I am writing this do to the experience I received on 04/25/20 . I have never had any complaints until today. I bought ground beef from this location, which expires 04/28/2020. I opened the item and notice a really bad smell as if it was a spoiled meat. So I decided to head back to exchange for another. I was told by the manager Zanidia that they could not exchange the meat due to exposing the employee and they are not allowed to exchange at this time. I mention I can throw the meat away for them outside in the trash. I paid for an item to be able to consume. Not to get sick! Which I expect you to exchange if your produce is bad and not eatable. So why couldn't you exchange it out? I understand that we are going through Covid-19. I am not returning huge pile of toilet paper. I am exchanging bad meat that I paid for that shows it should expire on 4/28. I except to pay and buy good quality items and if it is bad, you should exchange for your customers. I was also told by Zanida to keep it in my fridge until the restrictions is lifted and MAYBE they will exchange it than while she takes a photo of the spoil meat. Why would I keep spoil meat in my fridge for another month and let bacteria grow so it can affect all open and other items in my fridge. I have two children at home so you can understand why I would like to be careful as well. Just disappointed with their customer experience. read more

It's like a treasure hunt here. Sometimes you find some really good deals and bargains, and good deals on brand name grocery labels. I actually like this Grocery Outlet better than the Oakland one. Just like the Oakland one, their alcohol section is excellent. But I found that the organic section at this one has more stuff that I like. read more

Finally made it out to my local Grocery Outlet in my quest to save a bit more money on my weekly grocery bill and I was so impressed! This store had a good selection of produce, meat, dairy, healthy/plant based/or organic items, freezer foods, premium name-brand snacks, and of course wine. I would say you will still find a wider selection of produce at Berkeley Bowl, Monterey Market, Whole Foods, or another conventional store, but I was able to get most of the produce on my shopping list. They even stocked my favorite brand of healthier bread and keto tortillas! I went on a Monday afternoon and there was no line and inside was not packed at all. The Grocery Outlet is definitely going into my regular lineup of grocery stores. read more

I'm into it ! I rotate between shopping at a few places and Grocery Outlet, while not making my feelings soar like I'm flying on a healthy organic cloud does put a smile on my face with down-to-earth prices, items, and friendly staff. Generally, folks seem happy here and I am THRILLED they moved into the empty lot instead of CrapMart or some other big box, unneccessary store. One thing is: the parking lot is way too big and they should do something with the extra black top. Rip some out, plant fruit trees.. Have a farmer's market, flea market, or roller disco! Of course being new, the store is much cleaner and nicer than the Oakland store. There are some great bargains in here, but some prices on some items are actually higher than Safeway (Powerade, in particular). Their selection on many items is great, but not so great on others (breads). The produce seems to be of better quality than I have seen in the Oakland store, which is a huge plus. I have to say that I have NEVER seen this store anywhere close to being crowded or even that busy, not even on a weekend. I don't know what their overall numbers are, but it seems that they are under-performing compared to Oakland and Berkeley stores and that is a shocker to me. This grocery outlet is far better than all the other grocery outlets in the bay area. the produce is well stocked and fresh and very well organized, as well as the whole store. there may be a few things lying around but that is typical for any grocery store due to lazy customers. All in all the store is beautiful and clean. I prefer this over the San Pablo store without a doubt. the owner of the Pinole store is rude. the San Pablo store isn't well organized. Richmond grocery outlet is the best. I could spend hours looking at the whole store. the employees work very hard and fast which is what I like in a grocery store. I love you Grocery Outlet; I especially appreciate how the owner of [this franchise] used to be a front-line employee and now owns his own store! Our neighborhood grocery outlet is clean, well (and neatly) stocked. It is a modern store with friendly staff - the fact that the staff has low turn-over says a lot about positive management... Prices are right and the diversity of selection is great / why only four stars? I believe that some of the items on the shelf are there because they are expired; sometimes I think that G.O. can make a more concentrated effort to mark items as expired however I understand why they don't. No matter, keep up the good work / you run a tight ship. read more

I do like this store and it is in my regular grocery store rotation. However, twice now I have been mistakenly double charged for an item. Both times, it has been the most expensive item in my cart ($12 beer) which seems a little suspicious. Each time I have called the store and been told I need to trek back over, that they will watch the security cameras to confirm I'm being honest, and then issue me a refund. I understand mistakes happen, but neither incident seemed to cause surprise in the employees and I didn't hear acknowledgement of the inconvenience or any form of apology. Instead, I felt like they were accusing me and definitely not like they value my regular business. read more

This was one of the best grocery outlets that I've visited, my other two favorites are the GO in Oakland and Berkeley. This store is huge and very, very well organized. I easily felt like I was in a regular grocery store just with everything ridiculously cheaper. The selections were plenty as they do tend to vary from store to store. Found a bottle of wine for $2.99 and when I googled this particular brand, it retailed for $19.99. I'll definitely be back to this location in the future. read more

