This is a sad pizzeria. We'd been wanting to try this place for a while, and thought tax-free weekend shopping provided a good opportunity. Before we were seated we were informed the pizza oven was being reheated and would take about twenty minutes to reach temp. Interesting, but whatever, you don't normally get your entree in the first 20 minutes of being at a restaurant. The interior was cool with lots of decorative brick and b&w photos of NYC, but nothing was especially clean. We perused the menu, hoping the crumbs on our table were the exception rather than the rule, and quickly settled on salads and a Brooklyn Bridge pizza topped with sweet red peppers, ricotta and sausage. The salads were HUGE. If you like eating giant $7 bowls of lettuce, this place is for you. I would guess they waste enough lettuce to feed a whole hutch of rabbits just based on the size of the "small" salads. What on earth must the large look like?? I like lettuce and I like salad but this house salad was so plain and boring and even after 20ish bites I was not able to reduce the lettuce to the level of the bowl's rim. I let the waitress have it and hoped the pizza would be more impressive. After many minutes we were served our pizza. Thin crisp crust, really tasty sauce, and ricotta that needed a touch more salt. The real disappointment was the sausage--every single piece on the whole pizza could have fit on one slice. Were they running out? Trying to save the environment? Trying to improve our cholesterol? Whatever the reason, the waitress didn't stick around long enough to let us field the question. She asked, "Everything taste all right?" and disappeared before her words had even had time to register. We used the table parmesan to compensate for the lack of salt and ate every piece of that so-so pizza, partially thanks to the appetite our shopping had worked up and partially because at $26 a pie you just feel sad and guilty over your poor choices. I feel like we paid $40+ to eat a $25ish meal. We won't be back. read more

Nothing fancy about this place but it was good pizza. Specifically the white pizza was pretty solid. It is thinner crust pizza so if you're into the thicker things in life, this pizza isn't for you. I would pass on the Italian soda, very bad. But the pizzas come in large sizes that can feed several pizza and have a good sauce to them. All in all one for the better pizza places in then area. 5 stars all the way! Grimaldi's goes above and beyond when it comes to pizza. This location had staff who checked on us every so often to make sure our experience was good; and it was! We ordered the 18" traditional with pepperoni and Italian sausage. kept it simple with the toppings but you have the option to customize it however you'd like. Pizza came out hot and fresh and we dove right in (See attached pic). Ended up devouring the pizza and left no crumbs behind. read more

We seriously want to L-O-V-E this place, the pizza is great! but.............there is always a snafu. When we order two pizzas inevitably one of them takes several minutes longer than the other. One time we ordered a pizza and a calzone, the calzone showed up at least 30 minutes after the pizza was delivered! Tonight was no different. We ordered two pizzas, one showed up with no sight or mention of our second. We watched as several other pizzas were being taken out of the kitchen to other tables as we waited, at least ten minutes, for our second pizza. This may be fine if everyone at the table is eating both pizzas, but our family is split on who likes what, so either they politely sit and wait, while their pizza gets cold, or half the table eats while the others watch and wait. On top of that, our first pizza was delivered, by someone who was not our server, with a confession that they made it smaller than we had ordered, so a personal size would be out to make up for that mistake. When our other pizza that we ordered finally did show up, by yet a third person to our table, we asked why they can't bring two pizzas out at the same time that were ordered together and also mentioned about our previous long wait for a calzone with a pizza. She said if we order a calzone, we should order it as soon as we come in the door because calzones take longer than pizza. Shouldn't our server &/or kitchen know that? What other restaurant do you order knowing how much time each item will take, isn't that part of their job to coordinate it all?! ........anyway, back to this evening, the personal size pizza that was to make up for the smaller pizza they made than we had ordered, never showed up. At the end of our meal we told our server what had happened and she was not aware of any of it. She said she would bring out a personal size, we told her to just charge us for the smaller size and forget the personal size. When she brought the check she said she had taken one pizza off our check since it was the kitchens fault. Ok, whatever, we were fine with paying for a smaller size...........BUT the charge was NOT removed from our check. Does anyone know what is going on in this place? We would visit way more often if we could count on a more enjoyable experience. It is just frustrating and that is not a fun evening. read more

