1/2 Chicken Only Dark Meat, Rice & Beans, Coleslaw
    Carroll N.

11/13/21 Stopped in to have lunch and catch up with a friend. We split 1/2 Chicken entree which comes with 2 sides. We chose the coleslaw and rice & beans. Everything was delish. I was also pleased with the customer service. We sat at a table by the door to be away from the other patrons. I noticed that the chairs were dusty and asked the staff member if he could give me a few paper towels to wipe them off and he said he would come over to clean them. I like that they offer other items that other Peruvian restaurants don't offer like empanadas and taquitos. I would like to try those at my next visit.

In support of Latinx Heritage month, I decided to try this place & my tummy was haaapppyyy !! Pollo a la Brasa - Peruvian grilled chicken is their specialty and IT IS REALLY GOOD !!! I had the half chicken with rice and fried plantains ( each entree comes with 2 sides) . The plantains weren't among the meal sides ( supposed to be an extra charge) but the gentleman that took my order graciously gave it to me when I asked for them . Also included a drink - soda or bottled water , all for under $12. The chicken was moist & delicious, the rice fluffy and tasty & the plantains , oh so sweet and yummy! I'll definitely go back & try those yucca fries - I hear they're the bomb

I've had this place bookmarked for quite a while, but hadn't gotten around to trying it. Today was the day! Monthly lunch with friend and my turn to pick the spot. Turns out it's 5 minutes from their home and they have eaten here many times. :) Lots of free parking in this shopping center. Easy entrance/exit, too. We arrived at about 11:40 and there was nobody inside except staff. The place is sparkling clean and the menu extensive! We both agreed we'll come back another time and try some different Peruvian specialties. But for today, I have been wanting a traditional 1/4 dark chicken, rice & beans, and coleslaw. This meal (entrée + two sides) includes a drink, for $10.60 with tax. We were out of there in 5 minutes - no kidding! and took our food to my friend's house to eat. Bonus for fast service! First, the chicken. Ohhhhh my. Melt-in-your-mouth tender, and that distinctive spice mix that says pollo a la brasa. I could have eaten a whole chicken! But I know better ... lol Coleslaw: exactly the right mix of sweet and tangy for me. Some folks don't like sweet at all, so you should know, it is a little sweet. But crispy and not at all droopy. Rice and beans: these are mixed together and it's brilliant. The black beans are cooked just enough to not be mushy, and the "sauce" from them has a hint of spice that melds beautifully with the vaguely saffron rice. Sauces: ah, here's a thing. The yellow sauce was perfect. The green sauce was FIERY. I found a good recipe for "authentic" Peruvian green sauce and have been making it at home for over a year. But truth to tell, I grow my own jalapeños and none of them were super hot. Both of us were a bit surprised at how hot the sauce was. It was just over the edge for me, and we added a little mayo (how many of you know it's made with mayo? lol) which brought it down to tasty level. It's really one of the best Peruvian chicken places in the whole area, and I will definitely be back!

TIP: Don't sleep on this Peruvian spot! I love Peruvian food and when I found this gem I was elated with joy. As I got out of my car the awesome gentleman that manages the the joint opened the door waited for us with a warm welcome. ORDER: * Lomo Saltado* My go to beef steak seasoned and grilled to perfection. It comes with a fried egg (yum!), rice, sautéed onions and fries! Don't forget the sauce with every bite! * 1/4 Chicken (Dark meat) * Roasted chicken with Peruvian rice and plantains. You can't go wrong with chicken. The chicken selection can be dark or white. I tend to go with dark meat because it's juicier. If you're in a health kick, go with the white meat. You have sauce, rice and plantains that pair well with either chicken of your choice. SIDES: * Yuca * The yuca was plentiful and delicious SERVICE: Excellent service - makes you feel at home LOCATION/FACILITY: Hickory Ridge Village Center in Columbia not far from Highway 29 PARKING: Parking lot SEATING: Indoor PAYMENT METHOD: Cash; card [May 2021] Due to the current pandemic; masks are required upon entry and there are social distance seating. SUMMARY: As I sat in the restaurant I observed the guy greet and chat with every customer that came in. They we're definitely regulars which is a testament of a place that is loved. The food was great and satisfying. I plan on coming back and enjoying the food and good customer service. The gentleman also gave me a tip on ordering ahead before I left. Great guy! The menu has a ton of options: Chicken Specialties entrees such as Arroz Con Pollo Soup Salads Burritos and Tacos Sandwiches Fish Special choices such as Nachos Dessert There are family platters, combos, sides if you're wanting to try different items and they have party specials!

