Look. I'm a married guy, with a small child, wife and dog. I work, wife works, kid is in 5 extramural activities. Basically this means that I don't have a second to myself. It's on, on, on..... everyday. Even at home, time to myself is rare. Unless I'm at Right Place Men's Grooming. This, dear reader , is my Oasis. It's a place that only cuts Men's hair. Run by Janette, a nice lady who only has one client in her business at a time. "Would you like a beer?", she asks when you enter. "Snacks? Peanuts?" You promptly sit in her comfy chair and gives you the remote to the big screen. Beer? Check. Peanuts? Check. Remote? Check. And she starts the grooming process. Clips my eyebrows. Its 40% off for your first time so my cut came out to about $23, not bad at all. [Haircut] I had Jeanette, who is now probably in my all time, go-to person. There is something about a good hairstylist/barber to a man where if they do a stellar job and you like them....they become your friend for life. Instant trust you feel and see. While on holiday here in Lake Forest, I decided to treat myself for a manicure yesterday at RPMG. Meeting Janette enhanced the entire tone of the week and her technique and delightful demeanor delivered a terrific manicure session. During the manicure, Janette asked me if I ever had a facial. This was something heretofore I have never experienced. After listening to her description and the its benefits, I scheduled and appointment for today. Oh my! I made an appointment They did not honor the YELP discount. They did not tell me the cost prior to cutting my hair and beard. My hair and beard were crooked and i looked ridiculous. (They label the lady as a "Master Barber"... They were closing shop as they were finishing my haircut (tv off...some lights off) and other "family staff" was standing around on their phones... Then the son tell me $65. i was completely shocked and i asked about the 44% discount on YELP and he didn't respond and started to put things away. First impressions, I was greeted at reception and I was asked to complete a short profile form. No biggie. I was also offered a beverage (Corona, Heineken, Coors light, wine, tea, coffee, coke, diet coke, water). Wow! There was also a snack assortment, which i didn't sample, but perhaps others have? The men's bathroom and changing area is extremely well appointed. This area is obviously where the owner Jeanette(sp?) focused a lot of attention. It is very clean, modern and much more impressive than the 18/8 in Irvine. Nikki did a great job with my hair, and yes, this is the same Nikki of 18/8 fame. For those trying to figure out where she relocated her business, look no further. She still has her razor skills and oh, wait for it, they have a warm shave cream dispenser! Shoe Shine: Wear your dress shoes because you are offered a complimentary shoe shine if your service is over $35. Another positive compared to 18/8 where shoe shines cost extra. Location: as others mentioned, in the same strip mall with Mimi's Cafe on Lake Forest, just a few stoplights from the 5 freeway. Closer to the Pep Boys, not the side with Wing Stop. Definitely love the straight razor as well that was just icing on the cake. I asked Janette to do something different with my hair. I left with an absolutely great haircut. This was hands down the best hair cutting experience I've ever had. I went to check this place out with a buddy of mines last week. After checking in at the counter, the employees welcome you to their bar which contains complimentary beverages and snacks for you to enjoy while you wait. This classy dude named Justin offered us a complimentary Corona which was awesome. When it was time for my haircut, the barber Ben greeted me happily and gave me a rundown on the experience. They provide a really nice gown for you to wear instead of your shirt so that you don't get your hair on it. I showed Ben what style I wanted (pidgeotto haircut) and he knew exactly what to do. The overall experience was pleasant. He gave a nice hair wash and caters to whatever water temperature you prefer. You can tell he's incredibly skilled and passionate about his work. After he was done, I was excited and more than content with my haircut. I got a final hair wash, a small shave, and then a wet towel treatment which was nice. He then blowdrys and styles your hair for you. My friend was also extremely happy with his haircut and nosewax (completely painless :D ). This review is specifically centered on Nikki's services because I have not received haircuts from anyone else at RPMG. As a guy, it's hard to find the right barber. If you're like me, you fall into the category that avoids shady $20 haircut places but also can't justify paying $80+ at a beauty salon. Sadly, I am moving out of state and will not frequent Nikki. There are 5 reasons why Nikki is amazing: (1) She listens. And not just listens passively like most others. She actively engages in your instructions of the haircut and double- and triple-checks everything before proceeding. It is refreshing to get someone who actually hears what you want and strives to deliver it. (2) She is flexible. Nikki is knowledgeable and confident enough to pivot when needed. She will stop and ask you about a thought that she just had. I never minded this because she is never pushy and extremely well-mannered and respectful of the process. The process matters because cutting hair is not just about the outcome but about the way. Her way never left me underwhelmed or dissatisfied. (3) She is skillful. I respect Nikki's mind-blowing (on the way to be a pun) ability to cut hair via the myriad of tools in her arsenal. Some feel more comfortable with the clippers. Others prefer the razor. She handles both with great ease and never expresses preference for either tool. That's hugely reassuring. I love that she always did my cuts with a razor, a higher-level skill in my opinion. (4) She is meticulous and punctual. A true professional you can rely on. With Nikki you are never worried about a job half-done. She performs at the same superb level whether or not she is sick or sad (rarely happens). Being a professional partly means never bringing in personal life into the professional life. Nikki