One of my favorite wine bars, Offhand focuses on natural wines and accompanying snacks in a former coffee shop. The space is bright and airy befitting a coffee shop, a bit unusual for a wine bar, but they've made it work for them. They offer a few selections of sparkling, white, "on the skins," rosé and red wines. They have a few aperitifs, and cocktails made with aperitifs, as well as sake and beer. The choices are fairly focused, it's not overwhelming at all, plus they're happy to walk you through them. For food they have about a half dozen conservas (tinned seafood). The mussels, mackerel and sardines are excellent. They also have meat and cheese boards, olives, almonds and a few desserts. They'll often feature food vendors -- I've had some very good seafood, pizzas, Thai food and more from their vendors. They've recently started serving sandwiches during the day. I had The Sonny, made with porchetta, soppressata, farmhouse cheddar, grand cru gruyère, heirloom tomato, arugula, chutney, nut-free red pesto, oil & vinegar on schiacciata, and it was delicious! At nights on weekends they often bring in a DJ. With the lights dimmed the place feels like a chill lounge. Customer service is great! Definitely give this place a try. read more

Love this space out in Santa Monica area. The owners Khalil and Teron are very kind, personable and welcoming at their establishment. I've been twice and enjoyed the people and the vibe. First visit, on a Sunday, they only serve beverages and they have a local food business use their space to introduce their cuisine to guests. They have a Caribbean vendor, Little Los angeles, serving great dishes. I visited again on Juneteenth and it was packed due to the event happening locally by the Santa Monica Pier. I hosted an event with some colleagues and we enjoyed their Orange Pinot Gris and the chilled red. Both crowd favorites! We also indulged in the grilled cheese and a salmon dip that left guests wanting more. read more

Such a nice small little wine bar in Santa Monica. It's such a convenient location for me and I never struggle to find street parking. I love going here during the happy hour (5-7 I believe) and trying their natural wines. I always try a chilled red or an orange wine. Workers here are super friendly and you can just order at the bar. Menu isn't super large and there are some bites you can order, but I'm just here for the natty wine. I drive all the way out from the IE to hit this locally owned and operated emporium of fly spirits as much as my patience levels for driving to LA allow. I stopped in here with two friends after a workout class (studio right next door) on a Tuesday night. The bar had a few other people inside, but there was plenty of available seating. The entire vibe of the bar was super relaxed and more of an elevated casual. There's also a cute little outdoor seating area off to the side of the bar as well. I got a cab (classic) and the burrata with fresh fruit. The burrata was so delicious and everything seemed really fresh! I split that plate and the cheese platter with my friends and it was enough for the three of us to munch on while chatting. Pro tip: my friend chatted with the bartender about wine and she got to try a different lighter wine (either a white or orange variation, I can't remember right now) that wasn't on the menu! The vibe is really enjoyable where it felt chill yet later at night, there was a someone spinning which changed the vibe and a bit loud if you are there for a chill evening. They have happy hour 5-7 with a handful of drinks and a grilled cheese option. Solid times for happy hour where other places end at 6 or even 5... For $10 you have the grilled cheese and you can add prosciutto for a bit more. Pretty decent sandwich and seemed very popular b/c the panini press was working on overtime. I really like this place. I have been three times. There's only one bartender there on Monday and I ordered my fish before anyone else ordered and sadly he forgot and then remembered and then forgot and then served everybody else grilled cheese several times before getting to my plate.... I literally got my fish 45 minutes after I had ordered it and after my drink was already completed. I will come again and hope for a better experience. read more

