I found this review in my "drafts" for Yelp and thought it was prudent to ensure that the review got published. To this day me and my significant other talk about how horrible of a cleaning experience this was. Originally from February 28th, 2018: I really wish I was here writing a 5 star review, 20 minutes after the team left. Instead, I've run into a situation where I'm writing a one star review because of a situation with one positive aspect, and the rest negative. I'll start with the positive first, Magdalene and the two people who cleaned were very sweet, and unbelievably nice. Unfortunately this isn't a review of their personalities. I booked an appointment last week for a morning cleaning, arranged my own schedule around cleaners being here that morning, only to have it rescheduled because Magdalene mentioned she made a scheduling error. No big deal, things happen. Switched to the afternoon around 1pm - 1:30. I did not get a call until 1:30 on the dot that they were running over an hour late. Ok, now two scheduling mishaps. I've rearranged my own schedule twice, and have been on the phone way too many times necessary to book a cleaning appointment, but still went ahead and was able to reschedule for the next morning. Fast forward to now, the cleaning was just simply sub par. Simple things a cleaners should do. Sweep the floor, dust bunnies were found in multiple areas of the apartment. Wipe coffee table down, it clearly wasn't cleaned. Make bed, at the very least straighten the pillows if they hadn't been. And as any apartment cleaning I've had in the past, attempt to tidy up and make things presentable if the client did not have time to do so prior to cleaning (unfolded blankets etc). This should have been a positive review, because after all of the rescheduling and timeliness problems, they could have at the very least put extra detail into this cleaning. Extremely disappointing and hope a more thorough job is done for other clients. Addition to review in 2020: It's also important to mention that in the review I say "Magdalene" was nice. This review was written before she literally screamed at me about this situation, and when I told her I would be writing a review on Yelp, she said that she would not be refunding my money despite the absolutely horrible job at cleaning they did. I provided images of the poor cleaning job (which after reading additional reviews, seems like a consistent fixture of their cleaning business), and she said they could either could come back and reclean the place, as if they didn't do an awful job and massively inconvenience their customer multiple times already, and then tried to extort me for a refund based on a Yelp review. Literal craziness that a customer should not have to go through. I have had multiple cleaners from different companies since I used Ground to Crown and couldn't be happier with all of them. I got a quick response when I contacted them through yelp. Sent a few pictures of areas that needed some special attention. I got my estimate on cost and time. Firmed up details and I happen to get lucky when they had a cancellation for the next day. They arrived on time with all their supplies. I requested a "white glove" service and Amanda and Anita went to work. Boy did they do a killer job (You girls Rock!). Anything and everything that could be cleaned was cleaned, windows, baseboards, crown molding, cabinetry in and out, oven, refrigerator and even behind! TLDR: I paid $1345 for way below standard cleaning of a 1500 sq ft ranch house. I ended up cleaning it myself. Unprofessional, uncommunicative, sub-par services and difficult to work with. They intentionally left the job unfinished - I had to contact the business owner to hold them accountable. After round two, several areas were still untouched. I had to dispute the credit card charges just to get an invoice after repeatedly asking the business owner. Avoid GTC unless you want to get taken to the cleaners! I sure wish I had looked at Yelp reviews first but when my mom passed away I had a very short time to fix up and sell her house due to a reverse mortgage. GTC was referred to me by Soft Landings, who were absolutely wonderful folks to work with so I trusted their recommendation. I still highly recommend Soft Landings but going with GTC was a huge mistake. When I met Magdalene, the company owner, my first impression was she's bossy but that means the work will get done. Unfortunately that was not the case. They claim to "specialize in Market-Ready Cleaning services, Hoarding scenario Cleaning, Deep cleaning..." but this is far from the truth. From my experience, they are only capable of handling small places that need the barest of cleaning. I hired GTC for a deep clean to prep the inside for painting and to power wash the exterior, including window cleaning. I also got a bid for painting and repairs but went with a family friend for that and am SO glad I did. I think that must've pissed off Magdalene because they did a half-assed job, charged me more than double the cleaning bid and refused to give