I hate leaving negative reviews but I feel that I need to warn potential customers about Paul, a barber at Boardwalk Barbershop. This review is about Paul specifically and not the shop. I have received excellent service from the other barbers here. Paul gave me the absolutely worst haircut and beard trim I have ever received on Friday 9/26. He took chunks off my mustache and left my neck raw and irritated after the shave. I had to shave it all off at home because it was unfixable. Paul cut my hair too short and uneven, making it difficult to style. I am appalled by his poor barber skills. I would like to speak to the owner of Boardwalk Barbershop. I don't know what happened to the barbers here but most of them are gone (Logan, Jason and Sam). I went in for a cut and got the worst haircut from Kobi. Sides are uneven. Asked for a mid fade and got a high fade. Asked for a inch off the top and he went and got the clippers!? Worst haircut ever. I would put Supercuts above this place. Never coming back again and would ask everyone to stay away. Edit: the guy that busted out the clippers when I asked for one inch off is liking my comments on not coming back. Henrik is a great guy and gives the best haircut. I travel far away from home to schedule cuts with him because whenever I go anywhere I else, I am disappointed that my cut wasn't done as well as Henrik cuts it and I end up regretting it. I highly recommend. read more

Jason is a good mix of professional and personable. You can tell he takes care of his equipment. My hair came out not greasy and sometimes gross like other barbers. Also there were zero stray hairs. Didnt need to wash my hair at all for loose hair. Impressive. He applied some pomade and other spray product , I am not sure , but it didn't produce the dreaded greasy result either. I am not usually a fan of product but his is nice and worked well for my hair. Jason is so professional , even when I'm late or have something happen and I miss an appointment he keeps it professional when we get together the next time not making me feel awkward , "thank you" Jason , ill be coming to see you for ever !! read more

No one will tell you that while there might only be 1 other customer waiting in the reception area, you're actually #8 in line with people that have appts. Fair enough, but at least tell me it's going to be over an hour wait despite what it looks like. On March 22nd, I booked an appointment with Jason using the app for the first time. My son had visited before with him, however, making it by phone call.  We booked his last appointment for the day. Unknowingly, he had limited his appointments due to a family affair he wanted to go to. My son had a full head of hair that he was trying to grow out for a while. The app gives no option to tell your amount or length of hair. As soon as Jason saw my son's hair, the crummy  vibe and passive aggressive comments began. Truth, I initially thought maybe I was misreading it. In that, I allowed some time to go by. Giving him the benefit of the doubt. His coworker straight across from him, I will add, had an equivalent sh¡t energy/vibe. I later was told by  Jason that they were supposed to leave with one another, and because my son walked in with a full head of hair on a booked appointment, they couldn't. First, I will say I have been living in this neighborhood for 20 years. However, I do not frequent many shops. So, in small talk with Jason, I asked him about the liquor store next door because on some odd days that I randomly went in, I didn't see the same people. So I asked him if they sold the place or if someone else took over? His response was that they're not all family. Emphasized with another crappy delivery, "not all Asians are related."  In other words, I'm ignorant and racist. Lol. Throughout the appointment, he reminded us of his time, how much he actually had to do, and if I went anywhere else, he'd be charging me 90 for the cut "easy." Then again, I reminded me he should have been out the door already. Also, I made sure I knew that's why he didn't take later appointments. Also, clarifying never did he think my son "would be his most difficult/ time-consuming cut of the week."  Then again, looking at the clock and literally counting the minutes and how far past he is on his time that he should've walked out the door. I'm leaving out plenty more, believe me. I will say I could have possibly still been reading him wrong. However, when it was all over, he went in for damage control and apologized for being so rude. It wasn't a real apology. You can feel that. Truth it was beyond rude. Sadly, my son really did like his work. In a past appointment, I treated Jason to his regular drink from Starbucks as well. At this point, due to his disgusting BETA character, I hope he runs into a brick barefoot to match it. Jason, I understand this is your craft, and there's shaping to done. I would've been happy to reschedule. It wasn't our fault you did not calculate all possibilities. I didn't walk out because you had already started on my son's hair. You handle yourself terribly.  It could've been avoided. In addition, please do not use my son's image in your portfolio. I'm sure you know the exact day and cut What is wrong with today's barbers? I mean, the clippers are so far up their butt. read more

Need a good haircut experience?! Go here. Walk up, sign in, and enjoy a libation from the beer fridge (they also have seltzer's for gluten-free). Drink fast since one of the talented barbers will be calling your name. They know what looks good, but you can also be specific. In about 20 to 40minutes (hey, I don't know how f'ed up you looked coming in), you'll be walking out a new man (or lady- yes females are welcomed). Personally, I go for the premium hot towel, hot foam, straight razor shave. Makes you feel like a million bucks, but yet it costs pennies on the dollar. read more

