This place use to be a Bank and I remember the Giant safe / Door was still in it when they first moved into this location. I remember the old location it was small. I don't get here as often as I used to and much of that is because the food is not what it used to be. (Hence one less star.) Guadalupe's is decent food and our regular server there is still one of the best ever at what she does. I get the feeling, however, that the owner is resting on her laurels these days. A Mexican shrimp cocktail was served to my wife in a semi-frozen state. The last two times I've eaten there, I couldn't tell where the chili stopped and the tamales began (tamales were that mushy). And my entire plate has been no hotter than lukewarm on my recent visits. We've spent a lot of money at Guadalupe's through the years and had great experiences, but I'm afraid those days are coming to an end. If not for the outstanding service of one staff member, I could only award Guadalupe's 2 stars -- one for the house salsa and the other for always having paper towels in the restroom. And that's not reason enough to spend my money here any more. read more

Food is good, queso is interesting as it seems like something that you would get at a movie theatre. Lots of flavor but the consistency is interesting. We went for a late lunch and there were three of us. We were seated immediately and only the second table in the entire restaurant. The other table cleared before we were taken care of but that was fine, the conversation was great. Chips were almost never empty but the interesting thing is that they have a 3 beer per person limit. If they were serving craft beer with 9.2ABV or higher I would get that but for a Miller Light??? Anyway, we were there almost 2 hours, maxed out the beer count and left. Service was mediocre and had to get the waiters attention several times. read more

All the food was absolutely terrible. it tastes like it came from a can. It was all very artificially orange. When we told the cashier about our experience, she made it seem like it was our fault it was bad saying, "well everyone else likes it." She was very rude. read more

Stopped here Wednesday on our way to Hot Springs and again today on our way back. Had the nachos and the chili relleno. Both were very tasty! Great food and great service. You could miss this place if you weren't looking for it. I suggest you look, because it really is worth finding. read more

Daytripped down to check out the main street antique district and got hungry. Even though we were eating late (2pm) the waitress treated us great. Interior was clean with cold AC and the texmex was better than it had a right to be in this small town. Lunch specials run until 4pm; I think they were $5 each. I had a cheese enchilada and the wife had some kind of cheese taco. Only the rice was meh; the rest was satisfying. I'd absolutely go back. read more

I have dreams about Guadalupe's. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I'd give it 10 stars if I could! My husband grew up in Gladewater, so he had Guadalupe's at least once a week his entire life. I, however, was deprived of knowing this glorious place until I met him! We live in Dallas now, so we miss it dearly. We make trips to East Texas just to gorge on this tex mex (don't tell our parents!) :) But you just CANNOT find this kind of tex mex in the DFW. (If someone wants to challenge that, please tell me where to go! We are desperate for a place like this in Dallas!) If you haven't had their new stacked cheese enchiladas with fried eggs on top, get you some of that!! read more

The people were nice, but the food was not great. How is it that a Mexican restaurant doesn't know what Migas are??? Or doesn't serve simple breakfast tacos? Corn tortillas should not be heated in a pan of grease or oil... unless you want hard tacos. I grew up on TexMex food... and this is not it. Sorry... but I will not eat here again. I dont know why this place has such loyal followers. Decided to skip Tele's and come here. Not good. Place is dirty, we changed tables cause one we were put at was not cleaned. food costs less then Tele's but is not good. Rice was clumpy and hard, cheese enchiladas were greasy, cold in center. Classic Tex-Mex. Period. We have lived less than 15 miles from this place and passed it by hundreds of times. Kicking ourselves now. Lunch specials every day for $5.75 (or $6.25 after 4). We tried cheese enchiladas with queso and with chili - YUM. Beef taco meat, beans, rice, hot sauce....all good. No complaints. We will be back soon! read more

We love this place! The staff is super friendly and helpful. The salsa is delicious! The prices can't be beat. The sour cream chicken enchiladas were superb and the fajitas had a rich, smoked flavor. We live about an hour away, but will definitely make the drive to eat here again! read more

It's not a good sign when the chips brought at the beginning are stale. They were replaced, but the replacements, while hot, were not crisp. There were 8 in our group and the orders were brought put in a timely manner. Hubby and I shared a mixed fajita dinner. Beef and chicken were well seasoned, but beef was tough. Rice and beans were rice and beans, nothing special. Prices were reasonable, and wait staff efficient, but we all agreed that the good is nothing to write home about. read more

One of the keys to a good restaurant is consistancy. You can tell by the reviews this one does not have it. My wife and I eat here seldom, hoping we just got a bad night and trying to give them a chance, but the last two times the food was just not good. My wife always eats cheese enchaladas at every restaurant and she said these were terrible and could not hardly eat them. I had beef fajitas that were fair, but not worth the price. Absolutely terrible! Food tasted awful. The queso does not even compare to Velveeta and Rotel; there was no flavor! Even my 10 year old who hates vegetables said "maybe they should add some tomatoes or peppers." Restaurant is VERY dirty too. It took 35 minutes to be waited on with only four other tables. From where I was seated, I could see every plate come out of the microwave. The table behind us sent a plate back three times because they were served the wrong meal. My wife and daughter also received the wrong orders but just settled. This was the blandest food I have ever eaten and it was all drowning in oil. read more

I have been here twice now. Great chips and salsa. Good service. Ordered the cheese enchiladas with chili and eggs on top once, and a burrito dinner the second time. Both were excellent, although i'm partial to the enchiladas. Gladewater is full of Mexican restaurants, but i'm confident that this one is the best. read more

Never disappointed. We have been coming here off and on for twenty some-odd years. The food is always fresh. The chips and salsa (the salsa has a kick) are the best hands down of any establishment in the area. This restaurant's ambiance starts at the city limits. New to East Texas, I was searching for good Mexican food with that authentic taste and long time reputation. Guadalupe's was on my list to try when a visit to a business in Tyler,TX got me an endorsement from a 60 year resident of the area vouching for their quality.
