I admit I'm spoiled and definitely have some other favorite Asian grocery stores in the Olympia area. But Capitol Market is very local to me and I've shopped there a few times over the last year or so. They have a good assortment of sauces, condiments, rice, noodles, soups, seasonings and a solid, but basic, vegetable selection. The freezer cases filled with all sorts of goodies from frozen meats to sweets. Prices seemed pretty reasonable. The service is friendly. The checkout area can get a little crowded with peeps coming in and out the door. PS - The last time I was in, the restaurant next door was open and whatever they were cooking smelled delicious. My go-to place for pho in Olympia! Ambiance - Market/restaurant combo in an old strip mall-esque building. Seating for about 25-30 people in the restaurant area. Service - always prompt and efficient! Order at counter and grab a seat or grab a seat and they will come get your order... either way seems to work! Food - we haven't tried 'em all, but so far our family's preferred pho stop in Oly proper! Pricing is fair and reasonable for portion size. However, the fresh vegetables were not as fresh and minimally available. The prices are moderate too. Best pho in Olympia! My favorite. Go to spot. Heavenly. Kind staff. Beautiful plants & fish tank inside. The bahn mi is also amazing. Fried rice. Papaya salad. Japchae. Everything I've tried has been superb. I also love that they don't play music inside, so you just hear the ambient trickle of water coming from a very pretty indoor water feature. Even though capital market is well known by locals. I still feel like it's somewhat of a secret. The restaurant is attached to the small Vietnamese/Asian grocery. You can find your classic Vietnamese dishes, such as pho and banh mi. But I think the star of their menu is the bun bo hue. The broth is rich, complex and slightly spicy, and it is served with tender chunks of aromatic beef shank, tendon, and a slice of pork roll. read more

Had to stop in and see what everyone has been raving about. We have driven past this place hundreds of times. It doesn't look like much from the outside, so have never thought to come here. We ordered at the counter for dine in and sat down at a table. We went with Wonton Egg Noodle soup, Steak Pho, Shrimp Fried Rice, and Large Pork Hum Bao. We were served hot tea with our meal, which was nice. Hum Bao was quickly delivered to the table heated and still wrapped in plastic. It was good, probably should have ordered two since two of us shared it. The fried rice came out first. Hot and fresh smelling of sesame oil. The vegetables were the frozen mix including corn and lima beans. Portion size was good, but overall this just want not an impressive dish. Wonton Egg Noodle soup came out next. The accompanying dish of toppings had cilantro, bean sprouts, lime, jalapeños, and lettuce. I used everything except the lettuce. I have never received lettuce as a topping everywhere else that I have eaten this dish, and was a little disappointed that it did not come with Thai basil. The wontons were good and held up well in the broth--not sure if they were house made. Wish there were more veggies in this soup, but overall was okay. The Steak Pho came out and thankfully came with a generous portion of Thai basil...so I used it for my soup. My son enjoyed it and left full. This place is a whole in the wall. Service was friendly. Prices are fair. Not the worst place I have been too, but I wouldn't say the best either. I might return, I might not...but wouldn't go out of my way to do so. read more

My family stops by frequently! - Pho. I would say the pho flavor at this restaurant is different than other pho places. The broth is more meaty and very aromatic. - Bun Bo (spicy noodle soup). Very flavorful, plenty of meat, and like the pho very aromatic. My only suggestion would be to serve it with brisket instead of their current protein. The space is a hole-in-the-wall, lighting is a bit dim. The staff are incredibly friendly and genuine, they are are family-owned business. Prices are quite affordable for the portion sizes!! PRO TIP: Ask for "nuoc beo" (aka fatty broth) on the side to add into your pho, it's delicious. read more

Being new to the area, I'm on the search for good Vietnamese food and this place fits the bill! I love their pho dac biet bc it has fatty brisket, gau. I have been here a couple of times recently. I have tried the vermicelli salad with pork and egg rolls. On my second visit I tried the chicken Pad Thai. Both were as good as anything I had had around town. The people are nice, the seating is fairly limited. Located in the strip mall adjacent to McDonalds and Wendy's in West Olympia. Upon pulling up you do not get the best impression outside and the inside is a bit dated but the food makes up for it. If you don't care for the ambience inside, you can always get it to go. They also have a Asian market adjacent to it. They have quite a few items in there also. read more

