First time ever there since I've been coming to Westbrook for years. Now that I moved here I wanted to try this place and was amazed. A cute place overlooking the river...Ate inside the gazebo and it was very nice. My chicken sandwich and fries were great and its BYOB. I'm surprised more people don't know about this place. My only complaint, which is small is that when you order the coleslaw its in a very small container. Maybe two bites..Wish there was more but overall nice experience. This is for the shack at Safe Harbor Pilots Point South. Very nice young person sold me a decent sausage egg and cheese biscuit for about $10. It was fast and easy and good quality so it checked every box. I would visit the restaurant based on this experience. Very nice. read more

I'm so happy the new owners have maintained the fabulousness that is Edd's Place. The fish is still fresh and delicious, the views are still peaceful, and the service is smooth! Things have changed, sure: playground is gone, fewer umbrellas, fewer plantings. But that's probably just the new owners' spin. I don't know if I'd take my out of town guests anymore as it doesn't feel quite as special as it used to, but for us it's still fine. The BYOB helps keep it affordable and given the water views and outside dining, that's pretty awesome. The fish tacos are some of the best I've had-they're simple and that's what makes them so good. Despite only one person being behind the counter and a large dinner rush, our food came out pretty quick. I was really surprised. read more

This was a sweet little spot right off the road on Rt 1 in CT. Had a nice enclosed area that we sat in as it was a little chilly the day we went. Looked like a great place to hang. Lots of outdoor seating right by a body of water. It's a 4-star for that. Food was a 3-I mean, it was fine but nothing that will blow your socks off. I should note that we were there for breakfast--had grits among other items and they were definitely meh. The service was lovely -- and bonus for us they sold baked goods which was a huge help as it was Easter Sunday and we were meant to bring a baked good to a dinner we're going to that evening. The pie----delicious!!! 4-stars there. This is definitely worth a stop if you are looking for a casual place with water views. I think it's BYOB. read more

Super cute place with outdoor seating on the water. I got lobster roll and fries and hubby got chicken sandwich and chili dog. Lobster roll had a nice buttered and toasted bun. Lobster was cooked perfectly and overflowed from bun. Good crispy fries. I wish they'd spring for Heinz ketchup but that's just a personal thing. Hubby said sandwich was delicious. He didn't care for the chili but the hot dog itself was delicious and again a buttery toasted roll which is essential. The coke slaw was a sneaky star! Crunchy and sliced thin and tossed w just enough dressing that you still got cabbage flavor. We got a cookie and stopped in on way out to grab it. Fingers crossed as new management and staff take over! Same great setting but the familiar faces are gone and fresh new ones are doing their best. They are actively trying to increase staff so they can reduce wait times. The menu is pretty simple initially. Found this place online for a stop for lunch. We'll, I should say: the hot lobster roll was the best, no doubt. Very warm, buttery and not too salty. BUT!!! Be aware of the size of the roll! It is a 4-inch roll. So you get it: you'll probably need to order two rolls... At least, we were surprised when we first saw the rolls we ordered... I was okay, but my husband can definitely take another one! The chowder was not that good: not very thick but very salty... wouldn't try that again... What a hidden gem! This is certainly a no-frills place, but we really enjoyed it. We went at sunset and enjoyed the beautiful view on the river. The food was all delicious and we found everyone there to be so personable. I liked how the shrimp and grits came out in a unique bowl and the cup of lobster bisque on a different place - it gave a nice homey vibe. Though it was counter service, they were kind enough to bring everything to our table on the patio. It's nice that they have a glass, heated indoor gazebo as well for chilly or rainy weather. "There is a place where I can go, When I feel low, when I feel blue" (Lennon & McCartney) We always try to kick off the warm weather season at some place with a celebratory lobster roll, and this year we did so at a new place.......namely Edd's Place! We found it on the busy Post Road, which is quite a contrast from the view behind it, where it's on the scenic banks of the Menunketesuk River as it makes its way into Long Island Sound. When you approach the place that is Edd's Place, you'll see a small building, a big gazebo, and a slew of picnic tables with bright red umbrellas right on the shore. If you are ordering or picking up a "to go" order, you go inside. If you're having your food there, just grab a seat, like we did in the gazabo. I started off with a terrific appetizer - a big portion of piping hot lobster bisque $6.95. Any hesitation I had about the price disappeared when I saw plenty of big chunks of lobster bobbing on the surface, and when I tasted my first silky spoonful of that delicious soup. It was stellar. Lobster rolls come in two sizes -something I really don't recall seeing anywhere else. We both went for the 4-ounce version ($17.50), and believe me - you get a big sandwich for that. The lobster rolls can be ordered CT Style (hot with butter) or MA style (cold with mayo) with a side of fries or slaw. The rolls are grilled and buttered, of course. The CT style lobster rolls were excellent, with plenty of sweet delicious lobster meat with neither a speck of shell nor a sliver of gristle in there ruining anything. The "small" version was plenty big, and with a side for $17.50 was a pretty good value. By the way, the fries were really, really good, as Yelper Jill E. noted. I concur. Our lunch for two, including one iced tea, ran $47.25 before tip. All in all, we found Edd's place to be an excellent place to have a very reasonably priced lobster roll and enjoy some very pretty scenery. read more

