Clean beer lines and taps, nice craft beer lineup, good food, great employees. I've quietly watched and listened for the last year, amazing what you see and hear, facts on which to base such a poor review. The owners are from here, we are not, and oh how they gossip, judge, and treat disabled people poorly. Recently we visited on a busy weekend night and watched as the owners literally pointed people out and gossiped among themselves, a visibly disabled man who walks with a cane deserves better. One of the owners served us and rudely slopped our food out to us, even burned my wife with the pizza pan. We got the message, I've easily spent $2000 over the past year, I won't spend another dime. Stopped for dinner after a day on the Manistee River Trail. The place was packed except for the table they reserve for a 6-top...even with a waiting line the entire time we were there, that spot was empty. Service was good, even though they were busy, it wasn't slow. The dinner was excellent. Both the hubby and I had the steak sizzler and they were done perfectly. Serving sizes were good, and the food was flavorful. They even had a homemade cake for dessert that looked amazing (we were too full to take part in that!) The place was very clean! Good Bëer selection including my favorite - bells Oberon. The menu is a little small , heard the burgers are great but I didn't get one. Got the siracha wings which were tasty as was the Mac and cheese bites . The bites were a basic deep friend pre made frozen bag item . My friend got the chicken tenders which were basic frozen Purdue tenders and Fries. Nothing special about those. Overall service was above average however prices were a little high for what was ordered. I saw they offered some dinners and higher end items that may be tasty. This place used to have really good wings. The smokey sriracha sauce was great. Now they give you a box of broasted wings and a cup of sauce. DIY. How lazy is this? Not the same quality AT ALL. We stopped in a whim for some lunch on the way to kayak, and the reviews looked good. We tried the stuffed tater tots that some of the reviewers mentioned. They were AMAZING! The food was really good too! Make sure you are hungry when you come because the portion sizes are massive! My salad came with an entire steak, and the kids portions were huge, too! A full box of Mac and cheese, an adult sized hamburger, and at least an apple and a half, per kid. Well worth it. I'm sure we will stop in again! read more

They have a good duck appetizer with Asian Zing! I enjoyed that very much! Waitress was friendly. However they freeze their burgers and so they do not cook them to order since they have to make sure it's no longer frozen inside. Restaurants really should have fresh food and not frozen! read more

Everything was prepared and cook perfectly! Unfortunately the packaging for takeout is all wrong. I ordered all fried food and it came in closed containers without ventilation. My fries, onion rings and wings (my whole order) were soggy due to improper packaging. I had picked up this order earlier than the time given for pick up as well. Everything tastes great and was cook as ordered. But the packaging destroyed the experience. The fried chicken should not come in a box (that has appropriate ventilation) and a bag (that blocks said ventilation). I love the good! We had a party of 4 and it was our first time eating there. Our waitress was really friendly. We ordered the Mac and cheese bites and they came out really fast but they were cold in the middle. We got our food after about an hour wait and all the fries were under cooked. They barely even had a crisp to them. I got a steak and everyone else got burgers which was all super good. It was a Friday and they were pretty busy so I understand the kitchen being backed up. Overall, I'll give it another try but maybe on a different day of the week. read more

Stopped in because of a local discount promotion and had never been there before. Greeted by a friendly staff and we sat at the bar and AJ waited on us and she was very informative and helpful. Drinks were a good pour and jack and coke was $4 which is reasonable. We had their broasted chicken both garlic and Asian style. Both dinners come with a large salad and choice of baby Baker's french fries garlic mashed potatoes. We shared one salad because they were so large and took the other one home but dinners were very tasty the chicken is marinated so it's highly seasoned a little salty for myself. The decor is quaint they should get rid of the fluorescent lighting as it changes the ambience of your dining experience and the glare from one of the lights interferes with one of their many TVs. The four piece broasted chicken was reasonably priced at $9.89 and most of the items on their menu are reasonably priced. We would go back and try them again. read more

