At the corner of Newark and Mayhews Landing, the Grocery Outlet in Newark is an older and smaller store, but does have a little bit of everything. We stopped by on a trip as we were passing through and wanted to pick up some snacks. They did have quite a bit of produce, dairy, eggs, breads, cereal, meats, etc, but alas they didn't have the snacks we were looking for, namely chicharones which we eat like chips. I also noticed there weren't that much plants/vegetable seedling starts for sale compared to other GO's. Staff were mostly busy checking customers, but when I stopped a staff to ask for the chips section, he was friendly and pointed the way despite looking busy and on his way to getting something or taking care of some business. The store is on the small side and felt a bit cluttered even though it is organized. There's just not that much space and so some aisles looked kinda of random, with categories of items put together that don't go together that well, for example, having snacks in two different sections of the store. There was not much of a NOSH (natural organic stuff) aisle either, but for a smaller grocery store, it's not bad. read more

This is the closest Groc Out to my home, but it is not my 'regular' one. I drive a few miles more to the Fremont one, that one is a tad bigger, thus better spacing for my preference. But this is the first Grocery Outlet to enter my area, so I have known of it since the early 2000s. I had just mentioned that this is one of smaller Groc Outs I have ever been in. And for some reason it is harder for me to find things here, or find the right aisles. I think it is because it looks like they expanded their space and took over the space next door. Right when I think I reached the end of the store, the liquor, chips and snacks curl around the corner, not visible from the other side of the store. I'm also not a fan of the parking lot here, just an older style of retail strip type of parking. Tighter and more chaotic when busy. And this location is definitely busy, the neighborhood just fits this grocery mode. Always a line at the registers and just hope they have enough registers open to move lines along. Usually they are pretty good. But the pricing here is still pretty darn good, given you know what you want. I pretty much know what Grocery Outlet is good for and also what to avoid, so I'm not too shocked at their quirkiness. It is actually the draw for me. Newark Groc Out is my alternative but more convenient location. I'll consistently go, but not my choice if I have time. read more

Attended this location recently and discovered I hadn't been to this location in at least fifteen years. Glad to stop by. Initially I was tempted by the flower pots they had displayed, but decided to pass on them and see what type of sustenance they had available inside. Surprised . Purchased some spaghetti sauce, crackers, cheeses, can of beer (some type of Belgian blonde ale from a Northern California microbrewery) and almost a pink pony pale ale that was just too pricey for my budget. $5 approximately per can, 4 pack at 6.9% alcohol content. Glad I passed. The best memorable item I purchased was two bags of backstage popcorn. This popcorn is actually pretty good and addicting. The story goes that the Jonas brothers asked a friend, the producer, to make some popcorn for them for their green room for when the band, I believed, warmed up. (This story dates back a significant amount of time into the past.). A light treat that tastes amazing. Also bought a wooden six inch tall Easter egg that I may add color to. Also next door, to the left of the storefront there is a Dollar store with some decent items to purchase if you really look deep into items that have a useable purpose besides just decoration. I bought more than I was expecting. You may want check them out yourself. I could not find a listing for the dollar store next door so I'm listing and reviewing them as an attached review to my Grocery Outlet visit. I sincerely hope GO doesn't mind my addition. I've been coming to this store regularly for the past couple of years, and you cannot beat Grocery Outlets prices for many items: blueberries (fresh or frozen), strawberries, and basically all their frozen items from entrees to ice cream. The best deals on fruits and vegetables are typically outside the store, so I walk through there first. I also want to give a big THANK YOU to the owner/management of the store for setting up all the family themed events at Newark Grocery Outlet! I was lucky enough to take our toddler to their easter egg hunt earlier this year, and recently taking family pictures with Santa Clause and Mrs. Clause in front of the store. And Santa Clause was also nice enough to gift us a little snowman too! read more

