I've been hesitant to write review here because I'm selfishly so happy I don't want them to become too popular but I also want a small business to thrive !! David and Devin and everyone there are amazing !!! Devin is so patient with my son - who is 2!!!! And he is the toddler whisperer with him. Other kids places like sharkys and mall spots - would make my kid scream and cry but here he's so calm and even has quiet clippers and he encourages my kid to be independent and sits willingly. I've spent some time and a lot of money trying to take my son to just about every specialty salon in the Mission Viejo area. He's very texture averse, and absolutely hates the sounds, as well as the feelings, that are involved in getting his haircut. It's a really difficult to process sensory overload for him. The first time we went, he ended up on my lap (our normal routine) and had "Grumpy" himself cut his hair. He wasn't scared or having his normal fit by far. When we went back the last time, he was able to just sit on the booster for the cut while Grumpy cut his hair. He did an amazing job and it was more than a miracle to me to have someone able and willing to cut my son's hair without all of the usual trauma to us both. Mom's out there, I know it might not necessarily be where you'd think of as a place for a haircut for your toddler boy, but let me tell you, if I could give them six stars I would. read more

I've been bouncing around South OC for a good Barber shop close to me. I tried out Grumpy's for the first time. David cut my hair. Finally! Someone who can do it right first time! This is old school no BS barbershop and I like it! I came in on a Friday but I did call first to make an appointment because I know they're short on employees. David was very cool, low key, not overly nice but not grumpy either! Just old school guy that cuts your hair right and that's the way I like it. Pick a subject to talk about and he'll chime in. Or keep your mouth shut which is also cool. That's a barbershop. I shall return. Oh and they had the AC on! That right there is worth one star already! The last barbershop I used in Missions Viejo was noisy with loud music, no AC just used fans (hot), and weird, socially awkward barbers. read more

This is more of a review for Jacob "Cobb the Barber". I only started going to Ray's because Jacob moved barber shops and started working here. After moving to Orange County from Nor-Cal, Jacob was the first barber (after trying many) that actually got my haircut right. I comb my hair in a small pompadour with short tapered sides. If you live in South County and don't want to drive out to one of those "Novelty" Rockabilly/Old School/I'm too cool barber shops make an appointment with Jacob at Ray's. I love this place. The owner's a ball breaker just like that barber on Gran Torino and it's always fun to crack wise. They're "grumpy" but in a fun way so, If they offend you, you're a douche that needs to be offended. I don't mind the $20 price. Maybe there's a cheaper place? Who cares. I get my hair cut about 3X a year so this place costs as much every year as an average Saturday night black out. Ok fine, I'll subsidize this by staying home 1 out of 52 Saturdays, my haircuts are now free for the year and we now have a Sunday doesn't have to start out with whiskey/vomit breath. I have only had Danny and David cut my hair. But I know that they all do great cuts. This business has been in Mission viejo for decades. Generations of people can not be wrong. Lost a star due to the "lounge" the employees use the place as when they don't have a customer. I gotta say Oogie gave a great cut, and line up, but other barbers laying in their chairs and watching & loudly listening to their Instagram or Youtube. With 2 TV's in the space, even they didn't have the volume up, but those guys were just oblivious to the fact we go to a Barber to Chill and Groom. I also wonder why they have a million products out on their station shelves, but don't seem to use, or even offer to use them on you. read more

I started coming to Ray's about 2 years ago. I've have had my haircut by all the barbers there and they are great. I usually go and see Dave, but all the barbers are very good. The shop has an old barber shop feel and jokes are always being told. They have a TV on in the reception area with news or sports running.
