Popped in for an early dinner with the Missus the other day. We rode up on the Big Stick from The Woodlands and sat ourselves down after jawing with a local after we pulled up to the front of the place. When we steeped in, we were greeted by someone we assumed was the owner and sat ourselves down at a table near the stage. Our waitress was very attentive and showed up often to refresh my tea and the Misses' coke zero at a rate we never saw the half full glass at amy time during the meal. The menu is varied and spans Mexican to creole to American to basic steaks. I ordered the Buffalo Sauce chicken sammie on a sourdough bun with fries. The Missus had a tater with queso and a Coke Zero. As usual, the chicken sammie was messy as all get out and I almost thought about using a knife and fork to hack apart this tasty meal. It was savory, tender and spiced well enough to stand on its own without the bun and fixins. As for the meal, we had more than enough to sate our appetite. On another level, there is a comedy club on the second floor. Thursday is locals, Friday and Saturday have comics that run the circuit nationwide, so the laughs should be good. I will be back soon. I feel like this restaurant should get a clean slate reboot in the ratings. It was a fixture on Lake Conroe, located in a marina, right on the lake. They sold Gas for boats on the first floor, and the restaurant was on the second floor. That location mainly had a great view. They recently located to downtown Conroe in the struggling Theater District, near various other microbreweries and Restaurants, it's a whole different place. They are running a comedy club in the upstairs, A bar upstairs and a restaurant downstairs. The food's okay less Tex-Mex now, more high end. I gotta say it isnt cheap eats, a lot of 40 dollar entres now. The drinks were okay again, probably a tad overpriced. Service was okay. The beer came in koozies that still said Willis, Texas. The sign over the bar, still said dock sidebar. But that WAS its charm. I would come to this restaurant for a special event like the comedy club, But it would not be Top of my list for a Mexican restaurant (or whatever it is now) in Conroe. read more

Came here with my family before seeing a show at the Crighton theater. We parked in the back lot then took the stairs to the 2nd floor. There was an event going on. I asked a waiter where we could sit or if the restaurant was closed for the event. He said that there's no sitting unless we sit outside. We went outside (hot and humid) and then the owner (unbeknownst to us) came outside and asked how he could help us. We were googling other places in the area to eat. Harry himself walked us to the first floor restaurant which WAS open. He was very friendly and kind and took great care of us. Our waiter, Batman, was kind, attentive, and a good guy. We loved the shrimp ettoufee, seafood platter, and more. Felt like we were in NOLA. Towards the end of our dinner, there was a great pianist playing Jimmy Buffet songs. (Good) Second visit Onion rings batter soft and doughy. 1/2 order of chicken smaller in size and more expensive. (Poor) Third visit salad was large and good. Onion rings soft and doughy. 3 stars, why? I've been in Conroe for a few years and have always wanted to try Guadalaharry's. Today I had time to check it out and here's my review. Pros: View: The lake view this restaurant has is amazing!! Me and my wife enjoyed the boats/jet skis shredding the water as we ate our lunch. I was not expecting this type of view. Location: it's not too far off the beaten path from I-45 and it's conveniently located on 1097 to make it easy access to grab a bite and get out. Uniqueness: This is a second story restaurant. The first floor is occupied by a Shell gas station. You don't see that too often around this area. Also there is an elevator for handicap access on the first floor. Service: Everyone was extremely friendly and served with a smile. The service wasn't amazing by any means but the whole staff was constantly flowing around the restaurant so if you needed anything you could easily stop any waiter or waitress. Cons: Price: For me and my wife to eat lunch cost us 34.00 even (before tip). I was a little shell shocked considering the food was mediocre. Nothing about our dishes justified that price. Obviously I knew the price before purchasing our meals but after experiencing the meals, it just didn't fit the bill (in my opinion). Parking: Although there was plenty of parking when we came at lunch time, I could foresee parking being a big issue at peak hours in the evening. The parking lot was smaller than expected and it is shared by the Shell gas station. Quality: My wife enjoyed her plate (Chicken sandwich) and I thought it was great too. The only comment I had is the onion rings are anti-climatic. They were HUGE but the taste was just not there. I ordered the buffalo chicken tacos. The buffalo sauce tasted like a Kroger brand wing sauce and the chicken was not seasoned. It tasted like frozen chicken!!! The queso that comes with this dish was thick and had a "fresh out of a can" vibe. If I had to guess, tasted like a cheap version of Nico's cheese sauce from Sam's Club. If we ever came back, we would definitely the chicken sandwich again but try the fries instead of onion rings. Overall it was pretty average at best! It appears this place is big on the drinks and had two full bars (one inside and one dedicated for the patio guests). I'm not sure if we will ever be back but I do think it's worth trying out once. This is such a cool little spot near the lake. The restaurant is on top of a gas station, which gives it a great view from of the lake. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The food is solid. My recommendation is to sit at the bar and let them take care of you. Chips and salsa are great and def add chili con queso. Likely one of the best things on the menu during season is the crawfish. The best hamburger, onion rings and margarita I've had in years. Service was amazing and the owner (or manager) was working all over the restaurant at top speed making sure it was running like a Swiss watch. We almost missed a great evening! Luckily we had a friend who's band was playing, so we went anyway! We are super glad we did! The reviews were all over the board here, and it's known for being expensive. It is expensive for meals, and inexpensive for draft domestics. I can find a way to be happy! However, the plates were all very large, and easily justified the prices! Every single one of us had to take a doggie bag, and promise you... I can eat a LOT! We had the burger, because almost every review said it was outstanding! It was... and it was HUGE! A half-pound burger, cooked to order, tons of toppings, and they offer you an egg on top... can you beat that? NOPE! The wife had the extra crispy fries, and she's a fry snob, and was super happy. The man himself, Guadalaharry even helped wait on our table (and was constantly checking on every table in the restaurant). He recommended the nacho's and to add chili (nice upsell)! In downtown Conroe now , not on lake anymore. Food was not worth the price!! One burger had way too much bbq sauce on it. Over powered the whole burger. The other burger was the queso chili burger. I'm not really sure what flavor I was getting. It tasted like a mustardy flavor but didn't see it on there. So something had a twang flavor and it wasn't good. The menu said nothing about any condiments on it. And I even made sure to ask waitress because I don't like any of them and she said no. By the way she was super sweet and very attentive. We also had a drink each. Did not like the margarita, had an off taste. And the cosmo was not good at all. The cranberry that was in it tasted bad. Heard some good and some bad about Guadalaharry's and thought we would try it out for ourselves. First off, there is a great view of the lake that we had while we were dining. You can't be that right there. We ordered a couple of beers of a bit of a limited craft beer list and took a look at the menu. We had been craving burgers, so I went with the Harry's Burger and my wife chose the Cheeseburger. Both burgers were delicious with good quality meat and cooked medium/rare just the way we wanted. We both ordered onion rings which were hot, crisp and tasted really good. Over all, a good meal and a good experience. Our waiter was attentive and provided good service. We are looking forward to returning to Guadlaharry's again for another good meal and relaxing evening. read more

