This little store is hidden behind the Garden Shed on Main Street in Cambria. There is lots of free off street parking right behind the store for convenience. We wandered into Grow because I created a large succulent garden during the pandemic by taking daily rides to all the succulent vendors in SLO. My succulent garden has grown, as has my love of the kooky twisty Dr. Seuss-like plants. I am also happy that they thrive without water! We loved the succulents, displayed in front of and behind the store. There were some new ones, and many large ones that would be a fun addition to any collection. Surprisingly, what really caught my attention was the large collection of minerals in the main indoor room. I collected them as a nerdy kid, and now my grandson loves them from reading the Harry Potter books! read more

We had gone to another nursery before this stop. They were closed and referred us here and I'm so glad they did!! I am obsessed with plants and they had so many neat plants and inexpensive too!! I'm not from around here so I didn't know if my plants would survive where I live. I took the chance and can only hope that they will live. I've learn how to propagate my succulents successfully with the ones I have so hopefully these will be successful too! Staff were really friendly and helpful. They answered questions that I had. This store "Grow" in the courtyard of "The Garden Shed" is a must stop for succulent and cacti enthusiasts. They carry a good variety of rare and beautiful succulents and cacti. As well as air plants and other indoor and outdoor plants. Staff is always friendly and very helpful. They also provide plant care information when you purchase a plant. The rare succulents and cacti are priced on the high end but still pretty reasonable compared to other sellers I have purchased collectible and rare varieties from. read more

This place is amazing! Gorgeous selection; even if you're not looking to buy, the shop is organized like a plant museum with educational placards and incredible displays. A beautiful orange cat strolls around like he owns the place, and the service blows away what I've seen at any other nursery. I left with a $5 sedum, safely packaged in a cardboard box with newspaper, and was given explicit instructions on how to keep him alive. Grow is a great place for succulents, cacti, air plants, and ferns, ranging from full-sun to full-shade and none of which requiring much water. This is the best way to go to drought-proof your garden. A perfect place to shop for a small gift or something to add to your own place. There are plenty of pinch pots, fence hangings, and other planting accessories available. My favorite shop in Cambria - I look forward to coming back! read more

Is your thumb blackened? Okay, maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But If you'd like to see some pretty succulent plants, this is the place! It's owned by the son of the owner who runs Cambria Shores Inn where we're staying at. Alls I gotta say is they did an amazing job landscaping the Inn. Not to mention the little plant touches in the rooms. Very minimal, yet beautiful. We popped in here on a pretty damp morning and we were in awe at how beautiful everything looked. Seriously, it's a nice change from your typical garden full of lush green plants and lawn. I felt like I was in some secret desert. The plants are totally affordable, some I saw were $5 and you're sure to get some expert tips from the owners as they know their stuff. In the back, you'll find more plants and various art work done by local artists. Some of these art pieces are totally affordable too, so no excuse that handmade stuff isn't accessible to the average folks wallet! You won't find this stuff at the garden department at Target or Home Depot because all that crap is mass made by some machine. This place will inspire you to want to garden and for those of you who forget to water your plants, why not pick up a couple plants? You can probably forget to water a plant for a month and it will still look amazing! At least your friends and neighbors will say "Wow, Bob I didn't know you had such a green thumb! Is that Aloe Vera? Can I get spinet of that? I cut up my face as you can see from bleeding on my face while shaving this morning because I was totally hung over still ... you're a real life saver!" I didn't pick anything up, but I might stop by on the way back home to see if I can find anything small for my kitchen window. If anything, come to ooo and ahhh at Mother Nature at her best on your way down highway 1. PS. There are some random doves in the back. My favorite shop in Cambria. Whenever my husband and I are in town, we make sure to stop by to pick up a few plants to take back to our home in Seal Beach. I love spending time checking out the creative ways that Nick and his staff display their beautiful and unique succulents and airplants. Not only is this one of the more artistic plant shops I've been to, but their prices are very reasonable. I am pleased to say that our home is filled with airplants that we have collected over the years from Grow, and ALL of them are alive and thriving. We also have a beautiful wood box full of succulents that Nick personally put together for us a couple years ago, and this has become a statement piece on our porch. On our last trip to Cambria, we picked up three large wall mounted airplants that are absolutely stunning. You really can not go wrong with anything you pick up from Grow. The staff here are so helpful, knowledgeable and incredibly creative. I LOVE this place!! read more

