This place needs a fresh review! Here goes. Been here a few times. In spite of sounding like a beer garden, it is welcoming to all parties from what I have observed. They even had Christmas decor up this last time around. Nice touch! There is a hostess upon entry (typically) who is ready to promptly seat you. Bar, high tops, and standard tables are all available options. I have always felt the service was standard for a relatively busy establishment. Just the right amount of time. They have people working the front of the house, as well as people in the back running food. Efficient! The food has been consistently good. Not outstanding, but nothing to whine about. So hitting back the old town of Putnam been away for years. Town has changed like the introduction of this place. Must say staff very friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to take your order. Although I did not order food, but they have a wide variety of everything. Something that would appeal to anyone and everyone. A bit pricey. So would have given this place 5 stars but the name does not match their offerings. Mine if the beer is brewed on site. Although many local and not so local brews which will delight. Nice place in the growing Putnam downtown. Inside an old railway station, it's decorated with local railroad signs and such. The help staff is great and well attended. They were at our table even with the waitress going on break another came with our main entree. Both were nice and brought us extra napkins and checked in periodically. We had Short Rib Poutain for an appetizer. It was very cheesy and had a good portion of pork and gravy. My wife and I both had fish and chips. The chips here are homemade potato chips and there is so many we left some. Very filling. Third time in five years and gets better. read more

It was the Great Pumpkin fest in Putnam. We knew we wanted to have reservations as we were originally going to be a group of 7 with an infant so I wanted a little reprieve from the 'crowd.' Low and behold the festival was in the parking lot next to the Crossings- super convenient! Also, a live musician was paying right outside the main entrance. Right off the bat-I called days ahead to make a reservation. When I checked in the girl replied with a tude, " I don't know who took your reservation but we don't do that during the day on Saturdays. Let me see if I can seat you." I did not like her response, not the best customer service. We were seated immediately. My husband was not impressed with the beer. My daughter had loaded fries. The fries were left way too long in the over where the cheese was extra crispy but not burnt. My husband and I split a sampler. There was nothing special at all about the wings that were described so wonderfully on the menu it made you excited. Reality hit and no excitement. We also split a blue cheese bacon burger. I have to say, I loved what was happening with the onions. I believe they may have been pickled and the pairing with the blue cheese was good. My husband hated it! I have been here many times, and will be here again. However, I was disappointed when I noticed on the bottom of their menu it said that they charged an extra 2 dollars to split an entree. I understand that prices need to go up, but when you're charging these kind of prices for an entree and have the nerve to charge extra if someone can't afford 2 of them, it's just bad business and bad customer service. So what if 2 people split and entree? Especially when you're f***ing us charging 7 dollars plus on a beer, and you're charging federal hill prices for a dish. This was an absolutely fine neighborhood-style pub, with lots of regulars at the bar, and several tables filled with hungry diners. They have an impressive list of draft beers, and typical pub-grub, made with more care then one might expect. Of note were their Buffalo Hawg Wings...which were tender meaty riblets of pork, tossed in your choice of sauce. I'd make a return trip just for these! read more

The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive, and we got to enjoy some live music which was not too loud which was nice. The restaurant is in an old train station and is really nice! The last time we try this place. We have tried this a couple times and although service was slow and prices seemed a bit high, the atmosphere was decent, good music, etc. however, once again the food was terrible. My wife and I ordered a Cobb salad and taco salad. Both were made with very little lettuce and the lettuce that was present was severely spoiled (brown and slimy). Disgusting. Service was slow too. It says brew pub, but if they brew their own beer, it's still a well kept secret. Nothing was given to us or said to us that indicated they brewed anything which was really disappointing because we were looking for a brewery with food, and this definitely wasn't it. They had a few local beers on tap, but mostly standard fare. The meals were okay. I had a tuna melt that felt like the bread was toasted a week ago. My mouth feels like I just ate a big bowl of Cap'n Crunch, mangled. The tuna salad itself was very good. I could not taste any cheese, but after searching I did see it melted on the bread, it wasn't Swiss and the bread wasn't rye. My husband's Reuben was also not served on rye. He did enjoy it, though. It was properly grilled in a pan and didn't have the same dryness I did. But neither were memorable. Service was slow, but very nice. A little disappointed. We were hoping for more. read more

