I love Grocery Outlet on River Rd. It is super clean, well-stocked and they have great sales prices. But if you go off the flyer, the prices are not up to date. So it is vital for you to know the price of each item as it is rung up. This occurs at Safeway/ Albertsons out here too so it isn't personal. I USE TO like Grocery Outlet on River Rd in Eugene very much, but since the former (woman) store mgr retired, I've noticed it's declined. Too often I've found now I have to take pics of the shelve's sale signs for proof because the sale prices aren't programmed into the system & not at the register. It's a hassle, tbh. Then, IF you've found the mistake after you've gotten home, when you go back to G.O. with your receipt to show the mistake, they then want you ALSO to have that item to scan it (how many ppl expect they'd have to doTHAT?!?). Due to this means you too often lose out on getting those in-store sale prices THEY goofed up & you ended up getting stuck with the full price when you likely wouldn't have bought that item had it not been posted as a sale. And even tho it was the store's mistake & you have a pic of the shelve's sale sign, it still has to be brought to their attn within 30 days from when you bought it! NOT very customer-friendly, IMO! Fred Meyer operates screwy like this & it's exhausting shopping there because of this. I actually think it is a deliberate scam on FM's part (their employees think so, too) & am wondering if G.O. is copping this tactic, too. There also was a great sale on canned tuna months ago. The last day of the sale, the shelf sign was missing so I asked the mgr about it. He acted like he had no clue about the sale & I believe it was on for 2 wks! Stores shouldn't be taking down or switching their signs around before sales have ended or post them on the shelf before the sale has started (Fred Meyer is also notorious for this confusion & deception!). After like 20 min, I finally got the mgr to cooperate & make sure I received the great sale price on the tuna. By then, I had to scramble because the store was soon to close. IMO, it was an unnecessary hassle - the mgr should have been aware of this exceptional deal AND not had the employees remove the sign before the sale was over. He wasn't exactly quick to accommodate me, either, & the store was soon to close (he should've hustled, but initially seemed uninterested in solving the matter). Another thing that's obvious is the produce & other perishables quality is a gambit. I'd say ~30% of the time something goes bad quickly or IS already bad when you buy it...but you don't know until you cut into it or unwrap the pkg (like specialty cheese). Rotting watermelons (inside them), sweet potatoes, garlic, orchids that begin to die within 2 days (& I use to have 22 orchids at one time in my life - I *DO* know how to grow them!). It just gets tiring to deal with & it adds up to quite a loss of $$$ within the year. Not the bargain place it USE to be when you're buying unknown spoiled products! And, no, these items weren't beyond any expiration dates. Lastly, my next complaint is regarding corporate. Many yrs ago I signed up to receive emailed notices of their sales. It was a real advantage to receive these because I could plan my shopping around these deals. I rarely shopped until I DID receive these notifications. Well! NOW G.O. is NOT showing the whole ad, but trying to force you to get their app to access it. I don't do apps unless absolutely necessary for my devices to function. Apps take your info & expect you to blindly agree to them using it & sharing/selling it to 3rd parties, which I refuse (I covet my privacy!). I've contacted G.O. at least 3x to complain about this new tactic of theirs but whomever is responding gives me a clueless response or gives me a pat, unhelpful answer. Once AGAIN, they need to know my shopping there has GREATLY DECREASED because I'm not freely receiving their weekly sale ads anymore. I hope other customers aren't buying into this current tactic so G.O. will go back to customers being able to see the emailed sale ads w/o this irritating catch that's trying to force their customers into signing up for their app. Which, btw, their employees, especially the cashiers, know the G.O. app has lotsa bugs in it! read more