This is a small family run restaurant and Asian market attached. This is my go to place for Pho in Olympia area. I was always dine in, but the place has a lot of take out purchases. Surprised by these reviews because I didn't know there was a restaurant here haha. This is for the market. I used to go to Hmart a lot but it's a little far now, so whenever I'm downtown, it'll make sense to stop by here to pick up some essentials I'm low on. It definitely doesn't compare in terms of size and selection, barely any produce, but there are a few things available here that I have had a really hard time finding other places, including even Hmart. I've been to most pan-Asian markets in the area and this is the only place I've been able to find Chinese sausage. They also have a few sauces and pastes that are hard to find. They also have the juice box size AND the bulk size (with the round plastic spout) of Aroy-D coconut milk, which I've never seen anywhere else. Kind of a few specific items, but it's still nice to know I can get it somewhere. Kind of pricey but I think I'm spoiled from living places where Chinese groceries are more plentiful and competitive. Anyway it's worth it since I'm just happy to find some of this stuff. The people working are nice too and helpful. I guess I'll have to try the restaurant next time! read more

My favorite place! I always order either the brisket pho or the chicken pad Thai and it never disappoints. The pho is so flavorful and it has so much meat. The staff is always super friendly and sweet, they check on us multiple times and make sure we're doing ok and that our food is good. This is our go to takeout spot. Everything is delicious but the bahn mi sandwiches are great Grab n go items especially for the price and we are regulars of the bbq pork vermicelli bowl and various pho combos (we usually just bring the broth to boil before serving if we dine at home). Their grocery market in the next room is also great for specialty items and has a great mushroom selection! read more

This is one of my go-to places when I'm on the West Side and want some delicious pho. Large portions, flavorful broth, and glasses so clean you can taste the bleach in the water they serve you (LOL). I've had a variety of their Vietnamese and Korean soups and all are delicious. Their fresh rolls are likewise large and tasty. My one complaint, which is shared by other reviewers, is that their tables and chairs make it impossible to cross your legs. There is no clearance under there because of the rattan filigree under them. But, no matter, because this is about the FOOD. read more

I've been craving a good pho for 4 months now. You know how it is, I was watching YouTube and my favorite food reviewer is crazy and he eats 4 bowls of beef noodle soup/pho from morning to evening. I'm here at Capitol Market in the restaurant to try their Beef noodle soup and I am hungry. I've been here before about years ago. It's a different time just the same place. I think the place is exceptionally clean which I am pleased to see. I ordered the Large Beef noodle soup and it's a decent beef noodle soup pho with tons of noodles and beef that I like. Is this the best beef noodle soup I've ever had? Truthfully, no but I have to say it is a delicious and decent beef noodle soup and I recommend if you enjoy pho stop in here and have a bowl. We live in Grays Harbor and make a trip to the Capital Market every 6 months or so. Today was our trip to restock all of our goods. While trying to put everything we night in our truck I dropped two bottles of sauces we bought in their parking lot. Everything is so expensive these days it kind of crushed my heart dropping the goods we just bought. Of course, they were glass bottles I dropped‍ The man who was making the register saw that I had dropped some things and graciously came out to help me clean up all the broken glass. I really appreciated that!! As a kind gesture, he went back in and grabbed the things I had broken and gave them to me. He was so kind!! Thank you sir We also ate lunch in their restaurant connected to the store. I had the Pho and the broth was amazing!! They have huge portions for minimal costs. I highly recommend trying the Pho. NOTE: This review is for the accompanying restaurant next door, because there isn't a separate listing here on Yelp. I arrived being the first customer after the restaurant opened on a mid-morning Saturday. I dreamt of an exceptional breakfast, but knew from experience to keep expectations in check. Sure enough, this was another restaurant fail--a subpar meal. I'd ordered a rice plate with grilled "pork chops" (quotes are intentional; you will understand why) and shrimp, plus a couple of fried eggs. The dish arrived promptly and was set up overall very similar to any other Vietnamese establishment. First of two immediately recognized failures: the modified fish sauce (a key component) was only halfway to tasting like fully, gloriously enjoyable "modified" fish sauce, as though it was made by a weak hand or someone who unfortunately gave up too early. The second discernable offense: chopped cilantro covered the plate liberally, but cilantro simply doesn't belong on this dish. That gave the impression, "what are they trying to mask?" instead of, "maybe they are being innovative..." A related gripe: I'd have preferred more of scallion oil. Unfortunately, however few of those good, necessary scallion bits were mixed up with the "meat." Yes, I now present the central fiasco of the meal: they served pork meat. Not CHOPS; not a single bone in sight. The menu clearly indicated pork chops. Curious, I inquired the waiter, who brushed off my concerns and declared that the meat was simply cut up pork chops. It wasn't; very easy to tell. And, the cooking method was not a true flame grill or broil but more akin to Vietnamese shaking beef style, while using marinaded pork. Sadly, it wasn't worthwhile to protest further. Service was non-existent after the food came, but that's actually normal for most Vietnamese eateries. I proceeded to finish my brunch in silence, and went on my way. read more