Just went to this store today. Its grand opening was June 1 but we were out of town. The store is large, shiny and well stocked. The building used to house a Lucky Market but has been derelict for years, so this is a major improvement. The old stone facade on the walls remains and looks very nice. The old Hacienda Restaurant across the parking lot, whose facade matched it, has been torn down and I don't know what, if anything, will be built in its place. The store was full of people on a Tuesday afternoon, though not crowded. I loved that there was rock n roll from the 50s and 60s playing overhead. The crowd was diverse, including an adolescent girl who was dancing in the aisles, which I loved. To music that was popular when I was her age. I was hoping to find Vital Vittles bread, but the owner told me they have it only at the Oakland and Berkeley stores, although he will try to get some. I settled for an Oroweat healthy whole grain bread instead. I bought a family pack of ribeye steaks for a reasonable price and I see from reading Rebekah T's review that I should have picked up the package of bacon-wrapped filets I contemplated. There's a broad selection of food and I like that the store is independently owned. I still haven't been to the Safeway in the former Target site that replaced the one down the hill from us and the one that's now a gym on Macdonald. That says something. I'll be back to explore the stock here more thoroughly. read more

As most grocery outlets, this one has a wide cheap selection of groceries! They also sell clothes, home decor items, kitchen things, vitamins & beauty products. Along with a wide selection of wine, and beer. What I really love about this grocery outlet is the great range of items! From fresh to organic. The store is always clean, which is a major plus. The cashiers are generally fast & friendly even when there is only two and a long line. The major concern I always have is check expiration dates! Many things expire soon, as in next day and sometimes things are already expired! Only major warning.. Overall love this cheap & convenient grocer! Private lot with lots of parking space. read more

I love this store. Understand that Gross Out is the first store you should visit to see what they have because it will be heavily discounted. And, there are some really good food items here. Good beer selection, occasionally good Haagen Dazs, nice people. Never any trouble parking. But they seem to have only about 60 minutes of music! The same dozen songs, rotate over and over, including "My Boyfriend's Back," in which the reputation of the protagonist is to be saved by said boyfriend, presumably by inflicting harm upon the object of her taunting. I want to grocery outlet one afternoon and was discriminated against by the cashier who's name is Rose. I had watched many customers use ebt to purchase their groceries all of which were not people of color and when she got to me despite me holding a $100 bill in my hand she asked me if I was paying with food stamps. I called the manager and he made excuses for her behavior stating we ask if its cash credit or food stamps I told him that would have been perfectly acceptable if that is what she asked me but she asked me without mentioning any other form of payment if I was paying with food stamps. I have never been so insulted in my life and Grocery outlet needs to better train their employees. read more

I don't go here for the bargains, but go to try out some of the food/flavors that didn't make it to the big leagues. There are some really interesting finds. That being said, you can get Lindt and other premium chocolates bars for a really nice price here. They also have some good deals on unusual, ecologically friendly items like pepperoni pieces - the ends of a pepperoni sausage that you cut-off before making pepperoni slices. Taste great, look weird, but anyway, great that they're not just being tossed out. read more

I found this one conveniently located for the area but grossly inadequate. I had difficulty finding simple things. The University store even with cramped parking is slightly better, but I recall more fulfilling experiences as far as selection, at the Ukiah and Carmichael, Ca. Stores. I have remained at Foods Co. in Richmond for better selection on basic items. read more

Excellent service. Richmond's best grocery store, for sure. Fun to shop. Only minuses are that they don't stock rotisserie chickens or lasagna noodles, but their cereal, dairy, produce, and makeup aisle cannot be beat. Friendly staff, very clean and well-organized. read more

This store is the cleanest and best staffed for many many miles around. There are many reasons to shop GO, Richmond, but I must comment on GO having the highest quality wines at amazingly low prices (some $30 values sell in the range of $3 to$5. I love Grocery Outlets for some things, but I will NEVER EVER shop at this one, and I encourage everyone to join me in boycotting it. Here's the deal: shortly after they opened, I pulled up in the parking lot with my 16 year old son, and asked him to run in and see if they had any whipping cream ( I was babysitting a small child and didn't want to struggle with the car seat). My son came out soon afterward, angry and upset, and wouldn't tell me what had happened, except that they didn't have any whipping cream. We drove away, and after he calmed down he told me they had stopped him as he left the store and demanded to pat search him, since because he was leaving the store without buying anything, they were sure he was shoplifting. And yes, of course, my son is Black. read more

I think this place is great! Like others said you have to go in with an open mind because the stock is always changing. I found so much stuff and I only spent $19. They currently have alot of Annie's products. I remember Annie's came out with cereals that I loved and Target was selling them for $4.99 a box (yeah right)..this place has the same cereal for $1.50 didn't expire until way into 2017. I got a pack of simply pillsbury cookie dough for 99 cents (again expiration date in 2017)! The deals are amazing and absolutely worth taking a stroll through the store. Because of health issues I need to eat mostly organic. But, we can't afford to buy everything from Whole Foods or EC Natural Grocery, which turns out to be a blessing. Why? Our shallow pockets sent me to Grocery Outlet, in Richmond. And it is here that I can hear Elvis Presley, The Platters, Chubby Checkers (OMG, help!) as I encounter organics, GMO-free & gluten=free items at shockingly low prices. (Yes, you do have to check the dates on things; so what?) Where else could the jelly & peanut butter aisle inspire me to do the twist? The personnel are mostly real friendly (almost like my fellow Texans) & some are a little grumpy, that's ok too. Last time I was there one sacker came over (young guy with multi-colored hair and loops piercing many body parts; he exclaimed "I love, LOVE your coat!" Wish my grandkids could've heard 'em as they think I'm so expired :)) In the last 3 months I've been to Grocery Outlets in Berkeley and in Pinole. But Richmond location is the best. (WARNING: if you feel most comfortable with the prissiness of fellow customers shopping alongside you, then don't go to any GO!.