At Moonstone Gardens is a sign declaring that Grow is now located at 2024 Main Street in Cambria. Moonstone Gardens possesses an absolutely breathtaking viewscape of the Pacific Ocean. It was a matter of turning around to head back to the East Village in order to track down Grow. The Garden Shed is located at the street; Grow is located to the rear of The Garden Shed well back into the trees. What a great space to have for a nursery business! There is also well-thrown pottery available for sale. The succulents are easy to view--outside and inside. The collection of succulents is inspiring for the gardener. Lithops, the living stones, were the specific succulents I was seeking. Two plants were available, enough for a start on a new adventure. Lithops thrive under certain conditions, a certain kind of benign neglect. They can be overwatered very easily, and I do know that there's a good chance that these plants may not be able to survive. Nonetheless, I am willing to have them in my life. Having Grow in the East Village is a delight. Please venture back into Grow. Truly it's a wondrous space, and Nick is a proprietor who enjoys his work. read more

If you want succulents and are in the area, this is the place to go. They have a really great assortment of succulents on display. The really great part about this place is the staff. We were there and a guy named Nick helped us out. He was extremely, extremely knowledgeable about the plants that they had on site and gave us great advice on what to purchase and how to care for them. Totally worth the visit just to check out the cool plants that they have onsite, and the large enclosure that they have for some birds to nest in. I walked away with a few little succulents that will act as a living souvenir of our trip down there. Totally worth it! Cool stuff! read more

We stopped by Grow on a recent trip to Hearst Castle, and it was great! We originally intended to just take a peek around the gardens of mainly succulents, cacti and scented geraniums, but ended up purchasing a few to take home. The ones we chose were in little 2'' pots and were $2 each - that's even cheaper than Home Depot. Even though the weather was extremely rainy, the plants were being taken care of (shielded by plastic sheeting) and weren't neglected/rotting like the ones I've seen at OSH. The guy working there was very helpful, gave us a care sheet for the succulents and told us about their watering needs. I'm definitely coming back on our next trip to Cambria. read more

We love visiting Grow. It's right off of Highway 1 just south the Main Street in Cambria. You drive up the hill a block or so and then park right there in front. You get a killer view of the Pacific ocean from there, so that alone is worth the trip. Once you go inside they have a nice selection of pottery (some of it made by one of the owners) and one of the best selection of succulents I've seen. If you stop out back, there are lots more succulents and some nice "arrangements" available. Off to the left there are stairs that lead up to Moonstone Gardens which is a free public garden which features mostly succulents. The owner of Grow told us that the garden is in the process of being rebuilt but we saw all kinds of cool (and large plants there). We left with a few new plants for our balcony garden at home and look forward to visiting next time we are in Cambria. read more

I feel sort of bad only giving 3 stars compared to some of the other reviews, but honestly, I just wasn't overly impressed. I am a big (okay, huge) fan of the Garden Gallery in Morro Bay, but since I'm staying in Cambria this visit, I thought I'd try someplace new. They had some very cool, unique (to me) succulents and I did find Nick very helpful and knowledgeable, but I felt their prices were high. I admit - I like paying only a couple bucks for a smaller version that I know will grow bigger. Simply, I get more for my money that way. Another plus, I learned the name of a very cool fern they sell that I also have at home - Hare's Foot Fern! Check 'em out - beautiful and bizarre. read more

We've got plenty of nurseries around here (Orange County) but for some reason, it's tough to find good succulents.