me an invoice (which I need to get reimbursed by the estate). My repair guy told me that the place was still pretty dirty after GTC's "deep clean" and I saw for myself that the crew had barely cleaned anything. It sure smelled like cleaning product but that's about the extent. There was dust, dirt and dead bugs in the corners and on windowsills, baseboards and the fireplace mantel, cobwebs behind doors and on the bathroom fixtures, food smears on kitchen cabinets and fridge, a closet was missed completely and the crew didn't even bother to pull out the fridge or oven drawer to clean behind. Broken glass was on the floor of an ADU they claimed they swept. I've done way more than this basic stuff for AirBnB and hotel guests! I also had to replace a bathroom vanity after they completely warped the surface somehow. It definitely was not a deep clean and not even close to being prepped for painting. The bid included detailed info on cleaning windows, windowsills, baseboards, cabinets, etc.,using words like "scrub" and "disinfect" to make it sound good but none of this was actually done. I emailed lots of photos showing all the missed areas to business owner Magdalene to express my concern. Her story was that the crew knew that they were going to go over the estimated time, they were tired and wouldn't do a good job anyway, so they "planned to come back later to finish the job." None of this was communicated to me - what if I hadn't sent photos? My impression is they would have left it as-is but still would've charged me for the "cleaning balance/overtime" - an additional $550, nearly double the estimate for the interior cleaning. I was on a tight schedule to get the house listed ASAP. Magdalene assured me she would get back to me right away and would have the team come back first thing Monday morning. She kept saying she "takes care of her people," but by Wednesday I still hadn't heard anything. Magdalene finally contacted me saying the crew would be back the next day to finish the job. But they didn't. I was still finding areas they'd claimed to clean but didn't (cobwebs, dust, dirt) as I was going through the house up until it was listed. I ended up cleaning everything myself. Meanwhile, Magdalene kept pressuring me to schedule the exterior power washing but couldn't seem to get me on their calendar in time. And after seeing their shoddy work I didn't want to lose any more money to this company only to have do it myself. After asking several times, I never did get an itemized invoice - I had to dispute the credit card charges to get one. Guess what else? GTC charges a 3.5% fee if you pay by credit card, which was never communicated to me. That adds up when their services start in the several hundred dollar range! I've never experienced a professional company (contractors, cleaners, painters, repair services, etc.) who charge a credit card fee when you're paying so much already. I would've paid by check had I known but then it's good I didn't because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten a receipt! Buyer beware: avoid this company at all costs. Like a previous reviewer, I just happened upon a draft of my review of Ground to Crown, several years after their 'service'. I didn't post it at the time because it was such a traumatic experience and I simply didn't want to relive it. Now, I feel compelled to let others know what to expect if they hire this company. We were selling our 2600sq ft home and needed a competent service to do a deep clean to get the house sparkling for potential buyers. Magdeline assured me they would do an exemplary job and that their reviews on Yelp proved it. It would cost over $700. I forget the exact amount now, maybe it was closer to $900 because I added wood blind cleaning and ground floor window cleaning (inside and out) to the job (service took place in Dec. 2016). I reached out to Magdeline before the scheduled service to give her a heads up to bring a ladder as the entry of the house was 18' high, and I expected spider webs and the hanging light fixture to be cleaned. She assured me that would be taken care of. After the service she sent me pictures to supposedly show me how clean the house was. FYI, dirt, grease, dust and fingerprints DO NOT show up in pictures. Upon walking into the house after the cleaning, I found the kitchen terribly dirty. It looked as though someone had taken a dirty, dry cloth and wiped it over the granite, stainless steel appliance fronts, cooktop, glass cabinet doors and sink. Nothing was actually CLEAN. The hardwood floors had a dirty haze where it was obvious a single pass was made with one single microfiber mop pad. As I continued to walk through the house finding un-dusted woodwork and moldings, spider webs and melted candle wax on tile, I simultaneously talked to Magdeline on the phone pointing out every room's shortfalls, INCLUDING all the buggy light fixtures throughout the house where it was obvious no ladder had been brought in to clean the high areas. Exterior ground floor windows hadn't been touched. I eventually agreed to a 