Great employees, good office --vintage feel, and informative doctor. Had some veneers, crowns, and whitening done with some minor fillings. Ask for the compounded gel, It makes a world of difference and I didn't feel the injection at all. I see no one has left a review in a while. I took my son there today for a routine cleaning since our last dentist was booked up till school started back. The lady dentist found at least 5 or 6 cavities the previous dentist missed. She showed me them and I could see them all with my own eyes. The quote to fill all of them was probably half the price of my previous dentist, including the ones on his front teeth with a special composite that looks more realistic since they are front teeth. My impression was they pay closer attention to detail compared to my previous dentist. Their office wasn't as fancy as higher priced dentists but I think the quality of care was excellent. Even though I really like Dr. Kathy, the billing is a mess. I had to get a crown, and I prepaid half in advance. However, when I came in, I was charged full price again. When I got home I saw that they'd credited my payment to someone else's account. I contacted them and the front office said they'd credit it back to me for my next visit. Fast forward 6 months: I came in for my cleaning. I don't have dental insurance at the moment, so I was paying cash. They said it would be $400 for the cleaning and checkup (no x-rays!), which seemed like an absurd amount. I looked through my prior dental records and confirmed that's about $250 more than normal. Annoying... I reminded them I should have a credit from overpaying last visit and they said my credit was only $100. I reviewed the prior bill I'd paid, and saw it should have been $240. I contacted the office but never heard back. Unfortunately, I will probably find a new dentist because I don't enjoy getting overcharged or having to contact the office everytime to fix the erroneous charges. read more

Dr. Kathy extracted two teeth from my mouth today. I went into her office last week with two infected teeth. I was given a prescription of Amoxicillin and an appointment to come back today for 2 extractions. There was no pain whatsoever during the procedure. Dr. Kathy is great! During the entire process, she told me everything she was doing as she progressed, which really helped me a lot. The process was interesting and her strong steady voice kept me focused and engaged as she extracted the teeth. Thank you, Dr. Kathy and staff! I will see you guys in 4 weeks! read more

My experience at this dental office was far less than satisfactory. I'll start with 5 stars and deduct from there. 1. I removed one star because they charged a $10 PPE fee every time I went in. No other dentist does that. 2. Deducted one more star because they charged upfront for procedures that hadn't even been performed yet. I had to pay over $1,100 before weeks before I had a crown scheduled, which it ended up I didn't need. In all my years of going to dentists, no office has ever charged in advance. 3. One more star gone because instead of sending me straight to the endodontist before doing any procedures on my tooth, that the previous dentist had done in a similar situation, she proceeded to remove my crown and clean out the tooth. Turned out it was all unnecessary because the endodontist recommended pulling the tooth because it could not be saved. So I not only paid in advance for a procedure that was completely a waste of my time and hers, but she at first wasn't going to refund my initial deposit of $550, saying she had already done the work. She finally consented to refunding the entire amount, but she still billed my insurance company for $205 for other procedures that my Aetna Dental Plan should have covered. That $205 was deducted from my cap of $500 per year, so essentially it was money out of my pocket. 4. Minus one more star because she allowed the office receptionist to polish my teeth because Dr Shao had to work on another patient. By the end of the polishing, I had gritty sandy polish spread all over my mouth area and even splattered on my forehead. It was done very clumsily as if she had little to no experience doing it. That has never happened to me in my dozens of cleaning experiences over the past 40+ years. 5. Well, this would leave zero stars, but she said I had a cavity where I didn't. This was confirmed by the next dentist I went to, which I'm much, much happier with because the office is much more professional than this one. 6. And lastly , I was lied to, or lied to by omission, several times about my dental plan. The first question I asked before making the first appointment was if they accepted both my dental insurance and my dental plan. The office receptionist said yes, they do. She also confirmed it a second time, and the dental assistant didn't correct the error when I told her that was why I chose their office. The receptionist finally admitted that they weren't under my dental plan, and I would have used that instead of my dental insurance to cover the costs. So, no, I do not recommend this dental office. read more

Went back yesterday to get a crown and some fillings done. They took pictures and showed me everything in real live and living color! Doc injected me and I swear I felt nothing! The crown took awhile, but they made it there in office and and I love the final product! Better than the tooth I started out with, that is for sure! read more

