We were visiting family on the Connecticut shore and went to Guilford to try the Guilford Lobster Pound. Right on the water and you sit in benches under an awning. We ordered 4 hot buttered lobster rolls which came promptly from our friendly server. Delicious and filled with fresh lobster. One of the best I have ever had. Cash only. A great place to sit and take in a delicious meal. Only drawback is ports potties in parking lot because they are a tiny shack. I would come back here again next time I am around. Guilford Lobster Pound was among my top lobster roll priorities for this summer. I went with lofty expectations, and they were met, and then some. I had not realized that they operated as a full sit down outdoor restaurant (not counter service), so that was a very welcome surprise. Everyone was extremely warm and friendly. It was a very relaxed environment, and the dock setting was gorgeous. Although there are many picnic tables, it filled up extremely quickly. We weren't the first people seated and we got there right when they opened at noon. So be prepared for a crowd, but it will be clear as to why they're so popular! Let's finally talk food. I ordered the lobster roll, cole slaw, & their clam chowder. Their lobster rolls are 4 oz & only done warm with butter. The lobster could not have been cooked any better. It was as good technically as it gets. Extremely fresh tasting too. Very flavorful meat. I'm actually not a huge butter fan, so I appreciated that although there was plenty of butter, it also wasn't too much. Perfect balance. The bun was beautifully toasted and buttery itself. The Cole slaw was a bit thicker than I usually go for, but good and the flavor was great. The chowder was exceptional. I don't like creamy chowder, and it's also too heavy for me, so I was excited that they (only) make a clear broth based one. It was loaded with clams and red potatos, and the broth had deep seafood/clam flavor. Excellent chowder. Best that I've had in years. It was a fantastic experience overall at Guilford Lobster Pound. Guilford Lobster Pound served up a good quality , fresh lobster roll with a nicely toasted bun, but it didn't have that rich, buttery flavor I was hoping for. The quality was there, but the taste felt a bit flat. I wanted more depth, more butter, more something. It's fine if you like a lighter take, but for me it landed right in the middle--solid 3/5. My friend and I wanted lobster, and we saw they had great reviews, so this is where we popped into. Be prepared to pay cash only, they do have an ATM inside though. Took a nice ride down Rt 77 through Durham and into Guilford, enjoying the quaint scenery this time of year on Rt 77. Guilford Lobster Pound was voted the best lobster rolls in Connecticut for 2025! After reading this article, I just had to try it out and immediately! So let me tell you why I gave Guilford Lobster Pound five stars... The trip down was just beautiful, pulling into the restaurant showed easy parking, but I happen to notice portable toilets outside the restaurant. Then I realized this isn't a restaurant, this is more of an outdoor set up with seating under a tent. The view over the marina is beautiful and looking farther out, viewing Long Island Sound is simply stunning. The fresh lobster was 4 ounces of knuckle and claw meat place in between a New England hotdog roll with melted butter and warm. This was a really good lobster roll. Not the best in Connecticut but in the conversation; maybe a top five. The price was right at $26. Service was polite, and with a smile, and everybody associated with this lobster pound was very welcoming. Wait time for lunch was less than 10 minutes. The place was steady with all of the picnic tables taken, but the turnover was quick. I'm glad I got to try out Guilford Lobster Pound. This destination was on point, from the journey, to the restaurant, the amazing lobster roll, the view, service; and value. Oh heck, yes I'm coming back. I'm originally from CT and moved away years ago and every time I come to visit - I want a lobster roll. I've tried different places each visit and this is the first for me to come to. I loved the outside seating with a water view on a dock. The employees are super nice and friendly. Felt like you were over a friend's house for dinner! Had one bite of the roll which was delicious but I can't do gluten. Apparently if you don't want the bun they can give it to you in a bowl with just the lobster meat. A friend told me about it otherwise I would not have even known about it! They have a sign directing you when you drive up. Hi stopped here today for first time after a Guilford beach day. The lobster roll and lobster grilled cheese was AMAZING. The line was long but they moved it along well. We went on a warm day in mid May. We were hosting guests who recently moved from out of state to get a good lobster roll. We were pretty disappointed. There were small biting flies swarming the area, making it terribly uncomfortable. They were getting in our food and biting us all over, the food was good but it made it very hard to enjoy. Additionally, the waitress failed to bring out two of our meals, when we asked about it she brought out the ticket saying the meals weren't listed... but she said she recalled taking the order when we reminded her. So part of our party ate after everyone else while we all were getting bitten up. Hard to believe that this is my first time having New England lobster, but I couldn't have chosen a better place than Guilford Lobster Pound! The lobster was full of flavor, soaked in butter, tucked inside perfectly toasted bread. I even enjoyed the potato salad, as someone who has actively avoided potato salads my entire life lol. The only drawback for me, is the price. Knowing the history of lobster, it still boggles my mind that this one sandwich was $26 (they seem to raise their prices every year or so). Lol The location is kind of hard to find, and I ended up parking in a public lot about .5 miles away, walking down a street, then through the back of another business, to find this place tucked away right at the edge of a dock. If there was street signage, I surely missed it. But once you find it, you're pleasantly surprised. The seating is exclusively outdoor, and it's cash only. They provide an atm if you're short. The tables are all evenly spaced out and covered, either by an umbrella or the full size tent, and your order is taken pretty quickly. The food arrived hot, and very fast, and every single bite was heaven. I was also pleasantly surprised at the lack of birds. Where I parked, they were swarming. BRING CASH! They have an ATM, but it wasn't working. It's also a BYOB. They have a restaurant/bar next door they send people to if they need alcohol, but they are generally closed on holidays. We only came for lobster rolls, so I can't tell you about any other food items. We were very disappointed because they just were not buttery as far as we are concerned. The lobster meat was perfectly cooked and I got some gorgeous pieces. The roll itself did not taste good to me for some reason. The other reason I only give it a 4 is they need fans or something.
