Went here over the weekend. Upon arrival no one greeted or acknowledged us. We were uncertain if we seat ourselves or wait for an employee. Eventually, we walked over to the crowded bar and asked if we could seat ourselves. It was packed, so packed that we had to sit outside, which was fine but it was cold. We had asked the server if he could turn on the patio heater, our request was just ignored. I was there with four other friends and none of us had ever been there. When the server approached he asked us if we knew what we wanted, we shared that we had never been there and we were uncertain. At which point he said ok, I'll be back in a few to get your order. I just want say to all servers out there, this is a WIDE OPEN invitation to give your feedback and suggestions to your table when the people share they haven't been there before. We WANT you to give us recommendations, DUH. We decided on the Cuban Nachos which were awesome. And the beer was good as well. I will be back to try a few more items and a few other beers, hoping next time the staff is more friendly. Perhaps, they are still figuring thing out being so new and all? Been to a lot, but never experienced a startup brewery roll out beers this great from day one. Favorites include the Mozacca IPA, Schadenfreude Hefe and the Boxy Brown. Also, best staff in town (including behind the scene). read more

I enjoy the food and beer at Greyline - only downfall is they don't have high chairs or changing tables in the bathrooms. Holding my 10 month old the entire meal wasn't ideal, especially since it's stated on yelp they are good for kids. read more

This was my first time at Greyline and we were impressed! We got a flight of 9 beers and liked them all, but the Rambler (red ale) was my favorite! Highly recommended. It was a super hot day and we (by our own choice) were out on the patio, and we were a little hungry, so we ordered the pickle wraps and they were so so good and refreshing on a hot day. I was in Michigan, and nearly needed a beer after the day I had. An old friend said, "Go to Greyline. It's great." A few fine craft beers and some Polish roses later, I say that recon mission was a success. The IPA was rich and hoppy, without being crazy hipster hoppy, with notes of citrus and pine. I loved it. The pale ale was crushable and smooth. The only complaint I could make is, the environment needs a little sound dampening. Every sound bounces like it is a concert in a can. This place is an overlooked gem! A bit out of the way, but they have their own lot and it was a pretty cheap uber ride. It was slow when we stopped in on a Sunday evening, and we were welcomed right away. I had a maple brisket slider and my husband had a "short" of a sandwich and was still loaded with meat. He enjoyed their mac and cheese, too. The beer selection was varied, and I sampled several kinds. I was especially impressed with a couple of their coffee beers and got a crowler of each to go. I like the beer. A lot. I understand the guy who developed a great percentage of the Founders beers is the brewmaster here, so of course I love the beer. The coffee stout and the bourbon barrel stout are my favorites. The staff is also very accommodating and the atmosphere is pretty ideal. The only reason I didn't give it a "five" was the endless drone of lousy music that they were playing that made it difficult to hold a conversation with someone. I don't think most craft beer drinkers are hardcore country, techno or rap fans, so maybe it's best to tread lightly with those styles of music unless you want people to head for the exits. read more

I'm not sure what everyone is talking about with this brewery. It's just okay. I think everyone wants a new hip(ster) place, so when they came on the scene they got great reviews and good initial buzz. The Brewers came with an awesome pedigree and all the snobs wanted it to rock. If the buzz hasn't fizzled out, it should. Pros: it's a brewery Cons: SERVICE, beer is just okay. Service: I usually end with service not start with it, but my most recent experience was so bad that I have to. Inexplicably waited well over 20 minutes for beers. There were open tables and spots at the bar. I watched the male bartender standing at the end chumming with a patron. Apparently all the customer service went directly into that dude. Jokes on him though because whatever filled his glass was as basic as a soccer mom with her iPhone. Actually, the jokes on us because we waited 20 minutes for said basic beer. There was one girl who kept walking around back there. I'm not one to wave my arms around but I was getting close. Then finally out of nowhere a brunette girl swoops in and takes care of us. Really inexcusable but unfortunately what I've noticed with recent GR trips is that the abysmal service is in line with a few other places with similar business models. Not only were they slow but they weren't friendly or happy. It reminded me of New York City friendliness at a Caribbean pace. Beer: Ordered a couple pints and a few small pours. The IPAs were IPAs. They could've been put out by Goose Island, so I'm not sure why the beer snobs are so enthralled. I can say they were well executed from a brewing standpoint but lots of style over substance, which really is the case in today's restaurant and brewery industries. The beers just packed dynamic flavor. The descriptions were so muted to the actual taste. I checked my untapped to give each beer a lack Luster review and lonebehold there were already lackluster reviews from me. In fact, I had each of those beers before and I haven't been here in about a year and a half! If they were going to stick with service recipes one would assume they were great. I was happy to try the barrel candy barley wine. I had it at a bottle share and couldn't remember it, wish I could forget it again. Brutally sweet to the point it's off putting. Steamroller really isn't bad. In closing, check it off, stamp your passport and move along. There is nothing to see here. Loved this brewery, really great low key place somehow thriving in an industrial area. I was impressed with use of local bread and local coffee. Sandwiches are excellent- I got the Marcus and the pickled jalapeños were actually spicy, they seemed higher quality than your everyday grocery store. Any one or any combination of the sliders is an experience in itself. The beers are among the best in the city. The staff is friendly and efficient. The place is clean and orderly. What's not to like. For gosh sake, do something about the noise in this place. I've visited several times over the past six months. If there are more than ten or so patrons, the volume level is extremely uncomfortable. Install some baffling please. read more

