Can't recommend this place enough! Sue is an absolute gem, her homemade Pistachio Lush is a must-try. Service was wonderful; great descriptions of different wines, friendly conversation, and the owners really go out of their way to be accommodating and generous. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming--highly recommend the outdoor seating on a warm evening! The Grey Mule feels comfortable, lived-in, yet still exciting and interesting. Great place for a relaxing evening of wine tasting, with appetizers and pizza available Susan and Adrian were excellent hosts, and she told us a bit of the history of the place as a pub and a location for the St Genevieve winery, which unfortunately closed down. I am 100% sure I left a positive review about this establishment and have a few turned a couple of times and do not understand why Yelp has it removed. I am 100% sure I kept with all of the guidelines, that is dirty for you to do that to the people that write reviews for you, Yelp. There is not much to do in Fort Stockton and if you are from a large city, this is the closest you will get to a venue of that caliber. I will always find a way to return to this establishment when I come around here whether to be work wise were passing by. The gentleman that usually serves me and the owner are very cordial people. Parking is limited so you might find yourself at a stupor at peak times. Yelp staff behind the computers, stop deleting people's reviews just because of an establishment does not pay the monthly going rate that y'all desire. read more

I don't usually go to wine bars. But, when I was touring around historical downtown Fort Stockton, I stumbled across it. They need a better sign and more marketing because the Grey Mule Saloon and the wines are very good. I enjoyed a couple glasses and took home a few bottles to my wife who is a true wine drinker. She is enjoying them every night. I was entertained by the bartenders and a local character who was chatting up some girls inside. But, the patio also looks like a great place to hang out. read more

Let's be honest - Fort Stockton doesn't offer much. So we were surprised to find a small wine-tasting room downtown. An old historic saloon, the Grey Mule, has been turned into a tasting room for St. Genevieve wines. It's a cute venue, though not much has been done to dress it up or play up the historical angle. Service was friendly, but very "small town" - not very professional and no "polish" at all. Don't misunderstand - we liked our server but she was not very good at describing the wines. The wines were OK. St. Genevieve has a large number of labels, but nothing we sampled stood out. Overall, the Grey Mule was a nice break on a stretch of interstate where there isn't much beyond fast food and truck stops. read more

I work out of Ft. Stockton quite a bit and The Grey Mule is my little refuge from the craziness that is the oil and gas industry. It is a bit of an oasis, as you would never imagine in a million years that this place is in the heart of Ft. Stockton. The service is always impeccable and they strive to make every single person in the place have the best experience possible. West Texas is not noted for its wine making prowess, but I will say the white's, especially the chardonnay is very good. There is nothing I like more than hanging out on the patio, doing a little work and enjoying a great bottle of their chardonnay. If you are close, it is worth the trip. read more

We were visiting family and stopped at the Annie Riggs Museum. The quaint feel and gorgeous patio initially attracted us to this establishment, but the only way to truly immerse oneself in a new environment is to jump in face first!! We had a large group with a bunch of kids, so our first thought was that we were going to have to find another place to accommodate our party. Once we made it to the patio and were greeted by the staff, my needless worries were set at ease. The other patrons went there for a tranquil environment so they may not have appreciated our presence, but the service was so extraordinary that it didn't even matter. The "two woman army" not only treated my family to a 5 star wine tasting experience but made it possible for a new generation connect with an older one by creating such a family friendly environment. It's refreshing to experience big city service with Southern hospitality while sipping on the local delicacies. We all truly appreci8ed our time together and left with some wine to be used as gifts, but i think that they'll end up as empty souvenir bottles and a mental keepsake!! We stopped into this gem after stopping in town for a couple of nights before heading to Big Bend after we did laundry of course. Place was very warm and inviting. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. We noticed they had a back patio and asked if we could do wine tasting outside and bring our pup. They said of course thats what it's there for. Adrianne was our server who took the time to explain the different wines we were tasting and provided some background on each. He made it a point to come out and tell us the entire back was fenced so we were free to let our dog off leash to explore. Such a cute set up with a place for a band to play, outdoor heaters as well as an outside fireplace all set up for during the season. (We were there off season). Prices were very reasonable $6.00 for 5 wine tastings and very reasonable per glass prices. Do yourself a favor and support a local business you won't regret it. read more