Fried Red Snapper Fish and Plantains

I really, really wanted some fried fish. Not the "fried fish" you would find in fish and chips but some seriously "fried hard seasoned fish." If you know, you know. Everything is made to order so highly recommend placing your order and then picking it up. There is a small eating area (probably 4-6 tables) but it just didn't seem like a hangout and eat sort of place? Fish was okay. Fried but didn't quite hit the mark. It may have been better if I used one of the sauces but I feel like if you flavor it properly the first time, it should be good enough without sauces? The red snapper comes with two sides. I chose Plantains and that cost $1 more each. The total price was about $20 which I thought was way too high.

I hope they don't get all up in my Grille about this, but I was very disappointed, and not just by the spealing. As I say - Very disappointing experience. The server was very unfriendly and told me I'd have to come back in half an hour if I wanted chicken (I mean, chicken is all they are known for, so)... it's just no way to run the business. If you're not making enough chicken to serve, then don't have all the signs outside saying come in and get the chicken and so on. It's literally the only chicken shop I've been to in all of the DC and Baltimore areas where they haven't had any chicken, it's also pricier than most with less friendly service than most, and I've even arrived at some close to closing time and this was right at lunch time. So because of the nasty service and because so many of these good reviews sound fishy, I'm giving them a poor review and rating. Wasted a bunch of my day because it was well out of my way.

Great food and great service. Small dining area in a shopping strip. We stopped here after a soccer game and would return if we lived in the area. Good lunch specials even on the weekends!

Excellent Empanadas! Filled my craving for an empanada. It was stuffed with delicious chicken & rice. Recommended.

Lunch Special! Half grilled chicken with fried rice
    Anthony S.

This meal came at a great time because I was dieting and today was the only day of the diet I could eat meat and grilled chicken was the only option. I order the half chicken lunch special and was not dissatisfied. The chicken was grilled to perfection and so flavorful. I didn't care for the rice as it wasn't seasoned well and was a little dry. The chicken made up for being moist and full of great seasoning. I just wish the rice tasted better and wasn't so dry. I guess try another side next time. The location is great for the area I work in because it's only a 5 minute drive from either direction. It's not a big restaurant but there is seating, enough for maybe 2-3 groups of 4. The young man working behind the counter is very upbeat and does his best getting the orders out fast.

Grille Chick'n Pollo was exactly what my cousin and I needed. I got the chicken chimichanga with beans and rice. The food was smelling heavenly in my car but I wasn't going to be biased because of a rattling stomach. So once I got home I chugged 2 big glasses of water to settle my stomach and neutralize my pallet before I dug in. The guy at the counter was really friendly and was joking around with us. It's nice to see people still able to have joy since 2020 has tried its absolute best to strip that from us at every turn. The food portions are generous and there are a range of items on the menu. Normally when I get Peruvian food I always opt for the chicken and sides but this time I dared to be different and I'm glad I did. I can't wait to come back and try the house staple chicken. Keep up the good wild guys!!!

So I've been going to Chick'N Pollo for years every since they first open and it's always been the best chicken and never a disappointment. I moved away in 2014 and recently went back because I was craving the best, and I walked in and the owner happened on remember me. He's a great guy and treats his customers like they are at home. Always makes you feel welcome. So I ordered my go to and that's the chimichanga and it was delicious, just how I remembered it. It came with two sides so I chose fries and rice. So amazing. This place is absolutely amazing and I'm glad to see everything is still the same and the food is still delicious... thank you