The shrimp tacos were very good and best on the shoreline. My son and husband both raved about their food! The gazebo was clean and they had wine glasses for our BYOB of wine! Glad to see they were open in the evening for the gorgeous sunset over the water view. The only suggestion is to spend a little time trimming grass and shrubs. Giving a little attention to cleaning/filling the condiment containers and brushing tree pollen off outside tables. Food is A+++ ! Prices are very reasonable. Better than the cash only guy next door. We don't need a live band and appreciate the cozy atmosphere. We will be back- as long as they are open in the evening!! read more

Edds Place is the definition of a hidden gem. The owner cooks up the freshest most amazing food at reasonable prices. The view of the water that runs behind the restaurant is a beautiful rarity , even along the CT shoreline. Pets are welcome on the patio (no inside seating available anyways ) and they even came out with a dog bowl of water and milkbone for my cavachon. This is one of those places that sits a little back off the road & you may not give it a thought if you drive by too quickly. My advice? Slow down, pull in & enjoy some really great food with a beautiful view! Husband had Benny & eggs & I had breakfast sandwich with home fries. Our dog was "treated" by them as well. I was sitting across the table from Dean, staring down at a grilled-cheese sandwich that charged an extra $10 to add lobstah meat. The lobster at Edd's is good and the skeleton staff were universally attentive and lovely ... but I have to say, I think I was looking at no more than $5 worth of lobstah (OK, I'll stop now with the fake Maine accent) in my grilled cheese. The fries were crinkly cut; usually a sign that several freezer trucks between CT and ID were involved ... still, they were crisp and tasty. The view over the salt marsh was worth a million, of course. Keep coming, everyone. They ARE trying hard under new and devoted management (the original Edd's had quite the following). Be kind, too: in September 2021, almost every restaurant I've visited struggles to find good (or even "any") workers. read more

Very welcoming environment. We had 3 kids and a dog with us which isn't easy at a restaurant and we were greeted so pleasantly right away. The kids could hula hoop and search for treasure while we waited for food. Our dog was brought a water dish and treat as well. The view of the water is very nice. Don't care where you're heading, turn around and grab a bite at Edd's. Definitely a dive but that also makes it a hidden gem. My husband and I got the crispy chicken sandwich which had spicy Mayo, pickles and lettuce on it. There aren't enough good adjectives to describe it. It was absolutely delicious- perfectly crispy, real chicken and the Mayo was flavorful spice not unbearable. We're thinking of stopping again tomorrow before we head home. read more

Stopped by for lunch while travelling through the area and was a much better option than the chain options. They have a small building I almost missed as driving by - had to turn around to go back. Stopped by on a recommendation for good lobster roll from a local they do both styles so all lobster roll aficionados will be satisfied! Plus they do give you fries with them and you can get a Mexican glass bottle coke, both big pluses to me. My wife and I ordered in the little shack, the friendly lady behind the counter handed us our soup and said we could have a seat and our rolls would be brought out. We started with a New England clam chowder since the day was starting to cool off and it warmed us right back up. Before I get to the food, I want to talk about the ownership. They were awesome. Very friendly and as we sat outside and could overhear the kitchen banter, you could tell that making a great dining experience was of the utmost importance. Now, to the food. I had a cold lobster roll and seafood bisque and it was fantastic. Lots of lobster on a perfectly toasted roll. The bisque was creamy and had nice chunks of seafood. I love this cute little BYOB setup by the river in Westbrook. Staff is super friendly. The food is quality, delicious, and they give you healthy portions along with reasonable pricing. Family friendly, but they close on the earlier side since a majority of the space is outdoor seating (though they do have a small enclosed space, more of an FYI) WARNING IF COMING BY BOAT: There is a dock BUT the dock is in HORRENDOUS condition and very unsafe. Wouldn't recommend pulling up here or even letting people off here as we saw one persons trip and fall and another piece of dock plank come up and almost knock a guy out, but instead he was able to avoid this and fell off into the water. Really surprised there were no signs up front as a lot of the planks were loose and this structure should be condemned or there should be signs near the dock and not up toward the restaurant. For this HUGE safety tiff i knock one star off. read more

So we found this place when we drove into town to stay at for the week. The location is great, right on the river with tables located outside . In the sunlight it was perfect with a little breeze and great scenery. Ordered the clam chowder, have to say it was completely unspiced, very low in clam, and the potatoes were way too large. After we sliced up for potatoes and turn them into bite-size pieces, added salt and pepper it was deemed acceptable. Not outstanding for sure. We ordered the El capezzone, Italian sandwich. It was smaller than expected, approximately 6" total with only one slice of each meat. But we do have to say that the spicing of the sandwich was perfection. It was just spicy enough to taste good but not too much to be overwhelming. You order your food inside and then they bring it to your table. The server that brought us our clam chowder, brought one bowl and only one spoon for the two of us. No napkins. When the sandwich was served it was served on one plate for the two of us. He brought one napkin and that was it. Over the course of the meal I had to walk back inside multiple times to get the rest of the serving utensils, napkins, salt and pepper and such. We have been going to Edd's for years now, whenever visiting this part of the CT shoreline. Before moving closer to the area, we would stay at Beechtree Cottages, and we sampled many of the eateries in the area. Edd's became our favorite, hands down, for old-fashioned home cooking in a casual place with a gorgeous view. Whether it was a late breakfast, lunch, or an early supper, we were never disappointed. And grabbing a picnic table, opening a bottle of wine (BYOB), and enjoying the sunset over supper is a perfect way to wind down a quintessential shoreline day. (Just be sure to get there early, because those prime seats tend to fill quickly.) read more
