We have eaten here several times for years. I usually order cheese enchiladas or shredded beef chimichangas, but the waitress recommended a chicken chimichanga with grilled veggies. We tried this place for date night. Unfortunately, we really really really wish we had NOT. The salsa was ok.. The food on the other hand was atrocious. The rice was NOT seasoned, and BLAND. The carne asada tasted like liver. The beans were not seasoned. The food tasted like someone once had a relative visit a great Mexican restaurant in the 1800's , and they thought they could cook from the memory that was passed down from generation to generation. I never leave bad reviews. Have you ever seen kitchen nightmares and Gordon Ramsey eats a tamale that is so dry? That is what this is like. Seems and tastes like they make things in bulk, freeze, and then use a microwave. The food was gross. We ordered just a basic bean and cheese burrito that was less than mediocre. I'm sad to say , I most likely wouldn't recommend Gringos . We had a very nice server , and the restaurant has a good atmosphere . The drinks and the chips and salsa were great ! But the food was ....not good . We had a grilled chicken quesadilla , a sweet pork quesadilla (strange mix of cheese to meat , and soggy ) , two enchiladas (had practically no sauce , and waaay too much cheese ), two beef tequitos (very SOFT and waaay to much meat ) and rice and beans . DISGUSTING. My wife and I went here on a spur of the moment date after we went to the movies. We thought it looked decent inside and had a nice feel for a rexburg restaurant. The service was prompt and they stay open relatively late compared to other sit down food places in this town. However... my wife found a LONG HAIR cooked in her quesadilla. She was so disturbed and repulsed that she could not eat anymore. My food was alright but we left after the hair situation. A few months passed and I decided to go back again since I didn't think my food was half bad the first time. However at the bottom of the tortilla chip basket was a FRIED HAIR. I CANNOT BELIEVE there was a SECOND HAIR in the food from this place. Barf. Never gonna return. I blame myself for giving them a second go around. I've been in Rexburg before on business. On my first trip here, I thought the only restaurant in the area was an Applebee's and some fast food joints. This time around I pledged to be a bit more adventerous and I'm glad I did. Gringo's is kind of hidden behind the main drag in downtown Rexburg. We were originally going go to a different restaurant but it looked like a fast food joint, so we kind of bumped into this place while changing direction. It looked O.K. from the outside so we decided to give it a shot. Inside, we were promptly seated and the waitress was very attentive and personable. We were asked what we wanted to drink and what type of salsa we wanted, mild, medium, hot and red or green. Menu was pretty basic mexican, a variety of burritos, enchilada's and tacos and the usual combination plates. I had the #7 combination, chilis rellenos with a cheese and onion enchilada with rice. The chips appeared to be store bought, rather thin but crispy and reasonably fresh. Salsa looks like it was made in a blender but the red and green hot tasted fine. Not great but acceptable. Our order came in about 20 minutes. My first impression is that they sure use a lot of cheese. If you like cheesy mexican food, this is it. As I like cheese, it was no problem. Chili Rellenos was OK but I had better, only issue is that I could taste the oil, perhaps a bit rancid. I also tasted oil in the rice. The Cheese enchilada was not bad but the enchilada sauce had no presence. To me this was americanized mexican food, pretty typical for a small college town. It was hot and satisfying but nothing special. This place got an additional star for the waitress and reception person. Very nice and attentive. Most entree's are in the 8 to 10 dollar range so easy on the wallet as well. read more

My husband and I went to Gringos and really had a great experience. Our waitress was awesome. Brought chips and salsa right to the table and refilled when we were running low. I love that you can pick what type of salsa you want and they are great. Chips were warm and fresh. My husband ordered Chili Colorado with fries instead of beans and really like it. I ordered Con crema with shrimp and loved it! soooo yummy. Food comes piping hot and fresh. The Con crema Is the only thing I've ordered on the menu so far but I'm looking forward to trying more menu items. The restaurant is clean , warm and welcoming. The only complaint was when I went with my sister. She ordered the cream cheese and crab burrito. She said it was good but had way to much cream cheese and not enough crab meat so it was extremely rich. She gave me a bite and I totally agree. I could see how a lot of people would really love it but it was just too rich for us. My sister went back with her husband and said they had a really great time. She also ordered the shrimp con crema and loved it and could not wait to go back and try it with steak. Loved our food and we will definitely be back. read more

