Ate at Gringo's (Sinaloa Grill on the receipt) during our summer 2025 trip to the Gunnison, CO area. Montrose, CO is a kicking town - lots of traffic, people on the move, it was a pretty warm day in early July. This cafe is downtown right off the main drag with a corner location. At the time of our visit there was quite a bit of street and sidewalk renovation going on. Reviews sounded pretty good for the place, so we parked and walked on over. Greeted and told to sit anywhere. The lunch crowd was coming in and the place was starting to fill up with what looked to be workers from local businesses as well as family groups and friends meeting up. We placed our orders and sat around watching the people and talking. Husband ordered a quesadilla, and I ordered a torta. i must admit the torta was smaller than i expected and I could tell the waitress thought i'd made a mistake by not ordering more for lunch ... i agreed at first. I ate the torta, there was pico de gallo and such to go along with it. The husband passed me a slice of his quesadilla (it was good) and surprisingly it was all enough. Nice. DUDE!!! This place is LEGIT Mexican food. Like right off a taco truck in San Diego legit. Excellent red and green sauces. We all tried something different and everything was great. By far the best I have had in a long time. It will always be our new stop on the way between Fort Smith and DFW. I don't even leave reviews on things like this but I was just super excited to finally find something worth eating in McAlester (and open on a Sunday evening no less!). PS. I ordered an aray of tacos and the beef lengua (beef tongue) was my favorite! They were so tender and juicy. You definitely need to try it! I usually don't eat body parts like tongue but I had to give it a try! The other tacos I tried were: Carne asada (steak), al pastor (pork), and chile rojo (pork tips in red sauce). They were also delicious but once you have the beef lengua you won't want anything else! My second favorite though, was the chile rojo. The sauce was amazing, flavorful and spicy. They ran out of the chile Verde taco but next time I'll try that too! My family also got queso and chips to share. Queso was good and didn't feel too heavy either which I liked! read more

Nothing fancy, just good Mexican food. The menu is on a black board and without prices. Hard to read since it is so high up. Pretty strange. My first time here and i felt rushed to try to read the blackboard as other customers waited in line behind me. I ordered the steak burrito, not knowing what it cost. Customers pick up their orders when their order number is called. My burrito was huge. Easily two meals for me. Like others commented, the food was luke warm. Tasty but I prefer piping hot. It cost $11. Really not bad for the amount of food. They need to have printed menus with prices and serve hot food to your table and they would easily be 5 stars. read more

Legit ! I've lived in Phoenix and San Diego, and these tacos are on par with the ones I've had there. Burritos are great too. The tortillas, meats, and salsas are amazing and are all made in-house. I'd recommend the chile rojo and chile verde meats on their fresh made corn tortillas. Those have always been a favorite of mine and it's rare that a taco shop has them both. Agree the large menu on the wall could be updated to better explain items offered as well as prices. Was very surprised with the quality of food based on reviews. Chicken in my tacos was cold and I do not believe was prepared on site. My husband had cheese enchiladas that would have benefited from 60 seconds in the microwave. Beans were runny and at a state between warm and cool. A disappointing experience. I would not return. From my husband "Food was adequate. I will say, the hot sauce was good." We paid about as much for a styrofoam cup for water as we paid for a bottle of Topo Chico. With a focus on excellence and transparency, believe this taco shop would warrant more stars. read more

I Don't ever leave reviews, but strongly felt the need to advise as we were highly disappointed considering the such high reviews. This taqueria was along our route to Dallas. We chose this place based on a 4.6 google reviews. We collectively agreed these are probably the worst tacos we've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. Chicken is weird texture and flavorless, the steak is dry and tastes like ground beef and is ground up like it as well, the chorizo is mushy and oily. The salsas were also disappointing. My order of 5 tacos cost almost $17 bucks with no rice or beans. How people are giving this place high ratings is beyond us, but I give 1 star because would never consider again when traveling through the area next time. read more

Ehh, doing the bare minimum as far as Mexican street food goes. The meat was flavorless. The lengua I got could've been the steak I got aside from the texture. No garlic or salt/pepper. Have you ever eaten a baby? If you have you know what it's like to handle getting one of these burritos into your gullet. They're enormous and delicious! The atmosphere is legit. I went there for tacos and that's what I got. No fancy red, white, and green decorations. No mariachi music. Just a counter to take your order, a bare bones sign with your menu and that's it. Yeah, I'm sure they'll expand, but it was like walking in and them saying "Yo, you want tacos? That's what we got. You want the rest of that junk go to Taco Bell." They're all about business. The lack of frill just added to the appeal. Eat here and do it often. Otherwise you'll hate yourself forever and likely die miserable. read more

I came through here on a Friday night, about an hour before close. It was a SUPER COLD evening and I was only getting some tacos to-go, but I still had a good experience. I had 3 soft, corn tortillas. Chorizo, al pastor, & steak along with a side of guacamole and chips. The side of guacamole was really cheap, I think it was only $1! In fact, overall it was a good deal. The tacos were also very good, but the price is what stands out a month later. The owner was who served me and conversation was friendly and kind. He wasn't wearing a mask and if you are reading this in 2025, that may not seem like a big deal. In February of 2021, though, that was surprising. Stopped in hungry for lunch after shopping.... Will for sure return! We tried one of every taco and the quality is very high in the ingredients and flavors are very authentic! The sauces are wonderful too and very flavorful and the eighth amount of spice. You can tell the owner cares about quality of ingredients. The food was fine, but way overpriced. You have no way of knowing this because their menu does not have prices. Curious as to how my bill, of 5 small tacos, 2 bean burritos and a side of beans and rice, came to $45 I examined my receipt. They charged me $2 a piece for styrofoam cups of tap water. On the receipt is was labeled as "bottled water." I'm not sure what the laws are in Oklahoma, surrounding charging for water at a restaurant, but I know you can't sell tap water and call it bottled water. I went back to the counter, assuming there was just an error when it was rung up, but the employee informed me "this was how her boss told her to do it." She did refund my money for the waters when I requested. $6 for a BEAN burrito even a large burrito is also a total rip off. Wouldn't have ordered that if the prices were listed. read more

I work in McAlester at least once a month, and I order from Gringo's usually twice when I'm here! LOVE LOVE LOVE their "street" style tacos and the Gringo burrito is 2 meals for me! Filled with all the good stuff and delicious! Salsa, guacamole and chips are all homemade and so fresh.
