I shop here a lot and day to day this place is pretty good. The reason I wanted to write this is to give a shout out to management. Two times I bought food that wasn't what I wanted (over-ripe bad avocados and bad cheese) and both times the store allowed me to exchange the item quickly. I brought my receipt and the item I didn't want within a day or two of purchasing but it was still easier than other grocers. The staff there is super nice - I hope management treats them nicely too! I had an unfortunate experience today at the Grocery Outlet on the west side of Olympia. I came in briefly with headphones on, grabbed a few items, and had no interaction with any staff while shopping. Near the entrance there is an older male employee who seemed to have an unpleasant demeanor. I took out my headphones to be polite to the checkout employee. While I checked out he spoke with another older female employee talking about me. Then he came over quietly muttered "find somewhere else to shop." I was very surprised to hear that, especially as a paying customer who had simply come in, purchased a few items, and left without causing any issue or talking to anyone. Telling a customer to shop somewhere else is not something I would ever expect to hear from an employee. I've shopped at this location for years and never had a negative experience, which made this interaction even more disappointing. I hope management is aware and addresses this type of behavior toward customers. read more

do not like any grocery outlet store out there they are higher priced and any other store the rudest of all rudest of all stores. The last one I went to get cash out she said well i'm not your bank ATM machine. I said I never thought you were then why do you have cash back and why is that bothering you so much she never responded so I was the 800 number to your grocery outlet one, 800 grocery so I called they never called me back so I will never shop another grocery outlet bargain market. You may score on an unusual or specific item, but certain standard things that you would think should be discounted (like bread) are higher than other stores. You can go down the street to Safeway and find the same bread for half the price. Most of their vegetables and fruits are quite old and you can smell rotting fruit when you walk in the front door. You can also smell the bread molding when you walk down the bread aisle. These items, again are not discount priced, but higher priced than what you would find at Safeway. Snack foods, like chips are always higher than other stores. If I'm looking for good, fresh food, grocery outlet is not my go to spot. However, if I'm looking for an unusual item or cheeses, for example, grocery outlet does offer some pretty good prices on cheeses. They used to significantly reduce yogurt, but now they charge the same as the regular stores even though their yogurt is just a day or two from expiration. Occasionally, they will have discounted items that are close to expiration, which most of their products are, but the reality is you don't get cheaper food here. I'm not sure why these people and workers think they're better than their customers. I was shocked at how non covid protocol they are, your employees should be wearing a mask throughout their entire shift while working in the store. Also the manager and the workers are super rude. They didn't stop two people who were unmasked in their store too. I forgot to mention this, so am adding right now. Also there is no social distancing, their spray was out for the cart, and the manager did not seem to care at all when I notified her. I feel awful for the local people who shop here because it is filthy. Someone needs to contact osha / health department. There is so much garbage in and outside of their store, so gross. Great discount grocery store, with a lot of staff that are genuinely friendly. However, recently they have a new policy, a customer cannot purchase alcohol without consenting to having their driver's license scanned into the store's computer system. They maintain this is required, and refuse to simply check a customer's age by looking at the ID. This is the only establishment in Olympia that says that they HAVE to do this. Very suspicious. Recommend going elsewhere if you intend to purchase alcohol. read more

I went to this store today and it was a wonderful experience. The store was clean and organized. The staff was friendly and helpful.

I enjoy finding deals at grocery outlet and I frequent this store. I always check expiration dates and all the employees have been kind to me. However...last visit I noticed 2 charges on my receipt that I didn't purchase. Not big ticket items, under a $1 each. I went through my grocery bag 4 times because I was wondering what I grabbed that was labeled "hazelnut". I was in and out with only 1 grocery bag with two kids. I wasn't paying attention, but then again I would never think the elderly woman cashier would do such a thing. It's easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Now I have to watch the cashiers like a hawk. How many times has this happened to me? Yes, it's under $2 but if this happens every other time the money taken from me would add up quick. Please please check your receipts before you leave the store! Make sure nothing is on the receipt that you didn't deliberately purchased. I would like to mention this elderly cashier made me use my credit card 4 times because the machine wasn't working properly (it worked perfectly for 3 customers before me) My card was fine as I just used it at Target (less than 30 minutes before). I used to love the Olympia Grocery Outlet until I was mistreated by the cashier and the store manager all for being a disabled Veteran. The store issued me a card for being military and veteran. Upon receiving the card they checked all of my identifications. The card had no expiration date. But today when I went in the cashier refused to give Me the discount because my iD expired I showed her my other identifications to prove I was a veteran. But she said I needed my VA ID card. I asked for the store manager and when the manager came she told me that the store no longer gives military and veterans discounts. So that I wouldn't of even had to show anything in the beginning because they don't offer the discount anymore. And the cashier and store manager made a scene in front of the entire store. Forcing me to show identifications of my military service come in to find out that they don't even offer the discount anymore and did nothing to fix it. I'm shocked that a store such as Grocery Outlet would offer military and veteran discounts and then rip them away without any posted or email notices. I was truly mistreated and discriminated on, all for a $3 veteran coupon given to me by their store. read more