As a New Yorker....Grimaldi pizza is pretty good in Dallas and Allen . BUT DO NOT go to the one in Grapevine Texas. Pizza was poorly distributed....globs of sauce on one side and none on the other. Grimaldi's pizza is outstanding but the care and concern of their employees is terrible. Ordered two pizza to go with a pickup for 4:15. Checked in and they said it will be a couple of minutes. At 4:30 I asked if was ready. No answer. Waitress said something to the guy who looked like a manager. Finally, at 4:40 the first pie came out. At 4:45 the second one was given to me. This my wife and I'd first date night in over two years it's been hard with the Kiddos and Covid-19 trying to find the time for each other. We had planned to come here on our anniversary on April 19th to try something new as we've never been but that couldn't happen. When we first walked in on June 13th it was already an enjoyable experience the young lady behind the counter helped us right away tooo our names down and let us know it'll be a 30 minute wait. No problem. We popped into the Starbucks next door for some much needed caffeine and walked around the area for a little bit. Came back and were promptly seated in a nice little decorated corner. The lights were made from wine bottles which I thought was really cool and there was a mirror for us to see the entire restaurant and all the amazing decorations they had on display. I ordered the bruschetta trio which comes with your choice of three different styles. I got the roasted red pepper and the tomato and basil choices. My wife's first time having that in her life and she got hooked! Our server was on point too! She came but refilled our drinks, check up on us. Took our pizza order. My wife got a 16" traditional with Spicy chicken sausage, meatballs, and spinach. I ordered the Traditioanl 16" with pepperoni, red peppers, spinach, and meatballs. My wife's was the best, it couldn't even compare to mine. Though mine was really good it was the spicy chicken sausage that gave my wife's pizza this nice POP to it. I definitely will be coming back here for another date night. Everything was enjoyable and very loving. First time visit on February 14. We were in for a quick visit and ordered a margherita pizza and a shared piece of New York cheesecake. I gotta say, I've finally found legitimate New York pizza in DFW! The coal fired oven does it job, and I noticed on the menu that they filter their water to replicate New York, giving the crust that taste that you generally can't get anywhere else. The toppings are minimalist. This isn't your stuffed crust fifty pounds of government cheese kinda joint. Oh no. This is small amounts of high quality ingredients where a little bit packs a mighty flavor town wallop. The crust is charred, thin, flexible, and has the slightest hint of coal taste to it. Perfect bitter notes to pair with the tomato sauce. I've seen comments that Grimaldi's is expensive. For a sixteen inch pizza, a piece of cheesecake, and an Americano, more than enough food for two, the bill came out to thirty bucks. To me, great food for a reasonable price. If you want something cheaper, just order delivery and play the "Is this the pizza or the box it came in?" game. One star removal for the waitstaff working the upsells pretty hard. I understand that's their job, but I'm always averse to it. On the positive side, our server seemed to understand right away that we were going to get a small order, eat it, and get out so he could make more money on the next table, and he didn't go too hard on that aspect. Question for management: How are you guys getting permits all over the country for coal fired ovens? Not that I'm complaining. Just curious. I know there are a very few grandfathered in in NYC, and figured regulations would be the same elsewhere. read more

We were a party of seven. When we got there, around 6:15 pm , there were several tables of 4 open, but none together. They first said 45 mins. I asked why since there were so many open tables. The manager came and said that would be 20 mins. Instead of keeping one table open and waiting for another table closer to open up, they got several small parties sit after us to sit. 40 mins pass and I complained. The very rude manger asked me if I could see any open table that would fit 7 ? I said no because he keep sitting the small parties. I kept eye on tables and told the manager what to do by moving the two open tables together. Well it is 8 pm and finally we got the pizza! Never come here again! Ever. read more

