I had a customer coming to my work that was wearing a flying tomato jacket. So I asked her about the menu and the hours that they were open. The very next day, my roommate and I went there for breakfast and we're very impressed. I will come back again.I had eggs benedict and my roommate had sausage and eggs. Both of my orders were perfect. Just the way we ordered our eggs.The hollandaise sauce with spot on. We will be back again now that I find out that their pizzas are the same. Vowed never to go back, but we did with family for breakfast. Now I'll not return! Food preparation was terrible. Bacon was undercooked and requested it to be cooked a bit crispier, so the two orders that went back were DEEP FRIED and not eatable. Gravy and biscuits looked and tasted like the instant kind. Toast was stale. We actually left three plates of food on the table...not even touched. This establishment needs attention. No wonder they never seem busy. Just visited Flying Tomato for the first time and I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed. I had heard great things about this place but overall, the atmosphere could have been much better. Bring down the lighting a bit to create a nice ambiance. The appetizers were very disappointing for the prices. A plate of loaded tots consists of about 23ish tater tots with a very small amount of cheese that is shredded. Not what I expected and five jalapeño slices and some bacon bits. At least it was real bacon. The zucchini was pretty bland too. The cucumber sauce tasted good though. Most of the entrees were okay as far as sandwiches and burgers go. The kids all seemed to like the pasta, and I had a pizza but for wood fired, it seemed soggy. The crust didn't hold up well but they are generous with the toppings. We had a Dutch party there but because of having 13 persons, they automatically charged a gratuity which we felt wasn't deserved since items were forgotten, we had to ask or remind our waitress of multiple items, and the place was not busy, we also felt a little neglected overall. They did give us a free desert since we were celebrating a birthday and for that we are grateful. We made a reservation for 6:30PM and were informed upon arrival that they close at 8:00PM. The waitress told us that some people had run late last year in February and at 8:15PM on the dot, the lights in the restaurant turn off on a timer that she has no control over. This leads me to think that the owners are some prudish hardcore control freaks, and I have to honestly say that this kind of crap makes me not want to revisit places. If you can't accommodate some paying customers who overstay a bit than you must not really want the customers in the first place. You close at 8PM for goodness' sake! Respectfully inform patrons that you'll be closing soon but for goodness' sake, don't turn the lights out on them! If someone hurts themselves leaving your establishment after your lights go off, you're looking at a nice lawsuit. I hope you figure out your life because micromanaging from afar is NOT the way to successfully run a business. I would visit this place again but mostly to see if things change for the better. I have tried nearly everything on their menu now. They have made a few little tweaks here and there, improving their already outstanding offerings. For breakfast today, I had their eggs Benedict on crab cakes! Eggs cooked to perfection! Hollandaise sauce was exquisite! The meal was delightful, fulfilling and delicious. The portion size was shockingly small--more like a 6-piece chicken nugget meal meant for two people. I ended up having just one piece before sliding the plate over to my father. Next came the Ragin Cajun entree, served in what looked like a cereal bowl. While the portion size was decent, I couldn't help but compare it to Olive Garden, and let me just say--it didn't measure up. The dish consisted of sausage, shrimp, and chicken with pasta, generously seasoned with Cajun spices. However, the saltiness was overwhelming, and I can see how many patrons might find it off-putting, even though I tend to salt my food more than most. For comparison: Olive Garden's Calamari: $13.30 Flying Tomato's Calamari: $15 Olive Garden's Chicken & Shrimp Carbonara: $24 Flying Tomato's Ragin Cajun: $22 When it comes to value, Olive Garden is the clear winner. Wow! This establishment even after moving across town amazingly finds ways to make you come back for more. They now serve breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner. Went back after previously having a pretty good experience for breakfast. The person working was super friendly and attentive. If it was just based on her, 5 stars. The food... I wouldn't consider anything hot. The omelette was kinda rubbery and didn't have much flavor, not like the previous visit. The biggest issue was the hashbrowns they were burnt on the bottom, and made them taste it bitter. It almost seemed like they were purposefully put on the plate to hide they were over cooked. Overall, I think I'd probably go with another option over coming back again, which is a bummer because Spanaway does not have many options. read more

I was disappointed with big hopes. I was looking forward to a nicely crisped hash browns portion with a true sunnyside up egg order. Saw the reviews, figured it couldn't be that bad right? I got it delivered and it was TERRIBLE! I got the Ragin Cajun and garlic bread. The sauce was clumpy and barely even passes as a sauce. Extremely oily and separated clumps. The noodles weren't properly cooked. The sausage has this unappetizing grey color to it. The chicken looks like they got it from some chicken Caesar salad pack at the grocery store. The garlic bread was literally a soft loaf of bread drizzled with melted butter and topped with seemingly raw garlic. For the price I expected WAY better. Applebees is better! I went to Flying Tomato after they first opened in Spanaway. They seemed to specialize in Italian food, but didn't offer any soup. On April 2, 2025 I decided to give them one more try and our family went to celebrate my mom's birthday. EPIC FAILURE ‼ First thing I asked was if they now offered soup, and was thrilled to see they did, however, the soup that day was "onion soup". I like French onion soup, however their soup was plain onion soup - broth with onions. WUT⁉ Yuck! My brothers ordered sandwich meals, and my mom and I split a "chopped salad". Shortly after the food arrived, the manager appeared at our table holding a plate with sliced cheese and said the kitchen forgot to put cheese on BOTH their sandwiches. The bread had no mayo which made it dry. Every chopped salad I've ever seen has all the lettuce, veggies, meat and cheese chopped bite size and tossed in Italian type dressing. This one, however, came with huge chunks of lettuce, a couple veggies and "oriental " dressing which was basically just balsamic vinegar! I called the manager over and asked where the meats and cheese were. The kitchen left that off too, so he came back with a plate of 6 pieces of salami, cheese and pepperoncini. Party of 6 ! My sister and all our kids (ages 14-5) came to have breakfast. The new remodel is beautiful! The food was super delicious. All of us ordered something different. Pancakes were SO good. We were excited to have a new restaurant in Spanaway as our options are limited. We were specifically excited about an Italian spot, as there are none around. The first time we all ordered pasta dishes. I ordered the chicken parm, as this is my go to test out a new spot. I find it hard for a restaurant to mess up chicken parm. But they did here. My child ordered the kids spaghetti dish. The marinara sauce is just brutal. It's obviously jar sauce and not homemade. In fact it's probably the worst marinara sauce I've ever had. Willing to give this place another chance, we went back recently to give their pizza a try. You can't mess up a pizza, right? Wrong. No flavor whatsoever and highly overpriced. I had heard mixed reviews so decided to try it tonight. Started out well with quick service and a decent entree. We got the Tuscan Chicken. Pasta was good. Chicken was a little dry and needed more seasoning. We ordered the dessert cannoli trio. It was on the menu as a cannoli, a brownie and spumoni. We got a dry cannoli, a delicious brownie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream with hersheys syrup. It was laughable. 20 dollars for the pasta and 13 dollars for a 5 dollar dessert.
