The Oak Alley Tour itself is guided by their tour guide, not by Greyline Tours. The tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. The Plantation is beautiful and the plantation house is well kept and filled with amazing antique furniture. If you are curious about the life and history of the slave masters that owned the house, you will hear all about them and their wealth. However, I didn't sign up for a tour that glorifies the family that owned the plantation. I wanted to learn more about slavery, and their hardships, culture, music, etc. If you are into French architecture and the history of plantation ownership, you would enjoy the tour more than I. 1 star for the concept of this tour based on what I hoped to experience. Being tourists in the city, we wanted to take in the sights and sounds preferring to do it in comfort with minimal walking. We traveled in September and although not peak summer, it was still hot with temps around 88-93 degrees. With city exploration on the brain, we left it to the pros at Grey Line to show us around. We did the City and Cemetery tour by bus. It was a quiet ride, air-conditioned bus with plush comfy seats. We sat in the front to hear our tour guide. Our tour guide was John and our driver was Kisha. Both did an awesome job getting us around St. Louis Cemetery #3, City Park and the Garden District. We learned a lot about each destination and enjoyed taking in all the views, history and fun facts. I didn't even realize City Park was one and a half times larger than Central Park! Paid public parking is just minutes from the main entrance lighthouse. I think we paid around $15-20 to park for 4.5 hours. Try to get there at least 15 minutes prior to arrival. They board soon after and you're given a sticker to identify as part of the tour group. Pro-Tip: Bring shades, sunscreen, a hat and a bottle or two of water with you. The summer months get hot out here! Overall, we enjoyed our 3 hour excursion. Definitely put it on your to-do's while visiting. read more

This is a well-oiled machine! I booked our tour through Get Your Guide which I've used all over the world (Paris, Germany, Turkey, USA) and we easily found the meeting spot based upon the instructions and emails. Check-in was a breeze, the bus was nice and new and spotless, and we left right on time. Our driver/guide was Alton and he was exceptional. We really enjoyed some of the history and information about New Orleans and the surrounding areas as we drove past on our 1.5 hour drive to Oak Alley plantation for a 2-hour tour. I did the swamp tour at Gray line, very amazing loved seeing the gators and the views. I do recommend riding the shuttle to get to the tour, the bus driver was amazing giving us positive energy and giving us some history making it an amazing bus ride. Took the city tour.. our tour guide had a lot of knowledge and he was pretty funny too! Two very quick stops on the tour at a cemetery and the city park. Not much time to do much but a quick bathroom break. He gave great local recommendations and we visited one that was pretty good food however the service was horrible. She was lively, fun and knowledge about the the history and culture of New Orleans. The bus ride to and from the plantation was long, but Peggy made the journey very enjoyable. The plantation home itself is air conditioned, which was such a fabulous treat! :) Tom, the boat driver on the swamp was completely entertaining, and I LOVED his accent! Sit closely if you have a hard time with accents....Tom is born and raised in the area....it's thick, but fantastic. :) You get to hold a baby gator, if you want, and the boat ride itself is slow and steady. My only negative would be the girl at the ticket counter when we checked in.... I asked her questions, she flat out didn't answer me. While we were in New Orleans, we happened upon Grey Line tours. We purchased several of their tours. We did the Bayou Pontoon Tour, the Cemetary Tour, and the Haunted Walking Tour. Each of the tours were great! The Bayou tour was very relaxing. It was about a 45-60 minutes drive in the bus and a little wait to get on the pontoon. However, it was a great tour. Our tour guide on the boat was fun and informative and he let us all hold a baby alligator. He got alligators to come near the boat by feeding them marshmallows. Who knew?! Alligators like marshmallows! Our Cemetary Tour was led by Bill, who happened to be a new anchor in town. He led a very informative tour on the way and in the cemetery. He had some great recommendations. We did get to see Marie Laveau's grave and Nicholas Cage's as well. The history of the cemetery is fascinating also. "Saved by the Bell" was coined in New Orleans in the cemetery. They used to tie a bell to the limb of someone who had passed from yellow fever and leave someone on duty after they were buried to be sure they didn't wake up. Apparently, this happened often with yellow fever victims. Our Haunted Walking Tour was led by Billie Jo. She was such a fun tour guide. She was excited and had so much energy. She took us to places that most tour guides don't take us and she had great history and stories that she shared. We did catch some spirits on camera! Grey Lines will definitely have any tour you need. I know we will use them again! read more

