I met some friends at Grit City Breakfast on a Saturday morning. We had never been there but the menu on line looked good so gave it a try. We were greeted by a friendly server who took care of us very well. We all got something a little different and we were all happy with our meal. I had blueberry pancakes and yum, they were delicious. The coffee was good too! We didn't feel crowded with the tables too close together. We were celebrating birthdays so we enjoyed being able to chat for a while afterwards. When we got there at 11:00 there were a few open tables, then it filled up and had no tables open. We were there several hours and would have left if they needed the table but it never came to that. They barely put any gravy on my chicken fried steak, so I asked "can I have little extra gravy, there is barely any gravy on this". she replied "no problem", also they charged extra to my friend when selecting his bread , he chose biscuit, And they didn't say there was an extra charge for that. $5 for gravy and $5 for the biscuit. Whenever I travel I struggle to find places to have breakfast, my partner is a traditional breakfast person (meat, dairy and eggs) and I need a place with vegan options besides potatoes. He was actually the one to discover this gem and I approved it based solely on a quick glance at the menu where I noted the word vegan. From the outside it was slightly hidden, and I did not realize beforehand that it was actually located inside the Tacoma Comedy Club. It was a weekday but we were the only people dining in, but they seemed to be doing tons of take out business. I'm guessing they are new to the food scene and this was a turn to make some money when covid made places like this switch their business plan. I must say I find it quite ingenious, even when things return to normal this space must be deserted during the day time hours. Plus dining here had the added bonus of making me want to come back for a comedy night, which they are doing currently, and if you are concerned tables looked decently spaced apart. We were seated in one of the back booths and had a great view of the stage. My vegan breakfast burrito was delicious and only 8.99$, best of all it had both fake meat (impossible sausage), fake cheese (daiya mozzarella), veggies and tots on the inside. They were also nice enough to hold the mushrooms for me. It ended up being too big for me to finish, but was equally tasty a few hours later. This would make for the perfect grab and go item, but might be good to call and order ahead. I also was tempted by the avocado toast and would consider trying that on a future visit. I can't recall what my partner had but he liked it. I do see that the lunch menu seems to be lacking a vegan option, but hopefully this is something they will remedy. I will plan to dine here again on my next breakfast venture in Tacoma, maybe this weekend. I do wish I had noted what the parking situation was like in this area. read more

Stopped in for our Sunday brunch as a fam. If you haven't been, you are actually eating in the Tacoma Comedy Club. It's a cool use of space that would otherwise be empty during the day. Makes for a fun breakfast location. The soft drink gun was offline so mocktails were tricky and sodas weren't 100% available. But we all adapt and it shouldn't be a problem for anyone visiting. Our server did have to take my drink order three times - it was a hectic morning for the staff (there was a massive party and a number of other filled tables). She was very friendly and it was no big deal. We ordered a Lox Ness Monster, Classic Breakfast, Attack of the Meats burrito, and some pancakes. We washed this down with a Cinderella (mocktail), pineapple juice, and an iced tea. As with drinks, the ordering process took a few tries. She retained her composure and friendly attitude throughout. Food took a while and our poor server's woes were compounded when she dropped the biscuits off the plate on delivery. The burrito was very good and the lox ness monster was tasty as well. The classic breakfast was as expected (fairly institutional) - nicely sized sausage patty. She replaced the biscuits very quickly and added some tots (for the few that fell). We told her none of this was a worry which she misinterpreted as asking to take the biscuits off the bill which we quickly addressed. We didn't want that at all, we just wanted her to be able to breathe. The food was good and we would recommend stopping by. Please tip the servers well when they're slammed.