Best pizza we've had in DFW so far. Nice thin crust but with a nice chew. They could use a few more appetizer choices on their menu. Not a big fan of their politics however...This business does not allow law abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms. Most restaurants I've encountered do not allow open carry of firearms which I understand. But to prohibit all law abiding citizens that carry concealed firearms is a joke. Extremely slow and over priced. Came here on a Wednesday...A WEDNESDAY. Granted it was the week after Christmas so there was a wait for the two of us. We nabbed a spot at the bar at 7:45 and immediately ordered a glass of wine, a beer, and a pizza since we had a movie to catch. I ordered the margarita personal pizza and was not impressed with the following: - attentiveness of service - speed of food delivery - flavor of the red sauce (tasted bitter and had no spice) - amount of cheese on the pizza ( pizza was overwhelmed with sauce and you could barely see or taste the cheese) - price for the quality and quantity of food I ordered. Pizza is so over rated. It's all basically the same every where you go right? It's like... bread with cheese and tomato sauce and a bunch of random toppings... what's so great about it? Sometimes there's too much bread (dough) and it's not even good! This was my general thought process before Grimauldi's. They proved me wrong :P I ordered a personal sized pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and onions... it was pretty basic and I wasn't expecting much (I should have, considering a personal pizza with these toppings runs about $18). Well, let me tell you, it was top notch. The dough was thin and perfect and balanced well with the delicious toppings. I have never before been as impressed by what looks like a regular old pizza. I haven't eaten at the restaurant. I've only ordered pick up (because I get to take it home, enjoy it with beer and can watch some college football in my pjs). I highly recommend ordering about 45 mins in advance of picking your pizza up on Friday and Saturday evenings. They are packed and busy getting pizza's out. This review has got me hungry and wanting a pizza now! BTW, a personal pizza is big enough for two regular pizza consuming human beings. Wow, this is the only one-star review I've ever given. Hubs and I ventured over to Grimaldi's one Sunday afternoon. There weren't many folks there, and the decor was pretty nice. We were seated promptly and then the crazy factory kicked into gear. We were promptly approached by a young man to wait on us. He was... interesting. Case in point, although he was not a day over 18 and one month, he proceeded to describe--in grand detail--all of the alcoholic drinks he preferred. When we glossed over the strange proclamations, he followed up with... "Because you know, I drink. I drink a lot. And I've tried all of these." Um... Okay? Congratulations? Can I have an iced tea? When we ordered, he proceeded to question every decision we made. "Pesto? You want pesto *ON* the pizza? Are you a pesto person? Do you like it?" Please young sir, just give me the pesto. While we waited for our food, he proceeded to mosey back over, not to check on us, but to share in his hilarity... Apparently someone had just stolen the manager's credit card number, the manager was upset about it, and the wee lad thought the customers--aka his new BFFs--should laugh with him about it. He told us, "Man, he is so pissed. He is over there saying 'S#!T!'" Thanks for the update, Mr. Professional. That poor manager! When our pizza came, it was rather atrocious. The bottom was burnt and the top was raw. I mean, flat out RAW! I will have to give it to the manager... He was very nice, and promptly comped out pizza when we pointed it out. I am a pizza lover and Grimaldi's definitely knows how to make a pizza. The pizza crust is thin but crunchy. I love the ambiance of the place and we always start off with a salad and if we are hungry the two of us can actually finish a large pizza all by ourselves. We highly recommend getting The Don or The Garden. Also definitely check out their wine menu if you are a wine lover. Their red wines by the glass are always really reasonably priced and complements their pizza very well. We are always too full to try their dessert. Hopefully we can try it on our next visit. read more

On a 2nd visit, we tried the white pizza and the pesto pizza, in addition to the regular style. The white pizza, hands down, is the way to go for an authentic NY style experience. The pizza does not use red sauce, but uses a ton of mozzarella, and a good amount of garlic as the base. We had it with meatballs and fresh tomatoes, and it was great - just like many pizzas we have had in NYC. The pesto sauce is also tasty. Instead of the tomato based red sauce this one is obviously basil based. We had it with Italian sausage, and the pizza tasted reminiscent of middle eastern lamb-mint dishes. Very good change of pace from the usual pizza. My rating went from 4 to 5 stars after the 2nd visit, because we tried more options and it only improved this restaurant's standing in our minds. Cant think of how to make this pizza restaurant any better. Tuesdays are half price wine nights on the entire wine list. read more

Some of it was our choice of toppings and calzone filling that maybe we didn't think was best. I think we've just had better pizza couple other places for less expensive. Met some friends there for dinner and had a good time and the pie was good. The place is busy so be prepared but they do have a nice bar area and once the weather is warm (like today) the outdoor seating area would be great. We didn't have to wait very long and were seated. Service was very good, not to intrusive and the server was sharp. I appreciate someone who knows how to speak and listen, kudos to the training staff. Salads and meal were served promptly and with good timing which is another thing that is often overlooked but I appreciate. Well done to the staff, will return! read more

I went to Grimaldi's with a group of friends. All I heard on the way there is how good it was and how it was a Brooklyn staple for many years. Expectations were high. We got there and we saw the menu. The pizza is reasonably priced if you only get cheese, BUT if you want ingredients, the prices PER INGREDIENT are $3 to $4...WHAT?? That adds up quickly! I was hoping for some pasta or something else, but they only sell pizza and a couple of salads. We ordered a salad, drinks etc. The caprese salad was meh. The house white whine was pretty good. The soda was flat. Anyway, we asked the waitress how many people the large pizza would feed because there were 4 of us and I am a vegetarian, so I was going to order a personal pizza just for me. She said the large feeds 5 people easily. We ordered the large and we figured that there was only 4 of us so there was no need for more than a large. The pizza came and it was practically burned! Nobody said anything because it took kind of a while to get there and everyone was hungry. I honestly thought it was super flavorless. Didn't like it at all. The sauce didn't taste like anything. I do like thin crust pizza though, I just wish it hadn't been burned. The pizza was not at all enough to feed all 4 of us, we all left super hungry, we were only able to eat 2 slices each and the slices are not super big, there are also cut super irregular, so you may get a mega slice and your friend a super small one. We had cannoli and it was just meh. Next time, take the gun and leave the cannoli! We left after paying an expensive bill as far as pizza goes, and went to get some fast food because we were all still hungry. Not thinking about going back. read more

I had heard about this pizza place because they use a special water filtration system for their pizza dough and I was curious and it was awesome. I'm from the East Coast so I've had my fair share of great pizza. The dough was perfect, the cheese was high quality, the sauce was great. My only compliant was there is no ranch dressing.