The receptionist knows how to process a claim on your insurance, not to mention they take just about every insurance out there. The hygienist knows their stuff too, I had a very thorough cleaning that took longer than usual (I was way overdue) and was very impressed by how dedicated she was at making sure the job was done right. Let me start off with saying that I absolutely hate going to the dentist. Hate it. So for the last 25 years I only went when a tooth hurt--which is what brought me to Dr. Kathy. Never thought I'd leave a positive review for a dental office but here I am. First off, Dr. Kathy took her time with me and taking photos of every single tooth that needed work in addition to the X-rays. It was the first time that I saw each one of my teeth in live and living color---though not a pretty sight due to decades of neglect. The assistant was very conversational and made me feel at ease. I had one root canal and crown done and they had this machine that makes your crown the same day, in the office. They had nitrous available and let's just say, that made everything go by as if I had a few cocktails. Can't say enough good things about the service. By the way, I didn't feel a single thing when my root canal was being done, and I actually napped through the whole thing. Still can't say that I love going to the dentist, but this is the first time that I don't dread future visits with. read more

Top notch, professional, and attentive. Do you hate going to the dentist? I do. Well, I did until I came here for a tooth ache. Unfortunately, I had to have those two teeth extracted due to prolonged neglect. I had no idea that the jawbone would recede away from teeth if they're not properly cared for regularly, causing all sorts of issues. Fortunately, the extraction process was painless and proceeded exactly as explained to me prior to the procedure. Bonus: I got to watch HD episodes of The Office on a big screen tv while the numbing agent was working on dulling the extraction area. Double Bonus: My teeth/gums were checked multiple times using non-invasive techniques (sub-zero cold probe) to ensure that I felt absolutely nothing prior to the extraction process. Going forward, I'll be happy to go see Dr. Kathy and her staff so that I can properly take care of the teeth I have remaining. I'll be back in a few weeks to continue with preventive and pro-active maintenance so that, hopefully, I can keep my mouth intact for years to come. read more

I went to Grogan's Mill Dental with a Groupon and was not impressed. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because I was taken back promptly and the hygienist was friendly. Everything else about it was subpar. Whenever I have had my teeth cleaned before, the hygienist is sadistic in their treatment of my teeth. They power wash them, pick them with pointy, dagger like objects, suck all the spit out with strong miniature vacuums, and use all sorts of vile tasting concoctions on them while asking me questions I am obviously unable to answer, In other words, my teeth feel throughly cleaned. This hygienist was too gentle and not aggressive enough in getting all the nasty junk out of my teeth, so they didn't feel clean afterward. As for the dentist himself, he was brusque, unfriendly, and barely spent any time with me. He rarely talked to me directly; instead, he addressed most of his comments to the hygienist. After talking over me to the hygienist for about five minutes, he told me I was fine, and didn't even suggest I return in six months for another exam. I wonder if he was rude because I came to see him with a Groupon. I now have an appointment to see my old dentist who is more expensive, but a lot nicer. read more

Last month I went to another dentist for a new patient exam and it was a nightmare. Nothing like my previous experiences at the dentist, which were always pleasant. Today, I went for a new patient appointment here and it was a dream. The only reason I came in today was because my boyfriend had gone in the morning for his own exam and had mentioned my previous experience to them. He was so happy with his experience here that he scheduled an appointment for me for next week before leaving. They actually called him back at 11am and told him their 11:30 canceled and that they could see me today if I could make it, so we went for it! It was what I had experienced with my previous dentist years ago. They started my appointment on time. The hygienist, Erica, was friendly, gentle, calm, and patient. She explained everything to me as she was going along without any rush. The dentist was kind and did more than shove a "cavity finder" at my teeth. In fact, they didn't even have one! (You might have to read my review of the other place to understand why I'm even mentioning this.) My teeth were fawned over...apparently they really loved my opaque enamel! Is that a thing dentists dream about? I don't know, but it made me feel good! Their prices are very reasonable and they're quite accommodating. Erica took the time to write down the cost for each treatment so I knew what to expect. No crazy estimates from a sales guy or end of the world scenarios like I received at the other place. They were so sweet that I'm actually looking forward to my follow-up appointment next week! read more

Even though I've moved to the other side of town since my first visit, I choose them over anyone else because of the quality of their service. The team members are friendly, attentive, and always make sure to tell you what to expect. If there is a promotion available for a service you want and you didn't mention having a coupon for it, Grogan's Mill Dental is the kind of business that will let you know about it by circling the applied discount on your receipt. I never got that used car salesman feeling with them which can get annoying real quick. In terms of comfort, I can say based on my previous experience with other dentists, that they do everything within their power to make sure you don't ever get the feeling that someone is hacking away at your gums. Thinking back to my first visit, they were not only gentle but also honest about the numbers announced when checking how well my teeth were doing. I've had a deep cleaning with them about 8 months ago and was impressed by how thorough and professional they were. After the treatment ended, I asked about Invisalign and was referred to a reputable orthodontist because they weren't offering this service at the time. There had been times when I've had to reschedule and flexibility on their end was not an issue. Other times, when I lived a short distance away from their location, they'd call me after an appointment was cancelled asking if I wanted to go during that client's time instead. Goes without saying that their facility uses the latest equipment and is as sterile as they come, otherwise I wouldn't bother driving almost an hour dealing with Downtown traffic to get to my appointments. They're worth the effort. That said, I'll continue going to Grogan's Mill Dental so long as I am still in Houston..or close to it. :) read more

