a close up of a sushi roll
    Michael L.

Came for lunch. There's a harbourfront streetcar stop right at the door so it's quite accessible. Tried some different rolls. Starting at $13 per roll, the flavours are quite nice and the portions are pretty good. It's not filled with rice. In fact there isn't much rice at all. They start you off with a small bowl of soba while you wait which I thought was quite nice since usually it's just some miso soup. They offer Korean dishes on the menu as well so if you wanted those it's also available

Yum! Simple and delicious sushi right by the water. In a much quieter area of Queens Quay. Great to sit outside on their covered patio. Friendly staff and service.

We went for lunch and got the teriyaki salmon bento box, bulgogi bento box, and maki bento box! We enjoyed the meal and the waitress was really kind! Worth coming to try!

I had the avocado bibimbap and it was pretty good. We also tried the avo salmon rolls and they were really yummy. The avocado was fresh. Service was a little slow but that's probably because there was only one girl with three tables. Their menu has a lot, from sushi to donburi to katsu and other korean dishes. I'd come back to try something else!

Take out order - everything was fresh & delicious (Rainbow Roll, House Roll, Avocado and Yam Tempura Rolls)

Great food, friendly staff. I think their sushi and maki rolls are good, I love how little rice they add to their rolls, their fish has been always fresh (my husband orders sashimi and he usually had fresh fish) and I also like their Teriyaki vegetables and tofu. We haven't been here many times so I can't say I have tried many things but usually when we come in, the place is not busy at all. We always get a table right away and when we order take out it's ready in 10-15 minutes or so.

Great food!! I was pleasantly taken aback by how good the sushi's were. The fish balls are a must try!! Will definitely be going back!!

Came with my coworkers and found the service to be really good. The waiter was extremely quick and attentive and gave us some free stuff on the house which was really nice!! The food is 3.5 for me, I got a ramen and it was too salty. Still enjoyable though!

This is their Pork Bone Soup. This is suppose to be a soup dish with meat and potatoes. Where's the soup?

I ordered Pork Bone Soup, aka Gamja Tang. "Tang" in Korean means "soup", so where the heck is it?? Where is the soup that I ordered?? In addition, there's barely any meat on these bones. Worst dish from authentic Korean owners and chef.

Restaurants along the harbourfront are surprisingly limited for a tourist area. With options such as Shoeless Joes and Swiss Chalet I would say that Guirei is one of the better selections in the harbourfront neighbourhood. Guirei's appearance is like any average sushi restaurant I've been to in Toronto. Unexpectedly large on the inside, the restaurant is dimly lit with very simple décor, creating a casual dining atmosphere. The noise level of the restaurant is also quiet but that was probably due to the fact that there were only a few customers eating there. The food was OK. They had a vast amount of items on their menu offering a few "dishes" that veered from the typical sushi menu but mostly all were staples. Portion sizes of the food were decent and the overall taste was not mind blowing but not bad. To start, I was craving something deep fried. I decided to try their "Soft Shell Crab" and the "Agedashi Tofu". The Soft Shell Crab was exactly what I expected it to be - battered, deep fried and served with a dipping sauce. In terms of taste, there wasn't anything spectacular about it. The crab was subtle in texture and the meat was juicy...and tasted like crab (surprise!). The Agedashi Tofu consisted of fairly large tofu cubes, also deep fried, and topped with bonito flakes. On the first bite, the tofu is crispy but the middle is soft. The sauce it was served in wasn't too salty but was flavourful enough to complement the tofu. For the main, the "storm roll" caught my eye on the menu. It consisted of deep fried salmon with avocado, lettuce, and green onion all rolled into a very big fat sushi roll. It had a predominant salmon taste with a hint of spice. I didn't think the lettuce belonged in the roll as it didn't really add anything to it. It was an unnecessary, soggy ingredient that would not have been missed. Overall, the food and the service were very good. The waitress was friendly and we didn't wait very long for the food. The prices were pretty standard for sushi dining. It wasn't the best in Toronto but definitely worth a try if you are in the neighbourhood.

    Dinner #6. Sushi and Maki.

Ate here again last night and I just have to say I am so lucky to live a five minute walk from this hidden gem. I eat a lot of sushi, and this place is pure quality. Beautiful presentation, fresh fish, perfect portion sizes. Just such a cute little place too. Very unassuming staff who always thank you when you leave... Or at least they do to me... Maybe because I go so often. This is not a premium, high class restaurant people. But if you want amazing sushi, you will not be disappointed.

Unagi donburi came with a side salad and miso soup.

First time there last night. This is a Japanese owned restaurant so the place was very clean, service was gracious and polite and plating and presentation were well thought of. For a Friday night, the place was not packed. This is definitely a hidden gem. Got the unagi donburi, and the eel was soft and the sauce was just right. Also got a side of spicy scallop sushi... Omg. Definitely going back there again, the sushi quality and service is better than any of the king west joints.

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.
