The El Paso Fries are the standout star of the evening. The only thing I would add to the fries is a sunny side up egg. Otherwise, a mixture of beef and chorizo goes perfectly with the cheese and I really like the crispy fries. The chicken tortilla soup was a little bland. I do wish they added lime to it in order to give it a little bit more flavor. The chicken tamales were good but the salsa on it was doing a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to flavor. I do like that this food here isn't spicy that way. You can always add spice if you'd like. It was really easy finding parking and the restaurant had plenty of tables available on a Sunday evening. read more

Server recommend us to start the signature guacamole and LORD WHAT A TASTEFUL PLATE, beside they made it in your FACE like literally, all products really fresh and you can request to remove or add whatever you want, then we went with multiple plates and what impress me the most was of quick food was prepared and served, everything had a special flavor that you would enjoy in each bite.. Long time patrons of Guacamole, our neighborhood restaurant, really adore the staff and cozy corner unit the business occupies. Their name-sake really is an excellent option, the table side guacamole can be customized to the guest's preferences and always hits the spot. Daily specials are a great value for lunch and there's bound to be a drink special or two (but we always go for big mugs of draft beer). Many entrees will hit the spot, favorites include their real tacos and fajitas. Recently while we were dining, and after completing the first bowl of chips (served in a small stainless steel vessel) - we were informed that subsequent bowls would be an additional charge despite our purchase of drinks, an appetizer and entrees. While this is the choice of the owner and we respect that, it took us off guard that we weren't informed when we were seated that this policy had changed at the restaurant. It should be mentioned in the menus at least or verbally told to patrons upon arrival. It's a shame as well as the chips and salsa were definitely one of the draws to come to the restaurant. read more

Yes they do charge for additional chips and salsa which I find interesting- never had that before at any Mexican restaurant- Unfortunately I did not like the sauce on my enchilada, so that made it difficult to eat. I had a few bites but couldn't finish . My beef taco however was yummy and packed with beef and goodies. My husband said his quesadilla was extremely salty and could not eat it and he said he did not like the burrito at all- the sauce was not palatable which is disappointing. My son had the steak and said it was on the tough side but he did finish it. The skillet it was served on was extremely hot which made it somewhat difficult to cut and eat . Decided to try out a new spot in the Alafaya area, and this place didn't disappoint. The food was way better than I expected. We got the steak tacos that came with a side of rice & beans (the rice was a little bland) but the steak in my opinion was very tasty. I love how they cut the steak into little diced pieces. Also got the birria quesadilla, it was filled with flavor. Then ended with some dessert with the churros. I have to say these are one of the best I've had. Perfect amount of cinnamon and perfect crunch. It also had some sort of filling but couldn't really tell what it was. Think it was dulce de leche but I could be wrong. The service was 10/10. Our server was very attentive and super helpful. We went around 7pm and for the most part it was pretty busy for early dinner time. But with that said we were seated right away. Love how they have both inside and outside seating. With the outside area being covered so no need to worry about bugs! Being new to the area and looking for a good Mexican restaurant that is local and full of flavor....we stopped here one night and were not disappointed. This place is in a smaller strip mall, but has great decorations and an outdoor enclosed dining area that we sat in. The wait staff (Sebastion) was top notch, the food was great. Queso fundido was served in a molcajete that kept it hot and gave it a bit of the crusty bit that we all loved. Three of us had the pick 3 combo with a variety of fillings, the other 2 had different combo offerings. All were fresh and had great flavor. The horchata was excellent. Service is quick, kind, and helpful. Comfortable small little spot with about 15 tables inside and half that outside. My wife is Mexican and she had the Huarache with Al pastor meat. She really liked it. The Huarache has a thick boat shaped tortilla. She called it a gordita and it was great. The Al pastor was tasty and she was very happy. I had the tacos de birria. The meat and caldo (broth) was really good. I prefer flour tortillas and they offered it in flour but it's really supposed to be on corn tortillas. I should have gotten it on the corn but it was still good. Honestly the chips and salsa was the weakest link but likely due to my mother in law teaching me how to make her salsa from Jalisco. It was tasty but mine is better. The chips were nothing special. I'll be back for the main courses no doubt. Really good place and the price was very fair. read more

