I loooooove my guitars and have a guitar guy I usually go to, but he's like an hour and a half away. With today's gas prices a simple set up isn't exactly worth the half tank of gas. I cannot recommend Guitar Tune Ups enough. I brought in my Martin D-X2E because I was fighting the factory action, which was making barre chords and intricate riffs (like John Frusciante and Hendrix style thumb-over chords) way harder than they needed to be. I asked for a full setup: carving and installing a custom bone saddle, and getting the action as low as physically possible for my light flatpicking style without introducing fret buzz. Jon nailed it. He even perfectly followed my specific requests regarding the care of my Richlite fretboard. He also sanded my guitar neck, filed the nut slots, polished my frets, installed my new strings, and adjusted my truss rod. The result is absolutely night and day. It feels like a completely different instrument. Barre chords are effortless now, my hand doesn't get exhausted, and the acoustic tone rings out beautifully with the new bone saddle. The money I spent here was by far the best investment I've ever made for my guitar playing. If you are in the Fountain Valley area and want your acoustic to play like an absolute dream, this is the only place you need to go. 5/5 stars. read more

Brought in a used Martin 000-16GT I picked up at Guitar Center since it had some buzzing on the strings. Daughter wanted to try taking up guitar, so I bought a used 3/4 scale acoustic off Marketplace. It was in good shape, but like a lot of used guitars, it needed some work. I took it to Jon and asked if he could help set it up so that it would be easier for her to play. He cleaned it up, put on lighter gauge strings, adjusted the neck relief, and sanded the saddle to lower the action. Now it looks and plays beautifully! I requested a consultation regarding an acoustic guitar I recently inherited. I wasn't sure if I should invest in the instrument or just restring and play it as it is. Jon agreed to take a look. Took it to a well known guitar shop in Laguna Beach. They did make it play and sound better but not what I had hoped for.
