K9 to 5 has relocated to East Providence and changed their name to "The Dog Center at Faraway Farms." The new facility is better in every way, and the owners and staff are the same terrific crew. This is a full-service dog center: daycare, grooming, overnight boarding, hiking excursions, farm outings, etc. So far I've only taken my dog there for daycare and the occasional grooming. She starts yodeling in the car when we're a couple blocks away, drags me in the front door and trots off happily with the staff, without even a glance back at me. At pickup time she's happy, tired and ready to come home - though I think she wishes we lived upstairs so she wouldn't really have to leave all of her pals. When I travel later this year, I'll be able to relax knowing my goofball is in good hands. Highly recommended. read more

I haven't asked this company for any money, I haven't reached out to them. I don't want anything from them and I will never use them again. Here are only the facts. Recently I boarded my terrier, 9 years old, 15 lbs. for a total of 15 days @ nearly $1,000. I provided enough food for 20 days, two bowls, leash and harness. When we picked up my dog, they didn't know his name. The bowls were missing as was his leash and harness. They recovered the leash and harness but provided two new bowls. They stated nothing had been bar coded. One of my dog's left toe nails was completely torn off. My dog weighed 8.5 lbs. My dog looked sick and weak When we arrived home I fed my dog and he ate his food in one minute. It took my dog 3 days to recover Granted my dog does get upset when I leave, but he enjoys the company of other dogs, it distracts him. This was not the case. He didn't do well and I have to say, speculation here, it's probably part my dog's inability to relax and little to no attention from people. Miserable experience. read more

I have not had my dog use the boarding or day care services at K9 to 5, but I am absolutely delighted with their grooming service. My dog Tito is a Siberian Husky with a long double-coat... he is difficult to groom and this has proven challenging for most other grooming services. After scheduling Tito for grooming at K9, I was delighted to see him with a full brush-out and breed-appropriate trim. Lorenzo goes here every other day and he loves it! Since I work a regular 9 to 5 I just can't leave my dog inside then come home and walk him when im exaughsted. It's great to know my dog is being taken care of! I have also run into a problem of having my dog be rejected for day care due to him being a pitbull, I called roam dog and was rejected due to his breed. Overall it's a clean facility and the best thing is they are kept under control. I pick up lorenzo at 530 and he is just so calm and also listens better once we get home. Brought my dog Tequila in for a grooming. I had been going to Petco for a while but it was so expensive and usually really slow. I decided to try k9 to 5 because I heard good things from by many of the dog people at Bell St Park. I dropped her off around 2 and she was ready to be picked up around 4. My dog has been going here since February. The staff is great with dogs and also very gracious to the dog owners. They love my dog and it is quiet apparent she feels the same way. I went through a personal issue a few months ago and my dog wasn't able to live with me. K9 took her in like she was their own until I was able to resolve my issue. No questions asked. Two words: good people. A review below mentions that their dog was sick for days afterwards seemingly blaming this place for that problem. Well it is a widely known fact if you put your dog in an unfamiliar situation they will most likely (to use the words below) 'get the shits'. So maybe if they allowed their dog a few days here to get used to the place as a daycare instead of just dropping him or her off for boarding then the shits could have been avoided. Also, when you take your kid to daycare do you rip on the daycare when you kid comes home with a cold? That's like getting mad at your sick husband because he gave you the flu and then shaming him on Facebook... But I digress. Go here. Trust them. They are GREAT people! read more

Our pup went for daycare a few times a week for a few months. She always seemed happy to go and was exhausted at the end of the day which we were thrilled about. They regularly update photos too which is a nice touch. They have very convenient hours and the price is good. We wound up taking a step back after our dog started showing increased possessiveness of toys around other dogs, and was starting to seem more fearful with meeting new animals. This was a new development for her and we didn't have any other changes that could have explained it - I think as an active pup she wound up over her head with some more assertive dogs, so I'd think twice if that's your situation. It's a good place and most of the people there seem to really like the dogs and the work, but it wasn't a great fit for us at the end of the day. read more

