I could not believe how much the store has expanded over the years, including an annex two doors down that houses thousands of CDs. The amount of inventory here is almost overwhelming in the best possible way. As a music collector, it honestly felt like I had died and gone to heaven. No matter what genre you enjoy, there is an incredible amount to explore. I was especially excited to find a large selection of leftover Record Store Day titles, including two rare releases that I was thrilled to add to my collection. I also came across many original pressings of 1980s LPs and 12" singles, along with a huge number of CDs in the annex, including several out-of-print titles that are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Everywhere I looked, there were hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Atlantic Sounds is the kind of record store where you could easily spend an entire day -- or several days -- browsing and still not see everything they have to offer. I am so glad to see how much they have grown and expanded since my last visit. It remains an absolute paradise for music lovers and collectors.

When I walk in, I feel like I did when I was teenager in high school as I use to frequent a vinyl store similar to this one in Miami Beach. It's really just everything about it, the music, the dry humor in a lot of the items they sell, all of it. I'm a huge Bowie fan and they have his pretty face plastered on so many things. It always makes me smile when I see all the merchandise too. They do fun mystery bags. They have one for CD's, stickers, and DVDs. I have no idea what kind of DVD or CD's they'd include so I went ahead and bought one for stickers and was very pleasantly surprised at the variety and already added some of them to my computer and water thermos. But upon arrival, I can tell that it was a pretty laid-back please. The desk clerk was very knowledgeable about the games and their history, as well as some nostalgic items that were available. They also have lots of Funko pops if you're into that type of thing. I even like the way they use the ticket gun to price various items in the store. It reminded me of the old school candy store with the little stickers label posted on it. The items look well cared for and wrapped very thoroughly and methodically. I believe lots of the items are fairly priced and not overwhelmingly expensive. I was most impressed with the miniature video game console that sat at the front counter that pre-dated the Atari. What surprise me most about this location is that they had a actual arcade in the back with various games from the 80s like contra, galaxa, pong, Qbert, dig, dug, streetfighter, or Pac-Man, and they even had a racing game. I've been coming to Maya Books and Music for years and always find something good when I stop in…read more The store is clean, orderly, and the book sections are clearly displayed; however, it doesn't hurt to ask for help from the owner, she knows where everything is. On my most previous visit I was looking specifically for piano sheet music, and the owner informed me they were upstairs in a basket under the W-X & Y-Z section of Rock CD's, and sure enough, they were exactly where she said they were. Luckily for me I found two books in great condition - Bach Short Preludes and Fugues for the Piano for $3.95 and Bella Bartok Mikrokosmos Piano Solo Vol III for $3.50, great deal! There is also a variety of other instrument sheet music for clarinet, trumpet, guitar, mandolin, and more in this section. They have a great variety of used music CD's and Vinyl's upstairs for sale at a reasonable price. I've purchased CD's from here for $4 and less, but some could be higher if they are rare or brand new in the cellophane wrap. I haven't purchased any Vinyl's but they do have a decent selection. There are also a variety of posters and old collectable magazines here for sale, which is cool. I actually have some of the Guitar Magazine ones they are selling for $25 and more. The owner informed me that she acquired a much larger store in another state and will have a lot more books and other items coming after the New Year, so be sure to stop in and see what they have to offer. Something to note is the owner is not flexible with pricing so I don't recommend trying to get a better price by buying multiple items and talking her down, it just wont work. Another thing is there is really nowhere to sit down to read for a few minutes to see if you want to buy a book your interested in, even if you try, you quickly become crowded in by other shoppers trying to get around you. All-in-all, Maya Books and Music provide a fun shopping experience if you're a book lover and just happen to be in Downtown Sanford Shopping. I highly recommend stopping in to check them out.

I have found some wonderful books here and if you go upstairs you'll find all sorts of records. To me the books are well priced, and the owner is always so so welcoming! Before writing my review I did read some other reviews about people trying to ask for price matching, which honestly I find weird to do with a small book shop (do it to the corporate businesses, not the small shops - but that's just my opinion). I also don't think the owner does price matching or accept any haggling as I did overhear her telling a couple she did not. Anyways a great book shop to visit and if you love to support local shops, this is one to visit and support!
