The owner was not only open to hearing my criticism, but followed up on my complaints. He walked me through step by step what had happened, and said they are making tangible steps to improve the process. Based on this customer service, I will try the store again, with hopes that the improvements have been made. -- I bought a goat leg a year or so ago, and it was expensive, but I was okay with spending more for quality, and didn't have an issue. I recently came in to buy some more goat meat... I needed 2 lbs, but they only had 3 and 5 lbs packaged and that's all they were willing to sell, already packaged, already cut meat. I should have walked away then but I didn't. I bought the already packaged and already cut "bone in" meat. I've never before bought cut meat that was bone in, and when buying leg meat not stew meat, it's just plain weird. I am willing to pay more for quality, but I didn't get quality. The meat I bought was 1 lbs of bone, not usable for what I needed. So in reality I ended up paying not $13.99/lb but $48.55/1 lb and 13 ounces, a ridiculous price. I also feel a bit cheated, since when I weighed the meat it home, it was short by a good 1 lbs from what the package claimed. Now if the meat was good quality, that would be one thing. But the thing that really bothered me, and caused me to write this review, was the clear lack of care that went into butchering the meat. It clearly was not butchered at all, but sawed through, bone and all, into chunks. Bone dust was all over the meat, meaning I had to carefully rinse each piece to get off as much bone dust as possible. I know how to butcher meat, and should have done it myself, but this is just unacceptable from any place calling itself a butcher shop, let alone at these prices.

Again did not understand much and did not know pricing. He said he just started working there. He told me there is no skirt steak. So was the previous day worker lying to me about the delivery. This is bad service. I don't mind the language barrier however the workers should know prices of items and the different cuts of meat. And should know if the meat that I am requesting is actually going to be delivered. It's tiny, but they have the real goods. I asked for a 2" thick porterhouse with a big filet and they opened a new case and sawed a perfect, beautiful steak off the correct end for me, trimmed it perfectly. Everyone is family, working together and having a good time, and they are extremely helpful and friendly. What a great experience. I will be back, soon.

Another shop within the Bristol Amish Market in Bristol, PA…read more The staff is authentic Amish/Mennonite, in frocks, bonnets , or beards and overalls. The meat looks fresh and thick cuts predominate. Focus is in pork, beef and a good variety of sausage ready for the hot skillet. We picked up some beautiful chops for dinner eating later this week, and some breakfast sausage which was too pretty to pass up. Prices still had the post Covid inflationary bump, but we are getting used to that. If as scrumptious as anticipated, the small increase in coin will be quickly forgotten. Besides, the road-trip out to Lancaster would cost us a lot more than the drive to the outskirts of historic river town Bristol, only 25 minutes from home.

It's high time for an update here…read more It's amusing to go back and read my old reviews. I was pretty strict in my ratings, truthfully I still am. But that is tempered with more experience and hopefully empathy. I stand by my original words, even though I cringe when re-reading them. When I'm in this farmers market there are several businesses I like to patronize. I don't always need to buy things here, but every time I do I'm happy with the quality and price. On my recent visit I was getting something elsewhere here for an uncle, and then I had a sudden flash of insight.... I'd see if they had any chicken pot pies in stock. They did and I selected the larger one, and a Lancaster brand that I knew I liked. I also got their homemade red bliss potato salad. I liked it a lot and will have to try other salads. The pie was great as always, and a pretty good deal at $9. Other customers were buying the amazing thick cut bacon or other pristine pieces of meat. Along with a few other Lancaster imported items, this shop still carries the local honey from a stall they've expanded into. I was happy to find that credit cards are accepted and I believe there is no additional fee. This butcher shop is a pillar of this market and not one to be overlooked.
