They've since moved that service to the "red brick" facility in the middle of town, but they cut it off at 3:00 p.m. After I made a mad dash across the pass and down 82 to get there in time, I arrived at 3:06. I asked the elderly gentleman at the desk if I could just jump in and out really quickly, as I was only 6 minutes past the deadline. "Well, the rules are the rules". Please??? "You know, we've got other things going on..." Me looking around at the empty space. "Huh?" Lame. Unhelpful. Would not recommend.

There was a hefty amount of elevation gain. There were plenty of streams to filter water from with several river crossings as well as sketchy snow crossings where we lost the trail. Navigation was a challenge at times as there was limited signage. Even in July, which is the most recommended month to hike, the weather was dicey with some heavy afternoon thunderstorms. You do have to reserve your permits online far in advance and book bus tickets from Aspen as park parking is very limited. WAG bags were recommended, but not required when we went.

The ice waterfall you climb is about a 20 minute hike into a park. You do need to carry some gear and the fresh snow made the élan a little tough, but the terrain was flat. Our guide then secured the belay line and showed us how to ice climb. My wife and I have no experience and low to moderate athletic abilities (we are not rock climbers). Swinging that ice tool into the ice and starting your climb is a rush, but pace yourself. It is a difficult climb to the top. Highly recommend the experience. Average athletic ability recommended.

A member slightly lowered the music volume in the back room (it was excessively loud), and the owner's wife immediately stormed out and began a loud, aggressive argument with him, yelling, "Do not touch that!" When he tried to explain that the volume was too high, she doubled down and screamed, "Then you can go someplace else!" I chimed in to agree with him, shocked at how she was speaking to him over such a trival matter, and she told me I could 'go someplace else too.' I am stunned that a business owner would treat paying customers with such blatant hostility and tell them to leave over a simple volume request. Unprofessional, unwelcoming, and completely unacceptable. Possibly I caught her on a bad night? Jean Robert is such a nice man, says hello to everyone and always has a smile.