I had been there before and the food was great but the last time was definitely the last time. The fish was ok, the loaded fries were great, but it was all way over priced and in compared to other local places the servings were underwhelming for the price. What was the real problem was that we sat there for over an hour after getting out sodas, which were finished while still waiting for our waitress to reappear. I asked 2 different runners for my waitress and they both said they would tell her. She wasn't on the floor at all. Come to find out that they have had a change of management (new owner) and that the crappy waitress is one of the owners. No point in complaining. It is sad because I loved that place and it is already going off the rails. I love that it is right on the train tracks, I'm a hardcore train fan. The food and service is consistent here. The portions are pretty substantial, and leaving you wondering if you can finish your meal, or get the rest to go. Started off with an underwhelming beer(Amber Ale) very flat an odd taste. Not sure what kind of brew system they are using but missing the mark when it comes to craft beer. Then ordered the classic 1/4 lb burger. When I got it, it's like "where's the beef"! Most 1/4 are flat thin cover the whole bun not this one. It was like having a slider pattie on a regular size bun. When I walked in it was just me and my son and the hostess was really friendly and immediately acknowledged my son which was awesome because I was afraid it wasn't going to be a family friendly restaurant (bc it was a micro brewery) but it def was. I also noticed the patrons were especially sweet to my son, always going out of their way to say hi! So the waitress seated the party of 4 adults and 1 child indoors but once my son saw the train track outside we had to switch. One waitress got really frazzled and a little rude when I asked her if we could sit out here she said the hostess needed to seat us, I told her the hostess had sat us and told us if we wanted to move outside we could. When it came to ordering the Menu was weird. It didn't appear to have that many things that interested me personally... I also discovered that It just didn't flow- it was all random food items from sirloin steaks to Asian salads & spinach quesadillas. This restaurant needs Jon Taffer because it appears to have an Identity Crisis? Is it a micro-brewery? A tavern? A sandwich spot? A train crossing restaurant?? TO me that should be the whole concept and you can BUILD ON it. My son was disappointed because NOBODY in the establishment knew when a train was coming and unfortunately we never got to see a Train the whole time we were there but it was still fun yet suspenseful waiting for the train and what not! THE WAIT FOR THE FOOD HAD TO BE A MINIMUM OF 45 minutes! The waitress was friendly and to the point- I ordered a Reuben with sweet potato fries & no saurkraut on the Reuben but it came out with it anyway) yet I gotta say my meal was DELICIOUS for a sandwich. My son ordered a $5 pizza from the kids menu and not only was it LARGE but it was also wicked good. Two of the adults I was with ordered the sirloin and said it was surprisingly good and another adult ordered the monkfish and said it was good. They were all surprisingly pleased with their meal. Thankfully it was good because a 45 MINUTE wait with a toddler feels like a LIFETIME. The service needs a bit of work- the hostess was amazing but the rude server was off putting and although our waitress was sweet she wasn't that attentive- she never apologized for the wait, she never came around for refills, or to even check on our meal, and it took forever to bring the check over when we were all set. All in All I really wanted to give 4 stars because this place has a TON OF POTENTIAL. Right as we were leaving they turned the cute outdoor lights on and it just looks really nice. Fast forward from last review: The menu has changed up, which is a good thing. Seems like better choices, and the descriptions makes them sound delicious. This was a mid week lunchtime visit. We were seated, and waited a little less than 5 mins. for a waitress but it looked like we walked it at the beginning of the peak. Like I mentioned, the change of menu items was great, and made it hard to choose if you don't have a particular item in mind. Between the 3 of us, we'd started with a fried mushrooms on the daily special list. They came to the table hot. Tasted very good, and maybe it should be a standard menu item. Entrees included the breakfast burger, another menu burger and the French dip sandwich. Burgers were cooked perfectly, as requested and all juicy and not dry. The fries and house chips are both good, and you can't go wrong with either one. We passed on desserts. In a nutshell between the menu revamp, food quality, and ambiance the Crossings is a good choice for average American cuisine. read more

I stopped here for lunch on a Friday afternoon for two. There was inside and outdoor seating and all the tables well spaced. They even gave sanitizer for everyone that sat down. They had a good sized lunch menu with lots of sandwiches and salads. We got a veggie wrap and a honey mustard chicken wrap. We also paid an extra $1 for coleslaw instead of chips. The food was really good and seemed to be quality ingredients. The waitress was quick to check on us and also friendly. I'd say that for the price I'd expect the coleslaw to be added in rather than an extra $1, but it was still good. I'd recommend a visit in! read more

