Not a review for you Stout dorks. Judging by what I drank, the Stouts are prob great here but I'm not one of you bearded mid wit donkeys. This is an important review about IPAs. This is the best tap IPA in Michigan, and it's not even close. it was Sturdy something or study something. I went in last week and had a Dam Good IPA and thought, this place has what most breweries can't do with an IPA. It was great! Went back for the Dam Good, they were out but they had a different one. This was better. For those that love an IPA, this rivals some of the best anywhere. I said, finally a Michigan brewery has done it. A Michigan Made an IPA that can be an alternative to some greats that douches would say are overplayed like Pliny, Maine Beer Lunch, or Bodhi. Parking was ample. read more

Was in the area so decided to stop by for some appetizers and a drink - Saturday afternoon, very slow. Walked in and wasn't greeted. Originally sat ourselves at a table like the sign said and still received no attention. Eventually moved to the bar. Several normal bar items were out of stock. I come to Gravel Bottom frequently with my coworkers, and their cozy feel and rotating selection of beverages make it a great place to grab a drink. They're conveniently located in Ada village, so there's lots to do within walking distance. They also have a great selection of appetizer and flatbreads; I recommend trying out the pickle flatbread if you're feeling adventurous. Highly recommend for grabbing a snack and some drinks with friends! read more

With 1/4 of the beer out of stock (3 of 11) and the food menu limited it was a rough night. We ordered beer cheese beef sliders and pulled pork nachos. Let's just say the beer cheese was missing and the pork dryer than the drywall. And the nachos lacked... well... nachos. Very disappointed. read more

Very good. They recently moved to nicer newer digs since Ada village decided to rebuild itself (like it or not). It's a nice space with many freshly brewed beer choices. Since I was designated driver, I asked for a cola--they have a very nice fountain Detroit cola. We went around noon on a Sunday. To our surprise, there were quite a few young families there. Not a problem at all, just unexpected. As you can see, there is a kids menu. Husband likes IPAs so he had the Quincy. Wow--it tasted like fermented grapefruit juice to me. He liked it. To eat we had the chips and three salsas and the flatbread chicken pesto. Liked the chicken pesto very much. The chips and salsa were fine. I liked the curry salsa especially. The hot salsa could be hotter. The chips are interesting--fairly thick. Nothing wrong with them, just not my preferred style. Our server was excellent. read more

Gravel Bottom, oh boy maybe I'm just spoiled by my usual brewery but this was a tremendous disappointment. It started off promising. The beer flight we ordered was good, (for the most part) the country girl blonde and sangeuity wheat being among the standouts. For dinner we ordered (to split among the three of us) the Brussels sprouts, the naan cheese bread, the strawberry habanero wings and the salsa trio. Here's where it gets ugly. Sometimes when food comes too fast it's a red flag and it definitely was tonight. Everything came out within minutes of ordering. The salsa trio was basically 3 cups of gfs salsa with added corresponding spices (Sriracha, curry, chipotle) and store bought tortilla chips. What a wasted opportunity to make something amazing plus if you aren't making your own chips at this point take them off your menu. No one wants to spend $7 for cold, store bought chips. The Brussels and bread were ok, a little heavy handed with the Italian seasoning and the bread was small but ok. The wings were horrible. Really bad. Rubbery, watery sauce and no flavor. (And only 1 flat vs 5 drums which is a huge pet peeve of mine) they were so bad my husband didn't even finish them and he eats pretty much anything. The service was meh friendly enough but not vested in our table enough to follow up why so much of our food was uneaten and no boxes requested. It was my 3rd time to the Brewery and I had such a great time, as I always do! This time was different because they added cocktails to the menu. It was really busy but I didn't have trouble getting service. I'm not much of a beer drinker but I usually find something good. The Thornapple Martini was so good! The Gravelpolitan was great too! What a fun little place! We recently went here to check out their beer. We did not get any food, though. The beer was pretty good. They had quite a few on tap, so we ended up getting 2 flights. Most of what we tried was actually really good. The owner was the person serving us, which is really nice to see, and we got to talk to him a little bit about his beer. They have a closet full of board games here, so that is fun. There were families in there as well, so clearly family friendly. After we finished our beers, we asked the owner for a quick impromptu tour, although their brewing facility is very small. It was cool, and it was very nice of him to take the time to show us around and talk brewing with us! I would recommend coming here for sure! read more

Before this place closed its doors to the public, because of the Covid 19 pandemic, my husband and I, along with some friends of ours, spent an afternoon here. My husband tried a bunch of their beers and liked them all, but he especially liked the Bucket Foot Black IPA. I don't drink beer (can't have the carbonation) so I was allowed to bring in my own coffee. It was handy that there was a Starbucks right next door. We were there on the third Sunday of the month which is when "crafters" meet and drink. While the guys sat at their own table the women sat at a different table and knitted and crocheted. It was a nice relaxing atmosphere and I can't wait to do it again after the stay at home orders are lifted. read more