NOT kid friendly as the info says on Yelp. An older waitress there was so rude I would never come back. In the couple dozen times going out to dinner with kids I have never felt so unwelcome. This place won't knock your socks off or anything, but considering it's one of the few restaurants directly in close proximity to Bear Lake, it's a solid choice for any vacation or cottage visitors, some food options here are better than others, I'd say their pizza is probably my favorite on the menu. Any sandwiches here are a safe bet too, the steak looked a little tough I'd probably avoid that choice. They have live music on weekends too, service can be hit or miss. My wife and I were in Grill 44 on 3-25-21 at 1200 hrs. We watched a patron go to the kitchen and request that his soup be brought to the table before the meal. The poor guy was belittled by a raspy voiced female in the kitchen. She told him that he would get the soup when he gets it and that he was not special! She stated that they had nine tickets and they had no idea which one was his! A male voice then stated to the elderly patron that if he wanted to come back here and cook he was welcome to. The patron went back to his table but you could still hear the two staff in the kitchen vulgarly making fun of the patron. It was so bad that the girl waitressing was going around apologizing to patrons! We got our bill for a couple of drinks and left! My wife tipped the waitress more than the cost of our drinks because she was the only professional person on site. We took our business elsewhere! read more

Stopped by on a Friday night for the Fish Fry day. Note this does not mean all you can eat! First time eating here and place was packed for hours. Between 430-8pm, drove by 4 times (business to do in the area). Plenty of parking though, next to and behind the building. Parking lot neat and clean. Outside patio seating (saw a dog or two), about a 10-seater bar, and indoor seating of course. Restroom (ladies) very nice smelled good too haha. Credit cards accepted. Was hard to determine who was doing the seating when we walked in we were a bit perplexed on who to ask for direction. Bartendress watched us searching but didn't make a suggestion. . No sign saying "please wait to be seated" but suddenly greeted by a man that seemed to have ownership relationship and he was friendly and helpful. We sat outside and listened to live singer/guitar mediocre but fun guy. Sat near some local folks who swore all the food was great but jokes that "this was the only place in town to eat" which seemed quite true at quick glance!! Menu varied with typical bar fare and some unusual Choices such as duck tenders, Broasted chicken wings, fried asparagus, cheese sticks, smoked salmon dip on the appetizer list. Variety of salads (7?). Great burger selection. Impressive entree menu with 1 side, salad/slaw, dinner roll. Fish selection solid with perch, cod, walleye, pollack. Fresh breaded on all. Pasta entrees. Home cooked variety type entrees. Ordered fried perch dinner with garlic mash & salad. Ordered Alaskan Cod with a baked potato and they were out of BOTH. Was nice that waitress carried handheld tablet that must have showed inventory on the spot. She informed me of the "outage" and I chose walleye instead and chuckled that I should get it for the price of the cod that I ordered ($4 more for walleye)....she just laughed and I didn't get taken up on the offer. It took her 12 mins to bring our beginning salad. Nothing special, pre-packed dressing in little cups on side. But seemed fresh. Perch arrived with 5 small pieces for $17 was bit disappointed in dinner size. Walleye arrived with two large fillets $17 worth the quantity. Fish was delicious would get either one again based on taste, not cost, in a heartbeat. Dinner rolls yummy. BUT our entree took 41 minutes to arrive. Almost got up and left as no one stopped by to explain reasons. Wait seemed excessive for fried fish on a night they promote it and should be prepared for it...hmmm... ran out of one type fish and bake potatoes, several different servers brought pieces of meal (salad, entree, water) constant apologies from waitress (Veronica) about delays and "thanks for your patience" but it was taking everything to not tell her it wasn't going "great" service wise. No refills on water, had to ask another server for lemon wedges for fish. The apparent inefficiency of seating, staffing, flow, etc would NOT make us inclined to return. The fun music, great drink/cocktail prices although we didn't have any ($4-$7) and the excellent fish would make us return if we are again in the area. Two meals, two waters, tip of $6 (didn't want to leave anything honestly hope the floor splits the tip pot and end shift) out the door $42.50. read more

Had a 15% off ticket and they couldn't figure out how to take that off the bill. I only give it a 3 star because of the food, would have been much lower otherwise. Our local "go-to" place, we frequently bring visitors for the great food, friendly staff, and the true "Up_North atmosphere. Our favorite has been the Equator Burger, however the Prime Rib Enchilada runs a close second. The Portabella 'burger' received thumbs up from vegetarian friends, and the fish gets raves as well. Summer, especially on Fish Fry Fridays can be busy so expect to sit and relax for a bit, enjoy one of their many beer choices, watch sports on one of the TVs, or play with the free Wi-Fi. First time there was a great experience. Very friendly staff and great service. Our party got the prime rib, chicken strips, pulled pork, and northern club sandwich. All of the entrees were great. We left very satisfied. If you are a craft beer fan you will love this place too. Had a great variety of Michigan brews. This is our place to go when we come back to the Bear Lake area. read more