The headphones, earbuds, speakers, and charging cables sold in the front of the store are all Chinese "Bulk factory rejects". Expect them not to work out of the box, not have the "gold-plated" connectors advertised, and certainly a waste when quality cables and headphones cost only twice as much. The "competitors" price also does not reflect their actual value, which can be found with a quick google. It shows either a lack of morality, or competence, of Grocery Outlets (Perhaps non-existent) product research or quality control teams. Cheap wine, cheap everything! This is my go to place for vitamins, booze, and not-so-expirables. Almost everything here is close to it's sell by date in the cooler sections, though- so take note and be a cautious buyer! (ie- "Will I really eat this for dinner in the next 2 days?") Usually they have some good vegetarian/vegan finds in the coolers and frozen areas. I like that a lot. :) read more

We shop for a lot of stuff there. We save a lot of money on good products, and always a surprise somewhere in which one can buy an item that usually we can not as they are too expensive. However, I liked the place before the new owners took it over. Before the place had a "everyone knows your name" feel, as customers and staff often chatted and it felt like a community. Now, they tell their employees to not do this. Apparently, they feel that paying staff to converse on a personal level with customers is in appropriate, and customer relations not economically profitable to engage in.. I am not going to deny it - I love grocery outlet for 3 reasons. 1. Price. you cannot beat the prices and some of the things they have are really good. It may expire in less than a week but for half of Safeway - or less who cares. 2. They are the only grocery store that when the lines get long they instantly call for backup and make sure they get through everyone. Oh and they are friendly. 3. Location. The bus lines all seem to go right past it. If you are going to one side of Oly from the other you have to drive past it. The downsides. 1. Inconsistent selection. It will be there for 6 weeks and then just when you become addicted it runs out. 2. It is surplus/discount/overstock stuff so you don't get things like POM, but maybe POM tangerine. 3. You have to go somewhere else because they don't have everything. I don't care about the downsides, it is still the best. read more

Grocery outlet, you have probably saved more people from turning into unproductive junkies than any other business in Thurston Co. If it is cheap, it is here. Some of the fly-by-night deals they have here are pretty good: like the one time I saw 6-packs of Alaskan beer here for $3. Candy? Buy it here, you would get a handful for $2 where other places you might get two if you're lucky. Cake mix, same deal. Frozen dinners? A lot of names you don't see very often i.e. "Hungry Foods Co." Some of them are decent others taste like cardboard, but at least you didn't spend a lot to get that frozen pizza. They have some of the Amy's pizzas there, which are most of the time decent in quality. Everything here that is packaged food is a steal and comes recommended. For produce or meats, I'd move along to the next aisle. Got some bananas here once (they were bright yellow with a lot of green at the tips when I bought them) and the next day they were totally brown and would turn into mush in your hand. The employees to this place are hilarious too. G.O. has ads that run over their P.A. system and one time one ran: "Grocery Outlet...and next time you come, bring a friend." Then the employee stocking shelves looked at me and said in the most over the top way, "Hey, next time, bring a friend!" I couldn't help but laugh. read more

This place really made my dollar stretch back when I was a single college student living with five buddies. Between the six of us we probably had fifty bucks for groceries each month after paying for college out of pocket. We made casseroles, meat loaf, soup, you name it from the canned and frozen stuff we bought from Grocery Outlet. We never knew what was going to be cheap from day to day, so I [the group cook] became really good at making just about anything. When you're broke, you aren't going to be picky. We sure weren't! Our favorite time of the year was Thanksgiving. We would always go to Turkey Bowling and we would bowl with a a frozen turkey in order to win coupons and free food. This is the fourth Grocery Outlet location I've visited, and they're all basically the same to me. I like the fact that they're slightly smaller than some of the area competitors, and you can find some really good deals. Obviously they aren't going to carry as wide of a selection as other grocery stores, so you may not be able to get everything on your list. It's set up in the fashion of a warehouse store like Costco or Sam's Club, and a lot of the items are in boxes stacked on the floor. There are several products in the dry/canned section plus they also have frozen food, meat, bread, wine, and household items. There aren't many checkout lanes, but there wasn't a lengthy wait. Cashiers are friendly and always tell you the amount you saved. If you're military, this is a $3 discount on purchases over $35. read more