I took the wife on a motorcycle ride to eastern Connecticut on a picture-perfect Sunday. We passed through towns including Sterling, Plainfield, Killingly and finally ended up in Putnam around 3:30 p.m., at which point, I was starved. We saw three restaurants on Main Street with outdoor tables, and the restaurant I happened to park my bike closest to was The Crossings, so I looked it up on Yelp, and, after seeing a 3-star overall average rating, I debated whether I wanted to eat there. Ultimately, we decided to give it a chance (3 stars is decent, right?), and we were glad we did, because this place exceeded our expectations in both food and service! The building used to be a railroad station, although not a very picturesque one, at least on the outside. Inside, however, the place has more charm. No hostess was available when we walked inside, but a bartender greeted us right away and told us to seat wherever we wanted. We chose to eat at the outdoor patio, which was adjacent to the railroad tracks. It was a very relaxing space, with ceiling fans and mellow music playing at just the right volume. My wife enjoyed the view from the patio, saying it reminded her of West Virginia, where she grew up. Although our waitress was young (as were all the staff), she was very professional and attentive. My wife started with a margarita, which she reported was very good; she was even more impressed with their iced tea, which was so good that she didn't have to add sugar, and was "the best iced tea I've ever had in a restaurant up North." I'm not even an iced tea drinker, but I tasted it and even I thought it was perfect. Since I was riding, my drinks of choice were Sprite and ice water. Our waitress was on top of our drink refills, which was good, since I was thirsty from riding in mid-80s weather. I was going to order a hamburger, but the wife (who ordered nachos) suggested I get their French dip sandwich, so I did. Both of us were blown away at how good it was. The roll or bun was perfectly toasted, and the wife, who took a few bites of my sandwich, observed that the roll was not soggy. Aus jus was on point. As for the beef, it was flavorful and tender, and the horseradish sour cream was a creative touch that worked well. Even the fries were delicious, and seasoned well enough that ketchup could have been optional. As if to confirm that we made a good choice, I overheard another diner say that the French dip was a good choice here. Indeed! My wife enjoyed her nachos, although she said next time, she will get the French dip. Our waitress paced the meal perfectly. When we received the bill, we were even more pleasantly surprised at what a great value we received: the French dip; nachos; a premium margarita; iced teas; and sodas, totaled a mere $34! The bathroom was clean, and, we were greeted on our way out as well. It was the highlight of our Father's Day motorcycle ride, and now we have a reason to visit Putnam, CT again! Don't come here on a Friday night if you want to get your food or check in a timely manner. The place was absolutely packed, and it took forever to get our food. The check took at least ten minutes, after we let our waitress know that we were ready to go. The food itself was decent. I got a rack of ribs with french fries as a side. I went here with my mom and boyfriend. We got their loaded chips which were delicious. I got a great Turkey burger which had bacon and maple inside the meat which normally comes with homemade chips but subbed for crispy Brussels. Normally i loveee crispy Brussels but they were pretty plain. My mom got the fish and chips Panko battered & it was amazing! It's a little expensive but you get what you pay for I think! read more

We visit Putnam once a month generally on business and while there have made this our favorite lunch stop. Upon entering the signage is always gently humorous which I think is great. The staff is always genuinely helpful and courteous. We've enjoyed each and every meal we've had. Tuna melt, fish sandwich, fried green beans( I love) crunchy Brussels sprouts ( could be a little crispier) though so tasty and the nachos all very good. Ample servings ( I always have leftovers). We've yet to enjoy the desserts which looked divine (served next table over) we are always so full there's never room for dessert. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! My husband and I do our very best to support local businesses especially restaurants. We tip our waitresses very generously and are very appreciative for their service. This place was awful. Our waitress was too busy taking shots at the bar to wait on us. More than half of the staff that were in the main restaurant weren't wearing their masks appropriately or even at all. And the kicker is when the door to the kitchen opened I did not see one person wearing a mask. I would never eat here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The food and the ambiance are great. The service was completely sub-standard. Not because our sever didn't try, but the dining room was full and she was the lone server, bartender and bussing tables. The waitress was very nice. Too bad the food was only mediocre. My chicken parmigiana was burnt and they just put more cheese on it to try and cover it up. The servings are very small and all you get with it is a well done almost burnt piece of garlic bread. Definitely not worth the price. so disappointed. I do not recommend this restaurant.