2nd 'free' cleaning by them to remedy the situation, but my gut told me it wouldn't be much better than the first one. At that time Magdeline made a point to tell me only 1 additional cleaning would be offered. On the 2nd pass, they did clean the outside windows and cleared the buggy light fixtures, but the hardwood floors were still VERY dirty, mirrors and glass fronts were still hazy and the kitchen still needed a lot of work to get to sparkling. I spent hours myself on my hands and knees cleaning the filthy hardwood floors, re-cleaning the kitchen using products specifically designed for each surface and glass doors and mirrors. I was so upset because we were under a deadline to get the house cleaned and ready for selling and it required me putting in late hours to meet that deadline. The only positives with Ground to Crown (which is a misnomer, since they don't actually do floor or crown cleaning) were their friendly personalities and, funny enough, window tracks. I wonder if they had to bring someone in special to do those, because they weren't on par with the rest of their service. I've since moved 2 times since that ordeal and refuse to even consider using a move-out cleaning service due to my terrible experience with Ground to Crown. If you're considering hiring this company, do yourself a huge favor and save lots of time, money, frustration and yes, even trauma, and do the job yourself. read more

Magdalene (the owner) was very responsive initially, promising me the work needed to get my home ready to put on the market would be completed in a week. That was 3 weeks ago. The estimate given was beyond my budget so we discussed some alterations to the initial plan to remain within my budget. Magdalene seemed offended when I informed her that 2 things on our list of "to do's" I was able to complete at significantly less cost allowing us to remain within my budget with the many other things that I was planning to hire her for & requested an updated bid with those items and some minor changes to original plan. Magdalene offered that actually in the hardwood floor refinish she would "probably require" something in writing saying that they may not be able to restore the floors "perfectly" due to their condition; prior to this she had guaranteed if I hired her the work would be guaranteed and "perfect." I thought this strange and because I had already gotten other bids on the hardwood floors at better prices than she offered without this "waiver" I alerted her that I was opting to get that task done elsewhere as well (and at a better price) and again requested updated estimate with that update as well. I didn't receive an updated estimate nor hear back from Magdalene after reaching out 2 more times. I'm now further behind schedule in getting work done and getting my house in the market. Extremely unprofessional and very costly delay for me. My advice is to avoid wasting your time on this company at all cost & Review the lower rating reviews which I only did after this experience. I suspect many if not all of the positive reviews are paid for. read more

I was moving apartments within Portland, and I requested a quote via Yelp from Ground to Crown. Magdalene called me SEVEN minutes after I got in touch, and gave me all the information I needed in a clear and detailed manner. On the day of the move-out clean, my schedule got super screwed up by the movers, and because moving day is, as a universal rule, absolute garbage, I knew in my heart I was going to be unable to return to the apartment in time to meet the Ground to Crown crew, and they wouldn't be able to clean it, and basically, everything was going to go to hell and argghhh. So I called Magdalene, stressing, and she immediately (and very kindly) postponed my cleaning by 4 hours. No arguing, or hiking up the price, or calling me names, or canceling the cleaning and keeping my deposit? Whaaaa? Anyway, the people who came to clean were Veronica and Leo, and they were efficient, friendly, and very thorough. The best part is that they took a bajillion before and after photos, so if my landlord tries to hold onto part of my security deposit by claiming this or that was messed up or filthy and I happen to disagree, Magdalene has time-stamped photos that she saves. Seriously, the day started off with my pet sitter canceling at the last minute so I had to have my dogs on leashes while the movers did their thing, and then one of my dogs escaped his harness and ran into morning rush-hour traffic while I waited for the moving truck (someone grabbed him before he got hit or got too far, thank god), and things actually went DOWNHILL from there with the mover (I'll leave a 1-star review of Budget Movers after this; check it out if you want your mind blown), and I was so fried by 11 AM I didn't know how I was going to get through the cleaning. Somehow, Ground to Crown took a moving day that sucked compared to other moving days and made it pleasant. That's a feat. read more

