Jerk chicken with rice and peas and cabbage
    Latoya G.

Bennett 5 Star Grill is a nice little food truck, in the midst of a corporate setting. Offering your traditional Caribbean fare of jerk chicken, oxtails, and jerk fish, Bennett's has something to please your Caribbean fix. I opted for the jerk chicken, since that's what I was craving. She chopped it up, added some spicy sauce and I was on my way. They give you a decent portion of food for the small price of $10. Now I'm someone who likes my jerk chicken "dirty" and spicy. I personally would've loved some more spice, and the sauce was just a little too sweet and tangy which made it more like eating bbq chicken instead of a dirty spicy jerk chicken. I also prefer the more rustic approach to jerk chicken with the chicken breast still on the bone. But nonetheless, the charcoal grill flavor was present and the chicken was plentiful. If your hankering for something different from your mundane work week lunch options, stroll over to Bennett 5 Star Grill, and put a little spice in your lunch.

If I could give a 6th star to just one place . . . . THIS WOULD BE THE PLACE! I happened across this food truck a couple of years ago with my daughter, who I'm sure immediately did a Yelp review. Today I had ordered the jerk chicken and mac and cheese and it was AMAZING! My gosh was it good. Seriously, I can't recommend it enough! I always have mine with the spicy sauce. The only issue I've had is that sometimes it's not there (and I'm deprived of the goodness) but don't give up. Keep trying until you find it. You'll truly miss out if you don't. Generous portions, great flavor, and a reasonable price! You can't lose with this one.

WOW! I don't understand why this food truck doesn't have 5 stars! I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and beans and it was DELICIOUS! The flavor of the jerk was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, and the size of the chicken breast were crazy! The rice and beans were equally delicious and complemented the chicken perfectly. Another thing worth mentioning is the price. The amount of food you get from what you pay is unbelievable! Definitely worth every penny. Also, if you are in a rush... don't worry! These ladies are quick. You'll be out of there in less than 5 minutes. I can assure you they are faster than a fast food restaurant. What are you waiting for??? GO AND EAT THAT CHICKEN!!!

Pleasant surprise from this hidden gem. Although I wanted curried goat I opted for the jerk salmon since it wouldn't weigh too heavy on me causing after lunch itis. For the sandwich only option it waa $8 & as you can see from the picture provided, a generous portion & moist. The salmon was flavorful and the right amount of jerk seasoning. I wil be back to explore the rest of the menu. Pay attention to the hours & there was a steady stream of patrons so if you know that you want a particular item, go early or even call your order in for pickup.

Forgot to take a before shot. This is 5 minutes in...right around the time I decided I needed to leave my first ever review.

This place was so damn good, it made me write a Yelp review. I cannot believe I haven't been to this spot before now. I finally made it down there and ordered a jerk chicken platter with the spicy sauce. The platter came with 2 sides of rice + beans and cabbage for a total of $10. Let me tell you, she's not F-ing around with the portions. Chicken was well seasoned, charred, and tender. Cabbage was delicious. But the spicy sauce...now I don't know what this lady's brewing up back there but I think she poured some crack into it. I NEED MORE. If there's only one negative thing to say about this place is that it's only open until 2 pm. How am I gonna get my second fix?!

a plate of rice and meat

Rice: Dry, no gravy just Dry. The cabbage wasnt moist enough to help it. Chicken: Dry, all white meat is ok but the plate as a whole was just dry. Im chewing the chicken and my mouth is literally drying out. No moistness in the food, period. Flavor: Decent but it dont matter, the food was so dried out i feel like i could have done better elsewhere. DRY, DRIED OUT, NO GRAVY, NOTHIN, CABBAGE EVEN DRY, how you do that.

I got 1 word for this place: MARVELOUS. I came here yesterday for lunch and the food was wonderful. Food trucks can either be a gimmick or the real deal. I've been to numerous food trucks including a food truck festival a couple years ago and found that there were only 3 food trucks I really loved. This is 1 of them. I tried ordering her Oxtails but she ran out and told me she'll have more by Thursday (Tomorrow). I was sad because that was the main thing I wanted! But I was also happy because she had other choices to choose from. So I ordered myself a Goat Curry with Rice & Beans and Mac N Cheese. I also got BBQ Chicken (Dark meat) and Jerk Chicken with the same sides. I saw that she had some glass bottles of Jamaican Ginger Beer and some Champagne Kola so I got those too. Altogether was like 30 bucks. For 3 people? Sounds pretty good. When I held those bags full of food while walking back to the car, they had some weight to it! And it smelled so damn good. When I went back and shared the food with my brother and dad (Dad is not open minded when it comes to foreign cuisine) hence why I got the BBQ chicken because it was the only dish that SEEMED like it didn't have a lot of spices to it. The Goat Curry was remarkable. Strong flavors from the spices and the distinct flavor of the goat itself just went so well with the rice & beans. And the fact that the goat curry was on top, all that sauce was slowly penetrating the rice, making the combination of flavors sinfully good. The Mac N Cheese? I've been to so many places that serves Mac N Cheese and was never impressed. Not even close. They're flavorless. You could barely taste the cheese and nothing else. The textures were either like mush or the pasta was al dente. However this place does it right. It wasn't like WOW OMG SO SINFUL but it was the best I've had so far... Little pieces of veggies mixed in with the gooey cheese and pasta and it actually had flavor! :O I tried some of my dad's BBQ chicken and it definitely had distinct spices in it. My dad liked it but would rather have Chik Fil A. I know.......... I personally thought it was fantastic. I loved how each dish had so much flavor and were different from it's counterparts. I never had the Jerk Chicken my brother had but he confirmed that it was amazing. The Jamaican Ginger Beer tasted like an all natural Ginger Ale. Tastier than the Canada Dry and tasted more natural. My brother had the Kola and didn't say anything about it so I'm guessing it's pretty good? The food here is truly remarkable. I may not know the "authentic" flavors of Caribbean cuisine but I know the food here is DELICIOUS. The only con I have about this place is it's schedule. Closes at 3 every weekday and off on weekends?! SERIOUSLY?? This woman can make all kinds of money if she were to open everyday or at least open later than 3pm.

