Wasn't too bad of a drive from Pinnacles National Park, we stopped in on a Monday so we weren't worried about needing a reservation. The Pinot flight comes with a Chardonnay to start followed by four Pinot Noirs. We were also able to dry their dessert wine, the viognier doux. Definitely order their charcuterie board! For only $20 it's a huge plate with lots of variety of goodies to munch on during your tasting. The staff were lovely and I enjoyed all the info they told us about Calera.

I will say, I am usually a sweet wine person and we were told there were no sweet wines at this facility. Nonetheless, we did a wine flight just to try! The wines were very smooth, none were really my taste though. Again, preferring sweet wine this was a bit to adjust to. However, my family who got red wines and actually like red wines loved it! The star of the show for me was actually a peach cider they have! I usually don't like ciders either, but this one was so delicious and refreshing! I wish I had just got a couple of those. Overall, service and everything was great! The man was very knowledgeable and friendly. Noe was an exciting part of the experience. And the cider was so amazing! It was colorful, the live music was great, and we sat right by the vines while I had some wine, the kids played bocce ball and corn hole and drank sparkling apple juice, and we enjoyed the food we packed in (they had pizza available on site, but we had our hearts set on on garlic fries). They had a good amount of seating in each area, and had a lot of shade outside, which is absolutely necessary in Gilroy. The patio and grass area was very pretty, filled with lots of plants and even a sculpture. The property is also next to a plant nursery, so that added to the beauty even beyond their property line. We were helped by Melissa, and she was great! They had two tasting flights of 4 wines to choose from on our visit, one of which included a white and reds, while the other was all reds. They did also have some extra bottles open, so they were able to make an all white wine flight for one in our party. The pours were a good size, enough to really get a feel for the wine and share a taste with others. Two of us ended up taking home the same bottle of pinot noir.

I started my membership back, thought we'd utilize the wine tasting. First time back in over 6 months they did not bring us a menu, did not tell us what we were tasting and that was not a good feeling. On out third pour same day- fist day back we were accused of trying to get an extra pour Aaron asked what pour we were on, we didn't have a response because we didn't have the menu, we were accused of getting any extra pour? Not our responsibility to keep track, and if you did an extra pour what is the big deal? The comment made us feel uncomfortable, we stayed and purchased a bottle from their reserved red wine. This Saturday we went with another couple and my granddaughter. All was fine untill our third pour, we paid extra for the reserved tasting and it was a splash not a tasting pour. We discussed if we should say anything at all, and we decided to ask for a decent pour. My husband went in , talked to Aaron, he declined and dismissed us. Aaron said we had a decent pour, even though he was not around to see what was poured?? Typically a winery allows more than the 4 or 5 tasting, how else will you know if you like it enough to purchase a bottle. If a winery treats members that way it's time to end membership, and we did. Staff is like family at S V, we got the cold shoulder once my husband spoke with Aaron. We paid for our tasting, tipped our server. We will not revisit this establishment again. It was a nice place till it wasn't We have too many wineries nearby to allow staff to make you feel a certain way.

If that doesn't float your boat, there's also a spot to play bean bag toss as well. You'll need to ask the staff for all the playing equipment though. But don't worry there isn't any additional charge. :) I definitely recommend this winery if you happen to be close-by. Or if you just want a change of scenery. They have a couple different areas to sit and a dedicated tasting bar. The property was absolutely beautiful, surrounded by vineyards and with a small pond. I wished we had explored more, because you can roam around a good portion of it. You can bring your own food, which we did, but they also sell snacks. And they even sell beer for the non-wine drinkers. The tasting menu had 4 wines, though there were plenty of extra open bottles, so we were able to try a few more.