Let me start this review in a way I never have before, by mentioning the best item on their menu first: The Al Pastor Tacos. I've never experience better Al Pastor tacos than at Guacamole Mexican Grill, without a doubt, get these (especially with flour tortillas and shredded cheese, muy bueno). But as of late, they switched from free chips and salsa, to "the first bowl is free, after that is $3.50 per bowl". I have been dining here regularly (probably once a week for almost 6 years now) and was surprised that there was no warning of the chips change. We had barreled through the bowl as we normally do, and when the waitress came over to see our now empty small bowl of chips, she said "just so you know, we changed our chips, the first bowl is free and every bowl after is $3.50"... the look on our faces was utter shock. We asked if that was serious, and unfortunately she said yes. I have come here so often that the staff recognize us and know our order before we sit down. So to get lambasted without any notice before we plowed through the first bowl was shocking. But more shocking was the at the table next to us had 4 people and they got 2 bowls of chips to share. Then I saw someone at the bar got their own bowl of chips. So, 1 person gets 1 bowl, 2 people get 1 bowl. 4 people get 2 bowls. Ok, I'm not sure the methodology of how many persons equal how many bowls of chips you get free, but I understand that maybe you have people coming in and getting free endless chips with water. So, better idea? Seb, if you are reading this, "free endless chips with the purchase of an entree... if all they buy is a drink, no food, than $3.50 for chips" put it on the menu that way in BOLD LETTERS, or have the servers mention that IMMEDIATELY upon sitting down. I rarely give less than 4 stars on any review but, this let us down sooooo much. I pray that you fix this recent change, as we probably won't return until it is rectified in some manner where a table for 2 that might have gone through 3 bowls of chips with their entrees, is now not paying $10-13 dollars extra on their bill. Even adding a dollar more to each entree to combat the cost of chips would be a better fix. If we can fix this, we'll return and I'll happily change this to a 5 star review as that is what this restaurant truly deserves. read more

The food came out so fast and delicious. The atmosphere is great you have bar, outside and indoor seating options. The prices are right for the amount of food you get ! One of my favorite restaurants to visit on a weekly basis! So far, the food quality and service have been consistently good during all of our visits. We normally don't have trouble getting seats right away, and the servers are fairly attentive, especially Bianca. We always know we're in good hands whenever she's helping us. Currently, my favorite menu items have been the Mexican wings and the Quesadilla Birria. I haven't been able to work my way through trying more of the other menu items because they're just that good! Honestly, walking up to this restaurant and walking inside made me question my decision. It looked just like a quick service Mexican place but I was really pleasantly surprised. My friend and I sat at the bar around 6pm on a Monday night. The place was only about 30% full. But the staff was very sweet and the margarita special ( 2 for 1) was exactly what I needed. I enjoyed the margaritas more than a lot of other places. I got tortilla soup which I thought was very good. It wasn't somewhere that I would want to come and spend a ton of time with. This will be the second Mexican food restaurant we have tried in Florida. Looking for our "go to" spot. Service was very poor. I had to ask for my drink, twice. More salsa, twice. I'll do a pro and con list because that's about all I can say about it... Pros: Clean. Beer was cold. Wine margarita was pretty ok tasting. Fajita beef was tasty, although WAY TOO LITTLE OF IT. Salsa was tasty. Cons: No liquor, (for margs) only beer and wine. Service is non-existent. Chips were stale. Extremely noisy, and I mean LOUD. Carnitas, rice, and beans had zero flavor. I'm not sure what all the hype is about this restaurant. I've been there a few times now because they're close to my house and I have never been impressed. The place is very small and the seating isn't very comfortable, no booths and a lot of tables crammed into the small space. The food is a little pricey for what you get. The chips and salsa aren't unlimited and are sub par. The salsa tastes like tomato sauce from a can. Most of the sauces seem canned here. Nothing seems especially fresh or homemade. The service is fine but don't expect to be served with a smile or for them to go above and beyond for you. There are lots of better Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

