Went back to check out how the quality is after not going there in a long time. Seated myself and was greeted quickly by a very pleasant server. There was a good selection of specials that day but I settled on the beer battered fish and chips and the clam chowder. Clam chowder came quickly and it was a bit of a disappointment. It really should have been labeled potato chowder because that's what it mostly was comprised of. Very pieces of clam and the seasoning wasn't that great. Not sure there would be another order the next time I go to the restaurant. The fish and chips was the star of the visit. Fish had a nice light coating of batter, very crunchy and flavorful. As always the cod was incredibly fresh and flaky and well fried. The fries were also very crunchy and held their crunch throughout the whole meal. This is definitely a dish that will be ordered again. The seating is comfortable but it is an old style restaurant, think of going out to dinner with Mom and Dad in the 60's but don't let that put you off trying this establishment. read more

Visited tonight after a long time away. Had the southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and salad. Salad was iceberg lettuce, a few onion and tomatoes. Chicken was fine but mashed potatoes were tasteless and not really mashed. My husband had the chicken bowl. We both agreed, MEH. read more

The ambiance inside is nice. The dining room to the left of the entrance contains many booths and looks to be updated in the recent past. Very nice. To the right of the entrance is a bar with high-top seating and an older dining room w/tables, Windsor style chairs and carpeted floors beyond the bar. A selection of country music played softly in the background. This is most definitely a 'local' spot. There were plenty of customers who know each other. They are very comfortable with the staff and each other. Pro top: If you are easily offended by 'salty' language, I recommend you sit in the dining room to the left of the entrance - furthest away from the bar. A hostess seated us with menu's, took our drink order, delivered it, then let us know our server would be with us soon. I watched the bartender making my drink and I'm not sure she actually knew what she was doing and the drink tasted that way so maybe it was something they don't normally prepare. Pro tip #2: The on-tap beer price is good. When our server arrived they were very no-nonsense (curt? brief? concise?). We both ordered entrees and chose mashed potatoes as a side. We were asked if we wanted gravy which was confusing because one of the entrees was fish and I couldn't imagine gravy on fish. It was for the mashed potatoes of course. Duh. So pro tip number 3: no matter what the protein, gravy is available for your mash. Although our soup and salad were immediately delivered to the table, we waited quite a while for our entrée to appear. After about twenty minutes or so (? could be less, could be more, not watching the clock, but we had an idea of when we arrived) I noticed our server walking by the table noticed no food. They went back into the kitchen and returned immediately with our meals. They were luke-warm and the fish had a 'hard' top. Not sure if it was under a heat lamp, but definitely had been sitting somewhere for a bit before arriving at our table. Knowing I'm not in the kitchen or do the ordering, here's a few things we noticed about our meal. The side salad was fresh and cold with a couple of green pepper strips, onion, cucumber and dressing served in a plastic container on the side. Nice option. The soup of the day was very much like a condensed version you can buy at the market. The pot roast does not appear to be the type of roast you purchase at the meat counter and throw in the over (or crock pot). It was more like a loaf of meat-pressed together bits. The texture was wrong. The spice on the Cajun salmon had a good level of spice. Mashed potatoes had large chunks of potato and little seasoning. The gravy looks like it comes from a jar. Based on taste and texture, I wouldn't be surprised if the pie came from a box. The drink prices are good, and most of the regulars were sitting at the bar, not eating. There was one large party that was eating so much food! Fish and chips, pasta, soup and way more. So clearly they have their fans. This is a case of know thyself. read more