I am trying to get my house ready to list for sale by 8/31. There was a gigantic amount of house cleaning and painting to be done in my 5 bedroom, 4 bath, 3600 square foot house, and was facing what could have been a potentially costly and needed to keep to my budget. With just ten days advanced notice she scheduled my work to occur on 8/22, the day before our whole house carpet install occurring on 8/23. To preface, I have pretty high standards of cleanliness, so I never expect a perfect job from cleaners, however, my overall experience with this company was far from a 5 star service. I was deciding between 1 or 2 stars, but I gave it 1 extra star because the company tried to do right and sent the cleaners again after doing a terrible job the first time and you can expect them to come 'clean' your house with a short notice, all with the drawbacks of below average cleaning. They ask that you not be at the home while they clean, huge mistake. Be there or be aware of what they are doing, make sure they aren't shitting away time. We wanted fewer burdens on ourselves while moving into a 1200 SF house by hiring a cleaning service, only to realize at the end, we were out half a grand, a missed day's work, later move in date, and finding surprise areas that needed to be cleaned again, or was never cleaned to begin with. We were initially quoted 4 hours of work to finish the house (which I thought was unrealistic), but later that day they asked for an extension for another couple of hours. On top of that, we paid $4/window extra for window cleaning (I'm still not exactly sure what I paid for - opt out of this service). My fiancé sent them home, but when I came home, I was horribly disappointed by the 'work' they had done that supposedly needed more time. I ran a white paint roller across our kitchen counters which caught all the left over dirt and grime. My socks were still turning black as I walked across it barefoot. I found left over cobwebs and trash clearly showing they had never even tried to clean EASILY accessible places, windows still had sticky grime on sills, thresholds clearly not scrubbed, etc. No work on corners, behind and under sinks cabinets, etc. I can continue with all the things they missed or the things they CLEARLY never even bothered to clean, but hopefully you get my point. I called the company expressing my deep dissatisfaction of the work they had done and luckily they sent over the two ladies (henceforth Lady1 and Lady2) again beginning of next week. I changed my moving date, making new arrangements so my furniture/boxes wouldn't interfere with the cleaning. This time I decided to stay and help with the cleaning. They arrived around 930am and I start off by showing them all the things they missed or did inadequately and they start off with an adversarial attitude, making excuses, etc. Keep in mind, I'm not haggling them, I'm trying to be extra understanding, I'm even there to help them clean in areas that I asked them to work on that probably needed an extra hand while staying completely out of their way. At this point, I want at least a mediocre job. Within the first hour the house was already looking better because they were actually working, getting corners and details that I had to point out they missed. Good thing I was there (missing a day of work), because Lady1 started packing up to leave before she got to all the line items I pointed out to the company. She starts to be even more adversarial, even calling her boss... whatever. Luckily the company allowed me to have their services for as long as I needed. Lady1 asks me to show her what they missed and I point to one area of the house they clearly never touched. She does such a shit job. Lady2 spent almost 20-30 minutes on trims and threshold and you're telling me you did this entire area and you can't get into the grooves? Bull. Lady2 takes over and within the actual time frame it should've taken Lady1 to finish, she does a fantastic job. So I tried to give Lady1 tasks that were easy to do like cleaning the sink and countertop. She did it with a snail's pace, while I worked on harder parts of the kitchen, like the floor and baseboards. At this point Lady1 questions my masculinity in relation to how 'particular' I was being with the cleanliness of the house, which I artfully deflected to my upbringing, to which she said "she felt bad for me." Good conversation, now let's continue cleaning... you know, the reason why I'm paying you, the reason why I missed work, the reason why you're here again, because you couldn't do it right the first time. After about a total of 2.5 hours, (1 person working hard at the level I want someone to work at, while 1 person works half-assed) the house was finally looking and feeling a lot better. I remember pretty distinctly the state of the house before they cleaned the first time. If both had done a solid 4-5 hours of hard work on the first day, the house would have ended up cleaner than what it ended up being. I don't even know if they had a vacuum cleaner, but if they invested in a good high horsepower shop vac, they would've easily done a better job. Anyway, if you have rental property that you only need to get to the level of "clean enough," this is the service for you. If you like a clean dirt free kitchen counter, maybe not so much. read more