succeeds at this, too. (5) She is nice. Her attitude, her demeanor, and just generally as a person. Nikki remembers you as a person and not just as another number. She is honest and decent and you look forward to hanging out every time you come in. Lastly, to speak about RPMG in general, I love the shoe shining service while you get your cut. Really convenient. Workers are friendly, but the haircut was disappointing. I told the stylist what I wanted and even showed a picture of the look. He sounded like he understood, but ended up cutting my hair too short. The other frustrating part was he didn't ask and confirm things during the cut to make sure we were on the same page with the haircut I wanted. All of the other reviews are absolutely correct. Janette is amazing with what she does. Her staff is friendly, professional, and accommodating. I came in to prepare for my wedding, and returned after. It is what a man's salon should be. I give it four and not five starts for two reasons. 1) The pricing is higher than it should be. Not that the service isn't exceptional, it is But, they could increase their client list and increase repeat customers with some service that are affordable. 2) The location is horrific. It is in Lake Forest, and I live in Lake Forest. It is close to me, but who wants to pay premium dollar in a premium men's salon in a strip mall that is half empty? read more

This is honestly the best haircut I have ever had! I am extremely picky with my hair and have gone to many barbers showing them the same picture of what I want and none have given me what I was looking for. I showed the pictures to the barber here named Janette Tran and she perfectly gave me exactly what I wanted. Wonderful all around experience. Upon arrival I was greeted with a complimentary beverage. Once it is time to get your haircut they have you change into a robe so you do not get hair on your shirt which is awesome. It's all fully draped... so that no one sees your big belly and hairy back. She starts with a cleanser, then exfoliates, and... HEY! WHERE'D YOU GO!! Get back here, fool! Let's see if I can make it easier. She uses warm steam on your back, then lotion. Feels good. She massages your arms, your hands, and your back. She gets her elbows into it, too. You'll hear yourself saying, "Oh my god. That feels really nice." You'll be so relaxed by the end of it that you may need a taxi to take your tired ass home. I left there completely dead to the world. Had to take a nap. So huddle up, boys. My advice rings true. If you're a man's man, this is the place for you. You'll be pampered beyond belief. Yeah, I was one of those Supercuts customers from my 20s on. Although I had some great stylists there, the drive to my regular shop was getting to be too much of a hassle. So, when I saw the ad for this nearby place I had to try it. So about the price: I get a cut and a style for $49, a glass of drinkable wine and no rush. Oftentimes, a neck/shoulder massage. So while the place is not low-priced, the value is really high in my opinion. The setting is nice, and the stylists (I have had Janette, Summer and Danielle on various visits) very good. They have different personalities, from quiet to chatty, so choose your speed. They all know how to cut hair for us older guys, yes even doing what they can with that thinning, thinned or slim-none hair. Bottom line is I don't even consider going anyplace else. read more

This place rocks. First of all, I called from a block away about a half hour before official opening and Janette answers the phone. I wanted to know if I could come in and get a cut since I was in the area. She wouldn't even have me think of waiting a half hour at Starbucks to get in; she told me to come right over, was waiting for me at the door when I arrived and greeted me by name (although I never recall giving it to her, so she is clearly some kind of powerful wizard). What a place. Beautiful, modern and masculine decor in grey and black tones. Contemporary textured cement floors, lighting in all the right places, clean and polished as can be. Janette and her partners have clearly thought of everything: all the good men's magazines in the lobby, coffee or something else to drink offered upon arrival, a changing room for styling smocks (so you don't get the little hairs under your shirt - so scratchy and annoying, that is) off the tasteful and large bathroom and thoughtful consultation and a wonderful short massage before the cut. Janette started the consultation by asking me what I didn't like about my hair. It's a thought provoking question because, even though I'm sure she knew by looking at me what was wrong, I was able to bring to light what others had had difficulty with in the past and what I didn't like when styling my own hair. She also asked about the context of my interactions with others: what type of job, how professional, etc. She was quick to make suggestions that left me thinking "hm, that's perceptive..." Coffee arrived - just to my liking. Janette made sure to take breaks during the cut so that I could get a sip here and there. She spent a good long while getting the cut just right (all with shears and comb), taking care to put in the right amount of time with the texturizing blade. She trimmed my brows, used a straight razor on the back of my neck to get rid of the nasty animal fur and in general was more detail oriented than any other stylist I've ever had. If you want a $12 haircut, then by all means, keep going to Supercuts or Great Clips. But keep in mind, you get what you pay for. There are a few good stylists at some of those places, but it's always hit-or-miss. I've switched from bouncing from place to place to always getting my hair cut at RPMG, because I am always guaranteed a perfect haircut. It is a little pricier than those other places, but like I said, you definitely get what you pay for. Jesse at the front desk is great, and as soon as you walk in you're greeted with a smile and a beer (if you so choose). I always book with Jeanette, the owner, who is incredibly nice and a great hairstylist. They are very accommodating of late and last-minute appointments, helping me fit necessary haircuts into my schedule.
