I brought my dog Phoebe a Pomeranian here a few months ago for a bath and nail trim. Everything went well, staff was nice and reasonably priced! I brought her here again last week, Thursday April 2nd @12:30. I have not cut my dogs hair for three years, because i wanted to grow out her beautiful long hair like every Pomeranian should have. I explained in detail to the two staff members (i remember exactly what they look like) what i wanted and what is expected. They said, "ok so not length cut off right?" i said correct. i told them NOT to touch her tail. I also told them to NOT use straight edge scissors only the thinning scissors to shape her and trim the stragglers that were longer than the rest of her body. Told them paw pads yes cut of course, and her butt hole. I even showed them a picture of what i wanted!!! i picked my dog up and she was shaved, and botched. They must have used a razor and 100% used straight edge scissors and NOT the thinning scissors. They CUT her tail when i specifically told them not to. i am not sure if one of the employees i talked to took care of her or she passed my dog onto someone else but clearly they did not understand what i wanted or communicated this to staff memeber who was grooming her. When i explained in DETAIL EXACTLY what was expected from them, they did THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE. I am disappointed, sad and mad. They ruined my dogs fur that i was growing and tamed for three years. It is not about the money, it is the fact that they did the complete OPPOSITE of what i asked for. I am writing this review so other people see this and know what to expect from this business. i paid and tipped before they gave me my dog, i saw her and walked out crying. That is why i did not say anything there and then because of how frustrated and sad i was. i left a voicemail a few hours later during operation hours. Never heard back so a week later i am writing this review. I pray another person does not go in there expecting one thing and having their dog come out a different looking dog!! read more

Just went to pick up my dog from being groomed. When I arrived I noticed my dog at the door. Another person was walking out with a dog and it was mine. The dog ran right up to me. I immediately told the person, that's my dog!!!!!! I couldn't believe someone else was leaving with my dog. My dog had the wrong collar and leash on. The woman behind the counter apologized to both of us. I'm very upset about this!!!! If I would have been a few minutes later my dog would have left with someone else. I cannot recommend Grooming Tails enough! My fur baby Tucker is an absolute handful and we have gone through quite a few other grooming shops that could not handle him. Grooming Tails is so patient with him and they make hime feel safe enough for them to be able to groom him and to do an amazing job too! I have been a customer for three years, sadly I will not be returning after the wholly unprofessional and disappointing experience earlier today. I dropped my two small dogs off to get bathed and trimmed at 12:30. At 4:30 I called to inquire as to the status of my pooches. They still hadn't finished and asked for an additional hour, which was fine. I showed up at 5:30; dogs still not finished. Another gentleman was outside, and he told me the same thing happened to him; he wasn't happy either. They asked for another 30 minutes. At this point, I wanted the dogs back as I didn't want them sitting in the cages any longer; it had already been five hours. The situation escalated quickly when the staff started yelling at me and my fiancé. I was very disappointed with the way the staff treated us. I will not be returning, and I would caution against anyone using these guys. read more

Ozzy has his first visit here yesterday and they did a fantastic job with his cut and grooming. He looked wonderful and he was super happy with his new cut. I drove from Newport RI to visit this shop and immediately rescheduled because of the great job they did. He's 8 years young and next time I'm bringing his newly acquired half sister to get groomed as well. You may have to wait a little longer but I would rather have a happy dog than a bad cut. I have been taking our dog here for the past year. Prices are extremely reasonable, staff is so friendly and he always comes out smelling and looking great! This past weekend he was sprayed in the face by a skunk! Of course it was late at night so we had to try to take care of it at home until we could call the groomers. They were booked solid that week but told me to bring him in anyway! He's a bulldog so the short fur helped our case. I am amazed at how great they did. THANK YOU SO MUCH! The ladies who work here are all very nice and my dogs looked good, but I can't in good conscience bring them here again. We dropped them off for a 2:30 appointment and were told it would be 3-4 hours. I was surprised that it would take that long since our last groomer took 2 hours max, but I needed a new groomer and was willing to give them a shot. As it was getting closer to 7pm, I called since it was passed the 4 hour mark. The woman on the phone said they'd be done within the hour. We live about 20 minutes away so 45 minutes after I called, we headed over there. They still hadn't called when we pulled into the parking lot and when I walked in they said they had just gotten started on them and they'd call when they were ready. They really need to find a more organized way to run the business. There's no reason my dogs needed to be dropped off at 2:30 and sit in cages until 7. When we finally got home at 8:30 my dogs practically inhaled a full bowl of water each, so on top of being caged up all day, they were likely not given water or taken out to use the bathroom. read more

