I've been in twice in the last month hoping to buy an electric drum set. The first time none of the kits on the floor were playable. (No power supply, rack folded in an unusable manner, etc..) When I asked about it, the sales associate said "yeah we usually don't bother keeping the low-end kits set up." I was looking at either an Alesis Strata Prime or Roland TD516. Both are about $3500. He told me to come back another day and they should be working. I went back today (ready to buy) and the Alesis is still missing the power supply. The same sales rep said, "yeah they keep disappearing." No offer to look for one or any sort of real assistance. Overall pretty disappointing. read more

I went in today to purchase a new digital keyboard. I was helped by a gentleman named Jon St Pierre (I think that's how you spell his name). He was very kind and very helpful. The specific keyboard I wanted was not in stock, but he ordered it for me to be delivered to my house. It's been quite some time since I've made a purchase at guitar center and the last time I was there buying a midi controller the lady helping me seemed pretty unmotivated and didn't seem to know anything about what I was looking to purchase. I'm really glad to say Jon St Pierre was very knowledgeable, very fast to help us and provide us with good customer service, and he had a great attitude. I used to go to this store first if I needed parts, gear, or was doing research for a purchase. After poor experience over the past few years I tend to use this store as a last resort. Selection is good for the everyday stuff like strings, picks, and usually playing necessities, but everything else has gone downhill. The guitar parts rack is barren, the used guitar section is often better than the standard stock, but the letdown is the staff. They're all nice and try to be helpful, but they always seem short-staffed and wait times are an eternity. I tried to sell my guitar a few years ago, waited 90 minutes before someone could help me. I've waited patiently for an employee to be free enough to answer questions about some gear, only for them to never be seen again. The killer is the register, however: Today I waited 20 minutes before putting a pack of strings back and walking out, and that's unfortunately a common thing. read more

Typical guitar center selection, but the worst customer service ever. 1 Guy on the floor, when I finally got up to the register , the cashier was new, and had to have the purchase reviewed by another guy, to "make sure everything is right..." I had to threaten to walk out AFTER they ran my card, because the senior cashier couldn't be bothered. When he did come over to type in his code, he acted too cool for customer service, and made no eye contact etc. Fuck this place, and the business owner who leaves responses to bad reviews, saying they'll do better. And they refused to do it because my guitar was "cheap" and they said they won't do it and it's better off buying a new guitar. Mind you that my guitar works perfectly fine. Came here with my husband to look for a guitar he saw online. He called to make sure it was there and they told him they would put a ticket on it for the day for us. We got there in about 2 hours and was waiting to be helped. We went to the center of the cash register and was waiting in line. It was obvious the people before us were going to take a long time but we still waited. There was another register on the other side and a worker was there on his cell phone scrolling on fb and he was bent over the table just being casual. Really? Could he be anymore obvious? Finally, someone went up to us and asked what we needed and we told him about the guitar. He found the guy on the phone who we talked to and he told him which guitar it was. The guy walked us over to a guitar, but it wasn't the one we were looking for. We told him the one we wanted and by the time that happened we found it on our own. We also noticed there wasn't a ticket on there as stated. Whatever. We walked back over to check out. Another guy was there and he was cashing us out. He was nickel and diming us. Do you want this warranty? No thank you. He gave us a whole speech. Tried to convince us again. Do you want this special program thing? No thank you. Gave us another speech. Can we just check out already? We are ready to go. We were finally on our way. Overall, it was an ok experience. We are glad the guitar was still there but customer service could definitely improve and I'm not talking about the guy that was cashing us out and asking about the warranties and what not because I know that was his job. read more

I won't be back. I was in and out only after a staff member argued briefly with me. Not so much argued as told me, more or less, to shut up. I needed an adaptor for my mic, a Shure SM-58 (which I described to the sales clerk), and the guy said, "Here are your options. You can either get the cable with a built-in adaptor -- " "My mic's not wireless, I just need an adaptor to attach to the end." He snapped at me right then and there and said, "Would you just let me tell you your options?" This after I told him my mic wasn't wireless! I only have two options! I don't appreciate being snapped at by some bearded, know-it-all hipster when I came in knowing exactly what I needed, came with a piece of equipment I planned on using with my mic and described the type of mic I had. Give me a break dude, some of us are experienced musicians and don't need you to continue to mansplain something we already know, let alone snap at us when, much to your annoyance, all we want is for you to point us in the direction of the desired product. At any rate, I got the adaptor I needed and left, but I definitely won't be giving them my business again. read more