This is a 3500 econoline van, towing a big trailer with a BBQ. It's all running off a generator inside the van, and the food is cooked over charcoal. You'd probably miss it if you weren't looking for it, as it's parked 1/3 of the way down a dead end side street in a business park without much else going on. A bicyclist actually turned around to check it out while we were in line, all because it smelled so good. My buddy and I each ordered the Jerk Chicken meal, he went with dark meat and the owner let me split mine half dark and half white. My friend got a salad and I got cabbage. It comes with a side (cabbage, salad, or macaroni and cheese), and your choice of chicken on a bed of rice/beans. It's a solid meal for $8 and you shouldn't be hungry afterwards (you may even have leftovers). The cabbage was nice and spicy with black pepper, really good (I'd order that again). The chicken was fantastic, nice and moist with that kind of smokey chargrilled taste. I wish I'd asked for extra sauce over the top, because it was great. I don't think anyone would argue that it's spicy, but if you like REALLY spicy (like me) you probably wouldnt mind seeing the temperature kicked up a few degrees. I've heard the curry chicken is really good as well, but the Jamaican jerk will definitely be on my lunch rotation. I'd probably jump this review to 5 stars if the other menu items are equally as good.

First time yesterday after having this place bookmarked forever now! Never could make it because of their hours but so glad I finally did! Had the jerk chicken meal, with Mac n cheese and rice and beans, and oh. my. god. Freaking AMAZING! The Smokey-ness of the chicken, the spicy sauce, the cheesy gooey Mac n cheese, the flavorful rice. Mmmm mmmm mmmm! Have already told all my coworkers about this place and plan on taking a herd of them back tomorrow! Only suggestion - open more hours and more days!

This food truck came up in my lunch fast food search dieting my 3 day training session off of Columbia gateway drive. With my grandmother being from Trinidad, I have a special taste for Caribbean food so I jumped at the chance to get some. Day 1: Jerk Chicken meal with rice/beans and mac & cheese I asked for the spicy sauce, which made it perfect. Warning, it is very spicy. I was given a very large serving of dark meat chicken. Day 2: curry chicken meal with rice, carrots, and cabbage. The chicken is cut up but there is still plenty of it. The curry sauce had a slight sweetness to it that went well with the carrots. Both dishes were ample and filling for $8. Credit card was accepted. If I worked in the area, I would visit this place at least once a week. There is so much more on the menu that I would love to try!

But since it was just me, I opted for seating at the bar. There are 2 bars at this location--one at the drink bar and one at the sushi bar. The drinks are VERY good, and the bartenders are very receptive to your orders and all. Ambiance was good--not too dark, just right. Very chic. I ordered a LOT. Several pieces of sushi, chicken karage (which I saw people post pics of, and that's what convinced me to check it out.), Japanese curry, and some other sashimi and little burgers. They were all fantastic! The chicken karage was the big hit--so delicious you can taste it thru the pictures. The curry wasn't spicy at all, but seeing as it's Japanese style, it's more on the savory and tasty side, not on the spicy side. Overall very delicious. The wagyu sashimi was VERY long (that's what she said), so eating one piece whole isn't recommended. Chew it, then swallow. The mini burgers were everything you love about Japanese takes on purpose burgers. Done perfectly, with that amazing bbq grill taste, too. The sushi was fresh and tasted amazing. My only gripe is that their ordering system is odd; you can only order so many pieces of food per order number. There are order limits, but it's setup such that the kitchen doesn't get overwhelmed. That being said, your orders usually come out pretty quickly. I highly recommend this place!

When you arrive at the restaurant, the hostess greets you and ask if you have a reservation. Both times I've been here, it wasn't too busy but it was during the week. Service is really good. They're always very helpful in explaining the menu. We went with the AYCE Master option. The Legend option with the Wagyu looks appealing but I can't justify spending $88 a person. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem spending the money, since most of it goes to alcohol when we're having dinner anyways, but it was a really nice experience. This would be a place I would bring friends from out of town who want to have an experience similar what you would find NYC or Vegas. We had a really good time, especially on $10 margaritas and all you can eat meat. The presentation is really wonderful and I love the thought behind the presentation when it comes out. The Wagyu Fried Rice and Curry is one of the bests I've ever had. And the scallops with butter on the grill were awesome. Definitely a favorite. I will add the the iPad that you order with will start a timer for 90 minutes, and you can only put in an order every ten minutes which was annoying, so I did feel a bit of pressure with ordering. The time limit is to control time spent which makes sense if it was busy. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the wet mop smell we had during dinner, but don't know if it is because it was hot out and the AC was not blasting high enough with all the grills going off, so it was kind of hot and sticky during dinner. I may come back next time to check out Happy Hour next time! Vibes are actually pretty cool. Service is great.

We also each had a cocktail--the Peach Mule and the Key Lime Pie cocktail. Both were refreshing, well-balanced, and a great addition to the meal. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience and would definitely come back!