I love Mexican food and this place is so convenient to us. It's been a while since we've been here and their Taco Week special (2 tacos for $5). Many of their other items are over priced for what you get. There's a reason this isn't our regular spot, and I don't think it will be. The new place in Avalon Park has a much better shot (The 1 Cantina). The taco special was a bargain but the moisture from the tacos caused the soft corn to erode as I was eating them. The cheese dip with Chorizo was also good, but for the price, there wasn't a whole heck of a lot of cheese and just a tiny bit of chorizo on top. I think it was between $6 and $7. Others at the table got the beef nachos (decent for the price), birria tacos (good), and the birria quesadilla which was the standout star, but also a pricy at almost $13. Even the side of rice and beans was pitiful. It looks to be about the size of small scoop of ice cream with of both the rice and the beans. Shameful! Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things. They have both Indoor and Outdoor dining and could use some sun-shades for the evening outdoor dining crowd. They may have some better lunch specials, but it's probably a skip for us for dinner. I'd rather venture a little further to Don Julio's or even Moe's or Chipotle for a bargain meal. read more

This is a good Mexican restaurant that is located in a small plaza on Alafaya Trail. The location prob doesn't help since you can't see It from the street and it's in a weird stretch away from Waterford Town Center and between residential areas of Waterford Lakes and Avalon Park. Luckily the word of mouth is pretty good because it seems to have pretty good business. It stayed busy on the Friday night we were there. The food is all very good. My daughter and I both wanted Birria and they offered Birria tacos and a Birria Quesadilla. Well, the only logical choice was that we ordered one of each to share. I ordered the tacos on corn tortillas. Three very generously filled tacos that were delicious. But if I'm being honest, I was sooooo jealous after tasting the quesadilla. She won the night for best order. And now I don't want birria anymore without cheese. We actually tried this place when it first opened and I remember being put off by the prices. And that's honestly the only reason we haven't been back until last week. This time around I tried to be less scrutinizing of the prices, but I still found the prices to be all over the place. I decided to try this spot out after seeing it was part of Orlando Taco Week and that they offer an awesome looking Margarita flight. However, When I got there I opted for the Blackberry Margarita instead which was pricey ($14) but delicious. I would have preferred if it was more icy but still perfect for these warm Florida nights. Their table side Guacamole is a must and was super fresh and delicious. I ordered the Flautas which comes in both Chicken & Beef versions and my daughter had the Kids Chicken Quesadilla. My only complaint is the screened-in outside patio area had so much traffic coming in and out from the hostess and customers that the door was open most of the time which allowed so many mosquitoes in. Since the restaurant is located in the back of the plaza and near the wooded area mosquitoes were everywhere. Eat local! Great spot for some really tasty Tex Mex food. They've got indoor and outdoor dining as well. Service has always been good and friendly. You get complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa seems homemade. It's very smooth and not chunky. I recommend you order the queso as well! They have a full bar plus Mexican beers on tap. The menu has all your standard dishes from tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, enchiladas, and chimichangas. All made fresh. You can just taste the quality in these dishes. They also have multiple specialty dishes like steaks, chicken, and seafood. I haven't tried any of those yet. Only recommendations are to have some hot sauces on the table and to offer different salsas. The place is tucked away so go find it and eat some fresh TexMex! read more

This was a restaurant out of our normal Mexican go-to. It's location is in a tucked away plaza down by Avalon. First impression is that it is a smaller restaurant and no liquor, but they do serve beer, wine, margaritas (pre mixed I'm assuming) and sangria. My ONLY complaint was that the tables in the middle of the restaurant were so SO close together. So close my hair may was probably almost touching the lady at the table behind me. Aside from that, the margarita I had was pretty darn good! Table salsa and appetizers-queso was delicious. The food was amazing and fast. I had the garlic shrimp, and I have to think there was a whole bulb of garlic on my plate (not complaining!).