I was trying to purchase a speaker that was on sale. The sales associate asked me of I wanted a warrantee. I believe there were two options. I said no. Then a tall man who seemed to be a manager started to pressure me into purchasing a warrantee. He was rude and disrespectful. I finally gave up trying to purchase the speaker because it was such a stressful experience. I have purchased a lot of gear at Guitar Center going back 15 years. I like this place, it's near my house so super convenient. Everybody is really friendly and helpful. Except one thing. I came in yesterday in order to find some extra stuffs for my mic. This one guy, don't get me wrong he tried to sell " QUALITY " stuffs, I understand. He got to the point where he was too talkative and got in my way while I tried to focus on looking at stuffs. I lost my focus because he never shut his mouth as I told him I just need to focus to look at things here.Everything I touch he always have a comment about it. He asked me what mic I have, I told him Aston Spirit which I purchased from YOUR STORE for the price of $449. He said " IT'S CHEAP". I lost my interested in shopping there and couldn't even make a right payments and the cashier had to redo it 3 times, in the back of cashier where He was bitching about my Aston Spirit as it's UGLY AND CHEAP. As a customer servicer I'm highly offended, the way Mr. Know IT All yesterday made me feel like a fool even I spend money on stuffs I like. For spending ONLY $449 to buy a Mic from Guitar Center. This is a horrible experience for a customer. I wanted to return everything I bought from you because I find they're all UGLY AND CHEAP. I'm disappointed. Didn't want to write a review because I know it's a reputation's affection. But I can't shut my mouth up this time. I hope you guys respect the buyers and the budget people can afford. I just went to this location to drop off my guitar to get restrung and sat in the store with my girlfriend for 15 minutes standing by the repair desk and was not greeted or acknowledged. We then moved to the check out counter when two workers continuously helped as many people as they could while still ignoring us for another 10 minutes. Roughly 25 minutes without being spoken to just seems like it could have been handled differently. I saw them, so I assume they saw me...oh whale I guess I'll drive to another location inconveniently. read more

Last week I had a bad experience with this store, may be it's a communication problem but still I was upset ,I came back and next day I got a feed back email so I raised my concern thinking nobody would care about it. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, good selection of mid-end acoustic guitars, and good customer service at time of sale. Our son started playing guitar in the last year and it was time to get him his own so he could give the borrowed one back to his buddy. Jimmy gave us plenty of space and time in the guitar room, letting our son get experience with all the options. This was invaluable since our son isn't an experienced player. When he finally found the one that felt and sounded right, it was one that only the floor model was left, but Jimmy worked out a few things to make it the right deal. read more

Visited GC recently. I always work my way to the acoustic room where I find myself playing most of the better Instruments on the wall. I was very disappointed this time because I found the best guitars on the higher positions on the wall locked down so they were unavailable to be played. I looked for a sales guy in the acoustic area, but no one ever showed up. I was on my own so to speak. After considering the situation, I figured a sales associate would have to continually be available to unlock the guitars I wanted to play. "Not Good." I will swing be again to see if the guitars are still locked and if they are, please find me a Sam Ash or Woody's. *My suggestion is either unlock the guitars as they have been since the store was opened, take them away or have an associate stay in the acoustic area for help. read more

Ive never personally bought anything at this location, but my son takes guitar lessons with Austin. So far so good! All teaching staff seem great with kids, knowledgeable, and don't try pushing GC products on them or parents. My kid comes home with new sheet music and skills after each visit. They are flexible with scheduling lessons and rescheduling in advance is simple. My son's no prodigy by any means, but it's definitely cool and worth the money to hear him plucking away at something I can name. I absolutely recommend. read more