I liked the beer. Atmosphere was decent although very loud tonight. Service was friendly but kind of sucked. Food was ready and we watched it sit at the kitchen window for a full 10 minutes while staff socialized amongst themselves. When they finally brought it to us, wings were pretty much terrible, over seasoned and tough, tots were cold (from sitting), flatbread was decent but mostly bland. Stumbled in here because I ordered fish and chips from Kingma's next door (RIP) and was told that it was going to be a 45-minute wait - and where better to wait it out than at a brewery! Totally unexpected and totally on a whim but I will definitely return here next time I'm feeling a cozy spot with a wide selection of beers at a really reasonable price. I love that you can get a flight and get as many beers as you want for ~$1.50 each. My husband and I tried 6 different beers and then ordered pints of our favorites - I loved "Big Winner." When we saw the delicious food coming out of the kitchen we kind of regretted ordering food from next door. Well I'm never going here again. My husband and daughter and I went today for a Father's Day lunch. There was only one other table and two people at the bar, but it still took over 30 minutes to get our food and another 10 minutes for my toddler's chicken. That was a fun wait! The food arrived over cooked and cold, so it must have been sitting around collecting dust for awhile. Our server was the bartender and she couldn't have cared less, brought us chips on the side when we said "no" to them AND still up charged us for them. It took her over 6 minutes to deliver our check and a box and then she never came back, the other server closed us out. I haven't been so disappointed in a restaurant in a long time - it's hard to believe this place survived Covid. read more

I stopped here with my husband during our never-ending quest to try all the breweries in and around Grand Rapids. It's off the beaten path and a little tough to find, so keep your eyes open! It's a real small place, with only about six seats at their corner bar. They've also got a few tables. The bartender was friendly but not well-versed in the offerings. She admitted being new and not knowing much about a couple beers. That wasn't a good first impression. We tried all five beers they had. A couple were pretty good, one was decent and the other two were not good at all. They tasted very young, like they were rushing the process. I wouldn't completely write Gravel Bottom off if you're trying to conquer GR breweries but I personally probably wouldn't stop in again. There are better, more consistent breweries I'd rather stop at. Sidenote: if you're a homebrewer, there is a supply store inside Gravel Bottom for you to get all your supplies. Prices were comparable to what you'd find at most online outlets like Northern Brewer or Homebrewing.org. read more

Such a hidden gem... I would totally frequent Gravel Bottom more if they were closer to me. The good news for me is that they are opening a second location that is closer to me, yay! Over the years they have really progressed in their brewing skills and are brewing up some killer beers as of late! The place is nice and cozy. It isn't very big but private and community seating to choose from. The beer list isn't complication, meaning there are lots and lots to choose from, but they definitely provide variety in their styles. There is a homebrew shop connected to it that is fun to walk around even if you don't have a clue. They don't have any food but you can bring in or order out. They do have a few snacks available for purchase but nothing substantially filling. If you haven't been, go! Just be aware that there is some construction due to Kingma's opening but you can still get there. Easy to follow signs lead the way! read more

My final straw was when a staff member finally came over to greet and seat the couple who came in 5 minutes AFTER me while still actively ignoring me. This is a great little brewery in Ada! It's got a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. I'm a little picky about beer, but always find a good one here. They keep a nice variety on tap from IPA's to stouts, and they are happy to let you taste whatever you'd like before ordering. You can get any of the beers to go, too. My favorite foods on the menu are the flatbreads and the Italian sandwich. The cheese sauce with the soft pretzel is delicious too. There's a patio that is great in the summer, and has heaters if you want to sit outside in the winter. read more

Stopped by this place after a hockey game for a quick bite to eat. Had the nachos and a flat bread pizza. The pizza had a good flavor but the crust was under cooked. I prefer a crispy flat bread crust, this crust was soft. The nachos with beer cheese were great. Next time I come I will get a dish with the chili and beer cheese. Wasn't impressed with our food. The beer was good and our server was nice, but our flatbreads were soggy, overly cheesey, and mine had overwhelmingly seasoned chicken. The flatbreads are served on wax paper, but it gets damp from the flat bread and causes the knife to cut it and get on the food. I think if our food was cooked a little longer, to have a little crisp, and had slightly less cheese, we would have given a higher review. Overall, it was worth checking out, but we'll likely stick to only beer in the future. read more

I reviewed this place for the previous location. There it was just beer and you could order out. Things have changed. Now they have a kitchen. The wings were cooked well, crispy and moist. The sauce however (their take on Asian zing) was not good. It reminded me a lot of what buddy the elf's spaghetti might have tasted like. Grossly sweet. We followed this with a pesto chicken flat bread. This was tasty and I would order it again. Bottom line, they have created a great happy hour menu but not one that will draw people looking for an actual entree. The beer list is bigger but if you don't like IPAs you are shorted. I would love to see a brown or a Belgium. Hopefully, after tinkering around they can find a more sophisticated menu that meets a wider range of options. read more

This is the best beer in town! I'll admit that I'm a regular, working nearby. I tend to look for a try micro brews where ever I am and this tends to be my favorite - the one I compare others to. Since they moved, they have been able increase production and keep a wider selection of beers on tap. I tend to like the hoppier beers such as Gentlemen Bronco (NE IPA), Skeeter (IPA) or Nooky (chinook hops) and i find theirs at the top. The Skeeter tastes like a grapefruit beer, but no fruit is added. It is all the hops! read more