Grocery Outlet, where I always wish I had gone when I spend 60 bucks I don't have at Safeway or Bayview Thriftway. Don't expect what you need to be there, but I recommend going there first and then buying the rest somewhere else. Most of the time, they have exactly what I wanted. It then makes me cry softly when I think back to the wasted 5 bucks on that crappy Stouffer's (Stoner's) mac n cheese when Gross Out is currently selling it for 2.99 .. Grocery Outlet is AWESOME for frozen food, cleaning supplies, canned/prepared foods and cheeses. It's awesome (lowercased) for produce but you need to use it quickly. The people that work here are friendly and nice. Plus, they tell you how much you saved, and it's usually more than what you spent. read more

I probably won't come here anymore. They now have stands set up right in front of the door, how that is not a fire hazard is beyond me. You have to not only walk all the way around, which is quite difficult as it is a narrow space with lots of people, but when you do finally get to the counter, there is ALWAYS a five minute plus wait. Plus, the beer prices have gone up dramatically, I use to find a single beer for two or three bucks each time, and there are few options. Trader Joe's is faster and cheaper, even with the extra ten minutes of driving. Until they at least change the nonsense at the entrance and hire one or two more cashiers, I am done going here. read more

This is my favorite store ever. I love how they sell real food as opposed to trying to push a bunch of non food nonsense items like most mainstream groceries, or use weird psychological tactics to boost sales. Their convenience foods are a mixture of high and low end food, but usually moderately priced. The staples are always at a very low price. I love their meat section, although not for cheap stew beef (all of it is $5+). This is the only place I know of that has ground turkey most of the time though!!!! The bread they have is usually a few dollars cheaper than it is everywhere else. The everyday sale on bulk cheese is also amazing, and the yogurt selection is usually great. I had never been to a Grocery Outlet before so this was definitely an experience for me. I guess I knew what to expect just from the name, but I was still a little startled by the customers. I swear each one of them was hiding a lit cigarette behind their ear or something, this entire place reeked. Also, everyone seemed to stop and gawk at nothing in the most random places. The selection of food was pretty decent, but as I expected not everything you need is there, like brown sugar and baking powder. I assume stuff comes in at random times so you never know what to expect. That must be part of the charm, but I'm not really seeing it. Really, this is a decent enough place to go for some groceries, but there is no way you can check off your entire list here without having to go somewhere else. read more

Grocery Outlet is a friend to so many people. It's easy to save money here and it gets a pretty varied crowd- income, nationality,education-wise. It's a cheap place to buy food, kitchen wares, seasonal decor and personal products. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. I love coming to this store before other grocery stores, and yes you may not find everything your looking for. They have discount prices, and its like thrift shopping, finding that treasure food item on sale. But if you find something you like, buy alot of them because they might not have it next time you come in. Secert don't tell all your friends. Grocery outlet helps me save money on my food bill. Go there with an open mind, and if you find things you weren't looking for but can use, buy them, cause they won't be there next time you go! I average about 50% savings every time I shop here. For the other stuff I go to Safeway since I get gas discounts, but you can't beat this place for the basics. Cheapest produce around. I love Gross Out! Your uppity friends might give you grief for shopping here, but if you are short of dough, this place is great for getting a few things to tide you over. If you need the other type of dough, check the expiration date first. Where else can I shop for groceries while listening to CCR? Where else can I find Evaporated Milk Flake cereal? I like the store and you can often find high-end frozen stuff for a fraction of the cost. I don't really jump on the bread because it looks sort of old and the produce looks a bit wilted for my tastes. The employees are generally quite knowledgeable and friendly. I realize it's the nature of the business but man are there some dirty smelly people who always seem to be there when I am. I have smelt some horrible hippy nasty stink in there. There grocery carts are also wholesale finds I'm sure but they are getting a bit run down and mangled and scuzzy. So I don't always shop there for those reasons. Fix or buy new carts, spray some Febreeze twice and hour and I'll be there more often. read more
