I wanted to buy a drum set listed exactly PEARL RS52SSBXCC31 5PC ROADSHOW COMPLETE DRUM SET W/ HDWR & CYM JET BLK (See picture) Austin said, "Let me go check because I don't think it has all the pieces." He came back and said it didn't and that the cymbals were missing. I told him that this was false advertising and he said, "It's really not, I mean it's on Clearance." I told him if it doesn't have all the pieces the listing should mention that and I pointed out the cymbal reference (CYM)and that it mentions being a complete set. He responded, "It's Clearance so what do you want me to do, make one for you? I don't know what to tell you." Needless to say it was a very classy experience and I will likely not be buying from here. It's one thing to list a product improperly and not include a notice of missing parts. Went in looking for a strap for a new acoustic I got. Literally nobody asked if I needed help finding anything even though I clearly did. When I eventually found an overstuffed rack of straps they were not priced, some were most were not. I didn't know which one I needed and just picked one up. Talked to the only guy who was helping anyone. Overheard a conversation wish I hadn't between the young employees and their manager. A couple of employees were playing guitars and were apparently asked if they were on the clock. This store deserves the bad rep. read more

First of all, I want to say this guitar center is the best guitar center I've been to. Manager Tim Mott treats you like family. I brought in a guitar that was in terrible shape but Tim was so generous and went above and beyond to help me out. Tim cares deeply about his customers and I was extremely moved after leaving the store. The other staff members were all extremely helpful and very pleasant to talk to. I was able to get a non-playable guitar in great condition and I wouldn't have been able to do it without this specific guitar center location. It had been a couple of years since I had been in Guitar Center here in Gainesville, and frankly it hasn't changed much. Same selection of guitars and drums, very limited selection of keyboards, and no real selection of synthesizers. When I went in, I was able to walk around the entire store looking at things. I was never asked if I needed help on anything, so either I looked like I knew exactly what I was doing, or they just didn't care. I didn't find anything that I needed (the synth world is not an easy one to work in when it comes to brick and mortar stores) so it was kind of a bust in terms of shopping. read more

Worst guitar center I've ever seen. You know it's bad when a player plus strat is literally on the top rung on the wall and all of the mid range martins are locked. Guys hogging the amps playing literal nonsense on full blast with no intent on buying anything. Worst selection of instruments and gear I've ever seen. Not just the guitars but the keyboards, guitars, pedals, basses, drums were all entry level. Did find a used kemper lunchbox in the rare room for $500 more than reverb. Been here a few times, never once did anyone ask to help me . Looked at a couple of used guitar amps. They want a new price for their used stuff. If you go on the guitar center website and look up a certain used amp , Gainesville is the highest priced on all the stores, almost double on some of them . I'll never buy from them , I even closed my guitar center credit account, I never used it once because they didn't want to sell anything. This includes their other store musicians friend which guitar center owns .** UPDATE I got a form letter response from guitar center asking me to contact them ... should be the other way around. Flatly one of the most apathetic and disappointing buying experiences I have ever been a part of. First there was no one upfront to greet customers. I went through the whole store, nobody. Then I went back outside to look for my Uber ride that was arriving to pick me up. Then I see a guy walking up from the back and I open the door and stand in the doorway and say "Excuse Me, I have a curbside order that I need to pick up". He never looked up. So maybe he didn't hear my heavy former Marine vocals. I said it twice more. Nothing. I walk back outside. At this time, the Uber was arriving at the same time as another customer and his young daughter had parked and was walking into the store. I acknowledged my ride and walked in moments after the man and his daughter. The guy/clerk greeted them, answered their questions as I stood in line off to the side. The clerk then went over and selected a product off the shelf and told the customers all about, yet to even acknowledge me standing there. As they were wrapping up their visit, a second emerged and I told him that I was here for curbside delivery and that I had checked in 15 minutes ago, and that I had been texting with someone at the store who indicated that someone would be right with me. He checked my phone and order number, apologized and went to the back to look for for it. In the meantime, I questioned the first guy about hearing and acknowledging me earlier. He LIED and said he was waiting on someone that's why he didn't respond, insulting my intelligence. I will NEVER give this location, maybe Guitar Center as a company, my money again. If I hadn't been buying guitar as a Christmas present for my kid, I would've cancelled this order right then on the spot. This guy valued certain customers' business, but it was clear he DID NOT value MY business. And this ignoring bit isn't the first time. I came into the ghat store a few nights earlier to look around at some guitar brands and to view the selection. Same thing, no one ever acknowledged or came over to ask me if I needed help. Extremely disappointed with my experience here. I chose this store to buy my very first acoustic guitar. I had them order for me a specific acoustic guitar that I was interested in, which was nice of them but it is also company policy that they do so. However, I also found an acoustic guitar in stock that sounded amazing, even compared to others of the same model, so I paid to have them put it on layaway for me. When the requested guitar arrived, I went to test it and compare the two guitars. I will credit one or two employees who caringly helped me compare the guitars (since I am a beginner and was limited in my ability to do so). Altogether the process occupied hours of my time. I decided to go home and sleep on it. The next day I went back to buy the guitar that I had PAID to put on layaway. I purchased it, and after returning home I quickly realized that the guitar they had sold me was NOT the guitar I had PAID to put on layaway. The one i asked them to layaway had a distinct chip in the wood of the back of the neck that made the guitar clearly recognizable, and the one they sold me did not have that chip and was clearly not the same guitar. The sound and action immediately disappointed me when i sat down to play, and I then saw that the chip was not there and it was clear that they had simply handed me a random guitar of the same model from the back. This experience not only exemplified a complete lack of respect for a customer's wishes (since I had them layaway that particular guitar because it specifically sounded better than the rest in my budget range) but also a lack of respect for a customer's time. Why would i spend hours deciding on a particular guitar if I was ok with receiving a random one out the back? Altogether, this store managed to ruin my first guitar buying experience, and has lost my trust. Edit: Resolved the issue, no thanks to the store. Turns out the model of the guitar i had them layaway was different than the one they brought out when i wanted to compare, which was a different model than the one they sold me. What a nightmare. This store has Been wonderful to my family. Not only did I come from out of town to try this store out I was impressed with how great they were with my 8 year old son. My son has a new love for drums and in our town the music store did not care to bother answering our questions about drums and was so rude. Upon entering this store they greeted us and right away started to let him test out the different drum sets. They helped inspire him more here. He met the manager who was kind enough to give him a free mini lesson. We signed our son up for lessons with Josh who is wonderful and patient. I can not say enough about this store and the great service they have been giving my family for the past month. read more

