The "AFTER" shot. It was so delicious I couldn't wait
David E.

Fantastic find! Thank you Interweb Goddess of Eats for leading me to this spot! Was craving Mexican while on road doing school assemblies in CT. Their menu is very good. WINGS. Ordered 6 as a guilty appetizer. Came exactly as hoped for with extra crunch. Buffalo Garlic very nicely proportionate and zingy. Fresh celery/carrots too. The Birrira Taxo special as good as I've had. Generous and flavorful portion of meat, tacos were fresh homemade. Served was extra warm, cheerful and helpful. Extra shout out to her serving "the moon" booth. Don't pass this gem up.

Overall fine experience but I need to average it out at 3 due to the highs and lows. For starters let's be clear, it is not solely a Mexican restaurant. It's more of a bar and grill that specializes in Mexican. They also have burgers, pizza, and pasta for the non Mexican food eaters. I have mixed feelings on the food. The chimichanga was one of the best I've ever had. It was so unique and flavorful. I loved it. Unfortunately the sides were all just average. The rice and beans were bland and the chips tasted average. The margaritas were below average. They were very sour and not strong at all. The presentation however was very nice. I loved the cute little mugs!! The service time was average but the people were super sweet!! They were all very nice and accommodating. The ambiance was also average. The restaurant side was very bland with minimal artwork or anything. The bar side, however, had nice art and twinkle lights that were very pretty. Their biggest pro was the price. They were super inexpensive and you get a lot for the price. I loved that! Overall I would come back, but would probably try some other places first. They have a lot of potential!!

This is the lobster taco

Last night my daughter took me here for my birthday. It started off great, waitress was nice, we ordered our food and one of the specials was crunchy lobster taco. You get two for $16 . Thought I would try it. Well I get my plate and it's almost like nothing just the two tacos and the lobster meat was deep fried to make it crunchy 4 small burnt looking pieces and tasted like burnt grease. I said something to the waitress and she had the manager come over. He came over with a huge attitude. Maybe insulted someone didn't like something I don't know. He was rude I explained this was my first time here and it's my bday dinner and that this was almost nothing for the price. He didn't seem happy and did nothing . It's not like everything else was not good because it was. My daughter's food was good I ended up eating some of that. But soon as we made the complaint even the waitress didn't come back as much all 3 of us sat there with empty cups for a while. Finally got another drink and this time it was made with less things in it then the last time. I work right near here as an emt and I definitely would buy lunch or dinner from there while working but the managers attitude towards me definitely made me think twice before ever giving him my money again.

Delicious Shrimp Fajitas

We were looking for a place to stop on our trip home and saw a review of this little place online. Definitely a neighborhood type place - bar was quite full. Everything down to the side of mexican rice was delicious. Shrimp were jumbo size and cooked perfectly in my husband's fajita. Enjoyed the chicken enchilada which was GF. Daughter enjoyed the pastor taco. Will definitely come again if we are in the area.

Wings and pizza. So yummy!

Food was good, small and cozy, friendly staff. I'm not big on that kind of food and I thought it was delicious. Fish tacos were my favorite.

Pastrami Ruben. Meat was dried up. Ate half of it before I realized the meat was off. Spent the next day sick as a dog. Never again.

Staff was friendly. Enchiladas were disgusting. Chimichanga left a lot to be desired. Refried beans were definitely from a can.

I would say the volume of the music was one or two notches too loud. Since it was opening, I was seated immediately. Looking around, I'd think there are maybe one or two too many tables of it got really busy, as they're fairly close together and I could see it creating a labyrinth if they all had people sitting at them. The lunch menu had a good range of options, so I would think a range of people would feel comfortable eating here. The chips and salsa, birria tacos, and fish tacos were ordered. I enjoyed the salsas, neither was too spicy and the rojo had a pleasant smoke in it. The birria tacos were alright, I may order them again, though maybe the white onions on the side to control the abundance of them. The fish tacos were bland. I really thought a lime to squeeze, maybe some extra of the aioli, or even some salt. I also paid extra for some beans and rice and felt that was not necessary in the future. Overall this is a solid choice for Mexican dining in the Norwich area, as it brings some different choices and perspectives you don't find at the other restaurants. I recommend a visit.

