First time at Grinder and definitely won't be my last! This steakhouse is so so good. Meats are super fresh and cooked exactly how you want. My filet mignon was the best I've had in a long time. The mushroom sauce was a lovely compliment to the meat. Ambiance is beautiful! Very inviting and nice for an evening out. I love the plants on the walls. Service was great too. Very attentive and friendly. You gotta come check it out!

Anytime I told someone I was going to Montreal they recommended Grinder. Because of this it felt like the perfect spot for night one of my brothers bachelor party. We had a group of 14 so we ended up doing the $75 price fixed menu. This menu was 3 courses including an appetizer, entree, and then a shared dessert plate. I ended up doing the calamari and the hanger steak with chimichurri. Both were prepared excellent and exceeded my expectations. I prefer my steak medium well and it was perfect! Service was great and the ambiance of the restraint was awesome. Next time I'm in the city I plan to go again!

Great dinner at Grinder in Montreal. The burger was delicious. At first it appears small but the patty is so think it will fill you up!!! BUT leave space for dessert. Not sure of the name but it's like pancake with maple syrup and Ice cream. AMAZING. Great service and ambience.

Had a special birthday dinner with my husband here, who had made a surprise reservation, based on the recommendation of a local friend. Seated promptly, and had great service throughout. Just enough attention without the server being too intrusive. The atmosphere was great, a kind of Chelsea loft / hipster modern vibe. Ordered the ribeye (15oz) which came with a N'duja butter side for added flavor that was not at all necessary. The steak was cooked and seared to perfection, and was a good cut of beef. This aspect they clearly know what they are doing. Accompanied by some red wine, which was also good. Side dish was potatoes "aligot", which I guess is a fancy way of saying mashed potatoes with aged cheddar. Very nice and creamy/fluffy.

Amazing place, if you're not looking for a good time then don't come here.

This is a very nice steakhouse. Can't say anything is out of this world but they know what they are doing. The sharing plates are a fantastic deal. Service was spot on and fast. It's an industrial building with a young vibe. I would come back here with the guys again for sure.

On a recent trip to Montreal we decided to try Grinder based on great reviews and we were absolutely not disappointed. We called for a reservation (which is recommended) and were able to sit at the bar at the time we wanted. The bar is super comfortable and spacious and we loved the service. Bartenders were so nice and took great care of us. We ordered the surf and turf for two with a NY strip, lobster tail, shrimp, and scallops. We also had the delicious french fries and mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare, as ordered, and the seafood was incredible. The lobster tail literally melted in my mouth! The restaurant has an extensive and good wine list and a full bar. We had a bottle of Chianti to share. It was a perfect date night in Montreal and we are so glad we decided to splurge. This place is a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for a special occasion!

Came here for some good steak when visiting Montréal, not only we had great steak, lobsters, Scallops also enjoyed delicious onion soup, sashimi, dessert and fabulous cocktails. Services was efficient given they were extremely busy. Every table was packed. But still managed to serve the foods and drinks at a reasonable pace. The open kitchen concept was great, small but lively. Bathrooms are tiny. Very European but clean. This place Can get loud but the vibe is super fun. LGBT friendly. Highly recommend.

    Jas S.

Surprisingly great steakhouse with seafood options. Recommend the caesar salad, generous portion not drowning in dressing. Good selection of wines by the glass. Tuna tartare had a welcome sweet citrus note. The RIBEYE was AMAZING, cooked perfectly with an amazing sear and flavor (watch out Joe Beef), almost worth 79$. Even thought it was busy on a Tuesday night, service was good and the place was pretty crowded. Definitely a special occasion, hip, and trendy place (mostly because it's expensive). Valet parking available (but we walked).

We stopped by on the way to Quebec City and I purposely wanted to take a route that didn't go through downtown Montreal. This place has amazing reviews on Google and I was pretty excited. We ordered from the tartare page, 6 oz portions with their various sides. Cauliflower soup was the soup of the day and it was creamy and delicious. Not the strongest flavor but that went well with the tartare. We also tried the rice and homemade chips which were all fantastic compliments for the tartare. I tried the classic beef which was amazing!! My partner ordered the steakhouse beef which he enjoyed but he preferred the classic. My parents also tried the teriyaki tuna and strawberry salmon. Absolutely delicious! The strawberry one is so brightly flavored. They select wonderful toppings to mix into the tartare. I actually ordered a 4oz maple bacon salmon, which I kinda crave now. That was a delicious, smokey, sweet and walnutty flavor. So glad we ordered it as a shared appetizer. Given that nearly everything is raw, it was so quick service. The hostess also learned we didn't speak French and was very very kind to give us an English menu and help explain their specials. They seemed quite busy with online orders but I think thanks to the snow, not many people were dining in. Hopefully they are keeping busy enough because it's delicious foods. Light enough to enjoy without feeling totally stuffed, but substantial enough that you leave satisfied. Definitely gotta make this our regular stop