After calling and specifically asking if they had a repair tech that could help reattach my acoustic guitar pick up I waited for 10 minutes for someone to help which was okay because I had called and made sure they could perform the service right? But no I was greeted by a rude young man that was trying to charge for a brand new install of this when no wiring was required. I told him I would remove the strings myself and replace them if they faceplate could be reattached. He rudely stated I was asking for a partial service and that they didn't have a service tech that could perform this and it would have to be sent. When I informed him I had already called and asked he said I would have to go elsewhere. I regret buying an additional guitar from them last week and will be returning It do to the rude nature of this last interaction. read more

Honestly if I was a decision maker for guitar center I would shut this place down. All the guitars were covered in dust and some were on the top hangers with broken strings so you know an employee put it up there. The only cables that were out for you to play through were crackling and broken. I'm spoiled, I guess, from having lived in an area before we moved to Gainesville six months ago, that had a very large Guitar Center. If you needed it, they had it. And a HUGE inventory of guitars both electric and acoustic. The Gainesville GC is a disappointment. A fairly small inventory of instruments and zero, count them, zero PRS guitars other than the entry level SE's. Not a single new S2 or any core instruments. N O N E! Their acoustic inventory is a little better with a descent number of Martin, Yamaha and Taylor instruments, but again they don't have the PRS Angelus acoustics. Lots of $100-300 guitars, but not a lot of GOOD midrange instruments. The same is true for the store in Ocala and it's even hard to find and difficult to get to even when you know where it is. Too bad. They need a local competitor. read more

Bought a guitar for a friend here. After half a year, the bridge seemed to be detaching from the body. Because I don't live in Gainesville, all of the responsibility was on my friend to try to have it repaired, under warranty. Let me tell you, he called wrote, wrote, called for a month and got such a run around. It became quite clear that the guitar center and the guitar company, that is owned by guitar center, have no communication between each other and NO interest in CUSTOMER SERVICE. It took more than 5 hours on the phone, 5 emails, and two visits in person to get a problem with a guitar resolved. So this update to the dead Victoria Golden Melody amp saga. Received it all the way across the country. It was dead on arrival. The Guitar Center over here sent it out to be fixed. It came back and I played it at Guitar Center for about one minute. The sales associate came over and started turning knobs and flipped the standby switch, and then....the light went out... it blew a fuse again. Gainesville knew I could get my money back, so offed the toasted boutique amp in their store with some deeper problems, a needless waste of my time. Even if I can't prove it, even if they won't admit it, GC Gainesville had to know about it. If you are the cook, then you know when the soup is cold. You know what I'm saying? Especially a boutique amp that stands out like a sore thumb in the store like that one does. read more

If you want a decent guitar or amplifier in Gainesville, this is the place to go. It is not as big as some Guitar Centers, like the one's in Jacksonville. But it has always had pretty much everything I need. I've bought more than one guitar and amp from Guitar Center, and I've always had good luck. Plus they are reasonable if you want to trade in a piece of equipment. And if they don't have it, they'll order it for you. read more

I have bought two good guitars from this store. One an in-store acoustic/electric and the other was an on-line solid-body electric. The acoustic was heavily discounted because of a cracked binding. It had broken electronics that I didn't discover until after leaving the store. The electric was gently used and shipped from out of state. It arrived with a missing case. On both occasions the manager, staff and a cloud contact couldn't have been more helpful. On the acoustic, the store's technician (Daniel?) professionally replaced the broken electronics with an upgrade that I provided. This replacement was made at no charge. The missing case finally arrived with a broken hinge and they offered to swap it out too. The vibe in this store reminds me sometimes of the old Lillian's. Impromptu concerts on drums, keyboards and guitars by customers will blow your mind and at other times just irritate you... just like the old Lillian's. Depending on the moon phase, you can be a fly on the wall and hear Gainesville's best and worst musicians or join in and add to the cacophony. Its a romper room for musicians. Watch out though, you just might pick up a guitar you can't live without... despite a cracked binding. read more