I've put the bag or box right where the item comes off the scanner, and these idiots will move it out of the way to spread your purchase all over the counter. We have shopped at Grocery Outlet since I was little, and it was called Rainbow Foods (... now that I think of it, it was probably only us that called it that), and the only location was in Springfield, and it was in a warehouse-like building in Glenwood. Since then, Grocery Outlet has become a much more polished store (no more white-wrapped cans with a mystery inside) with a variety of items. My mom has worked at this store for over 20 years now and it keeps getting better. The Eugene store (since the stores differ in their offerings) has a wine tasting monthly, and occasionally more often during the holidays. They have a very large wine and beer section rivaling Albertsons or Safeway. They also have carved a niche in their organic / gluten free / other special dietary items, offering a pretty large selection in those categories. You can find overstock private-label brands here, all the way up to gourmet cheese (for example, this past November, 2019, they had wedges of Caveman Blue from Rogue Creamery--a company who took Best in Show at the October 2019 World Cheese Awards, a coveted award that no other North American company has earned). A word of warning to the uninitiated: Shopping Grocery Outlet is kind of like a treasure hunt, with the bonus being great prices and some great finds. I like perusing the aisles at Grocery Outlet, seeing what's new and trying something that I'm unfamiliar with. That may not be everyone's cup of tea, though. It's important to know that GO doesn't always carry the same items, and while they may often or usually have something, it's possible that it won't always be there. Also be aware that their bag prices may be slightly higher than some places. It is 10 cents for a paper bag, and 15 cents for a plastic one. They might occasionally have boxes to use for groceries but it's a better bet to either bring your own or prepare to pay for them. read more

Currently, the prices for most products are way MORE than a conventional grocery store. Plus, many items are passed their sell by dates. This GO isn't in the best of neighborhoods and yet their selection of products is very good and their customer service is even better! My friend had tried some drinks from the location an hour north of here and was kicking herself for not buying more. When we got to this location the next day the manager showed us where we could find the drinks and then brought out stuff from the back that wasn't even on display. I've never had such good customer service at a Grocery Outlet and I was so impressed by the manager here! I will make a point of coming here the next time I visit! read more

Hey, I love a treasure hunt! Sometimes you get gourmet dried mushroom jerky, some days you get slightly not ok produce. It's always a surprise and you can't beat their price for LaCroix! (well, sometimes WinCo has a killer sale on that, but Gross Out is my usual go to.) It's a bit lacking in charm (not the south side country club atmosphere of Market of Choice), and the checkout staff are just this side of surly but I respect that- you ain't paying for the Trader Joe's chatty ness and frankly, I'd rather bag my own food and not interact more than politeness requires. I am not so sure about this store. I had a food card skimmed twice. I lost over $300. The card said I had money in the account and the cashier acted like she knew nothing about this. I have gone to Freddie's and Winco and never had a problem. Why? I also changed my pin on the website only to discover that someone took even more and I have $13 left in the account. DHS says, " it's gone, we can't help you, go to a food bank." Oh great! peanut butter and noodles. Yeah, right. Be sure to check the dates on the product. Twice my family has gone to the Grocery Outlet on River Road and the riding carts for handicapped people were not charged. Both times it was fairly early in the day and they could have been charged all night and ready for 11:00 a.m. use. Both times they lost sales because we cannot shop without one. Now after two times it's like "Why bother to stop and try to shop there if they can't even charge the carts?" Fortunately there are two other grocery stores in the immediate area. This location gets 5 stars because they've improved over the years while the one in Springfield took a nosedive. Grocery Outlet is a store that typically buys items that are about to expire or were over-produced, and can sell them at a cheaper price. So finding what you're looking for here can be very hit and miss. Although I've found this store to be the most consistent in stocking products. They have a huge wine section, which is bigger than many stores, so if you're looking for a decent wine for a party or a gift, it's not a bad place for that. All of their price tags show their price and "everywhere else" prices, which aren't always accurate. It's really all about being an educated consumer and checking multiple stores out for prices. The employees are always really friendly and helpful here, which I like. At the one in Springfield, they are super grumpy and not remotely helpful. Here it's the opposite. It's a drive to go to this store, but it's worth it versus the store in Springfield, because they have better employees and a much better selection. read more

I also love how they sell other items sucks a medicines and basic household needs. Carol the cashier is usually working when I go in there she is so pleasant and can tell she cares for her customers. I'm so happy to have found The Grocery Outlet on River Road. This location is clean and all the employees that I have interacted with have been quite pleasant. There's a NOSH section for natural and organic items and it's usually pretty well stocked. As a vegetarian I save tons of money on veggie burgers, etc. I also find solid gluten free bargains for my son. The cheese section is bomb. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because my produce purchases have been hit or miss. A bargain is only a bargain if we actually eat the food and not throw it out because the avocados in the bags were over ripe or the mandarin oranges were dry inside. Also, as other people have mentioned, double check the expiry dates on the food. I don't mind if the date is approaching, I just don't stock the cabinets with it and only buy what I'll eat before the time is up. So, to sum it up ... Clean and happy market with rotating stock. You'll save big bucks but will have to plan on eating or freezing your purchases not long after getting them home. read more