On Friday, 8/11, while still in a hotel (due to the apartment fire) in the Columbia area, I searched for Peruvian chicken and discovered this place in the Hickory Ridge neighborhood of Columbia. I was familiar with many parts of Columbia since I had worked there, but Hickory Ridge was an area I didn't really know. I parked on the wrong side of the shopping center. It's on the opposite side of Giant, but it wasn't too big of a deal since it's a small walkway to get to the other side of the center. When I arrived, I got quarter chicken with plantains and beans & rice. The cashier was a tall Asian guy who was very friendly. He commented on my ASU T-shirt I was wearing saying go Sun Devils! I was surprised, but I said he was from California and went to UCLA. We had a nice conversation. I asked about the rice & beans and asked if they put more rice than beans because I don't want it to be like 90% rice. He said no, it's not like that and he would give me extra beans. This was great customer service. He continued talking to me while I was waiting for my food. I gave me extra napkins since I had told me about being displaced from my apartment fire on 8/5. It was unfortunate that I was like the only customer in there. Hoping that this Yelp review will boost the business. I took the food back to the hotel. The plaintains, beans & rice, & Peruvian chicken were ALL excellent. Sometimes it's just one or two out of the three items which are good, but when ALL 3 are, you know you have a winner. Yes, there were a ton of beans (almost too many, but I was hungry & ate everything). As for the Peruvian chicken, it was probably the third best I've had in the DC (& Baltimore) area. Actually, this is the first Peruvian chicken I've had in the Baltimore area. I've had it mostly in Montgomery, Fairfax, & PG County. Since the hotel stay continued for a longer period, I returned on Sunday night, 8/20. This was my last dinner before the Solar Eclipse across America, and what a great dinner to end the dry spells of solar eclipses in the US. I was hoping the same cashier was there, but it was someone else. He was friendly, but didn't keep any conversation going either. I got the same items, but didn't ask for extra beans. There were still plenty of beans in my beans & rice. If I'm back near that area of Columbia wanting to eat, I will return.

Food: I am telling you know, I find the best food places when it's on the spot! I was at the hospital all morning and I was STARVING. I was tired of hospital food so I went looking for a close place to grab lunch. It was then that I found this amazing Peruvian chicken place. I ordered the quarter dark Peruvian chicken with rice and fries. That chicken was seasoned to perfection. I ate everything off my plate. I have never had Peruvian Chicken before and this is a high standard to beat. My whole meal was also like $8!!!! That kinda quality food for that cheap?! It must be a dream. I cannot wait to come back here! Service: the place has counter service and the man at the register was very nice. No complaints! Other: I love the bright colors of the place! The giant Machu picchu photo is a nice decorative touch.

Some restaurants will make theirs chunky which ruins it for me but I enjoyed the thin sauce they had. Bean and cheese was great. I did not get much flavor from the Loroco but I am not en expert on that taste and overall it was a solid cheese papusa. *Chilaquiles These were bangin!! The fried tortilla was thick and crispy! The flavor of lime was heavy which I love and the egg was fried hard which I personally prefer to the runny. The crema was flavorful and creamy. The beans were flavorful. And *Baleadas Chicken "Fresh flour tortilla, scrambled eggs, fresh cheese, sour cream, refried beans and avocado"- because we were so full, we got this to go and ate it at home. This was really tasty, seasoned very well and a great option for those who don't like corn tortillas. We're planning on getting this next time we go to the nursery down the road! Service was friendly, attentive and quick! A really sweet girl helped us out I didn't catch her name but she offered to give us table service opposed to the pay-at-the-counter service. The inside of the cafe style restaurant was a true urban Latin style vibe cage and the mural of the blue waters was pretty. My critique is that the hallway near the bathroom could use a little livening up and maybe a repaint as there was lots of black marks on the door/walls which made it feel less welcoming/ unkept. The bathroom itself was clean and well kept as it was just a single stall.

It was easy to order, hooray for pictures, if you want to pick something else. My goddaughters love the pupusas here too! They were here a few days ago and brought us some home, hot and fresh! That's what sent me down memory lane! Foodie cravings of crunchy savory porky perfection and the yucca fries that are always golden and crunchy on the outside and pillowy inside. The salad is on point and elevates the dish to be a little lighter and adds the crispy vinegary element that helps reset the pallet. And of course, I had to order decadent sweet plantains... my guilty pleasure. Did I mention this was at 9:00 am! There's literally school buses still out! But if I didn't eat it all, because of how generous the portions are, I can air fry all these Foodie treasures back to their best texture and temperature.