We went for dessert to celebrate a birthday, and came away less than impressed. We all ordered the fried ice cream. It took quite a while to come out, and before it did outlet waitress came to inform us that they were out of caramel and anyone who wanted that needed to choose something different. Some of the glasses reeked of detergent to the point where we were afraid to drink the water because we thought it could make us sick. Luckily the ice team itself tasted ok. As we were almost done eating, I went to the restroom to change my baby's diaper. The stall with the changing table was out of order, and when I asked the hostess if I could just use the changing table, she told me that I'd need to figure something else out because she wasn't going to let me in that stall. This was our first time trying Gringos and were optimistic. Upon sitting down, our server greeted us and brought out some chips and salsa. The salsa wasn't terrible but the chips seemed store bought and fried again before being served. After receiving our food, we were very disappointed to learn that the shrimp I we bought were over fried and only a few compared to the monstrous amount of fried and shredded lettuce. Oh boy!! Where to start! The last time we were here the service wasn't great at all. I always try to cut waiters and waitresses some slack but dude sometimes you need to move with your life and not serve the general public some people just aren't cut out for it. The service here has gone down hill over the last 6 months. The food is still edible and pretty good. If you wanna spend two hours waiting for your food and have time to waste no big deal. I understand as a waiter your trying to get around to attend to your other customers but being flat out ignored not getting our drinks or chips and salsa right way wasn't cool that took 15 minutes because we had to ask for him to brink those to us then he still forgot like 5 minutes later I'm like really??!! This particular waiter used the excuse that there was a big group in his section and they he was trying to go back and forth between them and us. But it wasn't only us be forgotten there was two other tables that came in after us and he told them it was going to be atleast an hour wait so the 2 ladies got up and left then the other table he told them it was going to be about a 45 minute wait because of the big group well they decided to stay and wait it out. Well then then group got up and left then he told the other table oh now it looks like it will be about a 20 minute wait instead so they were going to get up and leave but didnt. so then by this time we still had no food it's been atleast 20 minutes or more. So then he comes by to check on us were like ok you know still waiting on our food so then he tells us oh because of the huge group it's delayed everything in the kitchen so your orders should be coming out here shortly so we're like ok. We'll as we sit there the other table that was very patiently waiting didn't have thier drinks yet didn't have chips yet so they had ordered thier food too shortly after we did. Well then the waiter comes back tells us and the other table oh the kitchen has to take a step back because they got really frazzled from that group so then even more delay luckily we weren't in a real big hurry anyways so we were trying to be patient with him. The other couple at the other table wasn't the man at the other table with his wife talked to the waiter said something and they got up and left and the guy looked like he was pissed!! I understand about not having enough help due to covid but damn really over an hour wait if you have customers waiting that long. As a owner you need to get your ass in there and bring the wife and help out where things are lacking otherwise your business will struggle and will eventually go out of business. Word of mouth and reviews like this can have a huge impact. Correct your shit that needs to be fixed with your waiters and waitresses or you'll be shutting your doors in 3 months. This has been a pretty special place for my wife and I we had our first date here. We've had birthday parties here we've had family gatherings here we've celebrated lots of good memories here I'd hate to see such an awesome place go under because of poorly trained wait staff. read more

The food has been consistently terrible. I've tried it a total of 4 times just to see if the poor quality of food was just due to a bad night, but it's not. I've gotten a plate full of grease and cheese every time. Watery beans, taco toppings labeled as a "salad", meat that was deep-fried too much, soggy tortillas, no seasoning, no spices, they just stick deep-fried unseasoned meat in a soggy tortilla and throw POUNDS of grease and cheese on top and then serve it up. read more

WOW! I never thought a restaurant like this would be in Rexburg! The atmosphere was so fun and lively! The service is really great and fast there, our server checked on us about every 3 minuets or so to make sure we were happy and all. The food took about 10 min to get to our table, which isn't bad.