My wife and I were lucky enough to find a Katrina tour on New Year's Day and we were even luckier to find John Olivard as our host and guide. This man is impassioned and he loves his city. He came back to it against many odds to begin rebuilding and, through his courage, I found myself thinking "maybe I can rebuild." We did several Grey Line tours while in NOLA, and we enjoyed all of them! If you a Marriott Rewards member, book through the Moments by Marriott site to get major bonus points! All the tours we participated in departed from and returned to the lighthouse depot near the river, which was very convenient. Bus service was provided when necessary. The Voodoo and cemetery tour was great, and included the elusive admission to St. Louis No. 1. Our guide was very fun and informative, and gave us all gris gris bags to keep us safe while in NOLA. Do not miss the Garden District Walking tour. Very informative, gorgeous homes, and an opportunity to visit inside a home as well. We had several people try to "join" our tour to get a look inside - sorry Charlie! We also decided we needed to do the Steamboat Natchez cruise, sans lunch - we had just finished brunch at Commander's Palace. We thought it was great. Good music, interesting tour guide,we had a great table right along the railing on the second deck. A lovely afternoon! I have learned that Grey Line operates in other cities as well, and I will be checking them out on future trips for sure! read more

While he tried he wasn't trained as a tour guide and I feel it lacked some compared to prior Covid. Just a suggestion. read more

My 2 sons ages 12 and 14 and my cousin and I took the walking French Quarter tour with Heather as our tour guide. Heather did an awesome job. We learned all about the history of New Orleans and she took us to see all kinds of interesting spots in the French Quarter. Heather is a wealth of knowledge. I was really impressed by her tour. We got to go in a beautiful courtyard with a lovely fountain and sit in the shade (this is in June, 2019) and hear stories about the historic fire that took place in New Orleans. Booked the steam boat lunch and tour. I had average hopes for this, no high hopes. Well I set my bar, too high. The live jazz band was good. The Buffett.... well, just blah. The narrator tried to be comedic but was over the top, ignorant. Paid for the lunch Buffett so we could eat, see the scenery and relax. My husband and I took the Katrina tour with JoAnn. We learned so much about the storm and the city. JoAnn has lived in New Orleans her entire life so she had volumes of information. Her knowledge of life before and after Katrina was fascinating. The trip was comfortable and we had multiple opportunities to use a bathroom during one of our stops. We were able to bring drinks on the bus which was also nice. If you have an interest in Katrina this is definitely a great way to spend an afternoon. My partner and I took the Whitney Plantation tour this week, and up until the very end it was fantastic. Midge is a great tour guide, a native who is knowledgable and funny. The Whitney Plantation is an affecting, unflinchingly honest museum of the southern agrarian economy. Yes, the big house, carefully restored to an historically accurate state, showcases the elegance and gentility of the lives of plantation owners and their families. But drawn clearly is the price of that luxury through the outbuildings of slave life, quarters, holding cells and work buildings, and particularly with the memorials to each of the slaves that toiled on this property. We even met the owner and founder of the museum, whose clear mission to shine a light on the tough truths of this world was evident. Sobering. Difficult. Worthwhile. But it was really jarring and disturbing to follow this visit up with a video in the bus of other famous plantations in Louisiana that not only glorified this way of life but glossed over slavery and its ramifications. We noted that in this film slaves were almost entirely called "servants", those demonstrating plantation household chores were hoop-skirt-clad white women, and the plantation owners referred to as "victims" of a changing economy post-Civil War. We were astonished, and frankly sickened, by this sugar-coating that seemed particular egregious after such a truthful narrative at the Whitney. Seriously, there has to be a more balanced and accurate educational video on plantation life to show. After this one, we definitely needed a drink. read more

Really? Grey line, the bus company offers tours? Sure! Bottom line, I was a tourist walking near Cafe Du Monde and stumbled upon their ticket booths. I'm glad I did because I decided to randomly book a ticket to the Swamp/Plantation tour that day. It's approximately 5 hours and you have to play it by ear because some are cancelled due to rainy weather. The bus left from the Steamboat area and drove us to the plantation within an hour. I'm lucky that it wasn't that crowded in December too because we were able to move quickly and learn so much from the docents. Our group spent about 2 1/2 hours on the plantation including 1/2 hour of free time and then headed to the swamp for another 1 1/2 hours. I'd give 5 stars to the hosts at both the plantation and swamp tours because of their knowledge and humor. Their bus tour guide wasn't the best and felt that she was very forgetful. read more

Had the chance to go on the Oak Alley tour. Originally my group and I were scheduled to go on the Whitney tour but unfortunately the plantation was closed due to electrical issues. Oak Alley was beautiful. The house tour was good but the conversation about life behind the big house was more informative and more interesting. The star of the tour was our bus tour guide Jim. He was funny and informative and kept everyone entertained for the hour drive. If you use this tour company you have to request to be on Jim's tours. He is a retired history teacher who knows facts about everything. I have been on several different tours over the years and he is by far one of the best tour guides I have ever had. read more