This place is the definition of an excellent haircut. The owner Hendrick knows what customer service is for a man. An excellent Master Barber. A cool interior and a cold beer make this place fun. Just the great conversation alone makes you want to come back but it's truly the haircut. This place knows how to give a great skin fade! Their beard trims are great and they even use a straight razor! My personal favorite is the '80s music. For all you soccer fans out there he has one of the TVs dedicated 24/7. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL BARBERS I just moved into Rancho Santa Margarita and was looking for a barbershop, and I came across Boardwalk Barbers in Mission Viejo. The website stated that it closes at 6 PM. So I called up there to find out if they took walk-ins and what was the latest time I could come. The guy who answered the phone said come before 5:30 PM. I informed him that I was on my way. I arrived at 5:22 PM and was greeted by blonde haired guy in the first chair to the right and another guy in the back chair on the right that was empty. I asked the guy with an empty chair if he could cut my hair and he said he's done for the day and the blonde hair guy echoed the same "we're done for the day." He was clearly the guy that answered the phone when I called and I told him that I just called and he told me to come before 5:30. All he said was "I'm sorry." No explanation or anything. He just said I'm sorry. Why would he tell me on the phone to come before 5:30 and then when I walk in, turn me away with no explanation? I told him I drove all the way up there because he told me it was ok to come and he just said I'm sorry. Come back tomorrow. Needless to say, but based on the unprofessional and inconsiderate manner in which they dealt with me, I'll never go back there. I ended up going to a place called John's Barbershop in Rancho, Santa Margarita and the total experience was First Class. And I will continue to go there instead. I would highly recommend John's Barbershop in Rancho, Santa Margarita. When it comes to service and class, Boardwalk Barbers gets 1 Star....because zero stars isn't an option. This isn't your 'typical' old barbershop where LOUD music is blasting, guys swearing & talking trashy, and forced to sit around piles of hair on the floor. NOPE; completely the opposite for around the same price! This was truly a breath of 'fresh hair.' From the moment we walked in, we were both WOW'd with the sleek look, the friendly greetings & the complete opposite of what we'd been use too. The owners took great pride when designing this shop! It has an industrial contemporary feel as you can see by the pictures. A sectioned off comfy seating area, CLEAN beautiful wood flooring & awesome barbers who are highly trained! Wouldn't recommend & so beyond disappointed. Unprofessional is an understatement! 2nd chair to left the, AVOID CARLA! My son had medium length hair when coming in Sunday, 2/17/19. I asked the woman not to use clippers, but only scissors, because we didn't want any type of shaved look. We wanted the top to remain longer in length with the sides and back shorter, but not shaved/faded. She asked if I had a picture, which I quickly pulled up. Since my son's hair was straight & long, the style shouldn't have been an issue. If it was, then as a professional, SHE should have said something, because I assume the first thing any good barber does is to assess the hair's texture and its integrity to see if the wanted style can be achieved. She starts and all seems to be going fine until she asks me if a portion looks OK. I said it seems to have "mushroomed" up over here and pointed to the area. She acts like, "oh, I'm not done, I'm just asking you how it looks so far." She says that she will fix it and starts cutting shorter which leads to the front being cut shorter. She then starts flipping his hair in front over to the right side of his head and was telling me that when it's down it will look like this. I had already told her upon sitting him in the chair exactly how his hair ALWAYS falls, which is to the LEFT. ALWAYS! There is no hiding the fact that you just cut a chunk so short that now you want his hair to "fall" over and cover it. She then attempted to berate me in front of my son, saying that I should never walk in to get a haircut without a picture and started in on how she had already gone through 7 styles with me??!! I LITERALLY threw my hands up in the air and told her, "I showed you a picture! If you were unable to achieve that look, you should have said something. You have chunks of hair missing here & here and it's way to short now. (his hair was way above his eyebrows!) At no point did I take a dig at your skills, so I am not sure why you just got flustered with me?" She literally looked at me and with cocky attitude said, "oh my "skills" were never in question." And did a hmph! UNPROFESSIONAL! Review your tapes if you have them owner! She then tried to pull herself together and was shaking her head saying, "I just want you to be happy with the haircut." TOO LATE! You chopped his hair off. The "look" will not be achieved for at least 2 months and after we go to an establishment that has professionals. Not everyone is looking for a buzz cut, which is clearly perhaps all this woman is capable of doing! NOW not only are your cutting skills in question, but so is your bad attitude and lack of professionalism. The proof is in the pictures. I literally walked out with a son who has hair like Lloyd Christmas from Dumb & Dumber! There is no "fixing" this. Hair is hair and it will grow, but you bet not only will I never come back here, but we will also never recommend your establishment. Also, as a side note from a mom to an establishment. If you have employees that cut children's hair, please ask them not to stand in front of your establishment and smoke and to wash their hands afterwards. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here for almost a couple years. Henrik cut me twice, two of the best cuts I have ever had. Carla the last time after 5 tries told me I make her feel like she wants to cry when I come in, and when I go home and look in the mirror I do. Some of the worst I have ever had. i was trying to stick with Jerome becacuse I don't work Mondays, but he seems very conservative and I asked for a bit more taken off this last time. So I went there cause a friend recommended it. Took my two kids there. Atmosphere was ok, the barbers were good with my kids but my god their haircuts are horrible. One of my kids looks like Lloyd from dumb and dumber and the other one looks like the guy used a rice bowl.