The venue is interesting and has a second floor view of the lake. The view and the friendly staff make it 4 stars. The food would have made it 3. Chicken fried steak was pretty good but not exceptional. It was hand breaded, so that's nice. The Harry burger was big and was a hand formed patty. However, $18 is a lot for a burger in Conroe. The fried pickles were pretty tasty. We came on Singo night, Thursdays. Bingo but they play music as a twist. It was fun for a Christmas party and we may come back to show others. However, with these prices and the quality it will be a destination restaurant rather than being regular. Edit: after spending more time, the place needs a good wipe down and dusting. Harry was incredibly kind and welcoming, and I truly appreciate his professionalism -- he was the only highlight of what was otherwise a disappointing experience at the new location. As my husband and I pulled up and walked toward the restaurant, the two girls at the front (a blonde and a dark-haired girl) were staring at him and whispering to each other. Once they saw me walking behind him, they looked at each other again and giggled like immature schoolgirls. It was obvious, uncomfortable, and downright rude. Their behavior gave us such a bad vibe that we didn't even go inside. We turned around and left. I've never been so put off before even stepping through the door. Came here today to have a nice lunch on the lake. Was worth the drive up from the woodlands. It's at a nice location with a view of the lake. Drinks were good and cheap, food was pretty decent and service was attentive. We ordered the frito pie and ceviche For appetizers which were both pretty good. We then split 2lbs of crawfish with corn and potatoes. The crawfish was decent. They didn't have a ton of flavor but most were good size and tasted great with the seasoning and butter. We order the lava cake for dessert which was probably our favorite. We'll definitely be back to this place next time we want to head up to lake Conroe. read more

I just had lunch at GuadalaHarry's and in my opinion I do not know what all the fuss is about. I ordered the Cheeseburger and it was PERFECT!!! Some people think I am nuts when I order a burger and ask that the cheese doesn't touch the bun, meaning sandwich it between the meat and veggies, when it's melted to the bun there is no taste. They automatically prepare them the correct way. It was properly cooked, fries were plenty and the staff top notch. I canNOT believe this. We've been reading the mixed reviews and joking about how Harry's charges almost $10 for chips & salsa but we never bothered to see for ourselves. So we learned something: don't judge a book by its prices, and write your own reviews. We had a thoroughly excellent lunch here yesterday - not one dish was less than great. We just kept smiling and eating and laughing about how we'd almost missed trying this place. True, it's stupidly expensive for a lakefront restaurant/bar. But since we were there to give it a test across several dishes, we started with the ceviche ($19.50) - excellent flavors throughout, super fresh and nicely marinated fish. Our only complaint was the very low shrimp count - 90% fish. Then Harry's Burger - $18.25 at dinner but $13-something at lunch. It was, in a word, outstanding. Half-pound burger cooked perfectly medium rare as requested, super fresh lettuce and tomatoes, great sauteed onions, cheese and a runny egg, just-made-today-fresh bun. This now has my vote as the #1 burger on the lake, just edging out Conroe Lakehouse's Hangover Burger ($16). You can't go wrong with either one. To top it off, the fries were cooked extra crispy just as ordered and were perfect. The mushroom & spinach quesadillas ($19.50) were also great - fresh, well balanced filling and a perfectly grilled tortilla. More than we could eat but they were great that night reheated. The gumbo is very good, but at $9.75 for a cup that's about half rice, it really oughta be. The roux is dark and complex, all the flavors well defined - it compares well to Pappadeaux's, and that's saying something. So we stand officially corrected. We judged a place based on some negative reviews and its prices, which just isn't fair. While this is indeed the most expensive restaurant anywhere near the lake, it might just be worth it. I know we'll be coming back, hoping it's just as good the next time. read more

Well the atmosphere is fun, but my husband ordered a plain cheeseburger and it came out with jalapeños and guacamole. I ordered fried jalapeños and I was brought fried pickles. My daughter ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and was brought a Buffalo chicken sandwich with chips.
