    Roaring Fork River

One of the best things I did when I was visiting Aspen! To find the trail, travel 9 miles up Independence Pass Road (Highway 82) from Aspen. The trail is located on the right side of the road - there will be a sign for "Grottos Day Use Area." There is a small parking area! Great trail for fly fishing, rock climbing, exploring Ice Caves, picnics, and hiking the Cascades. We were there in mid-summer. So the Ice Caves were no longer Ice Caves. But even in this hot summer weather, the Cascades alone are worth the trip! Wander along the Roaring Fork River (ice cold even in summer) and hike along the Cascades. Simply a gorgeous hike! Definitely an off-path, get a hold of rocks kind of hike! But so fun, so worth it!

This place is wonderful for kids. There are so many things for them to do, run and play, however…read morethe young lady who works on Fridays for the open gym 9:30-11:00- she is INCREDIBLY RUDE, UNKIND, UNPROFESSIONAL and not a pleasant person, she has been this way several times when we have attended. Especially to be working in this capacity with children and the community, it's very unfortunate for Aspen. Because of her unkindness, it makes me not want to bring my children here to play. Very sad situation. However, Mrs. Heather who instructs the gymnastics times M-T, SHE IS INCREDIBLE! She is so wonderful with the children, parents, and EVERYONE! We LOVE HER!

I spent a week camping in the mountains outside of Aspen last week. The last time I was up there,…read morethe rec center on the far west side of town offered $6 showers to the public. They've since moved that service to the "red brick" facility in the middle of town, but they cut it off at 3:00 p.m. After I made a mad dash across the pass and down 82 to get there in time, I arrived at 3:06. I asked the elderly gentleman at the desk if I could just jump in and out really quickly, as I was only 6 minutes past the deadline. "Well, the rules are the rules". Please??? "You know, we've got other things going on..." Me looking around at the empty space. "Huh?" Lame. Unhelpful. Would not recommend.