Well, it's been over two years since Richard had left the store, and well, the previous owners that took over have now left for West San Jose Grocery Outlet. Fast forward to now, 2023 and I've met one of the new owners, Jesus and he seems very nice and it's good to see him working around the store. That makes things look very promising for this store! We generally come here for milk, as they have reasonable prices, and so far, with the new owners, we have not encountered any expired milk being sold anymore! Plus, the pricing is starting to return back to being lower, like when Richard ran the store. Things are finally back to looking promising again after a short period of dismay with the previous owners selling mostly expired stuff and high pricing. Will update as Jesus and partner continue to run the store and hopefully decide to actually invest in the store and stay. read more

I have a low star rating due to the unclean carts about a year ago. It's safe now! New owners and now this store, as small as it is, is more organized than many others in the area. They get the organized award from me. And I know because I really do "shop at GO first" every single month. Super nice new owners and the aisles look like a "Flagship store". Excellent l!!! Grocery Outlet Bargain Market is our go to first stop for groceries and when the owner is here, we can rest assured we'll be well taken care of with any questions. Why three stars then? - prices have recently gone up on a few staples (butter, etc.) and as a result, I've been actually able to get a better deal at Safeway or Target - sometimes staples just aren't available (sugar, unsalted butter) - some things are not well labeled so pricing is unclear or they're put in the wrong place (chocolate chips for baking in the candy section) This is still my go to, but I'd hope to see some of these things get better before raising my rating again. read more

I feel strange writing a review on a bargain chain store, but you know I LOVE me some Grocery Outlet, Baybee! Yea, yea, yea, I know--they at times have outdated food, they have off brands, AND if you see something that looks too good to be true, then you better hurry up and buy it because it WILL be gone the next time you come. So you see, Grocery Outlet is like a hidden treasure; you go looking for it and if you find it, it's golden! I first discovered this store as I was trying to expand my horizon and look at what other stores have available. One thing I have noticed about Grocery Outlet is that they cater to the community that they serve. Yes, they all have nice stocked fruits and veggies, but when it comes to snacks, every store and alcohol is very different. This store is located near a residential community. Imagine if I lived walking distance from here....AHH, just thinking about it now brings a glorious smile on my face! I would be truly in heaven. Located in a small shopping center, this Grocery Outlet is fully stocked and always has good options. This store has a well-stocked selection of wines (reds and whites) and even will order wines if you request it to the store. I walked in two weeks ago and the co-owner was talking to a couple of guys who were buying over 10 bottles of red wine. They informed me that the wines would easily cost over $80 and at Grocery Outlet it was for the low of $7.99. WOWZERS! The co-owner came around and informed the men that if they needed her to order more they can just put a request in and they would have the shipment within the following week. I was amazed to hear that! A person that goes out of their way to help their customers. Gotta' love people's customer services skills when it's done right! This is one of my favorite Grocery Outlet stores to shop at and I am looking forward to continuously coming here! Way to go, Newark! You know exactly what to do to keep me coming back! read more

There are three Grocery Outlets in my area. I believe the biggest location out of the three is the one in Hayward by Jackson Ave. This location in Newark is on the smaller side. Grocery Outlet is a great place to shop if you are not looking for something in particular such as an ingredient for a recipe because it's not a regular grocery store. Grocery Outlet does not carry a huge selection of different products but they do carry a lot of staples. If you have time to look around, there's a lot of hidden gems at great prices. They seem to slash a lot of items up to 90 percent when it's very close to its expiration date and it's basically made for immediate consumption. Also they don't always carry the same items all the time so if you like something, it's best to get it now because what they have now will more likely not come back once it sells out. They do sell more than groceries. They carry plants in a pot, toys, housewares, gardening decor, make up, electronics so it's like a little version of Wal-Mart only their prices are on the lower side and some brands are not your regular everyday brands that you're usually familiar with. They do carry other brands as well. On this particular shopping trip, I found 8.1 Fl. oz. cans of Calamansi juice for .25 cents a can (plus 0.5 CRV deposit). These are usually around $1 at my local Filipino stores. It's still got one month left before it expires. I also found full size 3.52 oz. Toblerone chocolates, which is one of my favorite chocolates, at 2 for .97/each. This has less than a month left before it expires. So shopping here is always a hit or miss. I like that they have a huge parking lot. They have clean restrooms and it's on the back wall where they keep the chips and snacks. This store is inside a shopping complex and has little shops next to it like a Mexican bakery. One of the things that I don't like here is that the aisles are a bit smaller than the one in Hayward and you really can't hang out in one spot too long since there's always someone that needs to get through. Those electric wheelchairs will have an impossible time getting around here. I know they need to put as much merchandise out for sale which is why it's so tight to get around here. Another thing that can use some improvement is sometimes the items are not clearly mark what the price is. Unfortunately, they do not have price scanners and I don't feel like going in the long lines just to ask. On today's visit, three items that I was interested in doesn't have any tags at all so I just left it. Also, I don't think they have enough shopping carts or it's not being rounded up fast enough. We shop at Grocery Outlet, at one of their locations, at least once a month to stock up on some items and to check out new items. There's always something new here. read more

