marinated in the sauce. Nevertheless, we ended up ordering five different dishes, all pictured. Ink squid calamari Tom som corn salad Mussel gorlae Steamed fish with Thai Basil herbs (has MSG) Choo Chee scallops Grilled mackerel Coconut crab curry Each dish had a different flavor and spice to it!
