My husband and I drove up to the Grill this morning(from East Lyme) for the Sunday Brunch. The restaurant is an hour from our home but well worth the drive. This is our third trip up for the Brunch because we enjoy it so very much. First of all we love the building itself! There is a write up on it in the beautiful foyer and it says that it's a historic building built in 1795 that was first a tavern then became the first Post Office for the Pomfret area, very nice! We always want to sit in one of the rooms with a fireplace. We were greeted with a smile and seated promptly, as we had been in the past. Right by the beautiful fireplace! Yippee!
The waitress came right over and introduced herself, Brandy, and brought us the menu's and explained of the specials they were having today. Everything sounded delicious and we were hungry! She offered us coffee or anything we wanted to drink. The coffee came right away and was hot and good. So, we settled in by the fire and perused the menu a bit. When we came the first time and enjoyed it so much we decided we would keep coming back and have something different so we could try each meal on the menu! Seemed like a good plan but there was a problem. We both liked what we had so much that we both wanted it again...haha, so much for that idea... As of today we have had the burrito, eggs Benedict, poached eggs, scrambled and an omelet, All great. Before breakfast is brought to the table the waitstaff brings over a basket of freshly made (warm) chocolate chip scones and biscotti....so very good! They also added freshly sliced watermelon and melon to the plates and it was so yummy. Several choices for breakfast come with hash brown potatoes that are out of this world, cooked to perfection. Yes, I know it's only hash browns BUT at some places they just aren't GOOD! The waitress was great! she was attentive and there when we needed her...can't ask for better. We don't like more attention then we need...and I like waitstaff that smile. Sounds silly but some places the people look like they would rather be somewhere else and it's not pleasurable to deal with someone like that. The prices were very reasonable, the selection was great and amount of the food was more then enough. We both like to dine at places that give you a good size portion. My husband and I have good hardy appetites. We went right at 10 (when it opened that day) and watched as people came in....there are several dining areas, so plenty of seating without being crowed, I like that. We did not feel rushed (as some places make you feel) and thoroughly enjoyed our Brunch there, as we have in the past. My husband and I are not drinkers (and it was morning, after all) but the bar area was beautiful and looked fully stocked. There is a banquet hall there that is just beautiful and a gazebo that I saw through the window and a lot of gardens that must be gorgeous during the warmer seasons! The waitress mentioned that couples use the gazebo for wedding ceremonies and then the reception inside. It MUST be lovely!!! She also mentioned that they have live music or open mic night on Wednesday (she called it Hump Day!)... I do believe we will be taking a ride up this week to enjoy the live band they are having...as I said in the beginning. Well worth the drive! read more