Impressively clean and well organized as a bargain market! My favorites are the large area dedicated to alcohol, and an aisle for healthy foods. There is usually no more than two cashiers at work at any time. Perhaps they could convert some of the space to self-check out to speed up the process for shoppers with only a few items. read more

I live 5 minutes from the store and my merchandise was in the air conditioning of my car. Vegetables in bad condition, many products expired. It is no longer a good store for me. Singing ... " Grocery outlet.. Bargain Marketttt.." Yup, This place is like another Food Maxx but much smaller. Since this place is close to my office, I come here to get lettuce and meat for my dieting days, and junk food when I am feeling fabulous. The deals are sometimes too good to be true, so take a look at the expiration date. Some of the meats are borderline expiration, so if its a little TOO cheap, take a step back. There is one kind lady at the front door who greets you as you come in and out, and one other cashier that is usually working that is quite friendly as well. Ouuu, sometimes if you spend more than $50-60 , there's a little wheel you can spin to get like a $4 off coupon. I've hit it 2x! On my last visit, it wasn't there anymore tho :( I'll tell you guys a little secret. This is where I come to get my blinged out coffee cups and water containers lol. read more

Since we are getting a Grocery Outlet in Fremont, I thought I'd take a look at what I could expect. Best description that comes to mind, Big Lots but more grocery (fresh, produce, frozen) items. I saw brands that were unfamiliar, but I also saw many name brands. I saw some very good prices on items and average prices as well. Overall, cheaper than Safeway, Raley's, etc., but about the same price as as Smart & Final and Walmart. The store is clean and well stocked. I'll check out the Fremont store when it opens. read more

Swung by here tonight to pickup 20 lemons for my 2nd batch of lemon sorbet. They were 10 for a dollar, which I thought was really cheap considering the next cheapest I found was $0.25/ea (FoodMaxx). The tray of lemons were situated on a shelf above my height. I asked one of the store employees if they can help me lower it so I can pick/choose the lemons. They helped out with no issues. After I got my lemons, I walked around the store to browse what other items they carry. Surprisingly, they have a diverse selection of many items. Kinda reminds me of a 99 cent store but with items selling for over 99 cents. The store was pretty clean, well lit, and items were organized. Employees are friendly and helpful. Most importantly, the checkout line was short and fast. As a note, the lemons I picked up were a bit smaller than other grocery stores. It took all 20 lemons in order for me to juice 2 1/2 cup of lemon juice. But for the price, I've no problem stopping by again in the near future when I'm ready to make another batch of lemon sorbet. read more