The waitress was wonderful and fairly knowledgeable about the foods and if she didn't know the answer to a question she went and got an answer. I had the Pineapple Cluck Tacos. They were very good. The Chutney sauce had a little too much spice. I understand the fusion process but still there was too much nutmeg. My grandson had the romaine noodle bowl. He loved it. The sauce was very spicy and hid some of the flavors of the other ingredients but was still something he would definitely order again. My son in law got the chicken mole. He enjoyed it but felt it would be much more flavorful with meat without a bone. (He is a head chef at a major restaurant). He said that they still need to soften up some of the spices. So it is a new place and just opened I am betting the longer they are in business the better the food will become. We will definitely be back. Oh and they make the best coconut margaritas. Deserts were great. Must stop in and try this place.the Yucca Fries were amazingly good.

La Casa Mexicana!…read more After craving Mexican for so long I was pleased to find this highly rated restaurant after our movie. My best friend has been here before so I was happy to know that it was going to be good. They have a variety of drinks and cocktails. We both ordered Margaritas which were delicious. They give you chips and salsa at no charge to start. The salsa was probably the best I've had. Plus the bartenders were so friendly and talented. I ordered chicken quesadillas and my friend had tacos. Everything was so good and filling I brought home leftovers which my hubby was very excited. I know I will be back for sure! I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area!

The staff were attentive and more than happy to bring out more chips when we finished the first plate. They were very nice folks. I would say their menu is pretty vast, but you really cant go wrong with the basics. I ended up getting their Arrera de Campo, and wow. I wasn't expecting the portions to be so generous. One entree can easily feed 2-3 people. Overall, it tasted like a 4/5. The steak and side cheese quesadillas were very filling & delicious! It really didn't need the additional oiliness from the refried beans. But overall, a solid dish. Would definitely recommend checking out Mezquite if you're in the area.

Tacos La Rosa in Willimantic has been on my Try List for years. So long -- I don't remember how…read moremany years. A while ago, I had seen TLR listed as a best taco in CT contender on one or more internet and/or media lists. An interesting thing happened in all those years. More and more authentic taquerias started opening in CT. Also, Willimantic itself became a known hot spot for tacos and Mexican food in general. So much so, that people would say "I have a taco spot for you in Willimantic." I was ready for them to say Tacos La Rosa, and sometimes, it would be a different place. I recently started a deep dive on the Willimantic taco scene. I'm not finished yet, but I can say the following based upon my extensive taqueria visits across CT in the past few years. Tacos La Rosa, makes a traditional style taco, and TLR is in the top tier of CT authentic taquerias. As you stand in the TLR parking lot, you can see the buildings of Eastern Connecticut State University. Inside, if you took all of the Mexican decor away, the restaurant sort of looks like an old school pizza joint. There's a black and white checkered floor. Brick walls. Open kitchen. Solid tan tables that are bolted to the floor or wall, and red benches snuggly positioned on both sides. I ordered three tacos at the Counter. Pastor. Bistec. And Chorizo con jalapeno. The person who helped me spoke very good English, but I'm not sure that we perfectly understood each other. He asked me if I wanted everything on the tacos. I wasn't sure what that meant, but I have a rule, that if a place asks me if I want everything, I say yes because I assume that's how they intend it. So the tacos each came with avocado, lettuce, queso fresco, tomato, cilantro and onion. Red salsa, lime and green salsa came on the side. Each taco had a substantial house made corn tortilla that held its structure despite all the filling. The tortilla was a cut or two above average. The pastor and the chorizo were about as good as you'll find in CT. The Bistec was pretty good, but didn't stand out. The chorizo had a sliced or chopped sort of texture rather than the crumbled chorizo you sometimes see. It was flavorful and manageably spicy. The pastor consisted of tender, saucy-red pork chunks. They tasted great. There were no pineapple chunks like you often get. I'm not sure that the toppings brought anything to the pastor, but they worked nicely for the chorizo and Bistec. The salsas were authentic and spicy. Throughout my time in Willimantic, I observed a robust Mexican population that was supporting these authentic Mexican restaurants. This was definitely the case at Tacos La Rosa. I'm glad I finally made it to Tacos La Rosa and I'm happy to see that their outstanding reputation is deserved. 4.5 Stars

The price of an individual taco has increased to $5.99 which seemed a bit high so we decided to share an al pastor burrito that was jam packed with ingredients, flavor and a bit of heat.