I've lived in some solid craft beer towns. Northern California and Oregon in the early 90s, Colorado, Austin, and now Michigan. I love a great brewery and beer. Without divulging my old age, I have to say this was a solid place to get a good beer. I love a good west coast Ipa. I didn't try the food, but had the only ipa on tap, the Mosacca. It was a solid ipa, fairly balanced. I do have to say, the acoustics in the building were hard to deal with. I had to have a beer and leave. A few other patrons noticed the same thing. A small space and super loud to the point uncomfortable. It was hard to talk without yelling. The place way packed, but the staff was super friendly. Food menu was extremely limited nothing to rave about. but willing to go back for one beer. I can see definite potential because of the solid beer they brew. I was thoroughly impressed with Greyline. Their beer was superb, and there was a great variety of style available. Each had its strengths, but of the eight I tried, Mozacca, an IPA, and their coffee stout were my two favorites. The food was equally nice. I had the Pig and a Goat Walk into a Bar sandwich, and my wife had two sliders. My sandwich was outstanding, and according to the wife, the brisket was really good, but the chicken salad slider was not her favorite. That being said, the small menu may seem limiting to some patrons. In all honesty, what I loved most about this place was our friendly server. She was not only knowledgeable about each of the beers, but enjoyed hearing our thoughts and opinions about the styles. Overall, I'd give this place a 4.5, and it would easily move up to a five with more food added to the menu. read more

Greyline is a newer addition to the long list of breweries and bars in Grand Rapids, and although it could be easy to get lost in the crowd that's not an issue here. The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere. The building is very modern and minimal. It's not a rowdy place, it's the kind of place you go with some close friends or with a date for some good beer and conversation. When I went they were playing Vince Staples which isn't what I'd expect but I really enjoyed. Very hip. The service is also very friendly and prompt. The beer is great. In Beer city it can be hard to stand out, and so every bar seems to have some wild beers with crazy high ABV. Greyline has a good selection but what has stood out to me is their selection of wheat ales and lighter beers. Those aren't typically what stand out in a craft beer mecca, but it's sometimes nice to get a break from heavy stouts or potent novelty beers like 13% paprika sours or something ludicrous like that (I just made that up but you get what I mean). I was a big fan of Rolled Gold. The food is good. It's only bar food but it's made with fresh ingredients. I'm quite fond of the Cuban Nachos. All in all, Greyline is a great spot. It is definitely a part of my "beer circuit". read more

Favorite new brewery in GR. Every beer is unique and tasty. The sliders (especially the Cuban) are excellent as well.

Finally we tried this place. The place is cute. We tried Rambler and Humblebee beers. They were good. Please don't order food here. Everything is premade. Kitchen is just there to put food on plate. We ordered pretzel and west side dip sandwich. The pretzel wasn't freshly made. Was out from a bag warmed in oven and tasted okay but sandwich was really bad. My girlfriend and I came in about 7:30 on a Wednesday night. We didn't see a server or hostess so we seated ourselves. After about 15 minutes of no acknowledgement, I walked to the bar and asked the bartender if someone could come visit us. He replied "we're pretty busy and we only have 3 servers. someone will come see you when they get a chance. I can get you a drink now or you can wait." I told him we had been there for more than a few minutes. He didn't seem to care. I sat back down for five minutes and then we left. Keep in mind this is a very small place and three servers is more than enough if they wouldn't talk amongst themselves while business is waiting. After running some errands on a Saturday afternoon, we decided to stop for a snack! We sat at a long table that multiple groups could sit at. We had been there once before also for a snack so we knew the beers. I enjoyed the Fruitopia while my husband enjoyed Drypa. Both reminded us of our favorites from other breweries, Soft Parade and All Day IPA. We ordered the Cuban Carnitas Nachos and pickle wraps. The nachos are great, simple but have so much flavor. With the pickle wraps, you get 5 spear WRAPS! We had to take one home cause we couldn't eat them all! The beer cheese on them is creamy and mild! Great place for a snack! Wish they had a more extensive menu cause they are getting everything right there! read more

Great place. I monitor Grand Rapids breweries from afar because I'm not a local and finally had the opportunity to stop into Grey Line this past weekend while in town. Loved every beer I tried.