Normally, the price is $26 so that's a pretty good deal. The soup was a puree vegetable soup (forgot what it's called) and was hearty and homey. The Steakhouse beef tartare was loaded with roasted red peppers and crispy onions but I found the taste lacking punch. It could've used just a squeeze of lemon but otherwise, the meat was tender. I like the side of "homemade" chips that were similar to thick kettle cooked chips. I really enjoyed the flavors in the "fish & chips" Salmon tartare topped with pickled carrots and cabbage to give it a bit of kick and the fresh spinach salad. The crispy baguette slices were garlicky and tasty. The place was clean and empty during lunch on Wednesday. Apparently most people order takeout/delivery since many of the stores had opened during the pandemic. Because of that, they're running promos to try to get people to dine in. Every Wednesday night, they have all you can eat tartare for only $33 and you'll find a rotation of 4 tartare options (one flavor of salmon, tuna, beef and cooked shrimp) each week on their Facebook page so you can time your visit.

My entire Montreal trip was planned around getting this reservation. The food here is good. It reminds me of what restaurants used to do; cook for enjoying instead of just paying the bills. When you start to cook for just the money, you lose the risk taking and excitement from the food. Firstly, the restaurant is very hot. They need to check their AC or maybe they're just choosing to be very European. But that aside our waiter was very good and friendly. He really helped make our dinner fun and memorable. The beef tartare was ok. The sweetbreads were probably the best I've ever had anywhere. The double down is their riff on the KFC sandwich where they used two pieces of fried chicken as bread, instead these guys used two pieces of fried foie gras. It's rich, fatty, and delicious. You do not want to eat more than what they've given but it was every bit enjoyable. The pasta and sausages were good as well. But the strawberry sorbet dessert was so damn good and exactly what I needed to cool down. I had a great experience and highly recommend Joe Beef.

I was thinking it would be the whole scallop, but it was cut into little pieces and put on top of the asparagus. For the entrees we got the filet and another steak I can't remember the name?? Pics and reviews looked great, so we made plans to dine here during our penultimate night in the city. Barroco is located in Old Montreal, right on Rue Saint-Paul. The exterior has really charming curb appeal, and upon entry we were greeted by the same. This isn't a large restaurant, arranged with tables and a few booths throughout the space and a bar on the back wall that serves as a focal point. The vibes were on - the restaurant was tastefully decorated with a mix of old-fashioned fixtures, stone walls, and earth tones. The restaurant was quite lively - the vibes were on. Their drink menu is quite creative; we actually started our evening at the bar while we were waiting for our table and the bartender made some great suggestions - both cocktails I had were really good. The food menu is mostly French inspired; it wasn't extensive but they had a good variety of creative dishes. We decided on two starters - the brioche and the octopus salad. The brioche was fine, it came as one roll with a side of seasoned butter. It was a little on the dry side, and the butter wasn't very flavorful. The octopus salad was much better; the octopus was sliced and arranged on top of a ratatouille which provided a good complement of flavors and textures. For my main I got the OG braised beef. The beef was almost pot-roast style, seasoned with maple and aged balsamic sauce and paired with truffled celery root purée. This was delicious - the beef was super tender, and the sauce provided great flavor. The puree was an awesome side - the entire trip was super comforting and familiar while also being new and interesting. We decided to get two desserts - the madeleines and the olive oil cake. The former were baked fresh and came with a side of chocolate pudding and salted caramel, while the latter came with whipped cream and coached pears. Both were good, but I preferred the madeleines; the warm sponge paired with the chocolate and caramel was a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everyone from the host to the bartender to our waiter made us feel welcome; they definitely elevated the experience. Overall, I had a great time at Barroco; the food, vibes, and service were all on point. I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in Montreal.