Our dog goes to K9to5 at least once per week, sometimes twice, and he absolutely loves it. As soon as we get him up to the door his tail starts wagging like crazy, so I know he's happy to return. We've been taking him there since he was about 16 weeks old and I really believe it has helped socialize him. At 9 months old, he does well with many types of dogs and situations, and displays good manners while playing. The owners are really nice and it is apparent that they sincerely care about the individual dogs as well as the services they provide. Kristen also does grooming, and she does a fantastic job. For our dog's most recent haircut, she even deep-cleaned his ears, which was so helpful because that can be a tricky job! The facility isn't huge or fancy, but as long as our dog is happy there, that's what matters most! I also really appreciate that they post pictures and videos of the dogs throughout the day on Facebook. I love checking the page to see what my dog is up to. In terms of pricing, among the other dog daycares in the Providence area, we find K9 to be the best value because if you buy days in bulk, it ends up being several dollars cheaper per day than other places. What can I say? I love this place, the people in it, and the dogs that go there. The trainers really know what they're doing. When you first walk in the door, all the dogs bark "hello" to you, but the pack leaders quiet them rather quickly! My dog, Django, has always had issues with new people, so I was slightly hesitant to contact the owner, Sheila, who had emailed me about training my dog at K9 to 5. After going without Django to meet the group, I felt 100% confident that even if my dog reacted badly to them, they wouldn't shun us. The two trainers that I met have over 20 years of experience, and I felt really supported by them. So the day came to take Dj to camp, and I'm excited to report that he reacted in the most amazing way- like a calm, submissive, normal dog! He had no issues with anyone, and they all loved him right back. I could feel the positive energy in the building. The next step after meeting the trainers was facing what I'll call the "firing squad" (the pack of dogs that have already bonded and react intimidatingly toward Dj's presence), and Django gave them his two-cents right back. Keep in mind there was a fence and three professionals between the 'firing squad' and Dj. Rhuey, the trainer, assured me that this behavior was 100% normal. I have no doubt that these people know what they're doing, because after 30 minutes of Rhuey and myself playing ball and tug-of-war with Django in front of the pack, and slowly bringing one dog at a time to Dj's side of the fence, he was romping around with the pack in the yard, just having a blast with his tired tongue flailing with every trollop. (By the time we left, Django was so tired that he fell asleep on the 4-minute drive to the house!) The dogs are incredibly supervised at all times, as well. Now, they did just open this business, and the building could use some sprucing up. It seems like an old storage garage or something, but lots of room for the dogs to run and play. (And boy, do they run and play!) There's also a bunch of crates for the lazy or tired pooches to lie and watch their fellow pack-mates play. The yard is slightly small, but they plan to connect it to the dog park that's less than a block away (kind of like a fenced in nature trail to the park). And yes, they go to the park as well, and will walk there with you if you ask, if you're uncomfortable with your dog off-leash. So though the cosmetic aspect of the place leaves something to be desired, I very strongly believe that my dog couldn't be in better hands (other than mine, of course). I don't doubt that once they advertise and increase in customers, they will be #1 in Providence and will add improvements to the property. Bottom line, if you believe that dog's can sense good people, AND that a tired dog is a happy dog, Django is a walking testimony for these people's goodwill and wonderful program. We took a our dog for a first doggy day care and he came back with a hole in his ear. Fortunately, it wasn't too bad, but the teenager entrusted with caring for the him didn't say anything about the injury despite the blood. I would seriously think twice before taking your dog here. read more

I can't thank Kris and Rui enough for the love and patience they have shown my boyfriend's dog Disco. He's had a tough living situation for a while now, so his boy Disco has been with the pack for a few months to avoid the chaos, and keep his life routine. Crossing my fingers we can bring him home soon, but the peace of mind that we have is incredible in the mean time. My dog Reggie loves it too, which is fantastic since before K9 to 5 I hadn't taken a vacation in years! Been bringing my dog here for haircuts for the last year and a half. It's close to my house and reasonably priced. Scheduling is my major complaint. I work in Boston most of the week, so Friday is the only day I can bring her in. Lots of phone tag, unreturned calls and waiting around. Perhaps some sort of online scheduling like I do with my doctors office? Otherwise, they do a good job with the cut, which is hard because she's a unique breed. read more

My initial impression of K9 to 5 was mediocre. It smelled and it was damp. I've been to multiple veterinary hospitals that see a large volume of dogs per day and have never noticed a smell. The dogs I could see in the small dog pen looked happy at least. I dropped my dog off for the first time and was not allowed to tour the facility. RED FLAG. I was in a rush for work so I didn't make a stink about it. The person working at the front desk was young and not too confident when he told me I couldn't tour the play areas. My dog has separation anxiety and tried to jump the small fence they have separating the play area and reception desk. He was yelled at and dragged back to the play area and was yelled at to sit and stay. I was not impressed by this type of "training". I've worked with animals my whole life and yelling will get you nothing but a scared pet. When I arrived to pick him up later that day I could tell he must have been yelled at or locked up all day. He was extremely anxious, wide eyed, and panting. I have taken him to other dog day care facilities and he has come home happy and tired. I do not feel comfortable or confident in the facility or staff's ability to care for my pet. There is apparently a DEM investigation pending after a dog was killed at this facility. I would suggest you contact your veterinarian and see who they suggest to care for your pet. May technicians who are trained in veterinary medicine/behavior will pet sit or even take your dog into their home. Just a thought...Please do your research and if you are told you cannot see the facility find another day care! read more