New Owners Scottie and his wife, nice people but unfortunately wants to turn more profit and run it like Safeway. I use to come here once a week, to see the bargains, near expiring items that are worth a try and buy my "normal" stuff like milk, and impulsive buying, chips, candy, etc. Old owners(Aaron)did a great job of keeping prices down, keeping a selection up, but now prices on the same exact things jumped up, A LOT less "bargain" near expiration products. I understand owners can decide how to price things but each time I go in there, I discuss with another customer how much the selection prices have changed for the worst and it's putting a bad reputation on the new owners, less traffic which equal less profit. I never walked out of Grocery outlet with an empty cart for the last 6 years, but I did the last 2 times, that's a clear indicator, things are not good. I hope the new owners notice a drop in traffic and start running it the way grocery outlets are supposed to run, rather than trying to turn a maximum profit. It's very very noticeable, not even subtle. Here is the business model of Grocery outlet: provide a big selection of near expiring goods to get traffic in the store. People buy those and also buy their "normal" stuff, milk etc, and impulsively buy the regular stuff, and that's how they make money. For the past 2 months, it's basically Safeway / Sprouts prices, the selection is a lot more limited, a lot fewer bargains, and for that, I'll just go to the closest supermarket of sprouts and Safeway. Unfortunately, at this rate, the new owners are gonna run the store into the ground unless he goes back to the actual business model of bargain products/ bargain prices, which includes plenty of the near expiring stuff. At these times when the cost of food gas and shelter are so exorbitantly Hi this is actually a good place to go shopping for basic items. Be cautious to also check the expression dates on many of their products products. They have many good deals that you could pick up pick up as well as fruits and vegetables.. I've been going to Grocery Outlet for years now. It's one of my favorite stores. You can spend forever in here looking at all their hidden gems. I love their candy section and their vegetables. But everything is much cheaper than the stores. I found my favorite mainade, Yoshida's, there for $1.99. The only thing about Grocery Outlet Is you have to come every week because the next week it will probably be gone, and you'll have missed out. They have a great beer selection and it changes CONSTANTLY. This is probably my favorite place to shop for and try new beers. I know Grocery Outlet isn't for everyone, but I love this place. I took off 1 star because they need to work on their customer service. But, I'll never stop coming. read more

Still the best grocery store around. I think there has recently been a change in management and the place has been cleaner and more organized than ever. The prices are always great and as long as you are not a brand loyalist you will find a great selection of all kinds of food items. Friendly staff and just great overall customer service. Normally I enjoy going to this store for their variety of higher quality/organic products for less. This is awesome right! It's too bad they have checkers like Christina with a sour attitude. It stink when the customer goes out of their way to say "Hi! How are you doing today?" She mumbled "Alright" in the rudest un-engaging tone. This place is the Ross of prepackaged food: The stock is all near its expiration date but you never know what you will find. If you do find something good (German Xmas gingerbread) it won't be here the next time you show up. In that sense it is kind of like the ghetto Trader Joe's. On the bright side, their prices on staples (milk, butter, flour, etc.) are pretty good and they almost always have them in stock (unsalted butter seems to be a problem). They do stock a pretty wide range of stuff including toiletries, canned goods, meats, and fresh vegetables. They are open until 9 most nights so having this place nearby saves me from paying tons of cash at 7-11 or driving over to Safeway. read more

So - I wouldn't go here for produce. When I was walking by the tomatoes inside, I noticed mold on their stems. Not a good sign! Some of the produce they had outside looked okay though... I might go for onions or other things that take longer to go bad if the price was right - but not for items that need to be more fresh! So that was the down-side of the Grocery Outlet in Newark.... Now let me explain the good thing about this place. I'm strongly considering going here for our weekly dairy run, even though its *way* out of my way! The reason being is that their milk, butter and eggs are extremely low priced. They had smart balance for .99 and eggs for 1.50 a dozen. Also, olive oil is a great deal here too. So it makes it a great stock-up place for some basics. They didn't have much else in the isles that I'd be interested in... they have some canned goods and if I ever need to stock up on things like cans of diced tomatoes because I'm making a soup and don't feel like cutting a ton of tomatoes, I'll think of this place. But they also carry a lot of junk food and stuff with high fructose corn syrup that I won't get for our family. So mostly, if I shop here - it would be for the milk, eggs, butter and olive oil. Just the basics that our family seems to go through a lot!