I had a very unfortunate experience with this company, similar to the review by Andrew. It was unbelievable how little was actually cleaned in the amount of time. As the time was extending way beyond the estimate, and lack of progress couldn't be explained, I was asked to stop checking on them so they wouldn't feel like someone was looking over their shoulders. Wow! I just sold my house and hired ground to crown to do the move out cleaning. They only had 4 hours, as I was on a tight schedule with the new owners moving in at noon the day after I moved out. I cannot recommend this husband and wife company. For starters, they have fairly poor communication skills; not terrible, but not great, either. It often took several attempts to get Magdalene to respond. That said, one of my two biggest issues is that I when setting up the cleaning Magdalene told me to send her a list of what we needed completed. Both on the telephone, as well as on the list I sent her, FLOORS were number 1. I told her that if they cleaned nothing else, floors and baseboards needed to be done. When the husband and another worker finally came to our house to clean the first time... miraculously the floors weren't cleaned at all. When I called to ask why our floors were not cleaned the excuse I was given was that they often cleaned floors last and they couldn't get to them (though she later admitted poor communication within their company). Yet we were still charged 3 hours time for their services. Which brings me to my single largest complaint: Their services included cleaning exactly 2 bathrooms and a few windows in a 3 hour window of time. 2 people. For 3 hours. That's 6 man hours. To clean 2 bathrooms. For $210. When I voiced my concern about their lack of scope (I had also sent in a bunch of photos showing what we'd expected versus what we received), Magdalene got somewhat impatient with me and basically told me those 6 man hours were necessary to "deep clean" 2 of our bathrooms. "We do more than your basic housekeeper does, so it takes a bit more time to really get in there and clean it to our standards." I'm sorry, but 6 man hours to clean 2 (dirty, but certainly not filthy) bathrooms is just insane. I feel very, very let down by this company. In the end we went on Care dot com and got an amazing house cleaner for an incredible rate. And that "deep cleaning" they bragged about as their excuse? Well, it didn't hold a candle to our current housekeeper who cleans our entire house twice per month, top to bottom, without leaving a trace of gunk or residue on anything in our house. I did some serious looking just to come on here and say that with confidence. Everything in my house sparkles for half the price. I would not recommend this Ground to Crown. read more

Messaged Magdelene Sunday evening and she got back to me within 5 mins literally even though she was not open on Sunday. She was able to schedule me in right away. The cleaners I had were Leo and Mandy and I would ask for them again! They made the bathroom kitchen amazing! I have to give props to Leo for making the oven we were left with look like it was new! Mandy was able to get rid of a giant spider that creeped me out and all the bathrooms and cobwebs! Seriously I would look to Ground to Crown again even if it's just for an after party clean up. Magdalene and her team were AMAZING....we were selling our house, but already living cross country and so coordinated with Magdalene to get our house completely deep cleaned from top to bottom in preparation to sell. After years of having tenants living in the house, it was really grimy. The level of detail, hard work, care, and communication with Ground to Crown was incredible. Magdelene and her team were amazingly committed, great partners in helping us get our house to market. I would definitely connect with Ground to Crown for deep cleaning, regular cleaning, pre-post move cleaning, window washing, and exterior house cleaning. Amazing service. It was the week before my wedding and my life was a mess, and my home looked like it. Called them and then sent staff right over, the next day. They cleaned our two level home and went above and beyond to take care of items I hadn't even requested. Definitely calling again around the holidays, so worth the peace of mind. read more

I am very picky when it comes to house cleaning, thse people out did all myself expectations! My son recently had surgery and I thought it would be nice to have his house cleaned for him. I found GtoC on yelp and they have been amazing at all expectations. First, they got black to me within an hour of leaving a message. I was concerned that they were more of a staging business and not detail focused. Boy was I wrong! They were very professional and detail focused. My son has 2 cats and ther was an issue with cat hair every where. They did an amazing job of focusing on the details, didn't miss a thing.