Easily the worst meal our party of 5 has had in recent memory. 2 of us had the fish and chips and the fish had a very odd unpleasant flavor while the tarter sauce was definitely spoiled . The green beans that came with the lamb dinner were grey and looked and tasted as if they had been on the steam table since yesterday. The mashed potatoes although made from real potatoes were room temperature and cold when the meals arrived at the table. The worst dish we had was the Penne Saute... very overcooked flavorless pasta mixed with what appeared to be a green salad that has been warmed to wilting. It included chunks of broccoli that were vivid yellow because they were clearly already spoiled and well past their serve by day when they were included in the dish. When broccoli is no longer green and has turned yellow it should be thrown out not salvaged to serve to customers. We have been coming to this restaurant for several years and noticed that the parking lot was unusually empty when we arrived today. Now we know why. I attached pictures to their google page of the food we were served to show the sort of quality they are comfortable providing and help others not waste their time or money at this place. I did eat a few bites of the fish before I decided that yes, it was definitely slightly off and that I should not continue eating it . Those few bites may have been enough to make me sick because I am really not feeling well now. If I get food poisoning I will not be surprised. No one at our table was able to actually able to eat the meal they ordered. Across the board they get a D- for no quality control and for salvaging produce and fish that should have been thrown out and not served.. absolutely DISGUSTING meal .. (but is it a meal if you don't actually eat it?) Update; it's 2 am and after a few hours of stomach cramps I have started vomiting. I will be contacting my Dr in the morning to verify food poisoning and pursuing this with the health department. read more

Stopped just to try something new. Well, that was a mistake. Seated promptly and received drinks, as ordered. Which was as it should have been as there were only about 3 other tables with guests at them. After we got our drinks, things went downhill. For starters, we only received 2 sets of silverware for 5 people (one of which included a dirty fork). Given what we ordered, that worked out fine, but that wasn't the point. And we'd have asked the server for more, but she was rarely seen. Ordered 5 meals and an appetizer. 20 minutes later, the 7 chicken wings showed up. They were well cooked and very crispy...however the buffalo flavor was very mild. But that's a preference thing so I understand that. Also, one of little plates for the appetizer was dirty when we received it. Another 15 minutes until our meals showed up. The Reuben sandwich had very little other than corned beef and cheese to flavor it. The 2 kids meals were fine. A grilled chicken sandwich didn't come with the avocado listed on the menu. And the fisherman's platter, while well cooked, was very bland and lacking in portion size for almost $30. The highlight of all 5 meals were the french fries. Very well cooked and very crispy. We have dined here a few times. The service needs major improvement. Tonight was the worst We experienced there. Over a half hour before our drinks were brought to us. Even longer for the appetizer. It was the same for the family sitting behind us. The resteraunt wasn't as busy as it usually is. Our meals came with a salad. They never brought the salads out. We didn't bother mentioning it because we figured that would be another half hour wait. We were really hungry and stopped here after another bike ride on the Airline Trail. I was a bit put off by the tables that hadn't been cleared when we walked in which I find unappetizing however, they were finally cleared after about 10 minutes. My baked stuffed shrimp was good although it's not a dish that's difficult to make and pretty much unscrewupable. DH had the artery clogging dish of steak with bacon and gorgonzola that he said was good. Hank's satisfied the hunger but doubt we'd return. read more

My son went to this establishment and ordered a turkey dinner which was cold in the middle. His girlfriend ordered a BLT bread was hard and bacon was burnt. I called twice and spoke to a Nichole who advised me she was the manager and she tried with me when I called stating my son should have said something then. I'm not sure about anyone else but when you send a meal back who knows what will happen when it comes back. I don't do that. Usually if I have an issue I call the next day. We had dinner at Hanks last evening and it was absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the king cut extra rare prime rib and it is by far the best piece of prime rib I've ever had in my life. The staff is amazing and friendly everyone in the building is committed to customer service and producing a wonderful experience in fine dining. From the fresh and crisp salad with oil and balsamic vinegar to the main course and dessert of butterscotch pudding with whip cream, every bite was absolutely wonderful! Even the bartender came out to make sure that I was happy with my cocktail choice. I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu and the bill was still under $70. If you don't try Hanks, you will miss out. And if you become a regular dinner at Hanks will be something you look forward to. Tell them Bill sent you! read more

Good food. There can be a long wait. But all in all they're pretty decent it's just that you're going to need to have some patience if you go there because they are usually very much packed unless you can by chance find it on like a very quiet day for something like I've even tried going there on a rainy crappy day so that way hoping nobody would be there and it was still mobbed so it's a good place everybody goes that lives around here I wouldn't say trendy or hipster or anything I'll just say a decent place that is around here and that kind of says a lot because a lot of the restaurants around here are slacking big time so this one does it right so everybody goes there the price can go pretty high and again the weight so keep that in mind but to some and most apparently it's worth the wait me personally I don't like the weight but to each their own. read more