Be afraid be very afraid. I have a 14year old Shih Zui who has had a long coat since she was a pup. It is my pride and joy. Today I brought her in for her monthly grooming. I spent a good amount of time explaining how much length I wanted taken off etc. When I went to pick her up I was shocked and heartbroken . Her beautiful coat had been almost completely shaven off. If that wasn't horrible enough, it was shaven unevenly. The groomer seeing my face replied, ' Oh well it will grow back.' If you care at all about the quality and type of cut your dog gets, please do not bring them here. I do not know what is going on at The Grooming Tail Salon but it is certainly nothing good. If I could give zero stars I would. I have gone there several times in the past and was pleased until last night. Apparently the person who was doing my two golden retrievers is on maternity leave and the Owner did my dogs yesterday. I dropped them off at 12:30 at 6:40 I called to check since it was so late, I was told they'd be ready in 20 min. I headed down and waited another 15-20 min. Meanwhile they took my check for $165 for 2 Goldens (which is on the high side). But I had been previously happy. They took out dog #1 and I couldn't believe it, He was not groomed, only bathed. I inquired and was told that he was bathed and dried and his paws done. I said I asked for bath and trim. I saw the notes on the counter in the appointment book. The intake girl wrote exactly what I asked for. Another girl came out asking me what I wanted etc. I started to get upset then she called another women out and asked her to come talk to me (turns out the owner). She said, well he has alot of fur! I said I know that's why he needs a trim and its what I asked for. No apology, just attitude. I said I want a breed standard Golden Retriever cut. Neither dog was trimmed. They charged me $82.50 for a bath that took over 7 hours!!! She took them back and did the choppiest half a*** cut. Mind you I already paid the minute I walked in to pick them up without even seeing them. (my mistake) The nice girl who took my dogs in the afternoon apologized and said next time,.... I told her there will be no next time I am never coming back. What infuriates me the most is the owner NEVER apologized, never came out from the back the minute I was not satisfied and never came out from the back to make sure I was happy with the finished results. Shouldn't you want your customers to leave happy? Sorry for the long post but I can't even put into words how upset I am. My poor dogs ended up being there for over 8 hours by the time we actually left. NEVER bring your dog here. read more

I have gone to this groomer several times but the last time I took our golden retriever she was there for 7 hours! I have never had a groomer take that long (2.5 hours MAX)but when I called they explained that someone cut themselves and needed to go to the urgent care. OK that makes sense! Today I dropped my golden retrieve off at 8:30am and asked that they have her done by 12pm as I had an appointment and honestly that was plenty of time for them to groom her. It was 12:20pm and I still had no call. I called to see if she was ready for pick up and they still had not even started grooming her yet!! The lady mentioned that she had a call out, but seriously 4 hours and they still had not even started. I will NEVER go back there again! read more

This place doesn't care about dogs AT ALL. After dropping off my 6 pound malty shitzu at 2PM. They still weren't done with her at 9PM. I originally called at 6:39PM asking if they were done with my dog and they explicitly said they hadn't even started and needed more time. I was frustrated but gave them more time. After about an hour I called and asked if my dog was done and they again said no. I was fed up and drove over too see what the deal was. They first off have everything closed off from the customer. Most likely hiding filthy cages where OUR dogs are thrown in. You may call them while your in there but they will ignore you and continue their torturing. This is bullshit. NEVER COME HERE. If you want your dog traumatized for life, please come here. read more

I have been here 2x. First time I brought a long haired cat and asked for a specific cut but received a VERY BALD cat. It looked very very funny so we let it pass. Then we brought a very fury puppy and asked that they trim down his hair a bit. When we got him back I noticed the really bad HACK JOB. The person I spoke to (like other reviews) said it may look uneven now but it will grow back. Terrible! But what truly bothers me is that they said my dog would be ready in about 2 hours. I dropped him off at 2pm, had to call at 4 to see if he was ready yet and they said they were really busy and hadn't got to him yet but he should be done by 6pm. At 6pm I called again and they said they were working on him now and will call when he's ready. Another two hours passed and I called again. This time they were almost yelling at me and said "We were really busy today and we squeezed you in. I'm sorry he was done in the time you expected but we are working on him and other dogs at the same time" I was floored. So I decided to drive over there which now brought me to 8:30 pm. I walked in and asked if he was ready and now they told me another 20 minutes till he was done and they would call me. I said "I'll be outside waiting" This was unbelievable! Now it's 9pm and Im floored, irate and almost prepared to NOT PAY them. They wasted my whole day and had me worried. OMG it's now almost 9:30 and Ive waited in the parking lot for almost an hour. Like really! Now I'm livid! I walk in and ask if there's a problem she said one minute I'll go see if he's done yet. No Way! Lady comes from behind the wall which prevents you from seeing what's going on and says we are finishing up now. Get outta her. It was almost 10 o'clock when we left. This place.....ummm give it a second thought. Heed the warnings of others who gave it one star and read the 12 reviews that DIDNT meet the guidelines. They are not lying. read more
