We went out on a 6-person charter for 3/4 day. The Captain (Jon) and Deck Hand (Hale? I think) were GREAT! Very friendly, engaging and helpful. I felt that they tried to feel out our personalities and catered conversation to that. Most of us on the boat had a pretty good understanding of fishing but they were always there to help if something came up. We purchased this trip for my dad for Christmas last year and wanted a smaller boat so it wasn't just a day of crossing lines and he had a great time so in the end, that's all that really matters. We caught a bunch of Rockfish and that's the only reason I would give them the -.25 stars. They are easy to catch and we were looking for something that had more "reward" but we were extremely happy with what we caught (about 30 Rockfish, and one 18 pound Yellowfin Tuna. We just realized that we need to take a full day trip next time so we can catch more tuna! I called Captain Chris a few times before the trip and he was always helpful with my questions and returned calls quickly. Yeah, a little bit pricier than some other charters but SO worth it to avoid a boat with 40 people. Spend the extra money and allow yourself an experience to fish with some good people... and your family. ;)

We booked expecting a fun, hands-on day of fishing. Instead, we spent the majority of the trip trolling lures while the boat went in circles. We weren't given the opportunity to bait our own hooks or cast, and when I asked the captain, Joe, if we could try another location or change up the approach, my request was dismissed. I completely understand that fishing is fishing and catching something is never guaranteed. **Not catching fish isn't the reason for this review.** The issue was the overall experience, lack of engagement, and how our concerns were handled. To make matters worse, when Joe introduced himself at the beginning of the trip, he made a point of telling us that he works for gratuity and wanted to make sure we tipped him. We have absolutely no problem tipping and regularly tip generously for great service, but bringing it up that way before the trip even started felt inappropriate--especially given the experience that followed. The one person who deserves recognition is **Jimmy, the deckhand.** He was fantastic, attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service throughout the trip. Afterward, instead of immediately posting a negative review, I contacted the owner, Chris, privately and explained our experience. It took approximately **48 hours to receive a response**, and when he finally responded, I felt our concerns were completely dismissed. His response essentially came across as: we're not fishermen, we don't understand what we're talking about, and he and his captain are professionals who know what they're doing. That's what ultimately pushed me to write this review. I wasn't asking to be told how fishing works. I was a customer explaining why a nearly $3,000 experience with his company was disappointing. A simple acknowledgment or some understanding would have gone a long way. Instead, we walked away disappointed with both the charter **and** the way the owner handled our concerns afterward. Unfortunately, for nearly $3,000, **the only thing we caught was a sunburn.** Jimmy gets 5 stars from us. The overall experience and customer service afterward do not.

Everyone returned with more than enough Tuna to feed a group party with plenty of leftovers. We brought home over 400 pounds of Tuna! Kevin made our experience very enjoyable and stress free. After the overnight ride to our location, we were up at first light with lines in the water. Our first fish-on was about 30 minutes after we started. We had no idea what was in store for us that day but were very excited of the whole experience. We found three large groups of tuna that had all of us very tired by the end of our trip. The crew was very attentive at keeping us fed and happy. This is a must if you are looking to do a guys weekend.

I went on the Pinnacle website, then had to call Duane to reserve. Called in August to reserve for yesterday, October 8th. Full-day offshore. Their 33'Everglades boat was booked, so we went on one of their Parkers. The price on the website for full-day offshore on the 28' Parker is listed as $3,300.00. Duane confirmed that they would be providing all the gear and that we did not have to bring any gear. Two days before the trip I got an email from Duane telling me that we provide our own California licenses as well as our own food and beverages. Seems like for $3,300.00 they could pop for the food and beverages, but whatever. My friend and I were the only passengers. Both of us are experienced saltwater fisherman, not pros, but decent fishermen with decades of experience. Many multi-day long-range trips, etc. The boat driver had some minor battery issues, so we got a little bit of a late start, but no problem. As we headed out, I checked the bait tank. It was dry. We had no live bait aboard. We rolled on out to the area of the 499/Snail bank. The boat driver put up the balloon/kite rig with a flying fish. We came upon a couple of whales with fish boiling around them. Not sure if they were bluefin or yellowfin, but seemed to be good-sized. The boils were in casting range, but we had no bait, and there were no rods set up to throw jigs. The balloon/kite rig did not get hit, so after the fish went down we started roaming the area. My buddy and I asked the boat driver to set up trolling rigs, but he said that the water was too cold for trolling. That was the story of the day. We would find boils, the balloon/kite rig would not get hit. The fish would move on. We would resume the search. Time ran out on us without ever getting bit. That's life, even the best skippers can get shut out from time to time. But we will never know whether we would have got hit on live bait, or a jig, or on the troll because our boat driver never gave it a chance. Here comes the worst part: We get back to the docks. We are supposed to pay by cash or Venmo. My buddy pays his half ($1650) in cash to the boat driver, and includes a nice tip. I contact Duane and get the Venmo information and pay my half ($1650). All's good, right? Not so fast. I get a text from Duane saying that we owe another $900.00(!?) Duane had decided on his own, without any communication at all, that the trip was not a $3,300 'full-day offshore' trip, but instead was a $4,200 'trophy bluefin' trip. Please.