THIS is my new go-to wine bar in Santa Monica because it has everything I want in an evening spot and more. I was there for the wine, which is all hand-selected by the conscientious owner who knows every story behind every winery--I know because he told me each story with such detail and care that I wanted to try them all. I chose one from up north and it was so perfect--I had to get a second glass. The food is delectable and changes up depending on the visiting pop-up that night. I was there when the smash burgers were being served, and there are other yummy dishes served on different days. The vibe is chill and lively, with great music playing just loud enough to feel it, but not too loud to have a convo outside on the patio chairs. There's plenty to choose from at the front or the side of the restaurant, or you can sit inside on some tabletops or at the bar. This place was recommended by our friends who know the owner who apparently have a few other bar locations in DTLA. Super friendly and chill vibe. We came around 5pm so there is still daylight which makes the entire place open, airy and bright. Unlike traditional wine bars, this feels very modern. Our friends pretty much ordered the entire menu of Spanish tapas, including ham, bread spread, yellowtail and shrimp. Everything is super fresh and delicious, and you can tell they use top notch ingredients. In the end, we ordered a Basque cheesecake which is one of the softest and creamiest cheesecakes I have ever had! I ordered a glass of Rose and it is very tasty. I'm not a wine connoisseur but I can tell the quality of it stands out among other drinks I had in other places. read more

Stopped by here on a night that they were hosting a pop up (The Serrano Experience). No parking lot but street parking wasn't an issue for us. They have a cute little patio and a nice clean inside. Cute vibe. Staff was friendly, and the wine selection was decent. I would love to see a bit more of a varied section, but I enjoyed the glass of orange wine I had. So this is def a gem in Santa Monica. I found out about this place and I'm very pleased and happy I tried it... very new and different, which LA needed. The service is just amazing. They are easy going tell you about the wine and what would be the best palate for you. All the wines and flights were a good choice. Natural wines are good and I like that it's has uniqueness to it. The vibe is perfect and I went on a Friday night, which I heard Saturday's are even better. They have 90's music and other genres with DJ. Overall, I will be back and bring my friends. A few days ago in my Yelp review of Please Enjoy Coffee mentioned I couldn't figure out what the "+Offhand" on the sign meant. Looked online and discovered at night Please Enjoy Coffee morphs into the Offhand Wine Bar. Also discovered online the Happy Hour was from 5:00pm to 7:00pm so went there today at 5:00pm. When you look at the wine list you realize Offhand Wine Bar has a very unique and special selection of wines. Had a glass of Solminer Blaufrankisch since I had never tried Blaufrankisch before. The wine glasses at Offhand are very large. You don't realize how much wine is in the glass until you start drinking the wine. Offhand Wine Bar also sells bottle of wine for those who want to take some wine home with them. read more

The wines here are not good. I do appreciate them trying to serve boutique wines but we tried 5 different wines in their menu and honestly, terrible wines. A white Cabernet, terrible idea. Super tarty without the body. Berkeley Cabernet was very tannic without the supporting elements. Sangiovese was very light. You order inside and get your drink there and they bring the food out to you. The outdoor section is nice and has lots of different seating areas, if a little small. It wasn't super busy when we went though so no issue! They only have one food option for happy hour, the grilled cheese. Luckily though, the grilled cheese was super super good, genuinely one of the best I've had in a good while! I also got the orange wine on the happy hour menu, which was also super good. Finally checked out one of the newest wine bars in West LA - @offhandwinebar , which offers carefully curated wines and wine-based cocktails by @westsidewinos ! While I loved the quality of the wine flight I tried, I have to WINE about the concept. While most wine bars offer a quiet, relaxing ambiance, @offhandwinebar is advertised as a mellow party with a DJ, which is baffling for me considering the space constraints in the indoor and outdoor seating areas. I'm not sure if the crowd was just extra rowdy that evening, but it felt like a sports bar with the LA Rams game playing, people crowding around on the inside by the walls/bar, chatting loudly and waiting around for other customers to buy them drinks like they were at a club. We had to chase down servers constantly to get missing dishes and drinks from our order, wait ONE hour just to order food because they ran out of numbers and the chef was overwhelmed with orders, and find tables and seats for ourselves. The amount of people jammed in there was completely overwhelming for me and some of the other patrons (who were clearly uncomfortable and left as quickly as possible), and my partner and I had to literally yell to even hear each other from 6 inches away. It definitely was not a pleasant experience (especially when someone rudely cut me in the bar line that I waited ten minutes in), and I felt really bad for the understaffed servers and employees running around trying their best to fulfill orders. I hope they do a bit of crowd control (because it really is a fire, safety and accessibility hazard with people overcrowding the walkways without spots to sit in) and consider starting a waitlist to better accommodate and provide a better experience for their customers. read more
