I recently purchased two guitars from this store. The staff was very friendly and even helped me learn how to tune it with a tuner I purchased the same day. I went back today looking for a very affordable Capo and even though they did not have exactly what I was looking for in stock (I'm picky) they offered to order it. While I was browsing, a staff member (Garrett) came to me to show me another option and was very helpful as we struck up a conversation about guitars. He was very kind and I will definitely be back. I need to get some work done on my guitar, and looking around the area there are only a couple of places that will do this kind of work. I even looked at places out in Jacksonville, but that kind of distance for getting work done is a bit much. Hoggtowne Music is a locally owned and operated music store here in Gainesville where they not only provide repair services but also carry instruments, rent equipment, and have music lessons in multiple rooms in the building. While their selection of instruments is not huge like you can find in bigger stores, the staff are knowledgeable and they were able to perform the repairs on my guitar without any issues and at a reasonable cost. This is a fantastic family-run music store. Prices are very reasonable, but mostly I appreciate the amount of information and time the owner and employees will spend explaining your instrument and answering any questions you have. I tend to be an Amazon shopper but got so much more out of shopping here than I could have online. They are careful about public health during Covid, which I appreciate. All employees were wearing masks. They have music classes through Zoom, which is a great way to pass free time and learn a skill. Classes are reasonably priced, so even as a broke grad student I feel like I can take them without feeling too guilty. The store is a bit difficult to find in its new location, but if you call and tell them where you parked (the shopping center/village is a super weird shape) they'll tell you exactly how to access it. I'm actually looking forward to the next time I want to purchase something for one of my instruments so I can go back, learn some more, and support this great business. Check them out! read more

Be aware, their service contracts are deceptive! I inadvertently got sucked into a contract that had me paying big bucks for a trumpet that my son wanted to try. I admit, I didn't read the contact carefully, so be careful! They are not looking out for your interests. read more

I believe in supporting local businesses. Hoggetowne Music offers superior service, high quality, and the better value overall than the chain and "big box' stores. I've found that the prices are the same, sometimes less, than the mega stores. I'm including accessories like tuners, strings, pics in that statement. This was our third music store for the day. We live over an hour away. We had purchased a lyre off amazon and went in to see why it would not fit her "mellophone". Turns out she has a marching French horn. We got a lesson on the differences and he was able to supply the correct equipment. He was extremely helpful and friendly. This is her first year in marching band and although I am completely in love with amazon.......we will be driving to Gainesville to this store from now on. read more

Terrible customer service!!! The owner is apparently the only person that can make decisions, yet he is not present much of the time. I have stopped in several times and he has never been there. Twice I have been told by staff that the owner would be at the store at a specific date and time, but each time he was not present and I was told he was out for the day. The most recent time I called to confirm that the owner would be present before I made the 2 hour trip specifically to meet with him. Upon arrival I was told the owner would not be in for several hours. This is no way to run a business. Either be at the store or delegate authority to people who are actually there. I will not be back, and I will not be recommending this poorly run business to anyone. read more

I had a broken Ukulele after coming off a flight. I called to ask about turn around and they were so helpful over the phone. When I walked in the store all the staff was so welcoming and willing to answer any questions I had. I had to leave Florida before I could let the glue dry on my repair but they were kind enough to give me directions and let me pick up my instrument. I have been to this store many times. I even had a tour of their music lesson rooms. It's a beautiful place with a great selection of merchandise. The owners are awesome! They have been the reason I will continue to shop at Hoggtowne and nowhere else! The store is very organized and cheerful. This should be the only music store you will ever need. Great location too. The reverb on my amp was broken, so at first I took it to guitar center to get it fixed. They told me they didn't have an amp technician at their store (which is surprising and annoying). An employee told me Hoggetown Music had one though. I drove over there, and the nice gentleman behind the counter told me they had no amp technician. The only one in the area worked at Lipham's apparently. He plugged my amp in anyways and felt around the inside of it. He then turned on the reverb, and it worked perfectly; didn't charge me anything. I bought a pack of guitar picks to support the business. read more

My younger cousin is renting-to-own an alto saxophone from Hogtowne and we've been there closer to a dozen times since the start of the school year. Each and every time we have entered the store we have been treated as guests. Knowledgeable and quick to help, these are the only people I'd come to for any instrument-related problem. My keyboard stopped working so I took in my power adapter for my yamaha and I got great customer service, plus I was given a new adapter for free! Of course don't expect this to happen all the time, but the employees here make it personal. :) They were very nice to me and I did not want to leave. This store is great because if you need something that they don't have, they don't tell you that and send you on your way. No, they will do their best to find you what you need, make whatever calls they need to make, and make it personal with you. I have not once experienced great customer service such as this. Helpful and kind staff. I didn't feel pressured to buy, and they were more conversational, just telling me their honest opinions about the instruments. They really do have a great selection of ukuleles. It was ridiculous. I found one I loved, and they were all great prices... Comparable prices to guitar center but waaay better selection and quality.