Racially profiled & was denied an alcohol sale (wine with my groceries ) At the time I had on sweats & comfortable clothes & I truly believe it was because I'm dark skinned & the clothes I was wearing. Judy (the manager) told me she would not sell me the alcohol & when I asked why she could not give me a reason she just say she has the right to not sell it. I always like shopping at the Grocery Outlets - one can get many things at highly reduced prices, and sometimes they are unusual items not readily found elsewhere. Of course, they don't have everything - they deal in over-runs and surplus items, though they try to keep a reasonable selection of produce, cheese, lunchmeats, frozen and canned foods, etc. stocked. If you like something and its a bargain, then stock up on it - it may not be there next time you come. The Eugene Grocery Outlet is out in the Santa Clara suburb NW of Eugene. It's not a very large Grocery Outlet for a town as big as Eugene. I often find more of interest in the Springfield branch. Still, if you live in the western part of Eugene, you won't do wrong by shopping here. read more

I love shopping at Grocery Outlet. It's a great way to save some money, or even feel ok about "splurging" on some things you wouldn't normally purchase. It's also a great place to find some surprising deals, as long as you are comfortable with knowing what is ok to purchase past the expiration date. NEVER GO HERE! Apparently it's illegal for someone over 21 to buy alcohol if their wife is with them. WTF. The cashier called over three managers to verify that I could buy the hard ciders and ignored them each time. This is after I told her to remove the alcohol from checkout so we could leave. She would not let us leave and snapped at customer and managers alike when they told her she was wrong. The alcohol in question? A six pack of hard cider. She only let us leave after all of the managers told her to let me buy it. read more

I stopped in here a few years ago & hated it but it's different now: classier than before, although still a little bit on the dive side. But what isn't on the dive side in Santa Clara? The selections have improved since I was last in here about 6 years ago. Some of the prices are better right next door at BiMart but there are certainly some deals to be had. I love stopping in there to pick up stuff quick, especially if BiMart is already closed (GO is open until 9pm) & I don't need to hassle with a trip to Freddies, this way. Huge heads up: the cheese section! Creamy Havarti for a fraction of what you would pay elsewhere! They have organic grated Parmesan also, although I'm not sure how it rates pricewise. This store very disappointed with dishonesty. They really should be required to fix ALL the price signs that are dishonest. I'm surprised they have not been cited for this. Many examples you will notice, one is: the half and half. The sign says there price is 2.39, compared to others at 2.99 or even higher. There is NO truth to this. I have priced half n half at MANY stores in Eugene. This grocery outlet is the second highest, where Haagen'snat highest, was 20 cents higher. Market of Choice and Walmart sell the SAME brand for 1.99. I have NEVER seen 2.99 or above in ANY store. This is just one example, there are MANY more with even higher ranges of dishonesty. Great selection if you know the time to go. Most of the time you need to check the date, it's almost always expired. Has deals on quite a few items, .50 cent fruit snacks, dollar packs of cakes that are usually two dollars. For the most part, it's not the cheapest in town just like WinCo seems to think. Grocery Outlet has some of the best deals around! When you are looking to save some money but still buy quality products then this is your place. The items they have change so what you may buy one time might not be there when you come back. You have to shop strategically here and might not be able to get all your groceries on your list but what you do find will be an awesome deal! The things I buy here that they have great deals on are coffee, wine, cheese, eggs, protein bars, nut butters, some produce, and some organic items like olive oil, hemp milk etc. They also have more conventional and generic brands as well but I really appreciate that they have organic items in their store. Some stuff I wanted to buy just because it was a good deal and I didn't even need it! If you are on a budget and need to save some money then this is a really great place to stop by and check out. While my husband was looking for cart I noticed a young male checker covering his mouth with his hands several times while he coughed and he returned to check his customers groceries without using any hand sanitizer. When I walked up to him and pointed this out (I am a Stage 4 cancer patient) he started yelling at me that everyone in the store was sick so he didn't have to sanitize his hands. He was very rude! Horridly rude. I then talked to his supervisor who said she would talk to him but didn't seem to concerned. Will never shop there again. If I owned that store I would have fired him! read more

I love this kind of hodge-podge store - you never know what you'll find. What they have in stock can be a little hit-or-miss, and that makes it impractical for one's primary grocery stop.
