    We went on a Sunday night - which of course happens to be super packed. I got lucky because when I asked for a table for 2 - there was one right by the kitchen. The only reason I took off a point was because it did take some time for our waitress to come to our table. She came after 10 minutes. It also isn't super big, so it can get loud in there. I didn't feel like I could hear that well nor could she hear us. It also took us a while to get the check. The food though - no complaints once so ever. My girlfriend liked her ceviche - said it was refreshing and spicy. She didn't care for the sweet potato tho. I got the copa Maria - which best of both worlds. You get fish ceviche and fried fish, calamari, 1 mussel, and 1 shrimp lol. It was super refreshing, like really hit the spot. I would come here again for sure. There also seems to be A LOT on the menu to try of and they have a bar. Come out here next date night or friend get together.

    Came Back for a Friday Night Called 20mins earlier to make reservations. They said they dont do reservations Arrived and waited 5-10 mins for party of 3 to be seated. Staff if friendly and helpful. Food comes out quick Dishes are delicious... I noticed the Pisco prices went up (tariffs maybe?) Will come back...why cause theres so many dishes to try

    More of a 3.5 for me, but I'll round up for the good vibes. We came here for dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived a little before 6pm and the place was packed! This was the place to be ~ we actually had to get on the waitlist. They quoted a 15-20 minute wait, but we were seated in about 10 minutes. The ambiance really highlights Peruvian cuisine. There was Latin music playing and they were projecting a sports game (some fight) on the wall. Tables were jammed together - it's not a large space, so it was a bit cramped. We had a party of five and they essentially squeezed an extra chair into the table of four. With the music playing over the speakers, full house, tight space, and lively conversation, it is loud in the restaurant. They displayed Peruvian cookbooks on the counter, colorful peppers and garlics decorated the kitchen space overhead, and the wall above the kitchen listed out popular dishes. There's an open kitchen, and every time a dish was ready to be served, they ring the bell. Service was slow to start. After we were seated, it took a while for a staff member to greet us/acknowledge us at all. Since it was our first time visiting, an introduction to the restaurant and overview of the menu would've been extremely helpful, as many of the people in our party were not familiar with Peruvian food. The menu does provide adequate descriptions of the dishes, but it is in a small font and the menu titles weren't translated in English to easily understand the different sections. It took a while for the waitress to get situated and take our drink orders. After we placed our orders and waited for our food to come out, Peruvian corn nuts were randomly and silently placed on the table by another staff member; an explanation of what was being served would've been nice. As a cevicheria, of course, I had to order the ceviche. I ordered the ceviche mixto because I liked the variety of seafood that it offered. While there is a variety of seafood in the dish, it is still primarily fish. Yes, I was able to find A shrimp, A scallop, A mussel, A cut of octopus, and bits of calamari (all as advertised), the ceviche is mostly a mountain of fish. I stuck with the traditional tilapia and you can customize the heat level - I requested not spicy ;). The ceviche comes with sweet potatoes, Peruvian corn, corn nuts, red onions, and seaweed. Presentation was great - every dish that came out of the kitchen looked amazing. The inclusion of the scallop shell and mussel shell gave the dish a striking presentation. However, they really should give you an extra plate or bowl to discard the shells (the shells get pretty clunky in the dish after you eat the seafood out). Portion size of the ceviche was good - I would say that this dish is good for sharing. I enjoyed the dish overall - the seafood was fresh and the flavor was good, but I do enjoy a brighter, more acidic ceviche. I'm not sure if they prioritize the seafood for the ceviches, but while my scallop was nice and plump, the scallops on other cooked seafood dishes were much smaller - about a quarter of the size of my beautiful large scallop. Additionally, mussels on two of the other cooked seafood dishes (one was a stir-fry and one was the stew) were served closed. After notifying the waitress, she had us put them on a plate, the kitchen pried them open, and then she brought them back. I'll also note that for our spicy seafood stew dish, the clam shell was served broken which left some sharp remnants in the bowl while eating... the seafood could have been treated more delicately in this instance. A lot of the dishes are heavy with the starches - the ceviches come with corn and sweet potatoes, and the Saltado de Mariscos (seafood stir-fry) and Pollo Saltado (chicken stir-fry) come with both rice and french fries. While the menu is extensive (12 pages!), there are limited side options. We asked if there were any substitutions available, and the other option was yucca fries :D. The bistec a lo pobre (grilled steak) was a giant platter which comes with steak, a fried egg, rice, french fries, fried plantains, and a salad. The steak was thin and fatty... not exactly a prime cut, but then again, this is a cevicheria, not a steakhouse. Service did pick up as the meal progressed. We were checked on multiple times, and the waitress was attentive enough to notice that the napkins needed to be refilled without us having to ask. Tables were provided with their own drink pitcher for DIY refills. Since the restaurant was packed, service was hectic and chaotic at times. Timing of the dishes was also off. My ceviche came out about five minutes before any of the other dishes, which is always an awkward thing when it comes to etiquette. Entrees averaged between $20-$30. All staff members were friendly. They're definitely doing something right to have a packed house on a Saturday night. It was a satisfying taste of Peru overall, but there is still some room for improvement.

