The drinks are the star here. Creative without being overdone, and clearly built with intention. I went for the Old Fashioned flight, which featured bourbon, rye, mezcal, and rum variations (they let me tailor it to my spirit interests) each one distinct, balanced, and actually worth slowing down to compare. It's not just a gimmick; it's a thoughtful way to showcase how versatile a single cocktail can be. Service matched the quality of the drinks as they were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without feeling forced. You can tell they care about what they're serving. The vibe is what really seals it. Lively but not chaotic, polished but still relaxed. It feels like a place you can settle into, whether you're starting the night or lingering for one more round. After eating a pre-Easter lunch with my family, my oldest son suggested a visit to Gruene's Last Call for cocktails. I am always up for cocktails, and since it opened at 3:00 we headed right over from the restaurant. Let me tell you I loved this place. It smelled amazing when we walked in, but nobody else noticed. I asked the server about it, and she claims they don't do anything to scent the place. As we ordered cocktails, it became obvious to me that it is the fresh ingredients they use that do the job. That is especially true for the cool device that put a huge smoke bubble on top of my daughter in law's drink. Talk about hocus pocus! I shamefully admit to having two cocktails and resigning as driver. My wife was more than happy to drive us back to San Antonio. We were in her car, and she should probably always be the driver. Too many modern amenities for my taste. But, I digress. I started with a Born Reckless, which was described as, "Notes of oak barrel, kiss of peanut, maple, finished with a touch of black walnut. House Peanut Infused Redemption Rye". It was an amazing cocktail. The peanut taste came through really well. It was not at all sweet and VERY potent. My second drink was the Espresso Yo'Self, described as, "Notes of aged agave, bittersweet dark roast, chili spices, the slightest touch of cherry, wrapped together with an ice cold creamy finish. Grand Brulot." It was a stunning concoction that really gave me cocktail pleasure. We all liked our drinks, but I didn't pay attention to what the others ordered. I will definitely come back here for the atmosphere, for drinks, and for the fantastic service. I should mention that there only seemed to be one person working in the front of the house. The server also mixed the drinks. We left just as the place was starting to fill up. read more

We discovered this place after dinner at The Gruene Door. We walked in and it seemed almost seemed out of this place but in a good way. We were told to tell the server things we liked to drink and would be served a play on our choices. The bar tender was on point except for my husband's drink which smelled horrible (it was a gin drink). However, they made it right by changing his drink and that was wonderful. This is the best bar in the NB area. Better than sidecar which is really saying something. The drinks were unique with great flavor profiles. We went to Gruene's Last Call at the recommendation of a couple of our friends, we were not disappointed. Love the ambiance! For our first round, I had the Miracle on Gruene Street and I LOVED it! My husband had the WWLD and he loved his as well. The second round I had the Angel Wings and it was just okay. My husband had the Two Tickets to Paradise and while he enjoyed it, it was essentially the same as his first one. I do think that if they offered a little snack (nuts, pretzels, snack mix, etc.) it would be nice. We will definitely be back! read more

If i lived closer, I would definitely be a regular here! I loved everything about this place. it was a happy little accident that we walked in at all, because We were actually trying to go to the place right across the street. (Gruene-tini's , it was closed) We actually got there right before they opened, but they went ahead and let us in anyway. THe bartender and owner were both really cool. The bar is pretty new, I think they said they had been open for about 5 weeks. The decor had a speak easy vibe to it, with dark moody colors, exposed brick, vintage furniture, and lots of gold accents. The drinks were amazing! I'm not a fan of fruity, sweet things, and the drinks here were perfect for my pallet. I ordered the Flying Monkey first, which was kind of like banana bread in alcohol form. Then a classic dirty martini (perfect) and finished with something I don't remember the name of, but tasted like ginger lemonade. They were all delicious, the bar games were fun ( I had never heard of close the box before), the service was great. I was honestly not impressed and neither were any other guests in my group. The menu is convoluted and really just talks about the flavor profile versus the actual liquor that is going into the drink. They will not modify the ingredients for you, even if you mention you have an allergy, which I thought was extremely uncalled for. Additionally even though they have a pretty much full bar, they will not make any drink that is not on their little menu. I did hear that they switch out their menus pretty frequently. As for that, they had provided some drinks that were off menu to one table and when we asked about it gave a firm no to us to try. There was really a lot of odd favoritism going on. If you knew them or were a regular, they were extremely friendly. We just didn't get that same welcoming. There's also no food or small bites offered. The seating was pretty cramped indoors. Service was sloooooooow. Had to grab our own menus after 20 minutes. Additionally, the Decour is really dark and dingy and very mismatch... They have basically every type of light fixture you could ever see. I see a lot of good reviews on here, but I don't get it read more