Do not go here. Dr Ferguson has sold the practice and it is now being run by Dr Shao. Dr Shao was pleasant and nice, but attempted to tell both my girlfriend and myself that we required deep cleanings, had multiple cavities, and had periodontal disease. To be clear, we both brush twice a day and floss every day. My girlfriend's mom was a dental hygienist, and my uncle and grandfather are/were dentists. I have also had a cleaning/examination done 7 months ago (and every 6 months or so before that) while I was still in the process of moving to Houston. My girlfriend had seen Dr Ferguson (the previous dentist at this practice) in January, who reported my girlfriend's teeth were "perfect". My teeth aren't perfect, but I am very familiar with dental care and I can tell when something is amiss with my teeth. My girlfriend and I went to this practice on different days (both July 2017). When I went Dr Shao refused to clean my teeth when I asked her to, repeating that I required a deep cleaning along with about $800 worth of other out-of-pocket procedures. My girlfriend did get her teeth cleaned, but only after adamantly demanding that Dr Shao do so. Her cleaning was botched, messy, and rushed. Dr Shao also attempted to prescribe special toothpaste and floss, and still did so after my girlfriend refused. During both of our visits Dr Shao talked down to us about our dental hygiene, finding small details to harp on about why we "had" periodontal disease. Do not go here unless you want your money wasted and you want to be unnecessarily talked down to by someone you're supposed to trust about your dental health. read more

She also tried to up sell extra services that normally a cleaning wouldn't cover, because she said my teeth were in poor health and in need of a deep cleaning. Yet I had zero issues at my last cleaning six months ago. I'm 27 years old and never managed to have a cavity. Something's not right. Please be careful! read more

Well since I'm being called A liar and harassed by their staff at the moment through texts I guess it's time I finally speak up on my experience. The dentist and the girls in the office are absolutely sweet! I have nothing bad to say about them as people. I paid several hundred dollars for a plan which included x-rays a cleaning and exam for the year. I made an appointment for my cleaning. Normally a hygienist is the one that does the appointment but the physical dentist that owns the practice did. During an exam and cleaning they go tooth by tooth and check the depth of each gum line. Then they scrape tartar off of the teeth. Not one tooth was checked for depth of gumline and maybe three teeth tops were scraped for tarter. It is physically impossible that after not getting my teeth cleaned for over a year after moving out of state that there was nothing there. When I canceled my appointment today upon receiving a reminder text, I let them know that I went elsewhere because the services that I paid for were not performed. They argued with me and said in their notes that it was performed so they must be correct. There was no service performed at all hence the reason I never went back. maybe next time actually perform the service and don't argue with patients instead of ripping them off read more

I never post, but I am pleased with this dentist and a good dentist is hard to find. SO hard, that I used to go to Tennessee to use my parents dentist when I needed one, but that guy retired. My wife and I are new to the area. She used these guys a few weeks ago and I used them this morning at 7am. Everyone there was a little to happy for 7am, but that's just me. They have all the state of the art equipment. Something else I like is they gave me a quote for a procedure I had done a couple of years ago elsewhere and the price here was better. I just felt like the dentist knew what he was doing, and his staff was very professional. We found our dentist and if I ever have to move to the other side of town I will keep this guy. I will never go back here. I took my 16 year old child and they would not let me go back with her. I never met the dentist at all. They gave me a 2400.00 estimate for her dental work. Said she needed a root canal. Told me to manage her pain to quadruple her ibuprofen but if it did not work to call them. She cried all night, I called them, they did nothing. This is after they said the HAD to clean her teeth before they could do any sort of treatment. I'm not willing to give my child liver damage with the insane amounts of ibuprofen to manage pain that they could have helped her with a few pain pills. My daughter and I both went for our initial visits and were treated very well. The front office verified my insurance quickly and had a full explanation of my benefits for me. He told my daughter that she needed 2 cavities filled asap to avoid needing root canals soon. 5 days later we got a second opinion from a pediatric dentist in The Woodlands.
