Receipt showing "itemized" store purchases? I paid by card as the convenience store's customer.
    S G.

Star Liquor in Santa Monica (1929 Main St., Santa Monica, CA 90405, 3103990149) properly applied a 10.25% sales tax to my purchase of a bottle of Aquafina water ($1.99), a bottle of Gatorade ($2.25), a roll of Bounty paper towels ($3.49), and two lollypops ($0.25 x 2). The store clerk printed the thermal-paper receipt for that transaction but kept it. I asked him for the receipt, and he printed another as I watched. I looked at it, and it was a nonitemized card receipt for $9.14, showing a mystery "Admin Fee" of $0.35 added. I asked for an itemized receipt listing the things I had purchased from the store, and he printed out a third receipt. This reflected a different amount paid ($8.79 rather than $9.14), had a different time displayed suggesting a separate transaction, was missing $0.20 in CRV for the two plastic bottles, incorrectly said I had paid in cash, didn't have the proper products purchased listed but rather stated everything as either a "TAX T1" or "NOTAX," and had printed toward the bottom "PIN BYPASSED." The two receipts for the same transaction didn't match. I had paid money using my bank card. How many times did I pay, when would the transaction(s) appear on my bank statement, was my bank card still safe to use (I hadn't typed in my pin code, but my eye had been tagged with a possible optical network), and was there some other transaction with which my payment would be associated? The latter, I hadn't and wouldn't agree to that. Was this money laundering, petty theft, and racketeering suggestive? Shannon at the Santa Monica Police Department's nonemergency dispatch didn't think so. Shannon explained her job was only to have police respond if there had been a crime, and then only if the crime required an arrest. The possibility of an illegal game supported by a cryptocurrency cache fed by retail receipts hadn't occurred to her. The possibility of money laundering using an overlay on legal store transactions didn't occur to her. The possibility that the receipts themselves were a form of printed money in violation of 18 USC 336, hadn't occurred to her. Good luck, Shannon.

Most liquor stores are significantly more expensive than big box retailers, like if you go to a grocery store or Bevmo.

The place was jammed packed and the tournament has been a real shot in the arm for the area bars and restaurants. I sat at the bar and ordered the Manhattan Clam Chowder along with a pasta dish with chicken which as fine, but I have had better. The vibe was great because of the soccer and this was the most crowded I have ever seen this place since opening about 5 years ago. Rumors say the place is for sale, and one of the problems is that they constantly are changing the menu. The prices are a little steep, but that is the case everywhere as food prices have exploded and I have noticed couples sharing an entree versus ordering separately. The service is fine but the restaurant by now should have an established and reliable menu. I'll be back and this place caters to an under 30 crowd. RECOMMEND.

This also wasn't the first time. On several recent visits, the same customer sits in the corner working on his laptop while allowing his large black-and-brown dog to wander throughout the restaurant instead of keeping it close by. It made both friends and myself uncomfortable enough that we chose to leave each time. As someone who was attacked by a dog as a child, this is especially difficult for me. I actually have a dog of my own, so this isn't about disliking dogs. I completely understand that this is a very dog-friendly neighborhood, and I have no issue with dogs when they're leashed, supervised, and under their owner's control. I hope the restaurant returns to enforcing those expectations so everyone--including guests who may have fears, allergies, or simply prefer not to have dogs roaming around--can enjoy the space again. I've always liked this place and would love to feel comfortable coming back.

May 9, 2026 | Saturday | After dining nearby, friends, and I walked over to get dessert and drinks!…read moreWe decided on the bar titled Sirena, inside of The Georgian Hotel, before seeing a movie! Inside | Absolutely beautiful, quite elegant & full of personality! Chocolate Ganache | Cake | I knew that I wanted the chocolate cake the moment I saw it on the menu! It is easily one of the most delicious slices of chocolate cake I've ever had, no joke! The slice was huge, the frosting was thick with fudge, and it was just so chocolatey with every bite! The name of the cake is exactly what it's titled "The Best I've Ever Had!" I also noticed that the cake is in the category of Vegetarian! There was so much flavor! When offered the toppings, I decided on almost all of them, except for the caramel and whipped cream! Hahaha! Wine | As suggested by the Bartender Extraordinaire, my BordeauxWine paired well with the Chocolate Cake! Seating | Cozy & plush! We sat at a table inside, near the bar! Customer Service | Everyone we encountered was friendly with a smile! Also, helpful with the menu, including the drinks! The DJ was friendly as well, and we enjoyed the variety of music he played! Very chill! Overall | Yes, please! The chocolate cake is already calling my name once again! It truly was delicious and we all enjoyed our experience here! The Georgian Hotel is quite the beauty on Ocean! We will be back!!

**4/5 stars** Sirena…read moreat the Georgian Hotel is an absolute vibe, especially with those stunning ocean views--definitely one of the highlights of the experience. The food was solid across the board. I had a spectacular Caesar salad and a Smashburger that was very good--simple, well-executed, and satisfying. But the true star of the show was the **Shore Thing** cocktail. The rosemary-infused tequila with watermelon, mint, chipotle, and lime was perfectly balanced, refreshing, and memorable. I'd come back just for that drink alone. That said, while the atmosphere and views were top-tier, the service was noticeably slow, which held the experience back from being a full five stars. Overall, Sirena is a great spot for drinks, views, and a relaxed meal--just be prepared to take your time and enjoy the scenery while you wait.