I met the owner at the Bell St dog park last week, Seemed like a decent enough guy... So I dropped my dog off to get a bath on Saturday. Rui called me to say she was bleeding in the bath tub. She had a small cut. They continued to groom her. I went to pick her up and they had her foot wrapped. I paid the $50. Once she got in the car half way home my dog pulled the dressing off. Her entire pad was sliced in half. The amount of blood was insane. Over $1000 in vet bills later they are not sure her stitches will even hold because this wound is so deep and the placement is really a hard spot to heal. I contacted them. This is the response I recieved "Hi. First let me say that I am very sorry for your pets discomfort, however your dog did not receive her injury here at the center. Please bring copies of all paperwork from vet with you so that we can forward to our attorney if you wish to pursue this matter in court." very unprofessional and irresponsible. This place is great and Rui and the staff have been a tremendous help to me. With a nervous and anxious dog who makes her owner anxious, I was looking for a way to socialize my dog and break through some of the stress that can come a long with that. K9 to 5's Sunday indoor dog park was the perfect solution for me. Rui has been working with both of us so that we relax and enjoy ourselves. And I pick Lila up from daycare tired and happy. Love it here! They've been taking care of my kids (dogs) for 3 years now. They are always so accommodating and my dogs always come home exhausted, which is great after a long day at work when I don't have the energy to go for a long walk with them. My husky Wolf needs some "special" attention and they've always catered to that. He likes to escape any way he can and some how they've been able to contain him! This daycare is also a really great environment for socializing puppies or shy dogs. I love the open play concept but they have separate areas for the big and small dogs and crate dogs as needed (like wolf when it's time to go home and he tries to leave with everyone who comes to pick up their dog before me). read more

I've visited almost all pet boarding places. Some of which have allegedly won awards from some animal magazine. None can compare to K9 to 5 Dog center. To start, these so called winners of pet boarding/pet sitting places lock their dogs up in cases for up to 23 hours with only 15 mins of play time out. I am continuously curious how these so called Pet boarding places can be determined as winners? K9 to 5 owners have an established pack leader, so, you don't get dogs who will fight over who is the "king of the dogs." Dogs are let lose without crating them, and they are intermingled with other dogs so they can socialized and play with each other. I board my dogs for 7 days and they come back tired and happy. We check on them on facebook, as they post their pics daily for us. At home, my dogs have a big yard to run and play, and I cannot in good conscience allow my dogs to be locked up in a pet boarding center with only 15 mins of play time. 15 mins of PLAY TIME ONLY, is cruel and unusual punishment for any social animals. I am just so pleased with k9 to 5 dog center, and looking forward to bringing my pets there again. read more

They are the best! We've been taking our 2-year-old boxer there for the past month, and we're extremely satisfied. Our dog loves going there, and we've noticed that she is much calmer and less frantic around other dogs. We can actually take her outdoors unleashed right now! I love this place-and more importantly, my dog Rocco LOVES it here! I turned to K9-5 Dog Center when my newly rescued Boston Terrier failed the intake evaluation at another doggie day care. I was so upset to learn that Rocco did not play well with other dogs, and worried about his care during the week when I was at work. I wanted him to be able to spend his days playing, running and socializing with other dogs while I was working- but that wasn't in the cards for him...until I learned of K9-5! They were willing to meet Rocco, evaluate him and give him a chance to be a part of their family. After the first meeting (even despite a little altercation Rocco got into), they informed me that yes, he would require a lot of work and training, but that he was going to be just fine and they welcomed him into the group. I was ELATED! In the past month since Rocco and I first walked through the doors of K9-5, he has made drastic improvements in his behavior towards other dogs and is becoming a more balanced dog with each passing day. This center has taken the time to work with Rocco and give him the attention, love (and a million kisses) that he needed. He has already made progress in his behavior, and I am confident with their continued training and care, he will be running loose with the pack soon enough. You can't put a price on the dedication, care and love the staff here have for these dogs. Rocco and I are so grateful to be taken in and cared for like family. Its so comforting to know that he is in good hands and will be cared for when he is here.