Supposedly this is an institution. I've eaten here a couple of times over the years. The dining room is a regular dining room, some nifty art around to look at. The service has always lacked, whether they're busy or not. The food is where Hank's falls flat. My most recent trip we got prime rib with potatoes, and a dining companion got some chicken parmesan on a bed of pasta. Probably a good third of my meat was fat, and the mashed potatoes were gummy. I wasn't able to tell much of a difference between the queen and king cut, so I guess save some money and just go queen. The chicken on pasta was a huge heaping mound of pasta, think an entire box you'd buy at the store, topped with a little chicken. Definitely not balanced, nor was any of it very well done. Restaurant wasn't that busy, several tables cluttered with dirty dishes, waiter running around then eventually got seated. Restaurant was quiet @1pm on a Sunday, couple of grandparents. Waitress came over and took drinks order, no mention of specials and disappeared. Looked for seafood restaurants nearby and thought we'd try here. Seafood platter you could get baked or fried, so healthy choices. Ordered mussels for appetizer, they ended up at the end of the meal because waitress forgot to place order. Had the sesame crusted tuna, came with salad, meh, handful of iceberg, couple cherry tomatoes, couple pieces red onion, nothing special. Tried the clam chowder, meh. Stopped in for lunch and seated ourselves which is what we normally do as we have a favorite booth. We were greeted by our very pleasant server as we walked in the door. As we've been here multiple times the server knew our drink orders and asked if we wanted menus. No need as we knew what we wanted. Ordered the chicken salad wrap with French fries and the Friday fish special of fish and chips with coleslaw, cup of NE clam chowder and three clam fritters. Drinks arrived immediately. Soup and fritters arrived quickly. Chowder was not as thick as some I've had which was a nice change. There were plenty of clam pieces along with chunks of potatoes and onions. The clam fritters were good and on the large side, well fried. Entrees arrived and both were large portions. The chicken wrap was slightly lopsided with most of the chicken in one side of the wrap. But having said that there was plenty of chicken with tomato, lettuce, and cranberries. A very tasty wrap! The French fries were cooked perfectly, nice and crispy and a very large serving. The fish was incredible. Two large pieces of perfectly cooked, flaky fish, guessing haddock, The coating was nice and thin, great crunch, and a nice light golden brown. Under the fish was another large portion of perfectly cooked French fries. Both the fish and fries remained hot and crispy throughout the meal. Tartar sauce and a side of coleslaw were included. We were without most of our family. Everyone was going to our son-in-law's family due to it also being his birthday. Had lunch there recently. Food is below average. Although the server did her best, she was the only one trying to handle the entire bar side of the restaurant. We ordered two beers (in the cans) and a turkey club with sweet potato fries. When the beers were delivered, one was completely warm which I mentioned to the server. Her response was to bring me a cold glass which was not going to do it. I ended up exchanging it for a different brand. The club came and had regular fries instead of the sweet potato ones we ordered. The server went back and asked the kitchen to make the ones we ordered, unfortunately they came out after we were done our sandwich and were undercooked. The club itself was very small and turkey was quite dry. They also put the mayo on the side which is kind of a pain. I hadn't been to this restaurant in a long time and my friend had never been. Driving through Connecticut from out of state we decided to try Hanks. Homerun, excellent service excellent food.

My favorite part about this place was the salad bar. There was a nice selection of toppings with bread, cottage cheese, and some fruit. Fresh veggies, clean bar, and utensils. Our food was pretty good, though I forget what we ordered. We both had some left over to take home for later. If I were going to complain, I'd have to say our service was lacking. Our waitress was very clearly stoned or drunk. We didn't receive our appetizer of shrimp cocktail, nor the 2nd beer that was ordered for my dining partner. We ultimately ended up asking another server to complete our check out and update our check to the proper amount. I'd give this place another shot if I were back in the area. read more