    Have wanted to try Barra Brava for quite some time. Stopped in to grab a to-go order. The restaurant itself has a really cool vibe. Colorful, bright, fun decor. I sat at the bar to place my order. Went with the Tallarin Saltado (stir fry noodles) and the Seco A La Nortena (short rib). Both dishes had decent flavor. The Tallarin fell a little short for me due to the lack of meat and overcooked noodles. I wouldn't order again. The food took quite a while to come out which I didn't understand since they weren't that busy. Slightly disappointed that the full experience was what it was. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon.

    3.5 stars It's pretty small in here. We tried to get a reservation for 12 people around 3pm on a Saturday but they don't take reservations before dinner because it's so busy. They ended up seating us at two different tables, 8 of us squished in the back near the bathroom, 4 at a table relatively farther away. We had a newborn with us and they wouldn't let us bring the stroller in, and we were trying to tell them that our baby can't sit in a high chair yet. They helped store it at the back, we are lucky the seat from our stroller detaches... But we had to prop it on a chair. Ordering took awhile and food was somewhat quick but my mom's Pescado a lo Macho took forever... Everyone got their food and it had to have been 10 minutes later that she finally got hers. My spouse got the ceviche-causa boat on the house for his birthday. Their ceviche is actually really good, lots of fish. The causa was really good too and I normally think causa is too dry and has too much potato. My aji de gallina wasn't great though. The rice was on the hard side, and the sauce was fine but it didn't feel like the chicken was tender and cooked with the sauce like I normally like. I don't actually know how to cook this dish, but everytime I've had it though, the chicken is so tender and seemed to take the flavor of the sauce very well. This felt like they just pulled some chicken off a rotisserie and mixed it with the sauce -- the chicken was pretty tough and in large chunks. There was a lot of potato mixed in, too to make it seem like there was more chicken. But this dish was relatively inexpensive. Overall, we'll still probably be back. It's good authentic Peruvian food, but it's not my favorite spot because they pack this place pretty tight, parking is limited, and I think the service is a bit spotty.

    Delicious Peruvian food in Burtonsville MD! I came here twice: once with my fiancé and again with friends. I've tried the fish ceviche, octopus ceviche, potato chicken salad, and fried yucca with ají sauce. The food here is very delicious and flavorful. My only gripe is I wish the ceviche had more lime flavor but other than that, it's perfect. The drinks are also very good. I do have one piece of feedback for management: PLEASE remove the table next to the bathroom/kitchen walkway. I sat there with my fiancé and the swinging door hit me multiple times to the point where we should have just requested the staff to move us elsewhere. It doesn't make sense to put a table next to a swinging door next to the bathroom, it's not pleasant to anyone.

    The ceviches are all delicious, the other foods like the fried rice is only ok. But it makes sense as they are known mostly for their ceviche.

    Very solid Peruvian restaurant in the area. Even though it was super busy they were able to accommodate us and seat us with no wait. They had a lot of different ceviche options and the ceviche was really good. Service was on point as well. Food was good as well. If you are craving Peruvian food this is definitely a nice local spot to check out

    I have gone to this location 3 times this week. The food is EXCEPTIONAL! Customer service/waiters are quick and attentive. I have taken my friends and family here because I want to share the goodness with everyone! Their cocktails are phenomenal. Clean location. It's so good! Don't like the large menu overwhelm you, descriptions are provided in English, so many options even for children! (Pasta & chicken tenders w/fries)

    Came here twice this past week to check out the new restaurant in Burtonsville. The menu is fairly extensive with lots of options to choose. TOP favorites dishes were Lomo Saltado (sautéed steak) and Pollo Saltado (sautéed chicken), both come with french fries and rice--meats are well flavored and decent portions. The Jalea Nortena (whole fried red snapper) looked appetizing but wasn't crunchy enough or well flavored, and we weren't a fan of the basic tartar sauce that comes with it. The Bisteck a lo Pobre (Peruvian style steak) was bland and super dry because it was cooked medium-well closer to well done, when we asked for medium. The Ceviche de Pescado (tilapia fish) was okay. For cocktails, their Mojitos were average, I've had better--they don't even muddle the mint leaves. Pisco Sour seems to be a popular drink here--tried a shot and it wasn't bad! The restaurant is fairly small and they don't take reservations. Sat in the bar area both times--my second time, the music was extremely LOUD, I asked if they could turn it down a bit because it was hard to converse with my friend, but the manager refused. Also, I noticed that staff here are fluent in Spanish not English, so sometimes there's a disconnect when trying to ask for something. Service is a bit slow too. However, the hostess is super friendly and even came over to check on us!

Truly, each course was delicious, with layers of flavor and unexpected combinations. The ceviche in an intensely limey coconut broth started off the meal and I thought that if everything else sucked I would still be happy. But the dishes kept getting better. I did not anticipate enjoying veal heart skewers, but they were smoky and very reminiscent of good carne asada. The purple corn tamale was a very interesting mix of heavier corn with light ahi tuna. And even the little bowl of plantain chips they bring out first was excellent. This is a set menu, 5 courses on the weekdays and 6 on the weekends, and is a bring your own alcohol set up. As a result, there is almost no interaction with the waitress, and the food just arrives, but it is timed very well, with reasonable periods between courses.
